Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

A Perception check would help with that... ;-)

Male Human (Mwangi) Druid (Jungle Druid) 4 AC 20/12/18 / HP 29/29 / F +5 R +3 W +9 (+4 vs animals and disease) / Init. +2 (+2 in Jungle's) / Perc. +12 (+2 in Jungles))

I would be happy to cast Light on something for you.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Thanks Kamal. My scimitar, if you please? Reports of dead things walking means I'll be walking with the blade out, I think.

Perception check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25, or +1 more if it's a trap.

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

Although he's become accustomed to being ignored, Gelik's shoulders slump a bit. He takes his position in the middle of the group, hoping that the mine isn't actually stuffed with monsters. Though he suspects that it probably is.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The wooden beams supporting the mine’s main entrance are weathered and sagging. Water trickles down the sloping floor among the wooden footholds leading down the main shaft. Inside the mine, the tunnels are pitch black. The walls of the mine are carved from gray rock salt, and most of the tunnels and chambers in the mine are flooded with water, ranging in depth from knee-deep to shoulder-deep. Narrow walkways connected by rickety wooden bridges run along the walls in most of the rooms and passages.

As you approach the pool where the water is collecting, Torch spots something moving beneath the surface. It's hard to tell exactly what it is, since it seems to be transparent, but the movement is unmistakeable. Something is lurking there.

Knowledge(dungeoneering) 14:
This is a crystal ooze, an aquatic variety of gray ooze.

I think we'd better go into initiatives at this point. The passage is wide enough to allow a double file if you prefer.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

Knowledge(Dungeoneering) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 what does Aerys know about this ooze

"Careful Torch" says Aerys loudly, "that thing is a crystal ooze, perhaps we can find a way round it. The thing is deadly and not unlike the grey ooze." says Aerys backing away and motioning the others to back away also.

Init 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The ooze secretes a paralytic agent and dissolves metal and wood if given enough time.

The passage is narrow enough that you'll have to deal with the ooze one way or other if you are to proceed.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Torch follows Aerys' lead, backing away from the ooze. "Ranged attacks," he tells the others. "Need a new light source, Kamal, I need to sheathe my blade."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Since you're going to beat its initiative, you can all unleash a round's worth of ranged attacks before it disappears below the surface.

Male Human (Mwangi) Druid (Jungle Druid) 4 AC 20/12/18 / HP 29/29 / F +5 R +3 W +9 (+4 vs animals and disease) / Init. +2 (+2 in Jungle's) / Perc. +12 (+2 in Jungles))

Backing away quickly, Kamal throws his hand up and causes one of the overhanging rocks to glow with a pale white light.

Assuming that we need light, Kamal will cast a light spell on a rock overhang for the cavern and then back away 30' feet.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Seeing the ooze withdrawing back under the water, Torch forgoes the niceties and just drops his scimitar on the mine floor, readying how bow quickly, notching an arrow and letting it fly.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11.

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

Aerys takes aim and fires into the oozes body, hoping to have made enough allowance for the reflection caused by the water.

MWrk Shortbow attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Shortbow damage 1d6 ⇒ 4

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

Gelik imperiously points his finger at the ooze, hoping that it will spontaneously burst into flame. Casts Spontaneous Immolation

He doesn't have high hopes, as the mindless yet somehow cowardly bag of crud is already fleeing underwater, but it's his best option.

Spontaneous Immolation: The target takes 3d6 points of fire damage and catches on fire. A successful Fortitude save reduces this damage by half and prevents the target from catching on fire. Each round on your turn, a burning target can attempt a new save to extinguish the flames (DC equal to the DC of the spell); otherwise it takes another 1d6 fire damage.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

Ralf tries blasting it with a burst of sound.

Discordant Note: 4d4 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 3) = 8 sonic + staggered for 1 round, DC 16 Fort save for 1/2 damage and no staggering

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Alas, crystal oozes are immune to fire.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The ooze takes a little damage from Ralf's spell and none from Gelik's.

It stays underwater for a while. You may pass and leave it to the expedition to mop up, but it may make your retreat a bit more perilous. Your choice.

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

Hey! I learned something!

Cowardly, unnatural, pus-bag. Gelik mutters. Still, all it did was attack us unprovoked, presumably to kill and eat us. Nothing more than your average she-savage and pet two-legged doom would do instinctively. Probably just has daddy issues. I propose we attempt to make it an ally. Maybe set up a palaver for after we murder whatever else is lurking in this armpit of a mine. He looks like he's going to add more sarcasm, but tires of his own joke and gives it up.

After you. He gestures grandly to anyone who'll lead the way, then follows, in the middle of the pack.

Male Human (Mwangi) Druid (Jungle Druid) 4 AC 20/12/18 / HP 29/29 / F +5 R +3 W +9 (+4 vs animals and disease) / Init. +2 (+2 in Jungle's) / Perc. +12 (+2 in Jungles))

Kamal sighs at the tirade from Gelikugel yet a small smile manages to peek through the Mwagani mans stony exterior. So moving on then?

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

"If by moving on you mean, we clear the way of obstacles for our train, then I am with you on that Kamal." says Aerys. "But we shouldn't leave it here to disrupt the expedition that follows?" Aerys looks around for a large boulder rock, loose on the mines floor.

Perception 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6

Did it look like the arrows did any damage to the ooze? I'm assuming not as you didn't mention it. I'm thinking in true Indianna Jones style, we get a big boulder and roll it down the tunnel, crushing the ooze or at least trapping it under the boulder.....Obviously not big enoughy to block the tunnel....

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

Can't we, in true Indiana Jones fashion, run away?

Male Human (Mwangi) Druid (Jungle Druid) 4 AC 20/12/18 / HP 29/29 / F +5 R +3 W +9 (+4 vs animals and disease) / Init. +2 (+2 in Jungle's) / Perc. +12 (+2 in Jungles))

Pointing towards the passge leading out, Kamal nods to Aerys. Yes, we should clear out the obstacles. Do you wish to wait for the creature to surface?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Yes, the arrows did hurt it. By the way, you'll still get the xp even if you decide to move on.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

XP is less important in this context than damage or delays to the expedition. I'd rather wait, then approach again and see if we can draw it out. (It's an ooze, after all - not the brightest bulb in the lamp.) Maybe we can kite it to death that way.

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

"Kamal, if you can light an arrow, maybe we can skewer it and make it shine in the darkness. Then let us keep it at range, take it down slowly but surely. Torch is the best to try, his name lends itself to such a task." says Aerys hoping to finish off the danger.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Given enough time and patience you can easily destroy it.

You are then able to move deeper into the mines, treading gingerly along the ledge until you reach a bridge over to the other side where the ledge continues.

Perception 22:
There seems to be a pair of humanoid creatures lurking under the bridge.

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28, -4 if it's a Listen check, +4 if it's night

"Pssst!" Ralf whispers. "There's a couple of shifty looking characters under that bridge. Don't let them get the jump on us!"

Male Human (Mwangi) Druid (Jungle Druid) 4 AC 20/12/18 / HP 29/29 / F +5 R +3 W +9 (+4 vs animals and disease) / Init. +2 (+2 in Jungle's) / Perc. +12 (+2 in Jungles))

Carefully, Kamal raises his hand. I can flush them out with some light. He whispers.

Tom how much XP was the Ooze?

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

Torch has his scimitar ready to hand again. "Be ready," he whispers. "Remember, we were told to expect the dead..."

Female Human Fighter (Mobile) 5 HP:43/54 AC19/T13/FF16 (AC23vsAoO) Condition:

Aerys creeps forward, her longsword ready, her shield up. She whispers to Ralf "So what creatures are these, can you tell?" She peers into the darkness, searching but not seeing, above all she tries to keep quiet.

Raising his hand, Kamal calls up the power of the sun. It is the same power that causes the flowers to bloom and grass to grow. It feels hot in his chest. Pointing a finger, light blossoms near the crouched figures that are hiding below the bridge.

Ok, here we go!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Map is up, and the trolls (or whatever they are) beneath the bridge go on 5, so you can probably act before they do.

Roll for initiative. The monsters are currently submerged, so you may have to hold your missile fire until they come out.

Damn that was close.

Gelik delays to see what the bridge trolls do.

I'll ready an action - if the foes are Medium or smaller and move into melee range, I'll attack; otherwise, as soon as I see they aren't Medium-sized or smaller or they aren't moving into melee range, I'll switch to Full Defense.

Attack roll, if needed: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21, damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Aerys follows Torch and attacks the other creature.

Longsword power damage 1d8 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 4 = 8

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Kamal can't make out much more than that they are humanoid and probably dead as there are no bubbles and they don't seem to be aquatic.

I'm assuming that Aerys following Torch means readying an action? That's probably your best bet. Then there is Kamal and Ralf to go, then the monsters.

Yep, please ready ...

male human oracle 5 (lore mystery, stargazer archetype, words of power)

Ralf waits for them to leave the water, then he casts Glitterdust on them.

Kamal holds up his hand that a moment ago he used to create light, that is instead now wreathed in flame. He holds his hand at the ready to launch a bolt of fire upon the watery creatures.

Damage (fire) 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The dead guys clamber up onto the bridge and lumber towards you, whereupon they are promptly hit by Kamal's bolt and Ralf's spell. One of them is blinded.

They don't come all the way, so they don't trigger your readied attacks, but you can keep the rolls if you want to attack them, and Torch gets to add some sneak damage.

Your turn.

Male Human (Mwangi) Druid (Jungle Druid) 4 AC 20/12/18 / HP 29/29 / F +5 R +3 W +9 (+4 vs animals and disease) / Init. +2 (+2 in Jungle's) / Perc. +12 (+2 in Jungles))

Their still comming! Kamal barks throwing another bolt of flame at the flame wreathed creature.

Ranged touch attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Black Tom, I don't think we got XP for the ooze, FYI.

male half-elf ranger (guide) 2 / rogue 3

I didn't roll the sneak damage because they would've had an action and not be flat-footed anymore, but since one of them is blind...

Torch moves forward and slashes at the blinded corpse.

He does a total of 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 damage.

Male gnome Sorcerer 5 (maestro bloodline) HP: 32/38 AC: 13/13/11 F+3 R+3 W+4

I feel like stabbing these guys...I'm gonna stab one of these guys.

Gelik moves just far enough forward to attack the closest enemy.

attack with spear 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
damage1d6 ⇒ 6

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Aerys and Kamal finish off the dead man that is not blind, while Gelik and Torch attack the other. He flails wildly but fails to connect with Torch. Eventually he regains his sight though.

You are up again.

And the ooze is worth 240 xp to you each.

Male Human (Mwangi) Druid (Jungle Druid) 4 AC 20/12/18 / HP 29/29 / F +5 R +3 W +9 (+4 vs animals and disease) / Init. +2 (+2 in Jungle's) / Perc. +12 (+2 in Jungles))

Flames lick Kamal's hand as he holds another orb of fire in his palm. He waits to see how the attacks from the rest of the group will fair before he attacks.
