Zephra notes the difficulty that the creature has speaking, and thinks back on the village elder's claim that the Beast swore loudly when struck. This does not seem like the same creature they encountered there, she thinks pensively.
"If you didn't do the crimes they accuse you of doing, then we will try to convince the people who locked you up to let you go," she says reassuringly. "Do you know what they say you did?"

Timona steps up and says, "Yes, we are friends. Glad to meet you, I'm Timona." She waits for the answer to Zephra's question.
They say I killed people in Morast. I didn't do it. I lived in a cave and they chased me away.
They say I stole from the university. I didn't do it. I went to sleep but woke up there and they put me in these chains.
They say I destroyed the sanctuary but I didn't do it, I only went there once and they chased me away.
They say I killed Ellsa and the children in Herstag. But Ellsa was friend. I lived by the lake. The ghost that walks at night killed the children. I tried to tell the people and bring back Ellsa's body but they chased me away.
As the Beast mentions Ellsa's name it starts to cry, it can't shed tears but it howls. Its stitches pull taut and it would look from a distance as if the creature was laughing

"Well, one step at a time. We can defend each of those cases day by day during your trial. Of course any and all info you can give us will help your innocence. Do any names come to mind of people you've met that make you feel really pushed down by? Anyone who's giving you more of a hard time than perhaps the others?"
I don't know, most people don't like me. In Morast and Sanctuary I saw a strange creature from a distance that looked a bit like me, it headed into the city but I don't know where it went.
Anything else you want to ask the Beast?

Timona asks, "Was this creature that looked like you, was it the same size or smaller? Do you recall?"
"Have you ever been inside the university before?"
"Why did you go to the sanctuary?"
"I am sorry about your friend, if we find her body we will make sure she is given a proper funeral and I will personally let you know."
The creature was about the same size as me.
I've never been to the university before.
I went to the Sanctuary to look for food
She is already buried, I found her body in the ghost's lair on the hill. I tried to take it back to her parents but they thought I'd killed her so they chased me away.

People fear and hate what they don't understand. What we're trying to do here is rectify wrongs. To prove to the world that despite your looks or origins, you aren't the sum of your parts. You're not the monster you appear. Ortensia said to the Beast,imporingly.
You nice lady....Wait there is something I remember. Strange creature was at Sanctuary, he argued with the doctor and then there was a fire. I followed the creature back to Lepidstadt and he went to a building with yellow smoke (he describes the chymic works)
Also the ghost that walks at night killed the children and then sent the children he killed to kill the others.

"Yeah, I'm not one for revenge... but justice we can do!" Timona nods at the others that she is ready.
So what do you want to do now, it's about an hour now until it gets dark
The guards take the Beast back to the cells for the evening and you are politely but firmly escorted outside.

"I'm hungry. Perhaps we eat and rest while we wait for sundown." Timona finds a place to sit outside and digs into her bag and pulls out some rations and starts munching on them. "So we are going to sneak in and look for clues?"

"I think I would rather investigate the chymic works than go to where the ghost children haunt after dark," she says slowly.
You head back to the chymic works. Even in the dark thick smoke billows from the chimneys. You can no longer see the mongrelmen moving around, however it looks as if the hound has been released from its chain to roam around.

Is there any lighting? Are we in low light setting or dark?
Timona will try her best to be quiet as we sneaks up to the gate to look inside and see the dog like creature. She forgot what exactly the plan was and looks over to her allies? She shrugs.

We feel pretty confident that someone from the chymic works impersonated the Beast, right? I guess we would feel justified breaking in to find evidence since they rebuffed us earlier. Zephra would argue that we should try not to kill anyone or anything, though.
I think that was the general thinking

I'm not really one to lead an infiltration? Did one of the other characters want to take the lead?

Well, if we're agreed we're going to break in, Zephra will lead the charge against the doglike creature. Someone else will have to open the gate, though. :)
Ortensia is able to pick the lock of the main gate. The gate can now be pushed open. It does not appear as if the hound has heard the lock being picked
You are able to sneak past the hound while it is in a corner, there is a door in front of you which seems to be the main building or a side door to the east which is where the mongrelmen where coming out of.

Let's head for the main building?
This chamber occupies a whole side of the building, from the cellar level below up to the roof high above. Seven iron vats each ten feet across, occupy the majority of the room. Furnaces fuel the vats at cellar level, while at the ground floor level a series of planks have been laid across the vats to allow passage to a ladder that leads to an iron walkway on the level above. Two ladders also allow access to the floor below. The air in the chamber is cloying and acidic.

Zephra sees that Timona is feeling ill at the powerful smell of the chemicals. "Let's get further inside, away from these vats!" she whispers to the others. She throws open a door and holds it for the catfolk bard to push through.
I've gone with the room nearest to where you are
This room overlooks the courtyard and has a retractable timber and iron crane to lower goods into wagons below through a sliding wooden door. Presently the room has only a few wooden cases in it. Among the boxes are 12 vials of acid, 12 vials of nushadir, five tanglefoot bags and three thunderstones

Patting Timona on the back in an attempt to ease her sickened state, Ortensia flinched when she nearly knocked the poor catfolk over.
Busying herself by inspecting and gathering the items, Ortensia kept her voice low. She divided the items up as evenly as she could while glancing about cautiously.

Timona puts the items in her belt pouch as she's trying to hold in vomit. "We should check the other doors on this floor."

Zephra listens at the doors while Ortensia goes through the items, trying to tell if there is anyone else in the building.

From the next door you can hear the sound of something being dropped in liquid, this seems to be happening repeatedly.
In the next room along (room 7) you can hear the sounds of chuckling and what sounds like something tearing. You can hear nothing from the final room on this level (room 8)
