Game Master JTMC93

The Gods call upon the Mightiest of Heroes to participate in the greatest challenge they will ever face.

You awaken in a Massive Shrine in a circle around a Massive Dragon Statue cradling a Halfling Woman in the middle of a Fountain. You find you can't access your spells nor can you draw any weapons.

In front of the Fountain you see the Master of the Games. As he stands his face changes from a Stag-Headed God to that of a Snake-Headed God.

Welcome to the Arena. Sorry for hiding my true face until now.

But I figure you will understand why I kept the fact that I am a Trickster God hidden.

Enjoy the battle. I will be unlocking your buffing abilities now. Once everyone is ready I will completely unlock your abilities for combat.

Let the sacri... errr...

Exploration Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Combat Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Unknown Unknown Unknown

The masked participant, a cloaked figure with what appears to be a smooth stone face (that betrays no expression, emotion, sex or race) looks around, silently observing the others standing about.

Please everyone describe your physical appearance, gear and weapons, as well as anything else that can be readily observed at a glance.

Male Vanara

Upon waking a slender figure stands prepared and ready for action. Clothed head to toe in formfitting gear the only thing not covered is a long hairy tail. Even his face and eyes are covered as he peers out through dark googles.

DM eyes only:

I had 94,372 gold left, so, last minute purchases
4 scrolls of Divine Power (CL 18), 7200 gold,
10 scrolls of Fly (CL 5) 3750 gold
4 scrolls of Bestow Grace of the Champion (CL 13) 4000 gold
5 scrolls of dimension door, 3500 gold
2 scrolls of antimagic field, 3,300
Another 10 scrolls of mind blank 24,000 gold
4 scrolls of heal, (CL 11) 6,600
2 scrolls of Restoration, greater 4550
2 CLW wands, 1500
Shield wand CL 2, 1500
4 scrolls of Moment of Prescience CL 15, 12000
1 scroll of Foresight, 3825,
Which totals to 75,725 spent, so, we’ll top it off with 4 scrolls of miracle. And 50 normal arrows.

So, Initiative, I presume I give you two checks?
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26

As for buffing (I'm already invisible and mind blanked when I enter the arena, so no one can see me unless they have a non-divination ability to see invisible), I'll take a scroll of Divine Power, Fly, Moment of Prescience, Foresight, Bestow Grace of the Champion, Shield, Improved Invisibility, and ready an action to scroll of dimension door 250 feet up and 50 feet back, presuming that won't place me in limbo. Otherwise, I go as far up as I can.

My UMD checks, in order, I pass on anything but a 1. Anything other than Foresight, I will retry before moving on if I fail.
1d20 ⇒ 21d20 ⇒ 21d20 ⇒ 71d20 ⇒ 61d20 ⇒ 201d20 ⇒ 131d20 ⇒ 5

Male Human

Looking up as the Master of the Games speaks, Varins scowls, revealing unnaturally sharp teeth. He listens a moment, as he rises to his feet, simultaneously looking over the other combatants with dark eyes. "Well, this is a bit unusual..." he mutters to himself, in a rough voice.

At full height, he stands a few inches upward of 6 feet tall, and sports a muscular build. Though seemingly human, to an extent, pale scales run across his skin, and leathery wings spread from his back. He wears relatively common clothing, with an assortment of accessories and items. The only obvious weapon he holds is a falchion, resting between the wings on his back.

He crosses his arms over his chest, and waits.

Jezebel is a stunningly beautiful woman covered in glowing tattoos. She wears a pair of black cestus on her hands and is covered in a black cloak. She wears a red stylish headwrap that trails around her neck. A pair of mirrored glasses are the only other adornments you can see. She is smallish at 5'4" and slender. She smiles from behind her glasses at each of the competitors. Looking over at Varin she says in a voice like tinkling bells, My...you certainly are a big one. Looking at the rest of the group she says brightly Good luck to you all!

You here a Roar and when you look up you notice that the ceiling changing from solid stone into a Clear Crystalline Glass and a large amount of Dragons flying around.

You hear a deep angry hiss from the Master.

Accursed Vulture. Sending her servants. Well she won't be bothering us for long.

Right as he finishes his saying you see blue threads around your body shimmer. You watch the Master snap his fingers and see the lava launch up and devour the Dragons.

Everyone ready? If you wish to make a run for it I would recommend prepping soon.

By my figures it would take you 5 Minutes at running speeds for you to make the Gates out of the Temple once I drop the Wards.

If you aren't ready then we can hold on.

Oh wait it seems not everyone is awake yet...

He walks forwards and kicks Bozro, Kazgar, Ripple, & Rumples.

DM only:
My character will attempt to make visible tracks (stuff even non-trackers could see, dust-foot prints, maybe) where he landed and then cast his buffs, then move without tracks a few halfling size steps backwards, to half the limit of what's allowed.

If you require checks for that.. First for the fake tracks, (Survival) and then for the moving without leaving tracks, I suppose that could be stealth or survival, or you could treat it as an enemy survival roll, DC 26 for tracking someone trying to cover their tracks, small, on hard ground.

1d20 + 25 ⇒ (3) + 25 = 28
1d20 + 48 ⇒ (7) + 48 = 55
or
1d20 + 25 ⇒ (18) + 25 = 43

Of course, this is all just flavor if he isn't allowed to move more than 5 ft, and thus, no matter what tricks he pulls, the only bonus is the 50% concealment.

The feverish sound of a nervous halfling repeatedly casting spells, followed by "Um... Um... Good luck everyone?" is all that is seen of Diajoubu, the Ok, save for the shuffling footprints.

A mauve-skinned merwoman carrying several water tight pouches and wearing extensive jewelry puts down the crustacean she was in the middle of eating, harrumphs, and turns invisible.

DM EYES ONLY:

I turn invisible using my Ninja capstone ability for 2 ki (16 left)
Initiative: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
I take out my Gem of Seeing and take a quick survey of the other participants
I take out several scrolls and cast Mind Blank, Ward the Faithful, Overland Flight, Barkskin, Circles of Protection Good/Evil/Law/Chaos, Stoneskin, Spell Turning, and Freedom of Movement.
I slip off my Ring of Ki Mastery and slip on my Ring of Invisibility.
I then prepare to book it the hell away from those dragons and everybody else.

I need a second Initiative.

Male Human

Varin grits his teeth as the dragons are incinerated, then grunts. Taking a few steps away from the rest of the participants, he mutters several words under his breath, before turning back to face to look at the others.

"So, let the slaughter begin, hmm? Haha, well this sounds like it could be fun! I hope no one dies too fast," he says, with a lopsided grin.

With that, he makes a few gestures with one hand and vanishes.

Jezebel winks at the group and then says a word in Orvian before disappearing.

GM eyes only:
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27

Relax little Dragon Touched. They might have appeared as Dragons but they weren't.

Though I am shocked that she made a move now. You might encounter her other servants in the arena.

If they do leave them to the Adamantine Golems. Unless you feel like wasting your precious abilities on the Dead Queens Minions.

As he finishes speaing you see a Magma covered Dragon Zombie rise up and try to climb into the Shrine and then falls back into the Magma.

See what I mean little Dragon?

Male Vanara

Garret moves away silently, stalking his prey.

GM ONLY:

I PMed my action and here are the rolls:
Stealth: 1d20 + 62 ⇒ (9) + 62 = 71
Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Unknown Unknown Unknown

The Masked Participant stands patiently, waiting, until finally no one else remains within sight (having fled, turned invisible, teleported, or whatever else).

Then the lonesome figure turns to the Master of Games and says in a gravelly deadpan*:

Read only if you are still present, but otherwise hidden from sight:

"You need not worry, Master. As your humble servant, I shall observe them all in the trials to come, guiding them along their proper paths just as you wished."

Only then does the humble Servant of the Games turn to leave, walking calmly from the room.

* Think of Princess Leia's voice in Star Wars when she was disguised as a bounty hunter in Jabba's Palace.

Garret you already have given me yours.

As the Masked Participant:

Grining, revealing his fangs, he speaks to his little servant.

Yes, little one go forth and make sure they do.

Male Human

A little behind on this, but:

Varin watches the creature struggle for a moment, giving a grim smile and a small incline of his head to the Trickster God.

"By all means, continue. I won't say I dislike the show," he says with a chuckle.

GM Only:
At that point, Varin'll take to the air some distance, taking 10 on stealth for a 61 (with 20 knocked off for people who can see through invisibility, but with Mind Blank, there shouldn't actually be many cases where that's possible).
.
Otherwise, he'll hang out, and see where the rest of the participants head to in the meantime.

Forgot to mention this: You can't take 10 or 20 unless you have a Class Feature/Spell Effect that would allow it...

Is that a (somewhat lame) impromptu house rule, or are the dragons being devoured by lava just too much of a distraction? :P

Actually no... That was meant to be in the Rules all along... Better yet seeing as it was my own fault you can.

Note: The Dragons are for the most part gone now. Maybe a few Roars occasionally.

Room Height: 20 Feet. Beware of this. Also Note that you are only safe if you are over the Stone.

Male Human

For the GM:
Alrighty then, my stealth check will be:
.
1d20 + 51 ⇒ (6) + 51 = 57
.
57 instead.
.
Also, since we have I think 3 character who haven't 'woken up' yet, I'm guessing I'll just be waiting here for a moment? I'll guess that they won't be asleep terribly long, as it's more just that they're not online atm, but if, in game, it takes more than 5 minutes for everyone to clear out, Varin'll get going regardless.

GM:
Then I suppose Daijoubu will just fly above the stone, as high as he is allowed (up to a maximum of 300 ft) once he's out of the room and get to the exit-ish areas? 1d20 + 48 ⇒ (15) + 48 = 63 +20 if invis works, +30 if range works.

You are all stuck 60 Feet from the Statue. For some reason.

Well I will give them a little more time for their Souls to get here.

I am now opening up the lock on the Statue. Also in your mind you should now be able to access a map of the arena. Just focus and you should be able to see it.

The Hexes will open up into an open battlefield automatically when combat begins. As such those who seek combat will easily find it.

Good Luck.

With a dragon-like hiss he yells...

LET THE COMBAT START!

With a snap of his fingers he explodes in a torrent of dust. All Invisibility & Etherealness is negated. As the Blue Threads shatter.

Mwahahahahahaha!

The only ones safe are the Sleepers.

Unknown Unknown Unknown

His servant does not seek out combat. It would only serve to interfere with the true tasks at hand.

Male Vanara

Only look at the following if you make your perception check. I'm not sure how we should handle whether or not you actually have, I will default to the MotG. Should I post the DC or what?

Success!:

Garret slinks off trailing the Merwoman as though her magic trick had no effect on him. He maintains a constant distance of about 50ft between them.

You all start in the very center where the Temple Icon is.

Oh and for the first round you are using combat initiative and are all surprised. You suffer the penalties for this.

Exceptions: Masked Participant.

Post the Result of your check as a DC: XX where XX is the result. Also note that you all lose Invisibility and such.

Jezebel it is your turn... And wow that felt weird typing...

The inner voice within your ear

If MP is not surprised, doesn't that mean I get to act in the surprise round (and thus get to declare actions first)?

Also, when do you want us to start posting on the Gameplay tab and what stuff do you want there?

Ravingdork wrote:

You are correct.

Combat Actions: The thread is under the Gameplay tab.

Male

"Hrmm, grah heh whaddimiss?"

Rumple is an exceedingly short creature, around a foot and half tall, buried completely beneath all manner of robes and cloaks, cloth-looking armor, and a wide-brimmed hat. His complex looking goggle system peaks out from beneath his hat's brim in all directions, whirring and focusing in on anyone nearby.

GM's Eyes:
Initiative: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (6) + 25 = 31
Perception: 1d20 + 56 ⇒ (3) + 56 = 59

Also, MoG, could you make it clear exactly what is surrounding us, what we're standing on, etc? Can Rumple burrow?

2 Initiatives.

It is just a large open shrine. The only thing there is the Fountain with you can't easily get up on.

& you don't want to burrow.

Male

GM's Eyes:
Shuuuuuushh, I wanna be a secret tunneler! Anyways, assuming Rumple has his rod and wand in hand (or whenever it's his turn with quickdraw), he'll dimension door as far away as possible.

What direction and how far?

I also need an additional Initiative from you.

Male

GM's Eyes:
I posted in the gameplay thread, I'll add another initiative there.

Master Of The Games wrote:

Would you please give us the exact dimensions of the shrine an fountain? All I've seen is ceiling height.

EDIT: Also, I'm assuming we're in a valley, with the outer terrain rings being higher than (and possibly visible from) the lower rings. Is that so?

Actually, You are in a Large Mile Wide Open Shrine. The Fountains Walls are 2.5 feet High. and covers the Area of a Huge Sized Dragon.

The Walls Rise into a Clear Dome of Crystalline Substance. You are above the other terrain. The Lava is around 1/2 a Mile below your current altitude.

The Stone Towers are above the Terrain by 1/4 of a Mile.

Male

GM's Eyes:
Rumple bunkers down in the nearest small hidey-hole in hex 50.60. If he hears anyone nearby, he Blurs, Stealths, and takes actions as detailed in my PM.

Stealth: 1d20 + 59 ⇒ (13) + 59 = 72
Perception: 1d20 + 56 ⇒ (18) + 56 = 74

Well that's more like it. Rumples probably stands a good chance of hearing anyone in that hex, or maybe even some past it.

Male Dwarf

All anyone's seen of Kazgar up until this point was an iron cauldron which appeared to be loudly snoring.

Eventually, the change in location and all the noise gets through to him over the echoes of his own snores, and he abruptly goes quiet and rises to his feet. "Oh, we've started then? Very well then. Onwards!"

Description: Kazgar is a spry-looking dwarf standing in a large cauldron. He's wearing a robe (no visible armor), and is covered in a gaudy collection of gear which doesn't even attempt to match.

Initative:
Combat: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Exploration: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

GM roll, per PM:
1d6 ⇒ 2

Male Hafling

Kiai...... yah.... huah....hayaah....

With a lot of martial sounding screams and battlecries Bozro gets ready for whats ahead.Stretching and making practicing swings with his fierce looking weapon.

Initiative my initiative is always 38

Male Hafling

OK then Since I don't know what else to do:

I will use my overland speed and hustle down the Southeast path all the way to HEX 67.57.If one hex is one mile that will take me a little less than 1 hour. I will be waiting there for opponents.

The inner voice within your ear

Seeing as you're waiting for opponents, I take it you make no attempt to conceal your movements, Mr. Wilkins?

(Also, reporting in for the evening.)

How do you always have a 38?

And you will receive a PM shortly.

Ravingdork wrote:

Right....

Master Of The Games wrote:

17th level Class Feature

Male Hafling

And in response to your PM here goes:

GM:
here is my will save

1d20 + 33 ⇒ (4) + 33 = 37

and I go over and sunder the statue

damage: 1d2 + 22 + 12 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 22 + 12 + (3, 4) = 42

Male Hafling

GM:
Well I just touch it then:)

An Hour have passed as people move out.

Tell me where you moved in that hour.

Bozro has already moved.

Anyone else?

Bozro: PMs Please.
