”Yeah so, there must have been some kind of miscommunication because I thought he was telling me I would find a Cyclopian city at the mouth of a river delta, not a stone hut and a couple of shacks without a real store—kinda near the shore.”

Mia Ravenlock |

OOC, I as a player relish the opportunity to make a deal with the devil. IC, mia is reasonably hesitant haha.

Dargys |

Welcome to Ivan!
The reason I am speaking in theory is, as I informed the DM via PM some time ago, I am strongly considering resigning from this game once we come to the close of this story arc with Borjan. Foremost, we've gone a long time and my energy is petering. As the campaign progresses, Kalig is ability-wise completely redundant and increasingly less and less the personality type to do well in the party. I could adapt and deal with the latter were it not for the former--at the end of the day I'm burning out and need to move on.
I'm not leaving yet--again I plan to see through to the end of the story arc--but since we're talking about the future of the game. Kalig's shrine and garden by the spring dedicated to Gozreh will always be there for the town.
Even in my short time in the group, I noticed Kalig pushing the party and action moving forward, which is and has been appreciated. Thanks for sticking through the story arc.
I hope your energy refreshes :)

"Is Baby steps. This year, a couple of shacks, but, in 10 years? We get McDragon's Franchise!"

Kalig |

Thanks very much, folks. :) I'm still sticking around till the end of this arc so we'll see what happens.
And there will always be time in the future for the druids to take over the world. :)

"No, no cyclopian city here, although old Jeb the Trapper is pretty tall and lost an eye."

Mia Ravenlock |

WEll, there was that ruin I saved your butts at, wasn't there?
This dragonling will be a bad influence on Mia. I can see it coming.

Mia Ravenlock |

No, there was no point at which Mia vanished from the party. No. I swear. *whistles*

Mia Ravenlock |

neato.
Mia will retrain her 3rd level feat into boon companion. (costing 1000gp)

+1 spells(2nd and 3rd)
Eep will be getting a large boost, that I will cover later.
Also, what do we want to do in regards to our blue dragon? Summon now? Or wait and hope we can deal with that at a later date?

Dargys |

Francoix Delacouis |

So there was a relic bow that might be empowered in the ziggarat... anyone want it or can Francoix acquire it for use?
I definitely say we wait, while trying to use the dragon against the upcoming forces sounds good, we dont have the umph to take it out if it decides we look tasty. Maybe after we repower some relics we found tehre?
Although I am also game with trying to deal with the dragon now...besides really we need to talk to our liege lord about it as well.

Mia Ravenlock |

DM, would you be OK with Mia retraining another feat (if we are allowed the time?) it would take a total of 10 days, and a cost of 2000gp for both feats, I think.
As for the feat, it would be either-
Or Craft Wonderous Items, with a heavy theme on natural materials of course. Belts would be any variations of vine or hide, headbands made from flowers, etc etc.
If Allowed, I wanted to ask the party which they would prefer? I will likely take the one not selected at 7. I'm leaning towards wild speech, as that would amp Mia's versatility up quite a bit. And because then I could roleplay as Aslan haha.
The craft feat would be to help the party as a whole get access to items they would want, and it being cheaper is a bonus. And would fit with Mia's theme as somewhat of magical nature crafter (her having a potion shop and the like).
If the DM would rather me not take one of the above, or doesn't want me to retrain an additional feat, well thats that.

Kalig |

Wild Speech would have practical use for party interaction and some comedic moments.
Craft Wondrous Items of course has other value, though it depends on how much downtime we are going to get for crafting. Possibly a lot, as this game has had periods of in-character downtime.
Were it me I'd go for Wild Speech but there are good arguments for either.

Mia Ravenlock |

hmm. Actually, after re-reading the feat, I would likely take natural spell at level 7, not the crafting one(since wild speech only covers verbal components, oddly enough). And so, fear the Thunder Sparrow! lol.

Kalig |

Want to be VERY clear Kalig is super scared of the Galts and so someone being like "I've learned everything I can about you in 24 hours" is really creeping her out. I'm roleplaying a bit, not trying to give our new player a hard time. AS a player I am enjoying the opportunity and seeing what Ivan has to say! Hopefully she's concluded with something we can work with. :)
Finally leveled up:
HP +5
BAB and Saves went up
Can cast 1 more 2nd and 3rd level spell (currently memorized: Sleet Storm and Barkskin; will change according to occasion)
Skills: +1 Handle Animal (Background), +1 Knowledge History (Background) +1, +2 to Diplomacy (in spite of current circumstances, she's been talking for the party more), Knowledge Local +1, Knowledge nature +1, Knowledge Nobility (since Dorick is gone), +1 Perception, +1 Survival (that's 2 BG feats, 5 skill points per level and 1 favored class).
Plus I totally forgot that I'd given her the Scent ability from a feat during last level so I've made that more obvious in her microstatblock.
And finally.... she gets A Thousand Faces. So I'm thinking the next day she wakes up looking totally like someone else and having a bit of a freakout, if we've some time for shenanigans. If there is no time for shenanigans then that's okay too.

An important update for all my games:
My apologies for putting off this announcement, but my wife and I will be welcoming our first child into the world next week.
This means that my ability to post next week will be very erratic starting on Monday. Once the three of us are home from the hospital, I will do my best to maintain regular posting. I will home for a few weeks on paternity leave, so that should hopefully give me opportunity to post.

Mia Ravenlock |

congratulations, and best of luck! a child can be quite a joy and quite a handful at once.

Kalig |

Congrats, Vayelan! I'm not gonna be surprised if you end up not posting much. Newborns, I understand, can be quite the handful--but a wonderful one. :)

You are about to hop on a wonderful and exhausting roller coaster. The emotions are intense and take lots of pictures and videos. They change so fast.

Mia Ravenlock |

I think I'll be taking the wild speech/natural spell stuff. As an aside, two further questions, one for the DM (when he finds the time) and one for the others.
@DM, would you allow for Mia to make use of her potions in animal form? That is, to drink them? I didn't ask before, but with wild speech allowing for spell completion and the like, I figured I would ask.
@others, as for the threat of the galt army, do you think we could make use of the Mirage spell if it does indeed come down to open conflict?

Mia Ravenlock |

Matriarchial Druidocracy
this, this is cannon now. No, not just because it made me laugh when I read it.

Kalig |

In the midst of typing my post, I got a call and need to go attend to my dad, who is very ill in reaction to the COVID vax, so I will be limited in my ability to post over the next couple days. Sorry Mia, I do intend to write a reply to you when I can.

Ivan the Blackshield |

Just noting for the purposes of the idea of "drawing on me," Kalig reached for her shield, not her weapon, and said she was prepared to defend people in the area and only otherwise used defensive language. She made absolutely no indication or suggestion she was going to attack unprompted. Ivan of course being a stranger may interpret things differently but others who know her might suggest otherwise (or say nothing, as they are wont.
Ivan’s main weapon is his shield. He is a Shield focused fighter and a QuickDraw artist. The Ulfen also have a tradition of “Shield Maidens” so all fun cultural misunderstandings. It’s all part of the role play. No players feelings were harmed in the writings of this scene. ;).
The second Pfizer vaccine hammered me. If you had carried the virus already and didn’t know it your body can have a strong reaction. They do say the sicker it makes you feel the stronger the defense going forward, but it kicked my butt for a few days. The Moderna vaccine was reported as making you feel crappy with both doses according to my friends.
Hang in there! If you have access to Emergen-C + Immunity in raspberry flavor it eases things for some people either with Covid or the reaction to the shot. I took it around 3-4pm.
Best wishes for quick recovery being sent!

DM Vayelan |

How are you adjusting to the new baby experience? Don’t worry as you level up as a parent the need for sleep diminishes and you will adapt.
I've managed to reach level 2 without a TPK, so things are going well so far.
I'm actually able to function somewhat well on a compromised sleep schedule - an unintended skill picked up during my college days.

Kalig |

FYI traveling for the next few days, for a much needed break. I plan to be able to get online but I may not as often as I'd normally like. Your patience is appreciated; please bot me if needed.

Mia Ravenlock |

I want to apologies profusely. The gameplay thread was not updating for me, and it seems I have missed quite a bit.

Mia Ravenlock |

I don't think spells with instantaneous duration can be dispelled.
So stone wall/shape stone can't be dispelled.

Kalig |

I went back and read through the thread a bit to refamiliarize myself with Haven's location. We are built on the Kasskari ruins, just east of the old giant gate, which serves as our main entrance. Note that the actual "ruins" we are built on, besides the gate itself, are mainly shallow sandstone foundations that people have built their houses on. My sense has always been they are not full basements (since if they are made of sandstone they would degrade if too deep), but Vayelan can correct me if I am wrong. There's an obelisk nearby, and about a mile (which is a 20 minute walk) from town, there is the old citadel where the plant-lich-thing lived and where the leshys still dwell. The citadel is the only actual semi-intact building I am aware of, and it is too overgrown and structurally, if not supernaturally, dangerous to make use of defensively. The locathah dwell on the shores past the citadel. We scouted the area very thoroughly when we first got here, and never found any underground passages or other major buildings.
The only place I don't think we explored much was the obelisk, but to my knowledge it's not like the Washington Monument or Bunker Hill where you can climb up inside, it's just solid stone. The GM can correct me if I am wrong.
The other ruins in the general region we have found were the Cyclopes ruins to the northwest where the undead were and that are fought over by centaurs, and the the Cyclopes Ruins in the marsh owned by the dragon. Those are indeed more than a days' travel away and occupied by dangerous potential foes.
Rather than post corrections IC which may feel like unnecessary bickering, I felt like it made more sense to try to get on the same page here, and then retcon whatever we need to have said understanding that our characters can physically perceive what is around them in ways we cannot.
I may see if I can update the area map a little and make a little bit of a town map.

Ivan the Blackshield |

Good idea. Here are some of the quotes I gleaned information out of.
Kalig's words are punctuated by the north wall, its tan stones scavenged from Kaskkari ruins and laid down by Fendir's small tribe. It stands eight feet tall and stretches nearly 200 feet, guarding the settlement against the wide open grasslands at your back. Although the hobgoblins and other settlers have yet to erect walls to the west or east, this initial bastion provides some sense of comfort.
The blocks taken from towers and walls further afield.
Viscount announces with a renewed smile.
"Harkan and his kin have taken residence in some shallow ruins up on Temple Hill..”
As the first of Desnus rolls around, with the new month bringing the height of spring, work begins in earnest on the bunkhouse, cookhouse, a new stall, and workshops for Mia and Seraphina. Aside from the hobgoblins living in tents and the orcs in the Temple Hill ruins, all the other Haven residents have more secure shelter in the form of stone-walled shacks, at least. The fishers have begun landing trout from the river below Haven's perch, the farmers have plowed their first fields, and the herders graze their animals - including your herd of oxen - in the near limitless pastures around Haven.
“Harkan's clan have found a sealed doorway in the ruins. They have not been able to open it, and Harkan has forbidden them, but that hasn't stopped some from trying. There is a mark on the door, a winged bird person. Lammasu or something."
