Natalie stares wide eyed with fear at the crime scene and blood without moving.
"I don't think I like this place anymore... We should get our medals and go to a different town..."
But the scatter-brained gnome is soon snapped back to something close to her usual state when the dwarf talks about his axe:
"Do axes drink? I have extra water, or I could try to make something that is adjusted for the nutritional needs of your weaponry... But um... I don't know what that would entail..."
Idioms and Natalie don't mix...

Quiddling Cane |

Natalie stares wide eyed with fear at the crime scene and blood without moving.
"I don't think I like this place anymore... We should get out medals and go to a different town..."
"You can't leave now!", Quiddling insists. "We need to find out where the goblins came from. And where they went." The halfling quickly joins up behind Thorgrund and delves deeper into the glass works. "Goblins.. Here, in town. I've read that they sometimes live in sewers, perhaps that where these came from. Does Sandpoint have sewers?"

Serax the Acolyte |

Natalie stares wide eyed with fear at the crime scene and blood without moving.
"I don't think I like this place anymore... We should get our medals and go to a different town..."
"Don't worry Natalie, we will set things right. After all we are not known as the Saviours of Sandpoint for nothing." Serax reaches out and awkwardly pats the gnome on her shoulder. I cannot believe that I am friendly with a gnome, a dwarf and maybe a halfling. Is it possible that I was injured and my brain is addled?
"Natalie can you build something that will allow us to tell what kind of creatures are in front of us?"

mikeawmids |

@ Thorgrund & Quiddling: Following the blood, along the length of a long passageway, you enter what must easily be the largest room in the building, the glassworking room. A long furnace burns along the southeast wall of this equally long room, rumbling so loudly you can barely hear yourself think. The main furnace burns at the northeast end, a large chamber that utilizes alchemically treated wood that burns with a hot blue light. As the furnace’s stone pipes run to the southwest, they reach smaller and progressively cooler furnaces used to keep glassworking projects at the proper temperature; glass shatters if it’s allowed to cool too quickly. Marble tables sit throughout the chamber, used to work raw glass into usable shapes, with nearby wooden tables cluttered with various tools of the trade.
The bodies of the eight murdered staffers lie in various stages of dismemberment; the goblins have been burning legs and arms in the furnace with glee, and pouring melted glass on the remains. The body of an elderly man has been propped up in a chair in the central alcove and encased in thick runny sheets of hardened glass. The expression frozen on his wrinkly face is a combination of surprise and pain. A younger man stands beside this gristly sculpture, oblivious to the depravations of the goblins, he seems focussed on taunting the old dead guy trapped within the glass.
Thorgrund only, please make a LOG roll. Natalie & Serax can also make this roll when they reach this area.

Natalie Nimblefoot |

Rather shaken, She seems unable to focus on Serax's request to build something. "But... Maybe there isn't time.. We have to stop whoever is doing this!" the small gnome said with squeaky anxiety and urgency.
Natalie readied her crossbow, whistled for Albinus who flew through the door to meet them, and then rushed after the dwarf and halfling.
When she arrives:

Quiddling is almost unable to believe his eyes. His stomach however has no trouble and immedietly starts to threaten revolt. This was not what he expected when followed the odd bunch into the glass works. Even after seeing the pools of blood could he have dreamed up this scenario. The nauseous halfling does nothing but stand in the doorway with his mouth slightly ajar.

Serax the Acolyte |

Serax brings up the rear and almost trips over the halfling. He quickly takes in the situation.

mikeawmids |

The goblins immediately cease their defilement of the bodies and cover their great, pointy ears as Serax's magically amplified command resonates through the glassworking room. As the young man turns to survey this sudden intrusion, you see that he is a handsome half-elf, tall and well muscled in the manner of an acrobat. He begins yelling instructions to his goblin minions while readying a composite shortbow. While his exact words are lost in the roar of the furnaces, the goblins seem to get the gist and surge towards you with violent intent. Some are brandishing dogslicers, others have taken up whatever was to hand, at least one is wielding tongs dripping with molten glass!

Albinus hits the goblin like a feathered comet, bearing the wretched creature to the ground and rending the flesh of its (already pretty hideous) face. (The goblin's BP is reduced to zero, one down - seven to go).
Six of the remaining goblins rush forward, brandishing their weapons enthusiastically, the last one hangs back, mooning you from one of the long worktables arranged throughout the room.
One salivating goblin leaps for Albinus with a hungry expression plastered across its face.

But the confined space and prolonged combat seemed to be hindering his hunting ability.

mikeawmids |

@ Serax: As far as I can tell, you still have to make a Spellcasting roll to cast Heal, so if you have already taken any other actions, you are going to be rolling at a penalty.
As Quiddling's rapier is sent spinning from his grip, the final goblin cries out in triumph as he prepares to sink his dogslicer into the halfling's chest - suddenly, a crossbow bolt sprouts out of his forehead. With a somewhat quizzical expression, the creature reaches up and give it an experimental tug, before collapsing into a twitching heap at the little bard's feet.

Meanwhile, Thorgrund pursues the half-elf down a flight of steps into an underground storage area beneath the glassworks. Crates and barrels are stacked haphazardly throughout the area, containing sand and other raw materials. Two wheelbarrows sit against the wall. Just east of the stairs, a brick wall has been dismantled to reveal an older passageway leading south. It is down this recently uncovered tunnel that the chase leads.

I am posting from work and don't have the character block to hand, I'm just going to assume he failed his roll to resist Charm.
The half-elf recovers his wits, only to have them shanghaied by Serax's sorcery.
"Who are you?"
My name is Tsuto Kaijitsu."
"Why are you here?"
I came here to kill my father before his conscience pressed him to reveal what he knows of our plans to the Sheriff."
"Why are you helping the goblins?"
"I am not helping them, they are helping me."
"Are there any prisoners in the glassworks?"
"Probably not. My only concern was my father, the goblins were free to do with the workers as they wished and I doubt they exhibited much mercy or compassion."
"Who was the old man encased in glass upstairs and why were you yelling at him?""
"That was my father, Lonjiku Kaititsu. I was expressing my pleasure that he is dead by my hand, encased within the glass that he spent so much pleasure in crafting."
Natalie intently studies the book:
[dice=Log(71)]1d100
[dice=Log(71)]1d100+20It took her a bit longer than typical, but she has a decent idea of what the book is about.
The journal contains several overhead sketches of Sandpoint, with annotations detailing the best ways in/out of the town during the goblin raid of several days ago. Evidently the little buggers had help planning their attack. Studying these notes, you establish that the raid was no more than a ruse to draw the town's militia away from the old graveyard behind the new cathedral. At the back of the book, you find several erotic sketches of a nubile young woman with platinum blonde hair, as you flick through the pages, her appearance grows increasingly monstrous, as the artist adds wings, horns and scary demon claws to her figure.

Serax the Acolyte |

"Thank you Tsuto. You are doing very well. I have a few more questions for you.
"What are your plans that you were afraid would be revealed to the Sheriff?
Who is the pretty girl drawn in your sketchbook? Why does her appearance change? What is her role in the attack on the town?
Why are the goblins helping you?
Is your sister your ally in your plan?
Why did you want free access to the graveyard? What was in it that you wanted? What did you do with what you took?"

Quiddling Cane |

At the fight
Quiddling stands paralyzed and stares at the goblin at it falls before his feet. He notices Natalie with her crossbow and gives her a nervous smile and bows. ”Thank you kindly, my lady” he says then picks up the goblin’s dog slicer and runs after Thorgund, taking a detour around the bodies. Later, once the chase is finished, he returns to claim his rapier.
After the fight
Curious to the contents of the journal, Quiddling stands behind Natalie reading over the gnomes shoulder. His cheeks starts to blush considerably at the erotic drawings as well as being repulsed of the demonic transformation.
The young halfling is not much use during the interrigation. His participation mostly consists of “Ah”:s and surprised gasps after each chocking answer.

Charm usually lasts 2d10 ⇒ (10, 10) = 20 hours.
"Thank you Tsuto. You are doing very well. I have a few more questions for you.
The half-elf continues to stare ahead, eyes unblinking, his voice a dull, inflectionless drone as he continues to answer your parade of questions.
"What are your plans that you were afraid would be revealed to the Sheriff?
"I blackmailed my father into bribing the men on watch on the North Gate the day of the festival. I knew of his hand in the murder of his wife - my mother - and threatened to go to the Sheriff myself if he did not do as I bid. Of course, I could not allow him to live, knowing what he knew."
Who is the pretty girl drawn in your sketchbook? Why does her appearance change? What is her role in the attack on the town?
"That is my mistress Nualia. She has forged a pact with the goddess Lamashtu, to gain infernal powers in exchange for the souls of your beloved townfolk."
"Why are the goblins helping you?"
"My mistress Nualia has enthralled their chieftain and now the goblins serve her purpose, though they scarcely needed much encouragement to attack Sandpoint."
"Is your sister your ally in your plan?"
Ameiko knew nothing of this. I doubt she even knows I have returned to the area. I had thought to offer her a chance at salvation, give her an opportunity to forsake these bumpkins and join us, but I do not truly believe she would accept such an offer."
"Why did you want free access to the graveyard? What was in it that you wanted? What did you do with what you took?"
"Nualia required the bones of the old town priest for her ritual. That is all that I was told."

Serax the Acolyte |

"Very good Tsuto. I think we are almost done and then we can take you somewhere to rest. First of all, where can we find Nualia? Secondly, besides the goblins does she have any more allies?"
Assuming that no other members of the SoS have questions for Tsuto, we will take him to the Sheriff and let him know what was learned from visiting the glassworks and from questioning Tsuto.

mikeawmids |

"First of all, where can we find Nualia? Secondly, besides the goblins does she have any more allies?"
"Nualia has excavated an ancient ruin beneath the ramshackle goblin fortress they name Thistletop. It is built on a large, skull shaped island off the coast to the north of Sandpoint, beyond the Nettle River. Other than the goblins, she has a small group of close advisers who accompany her. I myself am among their number, she also retains the services of a human bodyguard, a human academic and a hulking bugbear savage."
