Serax the Acolyte |

Natalie stows the journal in her bag and makes careful notes of everything the charmed man says.
"I think we need to go to the graveyard... But it might not be fun..."
"That's a good idea but we should see the Sheriff first...he does owe all of us medals after all. Quiddling would you please gather the items that we took from Tsuto."

Natalie Nimblefoot |

"Ok... Back to the Sherriff to turn over this big guy and to get our medals. Then to the inn for more desserts... And then the scary graveyard? Oh! And I want to see adoring fan man! He seemed so nice! But I suppose that is less important to do given sad doom and gloom everywhere..."
As she rambles on about the things they have left to do, Natalie absent-mindedly begins poking the tied up prisoner in the face with her quill.

Serax the Acolyte |

"Please, be my guest." Tsuto replies, favoring you with an empty, idiot grin as you relieve him of his worldly possessions, "Am I going to get a medal too?"
"Tsuto I am sure that the Sheriff will have something for you too. Lets go see him now.". Serax steers the bound prisoner to the jail responding to any inquiries from concerned citizens with ”You will have to ask the Sheriff but suffice to say I, that is we, but mostly me have saved the town once again.” Not that it will matter to that horrible mayor.

Quiddling Cane |

Quiddling tries to point Natalie's quill away from Tsuto's face. "I don't think that is necessary. I am sure that the sheriff has a suitable cel... medal for Tsuto when we get there", he says then slips into other topics. "I've never really met and talked with a representativ of the law before. Sounds exciting, I can't wait to meet him. What is he like? Just and valorous no doubt, with the people's best interest always in mind. A champion of his own people. Oh, oh, oh! Is he a paladin? I always wanted to meet a paladin. Wonder who serves as his patron. I'm partial to Desna myself. Don't know if Desna has paladin's though. I've never seen one. Then again I haven't seen all of the devotees of The Great Dreamer. By the way, that's what brought me here. The Swallowtail festival. Have you enjoyed the festival?"

Serax looks askance at the seemingly never ending stream of words coming from the halfling. Oh my...we have another Natalie. I'm sure that they will be BFF's
"I have no idea what deity the sheriff worships. I can tell you that he thinks much too highly of himself just like most of the humans in this 'town'. He is not as bad as the mayor though. Waves of evil just pour off of her. Imagine telling ME if I wanted a reward to search goblin bodies. That was after I personally killed about 100 goblins and saved the town from burning down." You can almost hear the gnashing of teeth from Serax as he talks about the mayor.

mikeawmids |

You find Sheriff Hemlock at his desk in the Sandpoint garrison, poring over a bundle of reports penned by the men under his command. He glances up as you escort your prisoner in an arcs a bristly black eyebrow questioningly.
I'm assuming that you fill the Sheriff in on Tsuto's naughty antics at the Glassworks.
The town drunkard (you remember Govri, right?) is ejected from his usual cell and Tsuto is shepherded in. He accepts his imprisonment cheerfully enough, though you imagine he will change his tune when Serax's enchantment wears off (in about 18 hours).
"This news is troubling indeed, especially in light of recent developments" the sheriff mutters, brandishing a roll of parchment in the air, "Sandpoint hasn’t been the only place in the region that’s had goblin troubles. In short, there’s been an increase in goblin-related raids along the Lost Coast Road, particularly in the dale between Nettlewood and Mosswood. Only a day ago, a farm south of Mosswood was burnt to the ground by a group of goblins. Thankfully, another of our 'freelancers', an elven ranger called Shalelu was nearby, and while the farm couldn’t be saved, she did rescue the family and drive off the goblins; the family is staying at a nearby farm for now, but the goblin problem is obviously not going away."
"I plan on taking a few of my men south to Magnimar, to see about securing additional soldiers to station at Sandpoint for a few weeks, at least until the extent of the goblin threat can be determined. While I'm out of town, I've asked Shalelu to sniff around Shank’s Wood, Devil’s Platter, and other places where goblins live to see if she can discover anything else about what’s going on. What I would like you to do is maintain a public presence in Sandpoint. The locals seem to have taken to you and seeing you around town will do a lot for keeping worries down over the next few days.”

Serax the Acolyte |

Serax stares at Hemlock for several long seconds.
"I believe that we agreed that compensation would be forthcoming this time for our work." Serax glances at the Natalie. "And medals, don't forget the medals.”

mikeawmids |

"Yes, of course. Nobody expects you to work for free. Here." Rummaging through his desk, the sheriff produces a handful of scrips which he hastily signs before handing one to each of you, "Take these along to the town hall, they'll cash them for 20 gold per week. Standard rate for freelancers."
"Also, I had these knocked up for you to wear, a symbol of your new status. Wear them with pride! Do not disgrace them!"
He hangs a shiny medal around each of your necks - until he reaches Quiddling and freezes, staring at the halfling bard in some confusion.
"Who are you? I only made three medals."

Natalie Nimblefoot |

Natalie seems to practically be under the effect of a fly spell as she leaps around the room with joy holding the new medal.
"Yay! Yay! Yay!"
For the next several minutes like a child who had too much caffeine, the gnomes runs around while giving a very lengthy dissertation about metallurgy and the likely alloys being used for the medals noting several times the potential for puns based on metal vs medal (no one laughs).
And then she suddenly stops,
"Wait. There is another elf? And she is fighting off goblins alone? Hey Serax, does that mean she is better at elfing than you are? Maybe we should talk to her about joining."

Serax the Acolyte |

Serax watches with bemusement as the gnome leaps around the room. I sometimes wish I could take enjoyment from such simple things.
After tuning out the vast majority of Natalie's conversation, her last comment breaks through his barrier of indifference. "Better Elfing than me? I seriously doubt that this ranger is better than me. Maybe one day you will have an opportunity to see for yourself but as for today we are supposed to maintain a presence in Sandpoint. I think a trip to the graveyard may be in order. Agreed?"

Quiddling Cane |

Quiddling smiles at the man towering over him. "Hi, I'm Quiddling Cane. At your service", he says and bows deeply. Then he shakes the sheriff's hand and continues to talks. "A medal is not necessary. It was Thorgrund, Serax and Natalie that captured Tsuto and slayed the goblins. I happened upon the scene by pure happenstance. I was looking for the glass works to talk with mr Lonjiku Kaijitsu, to talk about a buissness proposal. I'm father is a merchant in Absalom you see. I'm not sure if it was me that took on the task of delivering the message as a chance to travel to your facinating landscape or if my father who saw fit to send me in this direct to strke up the business deal with mister Kaijistu. Probably abit of both. I haven't seen much of your village yet, as I arrived just this morning. Do you have any suggestions of things I must see? I noticed that you have a very facinating ruin on the north west edge of your village. Can you tell me more about it?" Quiddling contines to babble until he is stopped.

Serax the Acolyte |

"Quiddling, how about starting your tour in the graveyard with us? You could be a full member of the SoS with all of the benefits entailed." Or you can be bait if we need it.

Quiddling Cane |

Quiddling spins around on the spot. "That sounds like an excellent idea! Combine business with a tour of the town. The graveyard is abit of a sombre start, but I'm guessing that it is adjacent to the new temple? I heard that the opening ceremony was supposed to take place yesterday. Do you think we can go inside?"

mikeawmids |

"You refer to the Old Light?" the sheriff asks when he is finally able to dam your torrent of questions with a few answers of his own. "The original height of the tower is unknown, but those who have studied the ancient architecture of the crumbling remains estimate it might have stood more than 700 feet tall. Today, less than a quarter of that remains. The Old Light rises from sea level and is built into the face of a 120-foot-tall cliff, the tower extending another 50 feet above that level to culminate in ragged ruins. The remaining shell is yet another reminder that neither the Chelaxians nor the Varisians are the first settlers of this land, yet apart from a few badly weathered carvings signifying that the peak of this tower once held a brilliant light, no insight to the tower’s true purpose remains."
He takes a deep breath before continuing to speak.
"Perhaps you could approach Ameiko Kaijitsu with your business proposal. With both of her parents dead and her older brother imprisoned for murder and fraternizing with goblins, she stands to inherit her families business interests both here in Sandpoint and off in the city of Magnimar. You can find her at the Rusty Dragon Inn, where your friends here are staying, I believe, though I would ask that you wait a few days before you approach her. The death of her father and the treachery of her brother will hit her hard, I fear."
"Of course, you may explore the new cathedral. Be aware that the families displaced by goblin raids aagainst the town and outlying farmsteads have been accommodated there until alternative arrangements can be made. I am certain that Father Zantus would be more than happy to show you around, if you were to ask him."

Natalie Nimblefoot |

"Yay! New friend! Lets go to the cathedral then the graveyard! Adventure!"
Natalie suddenly stops and eyes the halfling:
"Leave the hat behind... A cathedral is. No place for such evil..."
She then somehow manages to begin taking copious amounts of notes on parchment while skipping in a circle around the others as they talk.

Serax the Acolyte |

Natalie suddenly stops and eyes the halfling:
"Leave the hat behind... A cathedral is. No place for such evil...".
"You heard her Quiddling, lose the hat before we head to the cathedral." He gives the halfling a hard stare.
Once the group reaches the cathedral, Serax will seek out Father Zantus and explain what happened at the glassworks and the information about the grave robbery that was obtained from Tsuto. He asks the priest to provide him the exact location of the tomb of his predecessor.

mikeawmids |

You find Father Zantus tending to the injured and displaced, but he takes a break from his good work to lead you through the cemetery to the tomb of his predecessor, Father Tobyn. As you wind between the well tended gravestones, he tells you a little about the man who cared for Sandpoint's spiritual needs before he himself took the position.
"This news is troubling indeed, to think that a man could be driven to betray his family - even murder his own father - by lust for a woman who has already given herself willingly into the hateful embrace of a demon."
"The town's old church burned down 5 years ago, we have been rebuilding since then and the glorious new cathedral that you see behind us has only recently been finished and consecrated to the worship of Desna. My predecessor, Father Tobyn was tragically killed in that fire, he did not escape from the building before the burning wreckage collapsed in on itself. Many believe he died trying to save his teenage daughter from the flames, but neither of them made it out. All that was ever found were the blackened bones, put we put them to rest in the crypt with those holy men that served Sandpoint before him, where no doubt my own bones will rest also, in the fullness of time. Ah, here we are...."
You have arrived at the entrance to a simple tomb, moss and ivy crawl over the white, stone walls and the statue of an angel with the wings of a butterfly stares down at you benevolently.
"But wait, this is not right..." Father Zantus pauses, looking askance at the open gate, "This gate should not have been left open like this... only I and the caretaker have keys, I have not been here for months and I know he would never be so careless as to leave this unlocked...."

Serax the Acolyte |

"Father, does the name Nualia seem familiar to you? Do you have any idea of what kind of ritual the remains of the old priest could be used for in conjunction with the worship of Lamashtu?"
Once the priest finishes speaking Serax looks at his companions. "We better investigate the tomb. Quiddling give the ring to...the dwarf..." Serax almost chokes on the words but comforts himself with a mental image of the dwarf standing as an unbreakable barrier protecting himself. GM please modify Thorgrund DR.
"Thorgrund please lead the way."

mikeawmids |

Ah, yes. Using the absent player as a meat shield, such admirable and heroic conduct!
The iron gate squeals in protest as Thorgrund forces it wide enough to admit his densely muscled bulk into the cool, shadowy interior of the tomb. Something brittle crunches loudly beneath his hobnailed boots. As his dwarven eyes become accustomed to the darkness, he sees that someone has completely trashed the place, the bones of Sandpoint's clergy have been carelessly scattered across the floor of the crypt. Obscene goblin graffiti has been scarwled across the walls and it looks as though at least one of the thieving little bastards voided its bowels.
"Nualia...?" Father Zantus repeats the name absently, as he peers around you, trying to see what is going on within the tomb, The name is familiar, but... wait!"
He steps around you and stabs is finger at the stone tablet, commemorating the souls enshrined within the desecrated crypt, "Look here! Nualia Tobyn! That was the name of Father Tobyn's daughter, the one who perished in the fire! What a coincidence that you ask such a thing!"

Serax the Acolyte |

Serax enter the tomb and looks around to see if he can spot anything, first with regular abilities: Logic (79): 1d100 ⇒ 1;
then with magical abilities Wizard Eye (80): 1d100 ⇒ 61.
Turning to Natalie, "Would you please show Father Zantus the drawings of Nualia to see if he recognizes them."

Quiddling Cane |

"Oh, I don't think that the good father needs to see that", Quiddling quickly interjects blushing heavily. He reaches for the journal. "If you would just allow me, it is very graphic." The halfling quickly thumbs through the book to one of the less explicit drawings, cowers the body by folding the page and then showing father Zantus Nualia's face. "The rest are similar to this one, with abit more claws, wings and horns."

mikeawmids |

Although the old priest only catches a glimpse of Tsuto's journal before Quiddling censors the most lurid illustrations, his face takes on an ashen pallor and he looks a trifle ill.
"In the name of..." he murmurs softly, before collecting his thoughts, "No, I never knew the girl. I did not even come to Sandpoint until after she and her father had both died. Perhaps you might have better luck asking some of the people who have lived here for longer than I have. Vin Vinder perhaps, the man who runs the general store - Nualia would be a little older than his two daughters now, had she only lived."
Serax enter the tomb and looks around to see if he can spot anything, first with regular abilities: Logic (79): 1d100 ⇒ 1;
then with magical abilities Wizard Eye (80): 1d100 ⇒ 61.
Tracks in the disturbed dust indicate that the tomb was violated by a one human and several smaller creatures, probably goblins. You find a few thorny nettles that the graverobbers must have traipsed in when they forced entry into the crypt to steal Father Tobyn's skeleton. Their is a lingering scent in the still air - barely noticeable over the stonger, more acrid stench of goblin piss - but you recognise it as the aftershave that Tsuto was wearing when you apprehended him outside the glassworks.
Your wizard eye does not reveal anything supernatural.

Serax the Acolyte |

"Should we go visit the general store? Natalie, they probably have candy and Quiddling it's part of the best of Sandpoint tour. Oh, and Thorgrund they have...oh nevermind, just come with us please."

Quiddling Cane |

”That sounds like a smashing idea!” Quiddling says enthusiastically. On the way there he looks through the journal once more. ”You know, these are pretty graphical. Perhaps I should draw a copy of her face, incase we’re going to include anyone else in this endeavour. There is no reason to confront the wholesome folk of Sandpoint with this explicit nudity.”

Thorgrund Bronnsson |

Thorgrund, giving in to his curiosity, takes a quick look at the drawings. He just as quickly looks away, blushing slightly.
"So...let me get this straight...the half-breed is pining for some wench who died in a fire years ago? And he draws pictures of her? Must be the elf half...oooo...sorry Serax..." He smiles a weak smile at his companion, giving a wink as well.

mikeawmids |

When you do decide to go to the general store....
Owned and operated by Ven Vinder and his family, Sandpoint’s oldest and best-stocked general store has a little bit of everything—farm equipment, weapons, tack, tools, furniture, food, and even homemade pies by Ven’s wife Solsta. When you arrive, Ven's youngest daughter Shayliss is minding the store. You immediately recognize her as the young woman that you rescued from the burning building on the day of the goblin raid. She obviously recognizes you also, favoring Serax with a flirtatious smile as she leans forward over the counter top, revealing an altogether scandalous amount of cleavage.
"Ah, I was wondering when I'd be seeing you again, my brave hero," she says playfully, "I never got the chance to thank you properly for saving me from those horrible little monsters. If there's anything that I can ever do to you - oh, I'm sorry, for you, I meant to say...."

Serax the Acolyte |

"So...let me get this straight...the half-breed is pining for some wench who died in a fire years ago? And he draws pictures of her? Must be the elf half...oooo...sorry Serax..." He smiles a weak smile at his companion, giving a wink as well.
"I seriously doubt it would be the Elf half," Serax says in a haughty tone. "Speaking of the half-elf, he should still be under the effect of my charm spell if any of you have thought of any additional questions."
In response to the flirtatious salesgirl, Serax ignores her sad attempt for attention. "Quiddling please show her the drawing...Girl is this the Nualia that once you knew?"

mikeawmids |

Shayliss pouts prettily at your initial rejection of her advances, but is perhaps too much of an airhead to be particularly offended.
"You mean the old priest's daughter? The girl who died when the church burnt down? I never knew her well, though I saw her every weekend when my parents took my sister and I to temple." The buxom wench paws through the sheath of sketches, lines of deep concentration creasing her milky white skin, "I don't know, she did die a long time ago, so these pictures can't be of her anyway, this woman looks as old as I am."
Slowly, her eyes are drawn back to Serax, "Why are so so interested in some dead girl anyway? Wouldn't you rather spend your time with a live woman?"

Serax the Acolyte |

"Because this supposed 'dead' girl is the force behind the attacks on this place. Because if we do not figure out what is happening she is planning on sacrificing each and every one of you to a evil god. Now my friends and I will likely be able to protect ourselves long enough to get away safely. You on the other hand," Serax gives her an appraising stare taking in her full figure, "will make quite a nice feast for some hungry goblins." Serax's stare turns cold, "Unless you want to end up as goblin stew, you better tell us what you know about Nualia and who else in the soon to be destroyed town might have information that we should know."

mikeawmids |

"What is going on here?" Ven Vinder asks gruffly as he emerges from a trapdoor behind the counter and glares at you all, "Shayliss, are these people bothering you?"
The storekeeper's daughter excuses herself and leaves you to deal with her father, casting one last, venomous look Serax's way before vanishing into the back of the store. As he bags up three pies for Natalie, Ven takes a look at the picture of Tsuto's muse and offers the opinion that the woman in the journal bears a passing resemblance to the presumed dead daughter of the late Father Tobyn. Other than identifying her portrait, the storekeeper cannot offer any new information. To his knowledge, everyone in Sandpoint believes Nualia to be dead - why would she have disappeared on the same night of her father's death?

Serax the Acolyte |

Serax is deeply troubled by the turn of events. In his mind he goes over the facts in front of him...Goblins have twice infiltrated Sandpoint. Goblins are attacking farms outside of town. A human female that bears the name of and a resemblance to the daughter of the old priest (who was supposed to have died in a fire years ago) has somehow seized command of the goblins. She plans on offering the inhabitants of the town up to her god as part of some ritual. She likely has another plan already in motion. And the good sheriff abandons the town to go 'get help.' How convenient for him and he asks us to stay in town to keep up the morale of the townspeople.
Once the group arrives back at the inn, Serax pulls them aside and relates his thoughts on the situation. "We need a plan but I am at a loss to think of one."

Quiddling Cane |

”Oh, the plot thickens!” Quiddling says with excitement. This is far more than he could have hoped for when leaving Absalom. This was a real adventure! With real adventures! Oh, the stories that would be gathered. He could hardly wait! Unfortunately wait was exactly what he had to do. ”I would like to go and explore the Thisletop goblin’s lair, I bet that there’s lots to be learned there! But the good sheriff wanted you to maintain a presence here at the moment as he gathers reinforcements from Magnimar, so that will have to wait. Perhaps the ranger the sheriff spoke of can go exploring? ”
By the way, Quiddling is going to keep Tsuto’s short bow if that’s OK with everyone.
Quiddling approaches the counter and tosses Tsuto’s short bow on it. ”My good man, I will require 20 of your finest arrows fit to fire from this weapon.”

Natalie Nimblefoot |

Entering the Rusty Dragon, Natalie is handed a massive bouquet of flowers by the barmaid.
Barely understandable through the mouthful of pie, the gnome practically glows with excitement:
"There are so many!!! But why are they cut out from the ground? That can't be good for them..."
She quickly finds the note and reads its contents to the others:
"Hey! It's that Lord Foxglove guy. He said a bunch of nice things and wants me to go to some opera thingy tonight. Let's all go!"

mikeawmids |

Quiddling approaches the counter and tosses Tsuto’s short bow on it. ”My good man, I will require 20 of your finest arrows fit to fire from this weapon.”
The shopkeeper sells you the arrows, I don't have the book with me, so I'll send you a PM later, re: the price.
This evening's performance of 'The Harpy's Curse' starts an hour before sunset at the Sandpoint Theater. Is there anything else you wanted to do before then?

Serax the Acolyte |

This evening's performance of 'The Harpy's Curse' starts an hour before sunset at the Sandpoint Theater. Is there anything else you wanted to do before then?
Not from me.

Thorgrund Bronnsson |

Once the group arrives back at the inn, Serax pulls them aside and relates his thoughts on the situation. "We need a plan but I am at a loss to think of one."
Thorgrund orders two ales, downing one quickly, then sulks over the other. Pursing his lips as if he is thinking deeply, he ponders for several moments, then his right eyebrow rises slightly.
"Well, I say we hit this goblin fort the half-breed told us about, to find this Nualia-whats-'er-name. Although assaulting a goblin lair with the gnome in tow could prove to be a most excellent challenge, eh, Gnat...Har! I think that's what I'll call you from now on, lass!!

Serax the Acolyte |

"My vote is that we attend the show tonight that the fop has invited us to and then tomorrow try to find the Elf Ranger outside of town to learn more about the goblins and their fort. Maybe we can even convince her to accompany us."

Thorgrund Bronnsson |

"My vote is that we attend the show tonight that the fop has invited us to and then tomorrow try to find the Elf Ranger outside of town to learn more about the goblins and their fort. Maybe we can even convince her to accompany us."
"There'll be singing, won't there?" Thorgrund asks with a pained look on his face. "I hate singing...never liked it...even the dirges I heard growing up..."
"But that is a good idea about heading out in the morning...and what's one more elf, eh Serax?" Thorgrund winks at him, and gives Seraxa sharp nudge.

mikeawmids |

Brand-new cathedrals and ancient ruins aren’t the only incongruities Sandpoint boasts. This massive playhouse, financed entirely by its larger than-life owner, Cyrdak Drokkus, features one of the most impressive theaters on this side of Varisia — it certainly competes with the playhouses of Magnimar, a fact that Cyrdak takes great pride in, since he was forced to flee that city for mysterious reasons he’s eager to hint at but reticent to expound upon. The Sandpoint Theater often showcases local talent, but it’s the three weekend shows that locals generally look forward to. Cyrdak uses his contacts in Magnimar to great extent, ensuring that the most exciting new productions in the big city are available here as well. Cyrdak enjoys flirting with all of Sandpoint’s young women.
The theater is pretty busy when you arrive one hour before sunset. A lot of people that travelled to Sandpoint for the Swallowtail Festival have stuck around and bought tickets for tonight's show, 'The Harpy's Curse', starring a famous diva called Allishanda. Lord Aldern Foxglove is waiting for Natalie outside the crowded playhouse, his smile falters somewhat when he sees the rest of the party trundling along behind his date. Did you bring the clockwork gnome also?
"Natalie, how delightful to see you again, you look beautiful this evening! So glad that you were able to accept my invitation! Did you like the flowers, I hope so. Just a small token of my appreciation for everything you've done for me and the town."
Almost reluctantly - like someone whose attention is drawn back to the scene of a high speed carriage accident, his gaze slides back over to the rest of you and he grimaces.
"And you have bought your friends with you, how... lovely. I would never have guessed such heroic figures would be interested in the arts...."

Serax the Acolyte |

"Hello Foxglove. How very gracious of you to invite us all to the show. It should be amusing to see what passes for 'art' in this place." Serax tries to slightly conceal his profound contempt for the young noble. "Flee from any goblins since we last saw you?" I guess not doing a very good job of hiding his contempt.
Serax looks around and notices the halfling following him. "Oh yes, Foxglove this is Quiddling. He's a provisional member of the SoS. He came very close to throwing his sword into a goblin. Unfortunately his aim was a bit off but he did manage to wound a wall."
