While talking about optional rules, is anyone NOT interested in sanity rules? It comes up later on in the AP (adventure #4), but it can also be useful the first time the PCs see an undead rise from the grave.

I like it. I think it adds to verisimilitude to have a character's brain break when the impossible happens. Mind you impossible is a flexible concept in a fantasy RPG. A priest of Phrasma might be fine with seeing undead rise. Well not fine, but sane and very very angry.

Sanity rules sound like fun; IIRC the haunts in this game are pretty intense.

Certain situations would call for modified dice rolls/saves. The rules written in the AP aren't all that extensive, leaving a lot of it up to interpretation.

I wouldn't use it every time the party faces a ghoul, or zombie or whatever, but certain encounters will fit nicely with the rules.

All good. Just some idle musing on my part.

A priest of Pharasma who's been battling undead for most of his life, sure. An acolyte who's just graduated from seminary? Might be a bit traumatic the first time. It's a lot different than the books described!

I've never played Carrion Crown, so I have no idea what's coming up. All I know is that it's supposed to be one of the spookier AP's. And what's in the player's guide. Never played or gm'd any Society scenarios set in Ustalav, either, so this will be a completely new experience for me!

Just want to chime in and say I'm totally down with the sanity rules. Seems like a perfect twist to add to the flavor of a campaign that's all about how to cope in the face of pure terror.

Also, Ulam is totally updated to your stat requirements and ready for your judgement : )

Shush hails from Egorian. His actual name is Drais Rakerrusk. His slave name was Bit. He now claims a home outside of Almas in Andoran, preferring the quiet countryside to living in a city.

Shush was born to Halfling parents in Egorian, living on the streets until caught stealing at a young age. He was then sent into slavery, owned by a middle-rank autocrat and his wife. He served them until the age of 22, at which point he quickly tired of that life.

Always curious and never satisfied, he began to realize the benefits of living under the foot of a slavemaster did not outweigh freedom. He engineered his escape and his masters’ demise, fleeing Cheliax and ending up in Almas. He took with him only a few objects, a small pile of gold, and the clothes on his back. He currently works for an Andoran bureaucrat, having good working knowledge of government administration. On the side, he makes money gambling and doing odd jobs.

Shush is a utility rogue that will fight when he needs to and stab an enemy in the back when he wants to. He received word concerning the Professor's death and has traveled to Ravengro.

Thanks for the notes Tom. I'll change that label for the extracts right now.

I already wrote up a background for Echo, but when I wrote it I didn't include the Chance Savior trait in the backstory. I'll attach what I have in Echo's profile. Let me know if you want me to amend it to match the trait.

Interested, dotting. Thinking about a Mad Dog barbarian, or a heavens oracle.

Ooh, Carrion Crown! I just created this character for a different recruitment but she didn't get selected.

She is a half-elf inquisitor, and I believe she falls into all of your requirements. I will double check the point buy in the morning, but I believe she's fine. Backstory and crunch are included in her profile.

I think that her story outlines her future goals well enough, but I will probably start working on some more specific goals for her.

Thanks for your consideration! Let me know if you have any questions.

P.S.
I'm trying to get my table group to do a PbP, and they selected Carrion Crown. So I will potentially be running this same AP concurrent with your game. However, I fully expect it to lag behind this game as it will be starting later and have 6 players. Everything will still be new to me, and if there is any concern I am able to easily separate out-of-game knoeledge from in-game.

So, I see the Chance Savior trait, but then there's nothing in your background to explain it.

Yes, please.

Any stats or background on those?

I am going back and making some tweaks to this character. Her stats were previously done on a 25 point-buy. I had not selected spells and so forth. I will be taking a drawback, (paranoid) and gaining an extra trait.

I'm heading back to work today, but that shouldn't affect the game. I'll be able to monitor what people are posting, but won't make any posts until night (as I originally stated.)

Oops, I had it in my bio on my avatar, but forgot to add into post!

It's now here, with correct avatar as well:

Shush hails from Egorian. His actual name is Drais Rakerrusk. His slave name was Bit. He now claims a home outside of Almas in Andoran, preferring the quiet countryside to living in a city.

Shush was born to Halfling parents in Egorian, living on the streets until caught stealing at a young age. He was then sent into slavery, owned by a middle-rank autocrat and his wife. He served them until the age of 22, at which point he quickly tired of that life. His dreams grew after meeting a certain Professor from Ustalav.

Shush's encounter with Professor Lorimmor was brief but impactful on both. The Professor came to Egorian to give a talk at the University of Egorian. Shush's master went to see the talk, and dragged Shush along. Shush didn't know anything about the Professor, but was made to sit quietly while he spoke. Shush became enamored of him and his intelligence. His master arranged to meet him and since Shush was his servant, he got to "meet" him as well. The Professor, knowing full well the customs of Egorian, ignored Shush until his his master went away for a minute. The Professor shook Shush's hand and gave him some respect, along with a small book. The book ended up being a minor Pathfinder Society Chronicle. Shush quickly hid this before his master returned. As the Professor and his master walked to a local tavern, they were accosted by thugs. Outnumbered and outmatched, his master chose to flee rather than help the Professor. Shush did not follow his master away, and stayed, which he was later punished for. The thugs were motivated but not enough to put up a fight. Shush defended the Professor with tough talk; one thug decided talk was cheap, but Shush dispatched him and caused the others to find an easier target. The Professor didn't say much after that except a heartfelt thank you and an invitation to travel to the University of Lepidstadt for studies.

Shush is a utility rogue that will fight when he needs to and stab an enemy in the back when he wants to. He received word concerning the Professor's death and has traveled to Ravengro.

Everything should be up to speed, except the listed gold left. I will have a bit more to spend since we're doing max at 1st. I don't need much else though at this point.

After reading a little more thoroughly through the AP, I'm opening up Adventurer's Armory as an option for purchasing equipment.

Quick everyone, into your kilts!

Very interested, as the Carrion Crown PbP I had been playing in just shut down. (We didn't get very far.)

I submit Dr. Stefan von Herzog.

I may need to re-tool the character a bit. I think the last game was 15-point buy with average starting wealth.

I'm traveling internationally for the next few days, and probably won't be able to post again until Monday.

Instead of re-writing her previous backstory, I wrote a new episode in the pre-Harrowstone life of Echo. I'll post it up on her profile page as a spoiler underneath her previous episode. I hope you'll enjoy it.

This is Catherine Black.

I have an image in my mind of a Salem paladin similar to the Innistradt set by Magic. Unfortunately, this vision is making me something I don't like to do - i.e. take first level in a class I do not plan to pursue.

My paladin therefore has one level in Gunslinger, thus avoiding the abysmal Holy Gun and equally abysmal Buccaneer.

It would be nice to take Pistoleer for the added damage but hardly critical as I will only ever have Gunslinger 1. I know I could probably get more if I went further, but this is really about making a paladin with a gun, not a gunslinger.

So, please expect her to fulfill her lifelong desire to join the church next level. She is already sworn to Pharasma, so it will be a short step.

Catherine is a member of Les Bestes un Noir, a mercenary company who work with the Palatine Council's. I do not plan to leave that organization but do not think they will place many requirements on me. If we are allowed to choose Drawbacks, I would like to take the family drawback and would pick up Reactionary in return for +7 initiative.

Catherine's personality is that of someone who understands that you have to beat the chaff from the grain if you want bread and that the beating is rarely pleasant for either. She will never hurt the innocent, but if having to watch your mother burn as a witch is too upsetting, well, it builds character.

Please ask any questions you like. I'm sorry to apply on the last night but the artwork took a few days and I'm very busy here on my end.

Best wishes!

Hilde, your submission is fantastic! I haven't ever seen somebody put together a character board like that before. I really enjoy the artwork you chose.

(I was looking at some of the same Magic:the Gathering art for Viktoria, but would never be able to put something like that together. Innistrad artwork works so well for this AP.)

Wow Hilde,

Was that done through a software program?

I've been wanting to play a dragon disciple. Would you allow Aasimir as a race? And if so would angel blooded variant be allowed?

Thank you for the compliments. I use Adobe Illustrator for my character sheets. I was in advertising for twenty years before becoming a medical student and so work in Illustrator and Photoshop a lot. I'm always happy to share my template, but you kind of have to know Illustator/Pagemaker or something similar to use it.

I do a lot of work in photoshop with pictures because I like them to be just so. They usually work out well but I'm still not happy with Catherine's second page. I had to turn a rough and tumble male into a female and while the head was easy enough, the bust was a nightmare. Fortunately, coats were really big back then.

Here is another of my recent characters I've put together for a faerie tale game. Marianne Avignone.

I've been doing character sheets like these for about five years now and really enjoy doing them.

Man, my poor witch doesn't stand a chance! ;)

So many great submissions in this thread.

Envoy's Alliance

I said a similar thing with many games I happened to be picked in.

Some great submissions came through this week. Unfortunately, I couldn't take on everyone, as much as I would have loved to. After careful consideration, I also expanded the party number. Going to have to be careful that you guys don't just steamroll over the adventure.

I referenced the character names, instead of the player name.

The decision was based on how thematically the character tied into the setting, or overall coolness/fun/RPing opportunities. Here is the final list (+2 that I've already contacted.)

Echo
Ulam Bone-Cracker
Hilde Alfborne
Dawn Jalhyn
Vitaliy Vladovich

I'll get a discussion thread set up later today, where we'll get into the grit before starting on Monday.

-----

If time allows, I'll start up a second AP for those who didn't make it into this round.

Thank you for picking Catherine. I think we'll have a lot of fun and I look forward to getting started. 8)

I'd never heard of this set (not into Magic), but holy smokes, I'm loving this artwork. :)

Discussion thread is up.
