I have a copy of this character as both a rogue and cleric. He was originally a cleric, and I think I would prefer to play him as such, but if someone has something they really wanted to play, he barely changes as a rogue.

So, hi all! I'm assuming it's alright for me to check in. It's gonna be a bit before I have an appropriately-fleshed-out character, but I will soon enough.
I'm definitely not going to be able to do anything tomorrow, and probably not the next day, because I'll be moving, but if I have some extra thought space I'll devote it to character-building.
I do have a couple of questions. Am I allowed to make an evil character? I'm pretty attached to evil clerics and immoral arcane spellcasters, and I can usually keep them aligned with the party's goals as well. If not, that's fine.
What races and classes are allowed?
Traits?
I'll do my best to make something memorable :) I hope it's okay that I'm currently DMing one on the forums. I can separate my knowledge.

Carlito DM |

I am a little hesitant to allow evil characters, but I will allow it. Just make sure he has a reason to go against the House of Thrune. Lawful Evil clerics of Asmodeus for an example have been known to go against the House of Thrune because of the houses attitude toward the infernal. The House of Thrune do not view Hell as a greater power but more as a role model, obviously Lawful evil clerics of Asmodeus would not like this.
As for traits. Take a Campaign trait and another trait of your choice. Race wise I would prefer to stick to core races and Tiefling on a case by case basis.
Again this is my first attempt at DM. Any helpful advice or constructive criticism is welcome.

Okay, with that, I have an idea, coming here for approval.
NE blight druid of Urgathoa. He used to be NG, used to worship Erastil, used to be a rural farmer/village mystic. At some point, some horrible thing happened to him/his family, perpetrated by the House of Thrune. When that happened, his mindset changed and he decided to go to any necessary lengths to see the House of Thrune toppled.
This, in turn, turned him to the worship of Urgathoa.
All he wants is to see the Asmodeans rot, screaming in agony from diseases that he gave them.
Campaign Trait: Westcrown Firebrand.
He'll be human, with the "blight druid" archetype.
I might have him be middle aged.
So I'll do up the character as soon as I get approval, or I'll do something a little bit more conventional if you think that's too crazy.

Holbrecht Bastionne |

Hey, Lein, I have a question about the character. Is it safe to assume we won't be relying on him for healing? Not only a druid (having to prepare heals in the first place), but a blight druid, so mostly inflicts anyways. What kind of role would he be filling more of instead, buffs, melee, other?
I don't have any issues with it (I won't temper tantrum until you're not evil like someone else we've seen, who looks like they have quit the game anyways), I'm mostly just curious for what gaps we have filled and which we don't.

Marroar the Vengeant |

He may prepare the odd cure spell here and there, especially if someone asks him to. He's lived almost his entire life as that sort of man - his home village's mystic, healer, midwife, animal husband-er, etc. etc., and so that kind of role comes easily to him.
What I'm picturing for him in terms of combat role is pretty much solely a de-buffer prior to level 4, and then mixing in the odd melee rampage with wild shape after that.
Pretty much the iconic spell I want for him is going to be contagion, if we ever get there.
The reason I liked this idea is because Marroar isn't some scheming evil power - rather, he's just someone who wants to see the greatest pain imaginable visited on his enemies. He has no mercy and no room for their redemption. He was driven to Urgathoa by despair and desperation, because he feels that the Pallid Princess is the only entity out there that will give him the power to visit the kind of doom he wants on the diabolists.
That doesn't make him suddenly not a nurturing softie on the inside, especially if there are children or fathers/mothers. He would probably give his life to protect a parent and children from danger.
So, yes, most of his combat options are going to be visiting pain on diabolists/servants of the House of Thrune and just trying to kill/incapacitate everything else as quickly as possible, so he can get on to the former thing.
I've been thinking about Marroar a lot today, on my long, long, 9 hour drive, clearly.
And hey, I didn't even realize it was you, Aardvark! :D

Holbrecht Bastionne |

Yeah, you were my suggestion. Everyone else he invited is someone we know IRL (all three of them play in my Skull & Shackles game, the GM and the other two he invited).
So, as it stands Holbrecht will still be useful as the cleric build.

So dual purpose, just posting up to mark the thread. Also been trying to run through character ideas.
So I decided I'd probably try a class I haven't done in a long time. Seeing as I tend to despise the class so much, and because it seems to fit with the story I'm working on, I'm actually thinking of making a Monk..Aardvark, I know, don't have a heart attack..But it both fits my story, and fills my criteria of being a class I don't/haven't played much.
Thoughts as to how it will fit the party dynamic? Carlito, your thoughts? As this is your pilot DM run, how do you feel about it?

Holbrecht Bastionne |

I PM'd Frytz the link, and told him about the game and he said he's cool with it. I know they were talking about a wine fest this weekend, so he may be involved with that.

Marroar the Vengeant |

So, just making sure, no questions or concerns about Marroar?
I'd like a Good-aligned character or two to interact with, by the way :D I should think Marroar would be an interesting person in a group of actual heroes.

Aardvark Barbarian |

I figured out what I'm going to be doing, after we talked. I looked at the deities, and their domains, and possible combinations that could allow me to have a decent arcane aspect as well (we don't have one). I decided that I will play a Hedge Witch, with Healing Hex.
Full arcanist, with the ability to cure each person 1/day, and hedge witch allows me to convert prepared spells to cures like a cleric does.
Thinking of going with the Half-elf archetype, Bonded Witch, as well even though I love familiars. Tough call.

Marroar the Vengeant |

Hehe. Mine is done.
I actually really like witches. They're kind of really powerful and they have pretty awesome flavor :D
We need a beefcake and some more skills, I think.
By the way, if we need arcane more than divine (say, if Aardvark's concept works the very best with a cleric (and I like having a cleric around)) I'd be perfectly willing to port Marroar over to being a Pestilence sorcerer. It works just as well.

Carlito DM |

Adamant and Frytz how are you two progressing?
I also like witches though I am actually surprised you are looking at playing one Aardvark.
With Frytz being an Urban Ranger he does have some decent skill ability as well as getting some of the Rougue esque things. I.E. Disable device, Knowledge Local, and Trapfinding. And they get 6 ranks per level for skills.
I went and checked out both of those Witch archetypes. I like both of them. Both would be useful I think. Though I think Hedge Witch would be more helpful. You would still have the Arcane factors while being able to help the group when in need, really its just more versatile. Choose what you want to play most though.

Aardvark Barbarian |

Yeah, it seems I have a little extra time on my hands for some reason (despite driving to and from work twice on a day I'm not even allowed to work that is).
I'm still trying to work out how I want to build the character. I'm definitely going hedge witch with healing hex, it's just all the other stuff I need to put together in a way I'm happy with.
Anther PC Gen question:
Starting money (rolled, average per book, or max)?

Stanley Sydell |

Okay, this is Aardvark with my character.
Stanley is a follower of Pharasma, but he works much like a hospice nurse. He considers it his job to ease the pain and suffering of those that are bound for the Boneyard to meet Pharasma. All the same he does what he can to prevent it from happening by any means other than someone living their life to the fullest (dying of old age). As such he is prepared to fight sickness, disease, injury and the like. (hedge witch)
He was set along this path by an odd friend, his pet whippoorwill (using thrush stats as closest) Vesnik. The animal is recognized by the Pharasmin church as a guide leading the dead to the Boneyard. As he sits in service to those recently dead, Vesnik stays with him, ready to deliver them. Due to the religious significance, Vesnik seems to be much more advanced than other birds of his type. (beast-bonded, eye for talent human trait)
He is a native Chelaxian, and has found that sometimes his patients are more than unwilling to discuss the nature or cause of their injury or illness. This makes it hard to treat them accordingly. He often has to convince them that he needs utmost honesty from them in order to do his best. (suspicious trait, silver-tongued human trait)
Not to mention some of them never return for follow-up examinations, and he is unable to reach them. There is a poison in the city, and he doesn't know what it is, but he wants to root it out and cleanse the city of its foul taint. (Conspiracy Hunter trait)
EDIT: the stats in the profile are all under the Hero lab entry. I am in the process of switching the spoilered ones to his actual stats.

AdamantVallation |

Sorry I've been slacking, I made a post all about it the other game I'm playing, short version here. Life sucks, need to check the boards more, making sure I'm doing that, I will attempt to have my character posted up NLT the end of this weekend, and will be ready to go.

Da'Ka Eartaker |

Perception:People tolerate Da'ka with exasperated smiles mainly because he's so damn dependable. If it weren't for his incessant yammering about his latest conspiracy theory, he could easily receive full patronage from any of the wealthier houses of Westcrown. Bottom line... if you need something found, property returned, debts collected, or hard-to-come-by information, you call on Da'ka.
Religion: Da'ka doesn't worship Groetus so much as he attributes everything to him. Every conspiracy line of reasoning eventually leads to Groetus.
History: A street urchin, Da'ka grew up wandering the streets or Westcrown, learning the shops, faces and power players that inhabit it. Doing odd jobs for storekeepers and merchants, Da'ka relied upon his back alley education to find whatever his contracts required. Being without family, a half-breed, and crazier than a s*$$house rat, Da'ka spent most of his youth running from and fighting off more privileged kids, who were more often than not, humans. This constant abuse by humans taught Da'ka their natural failings, vulnerabilities, how they think, etc... making him an especially well suited bounty hunter.
