Morning Folks,
DMB I have gone through the ARG, taken the humanoid base (with dwarf and orc subtype) and built a 10 race point character using orcish and dwarfish traits and one due to what he has become. I am building him under the Scarless Kruge alias until I get a chance to edit that placeholder.
Rorek, I've spent a while thinking about a 3 stat for my guy and my first stop was the initial description of the stat in the core rulebook.
Charisma (Cha)
Charisma measures a character's personality, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and appearance. It is the most important ability for paladins, sorcerers, and bards. It is also important for clerics, since it affects their ability to channel energy. For undead creatures, Charisma is a measure of their unnatural “lifeforce.” Every creature has a Charisma score. A character with a Charisma score of 0 is not able to exert himself in any way and is unconscious.
If it was Cha 9 or 8 then I would normally come up with one negative character trait based off one of the highlighted natures. For a 3 I'm looking for something that encompasses all of them but still leaves me with someone I want to play. And he has to be able to interact with the party.
Cheers

Baern Steelskull was an excellent 5-charisma dwarf. Use him as an example. He was rancid smelling, hard to understand, ass-ugly and very unpleasant to be around despite his overall good intentions.
He died in the first book, and only the halfling was sad about it. But even she didn't miss the smell.

Sorry, but I'm not taking custom race submissions for this. It needs to be an official race. I'm okay with the character's premise, but it will need to be an experimented upon result using one of the component races as the baseline.

ROOOOLL THOSE DICE!!!
I'd like to create a motherly (but stern) female dwarf who adopts the younger party members.

Right, no need to apologise GMB, I misunderstood. I shall make lemonade. Probably looking at a race that improves Int and does not reduce Cha so dwarf is definitely out.

(Alias of Aerondor here, I'll make a new alias when the new-alias functionality is working once again).
So, I'm thinking a very cross blooded aasimar(anglelkin) here. One with a hint of orc, dragon and who knows what else.
"Mongrel" - That'll be the name. And probably barbarian for her favoured class - reflecting a very rugged upbringing. And just to be different we'll not dump CHA as a stat.
STR 20(18+2); DEX 10; CON: 10; INT 8; WIS 8; CHA 13(11+2)
Roll on the alias functionality working.

Runge |

What's with the "New alias" thing? I made an alias on the day this was posted, no issues.
Brimley, is it alright if I don't "lock in" on a class with my character? Currently she's a skald, but if you run with a barbarian, she would be better as a bard. Would it be alright simply putting Skald/bard as class?

ChuffyTheKnife |

There is a thread about the alias problem.
Everything else is random, lets do height and age too
height: 60 + 2d8 ⇒ 60 + (6, 4) = 70
age: 60 + 4d6 ⇒ 60 + (3, 4, 2, 1) = 70
Mongrel is 5' 10" and a 70 year old assimar(angelkin) barbarian
STR 20(18+2); DEX 10; CON: 10; INT 8; WIS 8; CHA 13(11+2)
(sorry, progressive posting here in free time at work)

I will allow character tweaks or small rebuilds between recruitment close and game start. Go ahead and build it as one class for the sake of simplicity. I think it's important for a group to have a discussion before presenting final characters, and be given a chance to make their characters more compatible.

I appreciate the interest. I will need to see all of the creation guidelines fulfilled before I consider characters, however. Best of luck.
Ah, the nostalgia of rolling for stats pairs well with an AP that harkens back to the classics. I hope by now those six-siders of yours are well and truly warmed up! When you get a moment, please give them a toss for me so I can see what I have to work with.
Their hearts are far too cold to experience such a sensation as warmth.

Grafelda Moroe |

Scenario 1
Grafelda's heart seizes at the sound of the scream. She begins to hyperventilate as she wakes to the sight of the bars around her. "No...not again..." she whispers, before noticing the shadowed bulk of the giantess in the cave before her. Augh! She's even bigger than Bokrug. Hill giant by the look of her. Dull, cruel, parasitic. Strong, but vulnerable to a good trick... Grafelda's mouth forms a hard line around her jutting tusks as she stares up at the giant defiantly. If I can make her angry enough, she might open the cage. Then I can try to put her to sleep and run for it.
"Borða mig ef þú þóknast, fitu-boltanum! Ég mun standa í craw þinn og þú munt kafna til dauða á beinum mínum. Ég er Grafelda Moroe og eina saga ég mun snúast þér er að eigin andlát þitt!
==========
Scenario 2
"I live here..." Grafelda roughly replies. She sets down her own wooden cup of Andoran whiskey and gives the Ulfen a long appraising look. "I don't know what you've heard but I'm no great warrior. I am a shaman, scholar and healer. I only fight when I have to."
Damned outsiders. Who would come all the way out here to Trunau anyway? Only someone crazy, I guess. Must have some insane task he needs performed if this is the best place he can think to recruit.
"What do you want me to do, and how much are you paying, bub?" Grafelda nearly sneers at the Ulfen filling the time until he responds with a long draw on her whiskey.
==========
Scenario 3
Grafelda holds still as her companions scramble to pry at the doors. She carefully notes everything that the voice is saying, remembering it for later. As soon as the laughter fades, she chants a short spell, and her eyes shift into the magical spectrum. She scans the room for magical auras, and stuggles to recall anything she might know about this place or these objects. "We need to approach this logically. It's probably some kind of puzzle or trap," she says.
Now what are you...? she wonders, looking carefully over the room and combing her mind for information.
Cast detect magic. Concentrate on any auras and try to identify them using Spellcraft. Take 10 on spellcraft, and knowledge (arcana, local, and nature) to see if I know anything about the statue, voice or tapestries.
==========
With that, I believe my submission is complete!

More on Mongrel. I'll probably need to make some changes when I pick my second trait and first level feat. Obviously she has dwarven training as her campaign trait.
Mongrel was born in Trunau, though nobody apart from maybe Silvermane remembers that day - and he at least won't be speaking of it to anyone. Even as an infant she was different. Slow to grow, strange of colouration. Nobody really knew what to make or her or do with her- least of all her mother.
While she was still a babe her mother met with a caravan of dwarven merchants at the barterstones. She begged for the dwarves to take the child. One of them took mercy on her (and what little money she had) and did indeed take the girl child. Back to the mines he took her. Perhaps the first surprise the dwarves had was that the young child could see as well as any dwarf under the mountain. They put that down to orc blood, and bad things were said about her.
Still, Krak (as she was named in dwarven) worked hard. She found the toil of the mines difficult, but again, this was put down to her lacking the stamina of any true dwarf. She also made several very poor decisions - again ascribed by the dwarves as due to her human heritage. Through it all though she showed willingness and good spirits. Above all, she showed a physical strength of mammoth proportions. Again, whispers of orcish influence were said behind the forges, but not to her.
And in spite of her inability to work long shifts, and the need to supervise her much more closely "than any dwarf would require" she found it easy to make friends. Her kind and caring nature and early adoption of the dwarven language made her a favourite.
The growth of Krak into a young woman took a long time. But again, as dwarves count these things, perhaps it was not so long after all - certainly they didn't pay any particular attention to the fact that other humans would be grand parents or even older while she was still (slowly) growing. It was the growing that eventually caused the most problems. More and more often, Krak would find she could not easily fit into the tunnels that the other dwarves used. Eventually she gave up trying and took to looking after the flocks in the dwarven mountain meadows.
Krak loved the meadows and the goats she tended. She loved the outdoors, and while she missed her friends in the mines, soon came to realise that they were not the place for her. An important part of the job was to protect the flocks from raiding orcs and ogres. So Krak was trained in a variety of weapons - although not the traditional dwarven ones which her size made in appropriate. Around this time she also began to ask her "father" where she came from. Hearing at last of Trunau, Krak resolved to travel there to find her family.
Sadly, while to the dwarves she looked no different that any other 'human', the humans she met along the road could easily tell she came from a very mixed background. In the weeks it took her to travel to Trunau, she eventually became resigned to probably not fitting in, and adopted the name of "mongrel" to stave off questions in advance.
In Trunau she found an unexpected welcome. Nobody knew of her mother (for the dwarves had never learned her name), but that mattered less to the people of the town than her strong arms and willingness to use them in defence of the town walls and the towns sheep.
In the last two years, Mongrel has found that Trunau has a lot to offer her, and she has become known as a capable, if untalented shepherd.
Slow: Mongrel takes her time to think things over. She especially doesn't like to be rushed into making decisions. That said, when she is in combat she just reacts and doesn't think at all. If there is a clear plan that has been worked out in advance and explained to her in detail, she can follow it without much problem, but when thinking on her feet she often ends up frustrated and making poor decisions.
Kind: Mongrel doesn't like to see things suffer. Whether it be beast, person or plant. That doesn't mean she won't chop off your head, but she'd try to do it in one clean blow.
Lonely: Mongrol feels that she doesn't really fit into any 'society'. She still feels the loss and rejection of her mother - who she has no memories of. She left the dwarven settlement because she just physically didn't fit in any longer - though she was quite happy when she lived there. She probably trusts dwarves more than humans as a first impulse and shares some of that races prejudices. Even now in Trunau she lives outside the walls more often than inside, and has taken a job that gives her quite a lot of physical isolation. While her hybrid heritage has given her quite an 'exotic' good look, she only sees the flaws and things that make her look different.
Dreamer: Mongrel day-dreams. She dreams of flying over the world and looking down. She dreams of a knight on a white charger swooping down and saving her from her hum-drug existence. She dreams of the mother she never knew. Even in groups she can quickly slip into a day dream and lose track of the conversation if not constantly and actively engaged in it.
Mongrel is quite attractive in a vaguely alien way. Those who know of assimar can easily identify her as one, rather than fully human. Slightly longer teeth than normal suggest a hint of orc in her heritage, as do the massive muscles that make up the bulk of her form. Her hair is blonde and has a vaguely silver-ish look to it, hinting again at some more oddity in her ancestry.
Mongrel awakens with a groan and a thundering head ache. I'm sure I didn't drink too much in The Killing Ground last... oh ...
Finally taking into account the scene in front of her, Mongrel stops for a moment.
"Ahhhh" she starts, and then stops."That is..Once upon a.."
What goes next? Once upon a hill? Once upon a dragon mount?....That sounds good
"Yes anyway, once upon a dragon mount there rode a mighty ..."
What rides dragons? Nothing rides dragons, I'm going to be dinner, I know it.
Stalling for time, she stretches out against the bones of the cage, trying her non inconsiderable strength against them.
Ooohh, I remember when Krali told me a story with me in it.
"Rode the mighty giant.."
She just said her name, what was it? What was it? Arrghhhhh
Mongrel again presses herself against the bars, looking to wrench them apart.
"<huff>The mighty dragon You. You rode on the mighty dragon. And the land trembled beneath you."
Mongrel looks at the man warily. "Not many men buy me drinks."
That doesn't stop her taking it and drinking. After a moment it dawns on her that she has yet to reply.
"By asking?" she says
Witty. Where did that come from. Surely you want more than just to be asked. Although he is kind of pretty. Now you're getting distracted.
"And gold. By asking, and by gold."
Go girl, you tell him. Oh, hang on, I didn't say how much gold. But how am I supposed to know how much gold when he hasn't told me what he wants me to do? arghh"
Mongrel clutches the table with one hand hard. The other inadvertently crushes the drinking horn.
"Sorry. " she adds. "but you didn't tell me what you wanted me for. Do you have sheep that need to be shorn?"
Mongrel backs up to the door, fear evident in her eyes. Slowly she draws her sword, holding it in front of her as a shield against the unknown. Keeping her eyes on the gargoyle and the weapons, Mongrel grabs quick glances around the room, looking for anything that might be used as a ram to smash open the doors and allow her to escape.
Slowly, and careful to keep her back to the wall, Mongrel circles the room, keeping her eyes on the weapons.
"Umm, hello Arlanghar. I was just passing through. You wouldn't feel like opening the door again for me would you?"

Mongrel is amazing xD She's so opposite the character I'm making xD.
Here's what I've got so far. It's a WIP, but it's getting along nicely I think. It took me awhile to find Paizo sources on the Shoanti, and studying it has proven a more extensive task than I imagined ^^.

Currently at work but i have great interest in this AP. Brimley, roll the bones and I'll get a character for the guidelines created tonight after work!
3d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 1) = 6
3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 4) = 14
11, 13, 10, 5, 17, 8
or 8, 12, 11, 6, 14, 12

Brimleydower |

Yes, I think I want to play this game.
And I don't fear the randomness of dice rolls - Bring it Brimleydower! :D
I spoke too soon.
3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3) = 8
3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1) = 5
3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 5) = 11
3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2) = 8
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 4) = 9
10, 7, 6, 10, 8, 8
or 10, 8, 5, 11, 8, 8

Brimleydower |

So do you have recommendations when the dice give me a negative point-buy? Because otherwise, my character would belong in a nursing home or institution, not going out adventuring.
You did end up with a 16, so if you find a decent SAD build it won't be as big a deal as it looks on paper. Also, there are many many spells that aren't affected by ability scores at all.

Tanner Nielsen |

7, 8, 9, 6, 8, 16
If we were in the "Play as a Peasant" game I would be up for it, but a negative point-buy? Can I at least just switch to the option without dice? Because otherwise it plays out like this:
"Who will help our village against the giants?"
"I will go! I'm really strong!"
"...Frank, you're also uncoordinated, sickly, dumb, naive, and ugly. I think sending anyone else would be a better idea."

Brimleydower |

If I allow people to revert to the point-buy any time they roll under it, it eliminates the point of the choice to begin with. I cautioned about rolling in the opening post, and several times throughout the course of the thread itself. Even my current alias profile is a wall of what the odds are (as well as a tracking measure for me).
I want this game to be brutal. I want it to feel like a struggle of little people against giants instead of a typical romp through a dungeon or wilderness. Beyond that, and particularly regarding the low roll results, I'm interested in seeing how people respond when the deck is stacked against them. I mentioned it before: flawed characters can be fun. Some of the funnest characters I've played or played with have been extremely unlikely heroes. Someone who is capable of taking a lame duck and turning it into an interesting character appeals to me. If that does not appeal to some people, that's perfectly fine, but this is probably not the game for them if so (and there will be plenty of other Giantslayers rolling out in the coming month, I'm sure).

CampinCarl9127 |

If I've missed any one or overlooked questions up to this point, let me know. The walls of numbers are starting to muddle me.
Let me be of assistance with that. For your convenience Brimleydower. The information dump is quite large, so I put it in a spoiler to keep it a little more organized. If I missed or misrepresented anybody, let me know. I only looked through what was posted in this thread.

I see no reason not to go with the 17 and 5 build lol I will work something out. my only question is a bookkeeping one. Are we submitting characters straight to you? I'm a bit unfamiliar with how the paizo boards allow for characters.

I'm interested. Rooooooooooll em if you got em.
EDIT: @Tanner: I think Raistlin (when he was played) had something like a 4/5/4 in his physical attributes, plus terrible charisma. I don't remember my sources for that, but it's really doable.
3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5) = 7
3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3) = 10
3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 6, 2) = 16
13, 7, 12, 6, 11, 13
or 12, 9, 7, 10, 10, 14

Some people are experiencing issues related to creating and editing aliases (myself included). This Link for reference.
For the time being just store the information wherever you would like and put it in a new alias when able to do so. There is still plenty of time until recruitment ends, so no rush.

Brimleydower, I was going to have my dwarven barbarian take the attached drawback.
Attached
You have a strong emotional attachment to a person or object that you’re terrified of losing.
Effect: The GM chooses the object of your attachment. Whenever the object of your attachment is either threatened, in danger, or in someone else’s possession, you take a –1 penalty on Will saves and a –2 penalty on saves against fear effects. If the person or object to which you’re attached is ever lost, killed, or destroyed, exchange this drawback for the Doubt drawback.
RAW states that you would choose what my object of attachment is. However I know that many GMs allow their players to choose their own. My question is how do you want to handle this?
