GM Ascension |
Separate attacks and damage for each
As Tomlin races towards the front Ian smashes out the window and half the shutters in the back window. A second strike removes the remaining wooden slatted shutters and clears the jagged edges of the glass at the bottom of the window.
Beyond can be seen a dining room. A single table with a couple of goblets on it near the window. Along the north wall are several shelves with dishes, pots, and pans. A single closed door at the east end of the north wall the only visible exit.
Climbing through the window will cost 15' worth of movement. Should it come up being on opposite sides of the window will provide cover from attacks.
In the main room the man continues to be held by Serelina's spell.

Serelina Bellafini |
"Tarvus, it might be a good idea to have your automaton pin this person to the ground or bind him in some other fashion. He called for help and and we only expect it to arrive soon. My spell could fail at any moment." Serelina's glare continues to focus on the poor soul and the cold, hideous laughter again burst forth.
Evil eye -2 to attacks and Cackle to maintain misfortune and extend evil eye. Also, I imagine Serelina to be at around S-14 as she did move into the store.
GM Ascension |
I'm assuming Tomlin continues moving around to the front. His location is if he double moved this turn.
Edric closes on the paralyzed man, silently reaching out to grab hold of him, though Serelina's spell holds for the time being preventing him from moving.
On the south side Ian clambers through the window. Now that he is inside he can see a fireplace occupies the southeast corner of the room.
Double moving him to the door? Unless he wants to do something else inside the unoccupied room.
Party may act again
Hopefully this one is more clear for Tavrus?
Tavrus, Serelina, Edric, and Valdr are up again
Serelina Bellafini |
"Eventually, perhaps... but for now he has information we need. I believe he has knowledge of the traitors as his words had some falseness to them." The witch again laughs hideously and continues her glaring at the prisoner. "He apparently called out to an ally, I believe it may have been the store-owner's hame, so be on watch for anyone coming to his aid. It may also be smart to have your automaton move the fool to the center of the room, away from the doors and windows."
Cackle to extend Misfortune and Evil Eye and adding - 2 to all skill checks.
Ian Marros |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Ian will aggressively go after the source, kicking doors whatever it takes, still stomping through the place in full armor.
Serelina Bellafini |
Serelina continues her glare and maniacal laughter and says, "Once your automaton pins him, I imagine I can keep him safe enough here if you wish to see what is taking the others so long..."
Cackle, evil eye vs. AC...
GM Ascension |
Pushing open the door Ian finds a narrow hallway leading west to several more doors. On the east end is another door which is open, leading into a room. Two leopards prowl the area. Both immediately turn at the sound of Ian opening door.
Edric pushes the man to the floor while Tavrus heads to the south door to investigate the noise.
Ian, it was your move action to open the door, you have a standard remaining.
Ian Marros |
Ian shortens his grip on the Bardiche (as an immediate action) and attacks the adjacent leopard, yelling as he swings.
ToHit: 1d20 + 13 - 3 ⇒ (17) + 13 - 3 = 27
Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Tavrus |
only moved, should still have a standard action left. if that is a cheetah in front of me Tavrus will let forth a crackling wave of negative energy, excluding Ian and the man being subdued by Edric.
3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6) = 14 negative energy, DC 19 will negates, 30ft radius from Tavrus.
Serelina Bellafini |
Moving to see if she can aid in the combat in the other room while keeping an eye on the captive, Serelina cautiously circles around towards the southern door, still laughing hideously.
Cacle. Moves to X15. Also - making sure there are no other apparent doors in the area...
Brother Tomlin |
Tomlin will continue moving until he enters the room with the bulk of the party. From there if he hears combat he will move to assist, flanking to sneak attack if possible.
I'll be traveling over the next few days with only sporadic posting. Feel free to GM PC my character if I'm holding things up
GM Ascension |
Will do Tomlin
Tavrus opens the door to find the leopard sitting in the doorway while Tomlin enters the room from the front door.
Ian slashes the leopard from the corner doorway and it lets out a yowl of pain. It in turn moves into the hallway and strikes back at the source of its pain. It latches its teeth into one leg, twisting and tearing causing Ian some discomfort, though the teeth slide away from the metal greaves preventing the beast from keeping a hold of him.
Full attack d20 + mods = 23, 17, 17
23 hits, Damage: d6 + mods = 9
Free grapple check with bite. d20 + mods = 21
The second leopard immediately turns on Tavrus and manages to catch him with one of its claws.
Attacks d20 + mods = 8, 13, 15
Damage d3 + mods = 7
A third leopard appears in the room next to the first, also attempting to get at Ian.
Cover of the doorway giving +4 to AC
d20 + mods = 19, 24, 17
Serelina's prisoner continues to be held fast by the spell and Edric has the man fully pinned to the floor.
GM PC'd Valdr to move down to assist Tavrus as well.

Tavrus |
Tavrus will let forth a crackling wave of negative energy, excluding Ian Valdyr and Tomlin. Should hit all 3 cheetahs and unfortunately the guy being subdued (i can only exclude 3).
3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4) = 15 negative energy, DC 19 will negates, 30ft radius from Tavrus.
Ian Marros |
On next turn...
Ian hacks downward at the leopard, trying to butcher it, some blood spattered on his face and a bit running down his steel boot.
ToHit: 1d20 + 13 - 3 ⇒ (16) + 13 - 3 = 26
ToHit: 1d20 + 8 - 3 ⇒ (19) + 8 - 3 = 24
Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Serelina Bellafini |
Serelina continues to cackle, but also turns to see the cheetah through the door and her mouth and throat appear to form a strenuous scream at the beast.
Ear-piercing Screem DC 17: 3d8 ⇒ (1, 8, 7) = 16
Brother Tomlin |
Tomlin wheeled in the room and rapidly took in the scene. He wasn't surprised to see combat, but quickly noted that Tavrus' fight with a large feline blocked the path further into the room. Although Edric held the one enemy in the room fast, the halfling knew that Tavrus' warrior might be needed elsewhere in the fight. Therefore, he wheeled back to the north and holding his curved blades close to the top of the pommel attempted to bludgeon the pinned man unconscious.
5ft step to next to the pinned man, then full attack action for non-lethal damage against him. Adding -4 for each hit due to trying to use lethal weapon for non-lethal damage
Attack #1: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 8 - 4 = 15
Damage if Attack #1 hits 1d4 + 3d6 ⇒ (4) + (3, 5, 5) = 17
Attack #2: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 8 - 4 = 16
Damage if Attack #2 hits 1d4 + 3d6 ⇒ (1) + (1, 1, 2) = 5
GM Ascension |
Will save vs Ear Piercing Scream d20 + mods = 12
GM PC Valdr
Valdr attempts to finish off the beast on Tavrus, but finds his attack hampered by the presence of the door frame.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Tomlin's brutal but efficient bludgeoning off the paralyzed man leaves his eyes glazing over and freeing Edric to take other actions.
The leopard near Ian moves into the hallway, and a fourth leopard appears to take its place in the room.
Attacks d20 + mods = 26, 24, 24
Damage d6 + mods = 9, d3 + mods = 3, 3
Free grapple d20 + mods = 23
Sinking both tooth and claws into Ian the cat gets a good grip on him, dragging and pulling at one arm.
Ian is grappled and will not be able to use a two handed weapon until he breaks free
The second cat also tries to get at him but is unable to reach him effectively.
Attacks d20 + mods = 10, 20, 10
The last cat continues biting and clawing at Tavrus.
Attacks d20 + mods = 20, 18, 11
Damage d6 + mods = 10, d3 + mods = 3
Free grapple d20 + mods = 28
Tavrus finds himself in the same predicament as Ian.

Map
Tavrus |
there isn't a lot else i can do. many of my spells target Humanoids which these are not. i DID, however, forget to call Edric over here. The cheetah should technically be in my square while grappling me, right?
concentration: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 vs DC 10 + spell level (3) + grappler's CMB (?)
"Edric, get over here and kill this thing!"
Ian Marros |
Ian will try to shake the cat lose.
CMB: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 4 = 24
If successful, can I back up 5 feet into the bottleneck of that hall, as my move action for that turn?
Serelina Bellafini |
@GM - Ear Piercing Scream should have left the leopard on Tarvus dazed for the round. @Tarvus - I think that sharing a square when grappling is the old 3.5 rule, isn't it?
With Tomlin dispatching her victim, Serelina moves closer to the action. Move to W17 She then concentrates to extend her unluck upon the leopard facing Tarvus. Misfortune DC 19
Brother Tomlin |
The shopkeeper now unconscious and Edric and Serelina free to move on to engage the large feline further into the room, Tomlin assessed the situation for the best next action. However, no good options evidenced themselves. Instead, the halfling kept his eye on the fight with the feline for an opportunity to dart into the next room.
Dropping in the initiative for now. As soon as the leopard south of Tavrus is dead, Tomlin will move into the room.
GM Ascension |
@Ian, you'd need to make an acrobatics roll to move through the leopard. The doorframe and wall block diagonal movement.
Ian breaks free of the beasts jaws while in the main room Tavrus steps to the side allowing Edric a clear line to charge in and attack.
Edric charges, but the cat twists to the side of his thrusting scimitar.
Valdr takes another swing at the leopard, finishing it off.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
As Tomlin moves into the hallway he can see a man in the back room. He is missing one arm, but his free arm is hastily grabbing several papers from off a desk and stuffing them into a pouch at his waist.
Tomlin, your current position on the map is a single move action for you, you have a standard left over. Leopards are up after Tomlin finishes.
GM Ascension |
Just a side note here, I realize Tomlin is traveling and may not be able to post. I'm hesitant to GM PC him in this particular case though knowing what I know about this encounter. If someone else wants to post an standard action for him in case he doesn't post again before I move the leopards I'm fine with that.
Serelina Bellafini |
I will leave Tomlin's action for someone who has observed him being played more.
Serelina steps beyond the corpse of the leopard into the room (z-20). Upon seeing the unarmed man she shouts, "He is trying to escape!" then attempts to twist fate against the one-armed man to increase the chances of his apprehension. Misfortune DC 19
GM Ascension |
Whether he has grabbed all the important papers or has decided to forget about them the one armed man turns his focus towards Tomlin. He makes no gestures or motion of any kind, but a few seconds later two more leopards appear in the hallway, one to either side of Tomlin.
These immediately attack the hafling.
Attacks d20 + mods = 15, 15, 21, 20, 12, 20
Damage d3 + mods = 6, d6 + mods = 6, d3 + mods = 5
One free grappled check d20 + mods = 10
The man chortles, "The mages lackeys come to play? You can all burn for what has been done to me." He then moves south out of view.
The other leopards continue to harass Ian.
d20 + mods = 27, 16, 22
Damage d6 + mods = 8
Free grapple check d20 + mods = 17
d20 + mods = 15, 11, 25, all misses due to the cover

Ian Marros |
Ian yells in pain as he's bitten again.
"Damn these beasts! He's getting away!"
He continues to fight doggedly despite his injuries.
ToHit: 1d20 + 13 - 3 ⇒ (9) + 13 - 3 = 19
ToHit: 1d20 + 8 - 3 ⇒ (3) + 8 - 3 = 8
Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Brother Tomlin |
Shock and aggravation wrestled with pain for first place in Tomlin's mind as the halfling worked to take in the change the last few seconds brought. Confusion was there too. How did he summon more of these things with no focus, and while shoving all those papers in a bag?? He knew little of the ways of magic, but a mage once mentioned that summoning spells typically are slow and require extended concentration. Realizing such thoughts wouldn't help right now, he pushed aside the sharp pain of his wounds to assess. With no one to offer a good flanking attack he would struggle in a straight up fight against the leopards. Recalling the outside of the building, he remembered no exits. A secret door might be present to the outside, and the man might attempt to crawl through the window. Either of those he might be able to cut off. Ruefully, he did also consider the fact that the room might contain a trapdoor or stairs to some other exit. Nothing to be done about that.
His mind quickly made up Tomlin bolted toward the window that Ian apparently had knocked out, attempting to dodge past the leopards' snapping jaws.
Move Action with Acrobatics to avoid AoO's toward the window, then a standard action to move through the window to outside the room
Acrobatics Check 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
GM Ascension |
I'm confused, did I try and take an extra action? I'm guessing Serelina not get to enter the room and misfortune the one-armed man?
Correct, you'd moved the previous turn to get close to the door, then I was waiting for Tomlin to clarify his action before the enemies went again.
