[PFS] #5–08: The Confirmation (Inactive)

Game Master JDLPF

Almost all Pathfinders undergo extensive training for three or more years to learn the tricks of the trade, and their last test before graduating from the ranks of the initiates to the status of a full Pathfinder agent is the Confirmation, a special research project that involves considerable fieldwork and is designed to simulate the initiates' future work as a Pathfinder. Even the noteworthy field commissioned agents sometimes participate in such trials as a way to familiarize themselves with the Pathfinder Society’s rules and expectations. Although Confirmation is typically an individual affair, the society recently discovered a site on the Isle of Kortos that would be perfect for initiates but perhaps too dangerous to handle alone. Successfully uncovering this site’s secrets will not only contribute to the society’s body of knowledge but shape the exciting careers ahead for each of the prospective agents.

Hehe, 9 hp for the win!!

Dark Archive

I don't know if it's supposed to let me follow it, but the MAP link tells me access is forbidden.

Same here. "403 Error"

Fixing that now. Apologies!

Also, I'll roll Perception and Initiative for the group from now, per suggestion.

I am unsure exactly how he did it, but the GM for my previous PbP PFS Game had a set up that allowed his players to move their own tokens, create markers indicating movement paths, etc. It was very convenient. I think he was using a shared Google Document.
I will try to figure out how he did it in the morning, and get back to you if I am successful.

Also, am I correct in assuming the light grey 10 ft. diameter circle is the "swarm".

Correct, the swarm is currently occupying squares L-M, 12-13. If you can link me a template for the shared Google Doc I'll happily adapt it.

Dark Archive

If the Swarm's Stealth roll was 22, shouldn't Vaetta's Perception roll of 22 also spot it?

+1 DC per 10 ft. of distance to enemy.

The rules for Stealth also say I have to "Beat" the enemy's Stealth Roll, not simply "Equal or Exceed" it. Although it does suck to roll a natural twenty and still fail a check. :P

I'll PM my last GM and see if he can explain how he did it. It was downright handy, he could mark squares affected by a spell (such as Burning Hands), I could move my own token during my turn, or mark where I dropped my backpack. It also had a Notes section that could be used like an Instant Messenger if you were both looking at the document (because it automatically saved changes as you made them).

I've had GMs use a similar thing, but you are unable to manipulate your token if you are using your phone. Since my phone is my primary access to the internet I was forced to give as detailed a description of my moves as possible and either the GM or another player had to move my token for me.

Try this link: MAP

Is this similar to what your last GM used?

That is indeed pretty similar, the general interface is the same, so it must have been a Google Doc. The only difference was there was a comments bar at the bottem, and a side bar you could select "slides" from, so he may have used a Presentation instead of a Drawing as the basis for his.

Alright, since I've had one request, I'll swap to the interactive map from next round unless there's any objections or anyone reports access issues.

I also agree on the Perception point. It's quite impressive to get 2 natural 20 results in a row! Too bad they aren't criticals.

Just waiting for Nagagorjo's actions for the Surprise Round before we advance.

Just as I was saying before, it is not phone friendly so I'll have to declare my moves for someone else to move for me.

Dark Archive

If your BAB is +1 or higher, you can draw a weapon as part of your movement rather than two separate actions. I don't recall if Brawlers are full BAB or not. If so, you should be able to.

Brawlers can draw a weapon as part of movement since they have full BAB.

Moving on to Round 1!

Nagagorjo, you have taken 1 point of damage as the swarm attacked you, and you also will suffer 1d3 bleed damage at the start of your turn unless you receive a DC 15 Heal check or any magical healing before your turn on initiative.

You also have malaria. Have fun with that.

Also a quick note that the squares with green bushes count as light undergrowth, meaning they're difficult terrain and provide concealment.

Sorry guys, end of the semester stuff, I'll try to post again tomorrow.

One note, tho: Google Slides can be manipulated on your cell phone. It's my preferred map interface for that reason.

Got it, next map will be done with a slideshow file.

Okay, moved over to a slideshow file map using the same layout. Let me know if anyone has access issues.

Too-tuk will need to spend a move action on his turn to pick up the wand that's been thrown to him if he wishes to use it.

If Pelotita throws her alkali flask, it will deal an extra 50% damage on a hit. Don't forget the swarm is currently completely inside concealment, meaning you have a 20% miss chance with attack rolls.

I plan on moving to the middle of the group on my turn and hopefully draw the swarm with me, I don't know if you all want to hold your actions till I do so or act and I'll wait for my turn in the initiative. Let me know and I'll follow suit.

Dark Archive

Are you planning to move to O18?

I was thinking more around Q19 so I don't stop with Pelotita in the swarm, and that puts me right in the middle for everyone to attack. Since the swarm is focused on me and everyone else is hiding they should just stick to me and bypass the others.

Alright, another action packed round!

Regarding Deadeye's Arrow spell, the text of the spell specifies it functions as an arrow that targets touch and deals electricity damage. I'm ruling this comes under the heading of swarm rules that state "A swarm is immune to any spell or effect that targets a specific number of creatures (including single-target spells such as disintegrate)".

Since Pelotita didn't specify the square her ranged attack was targeting, I went ahead and assumed it would be the closest to her square. Specifying which square of the enemy's area you target with a splash weapon is important for purposes of misses! Luckily her weapon missed any allies or herself, still landing a point of damage on the swarm. Pelotita, you start this round with a flask of alchemist's fire in hand and ready to throw, care of Janira.

I wonder if we'll have any crispy critters this next round...

Dark Archive

Template places the AoE safely in the swarm without burning PCs. Damage per Janira's wand +50%. Reflex save for half, I believe, with a DC per Janira's wand. -1 charge.

EDIT: It wasn't necessary this round, but don't forget that Pelotita has a +1 to all saves from Resistance.

I feared that might be the case. I figured I should at least try since it was a spell effect rather than a weapon. I knew I should have bought Acid Flasks to tide me over until I could afford some Caltrop Beads.

I wish there were a greater verity of elemental damage spells. Burning Hands is basically the only 1st level Elemental AoE Magi can take; Which is fine for Elemental Bloocline Sorcerers, but everybody else gets the shaft if they want a thematic spell list in PFS.

And we're out of combat!

Pelotita doesn't have anyone before her to provide healing, so another 3 points of bleed damage occurs at the start of her turn. If she wishes to cast a spell she's no longer under the distraction of the swarm, but bleed counts as a source of continuous damage, meaning she'd need a concentration check to cast any spells equal to DC 10 + 1/2 damage of the last effect, in this case DC 11. Channel Energy as a (Su) ability is unaffected by this requirement.

So...I have malaria. What does this do to me and how can I stop it?

Dark Archive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In 1-3 days, you'll start making DC11 Fort saves to avoid Str and Con damage. It takes 2 consecutive saves to cure yourself. Or Remove Disease.

I have company arriving late this evening that will demand much of my attention for the next several days. So most likely I will be limited to no more than one post a day over the weekend, instead of the four or five I can normally manage.

Many apologies for my delay in advancing the story. My weekend turned unexpectedly busy and restricted my online access. I'll endeavour to update more frequently now that the weekend has passed.

Dark Archive

How would Too-tuk's ability to glide/feather fall affect the spike part of the trap if he were to intentionally jump in?

With a DC 15 Fly check to glide, you would avoid any falling damage from the trap.

There's no specific interaction rules, so I'd allow a second DC 15 Fly check to maneuver yourself whilst gliding to avoid the spikes, similar to the check to move yourself 5 ft. whilst gliding.

If you fail the second check but not the first you'd avoid the damage from the fall but still potentially suffer damage from the spikes. Failing the first check means you fall into the pit and suffer its full effects.

Dark Archive

The best chances look like Nagagorjo jumping followed by Vaetta climbing and the Too-tuk jumping.

Note that the floor of these caves is damp, increasing the DC of all Acrobatics checks by 2, including long jump. Attempting to leap across the pit will require a DC 12 Acrobatics check.

I'm sorry about the lack of posting this weekend. I'm really not sure what happened all of a sudden the weekend was over and I hadn't been on the site, but I'm back now and let's see about this Acrobatics check.

Perhaps... I was waiting for the others to get some posts in because otherwise with my preponderance of free time I could easily dominate the game's screen time. I'll post in a little while.

Please note that I won't play your characters for you. Unless a player says they're doing something, I'm not going to assume they're acting.

I've sent a message to Pelotita to check if they are able to continue, as I've had no activity in this game from them for over a week.

Per the PFS rules for short table play, should Pelotita be unable to continue, I'll DM the fourth slot.

Dark Archive

None of his aliases have made a post since 5/6. Nafreet is typically a reliable person with an active online presence, so I'm a little worried for him.

Hey, all. I smashed my phone last week and had to wait until payday today to replace it. Sorry for the absence. I've been pretty much unable to access anything online since.

Looks like 48 new posts since so I'll try to read through them now!

BTW I had 4 PMs waiting for me from people asking if I was alright IRL. Thank you all so much!
