Yep, it was sooo much fun giving Ansel a bit of attitude. I'm sure Angelique will continue to lash out like this often throughout this case, she just tries to be smart about it when she unloads.

You can't roll perception too much in this game.
Once I describe the room and such, feel free to roll on individual aspects or something like "I roll Perception on this bookcase looking for missing volumnes' or something more exact. We'll see how it goes and adjust perception as we go. Best way to test is to play!
Angelique Rousseau |
Ah, thats an excellent way of doing it. I'm thinking of asking / looking about that fireplace, its most unusual for it to not be used during such cold weather.
Angelique Rousseau |
Sure!
Since Angelique got stonewalled by Ansel and Josua, unless Josua has anything to say to her once she has seen the crime scene, Angelique will attempt to either destroy the current theory that it was Mantel, OR find evidence that makes someone else look equally guilty. To do this, she is really going to have to start rolling Gather Information checks on the victim, and to track down the bartender at the bar Mantel apparently bragged about killing someone. I'll also stop by the blood apparently just outside the house, although I don't quite know what I'd expect to get out of it.
Good Enough?
Angelique Rousseau |
I don't mind the GM Cough at all! I was slightly worried that I might miss something in the inspection of the scene, so sometimes a hint is good to give me some peace of mind that I didn't miss something really obvious!
Also I think I might love the Prestidigitation spell a little too much...
Angelique Rousseau |
Page 2...still enjoying the game? Anything I need to adjust or change?
Also, Angelique has quite the mouth on her!
Yep, I hope that mouth isn't too much of a problem, I could tone her down if you like, Angelique doesn't really have a favourable opinion of noble houses at the moment, so I'm trying to put that across, but if shes coming across too strongly as just an insufferable b+**~ thats annoying to interact with then dont hesitate to let me know!

No, it is fine. As I'm sure you know though, Magnimar is run by nobles. You can get away witht hat with a rich, eccentric old halfling who still remembers the streets but with others....might not go so well for you. I believe in PC consequences! That said, I like Angelique's style.
I took a liberty with a specific person Angelique might know in the city. I thought that a Calistrian Oracle might have a fair idea of the popular nightclubs in Magnimar and jumped off that, but if it was a stretch feel free to have an NPC (or my knowledge roll), tell me she doesn't know anything, and steer me in a different direction. General action order would be Nightclub (if open) ---> Mistress, or if the nightclub is closed then Mistress and then I'll see where I go from there.
Tough one. One of my favorite parts of RPGing (in a solo game) is making interesting NPCs (it'll come out in this game, I promise) with backstories and interests all of their own. Not just 'bartender #2' or 'shopkeep plot dump guy' like other campaigns. So I usually really like to make them myself (I had an argument with a live player once over it).
That said in PbP we need to move things along and besides, your PC probably DOES know someone in Lowcleft. So I'll allow it, but now you know my feelings. Do you want any special link with this NPC? Or do I have total free reign?
Angelique Rousseau |
You have total free reign. I imagined it as more "just something she knows" rather than someone she had actual interaction with.
Angelique Rousseau |
Actually Angelique wouldn't mind if Ansel tracked her down again shortly after she left the nightclub (or something), it wasn't primarily a reason to escape Ansel, more of an opportunistic means to use the fact that he is currently following her around, as a means to gain entry into the club.
Angelique Rousseau |
Yep, unexpected in a good way. I had no suspicions that I would meet one of the major plays in that house, it definitely ups the stakes.
This guy looks really scary though! The Magnimar Calistrian temple is notorious for being selective as to who gets access to its inner chambers, which makes this individual very powerful indeed.
Angelique Rousseau |
I found a couple of loopholes that Angelique fully expects to abuse to slide out of her oath. Firstly, if Ansel lays a hand on her, after she formally issues a verbal request for him to leave her alone then thats a broken oath right there, and secondly, Angelique was careful to phrase the vow as preventing her from investigating Slanie, but NOT the corpse found in the sewers. Her third loophole, is that there is nothing in her vow about then investigating House Derexhis itself.
BOOM.
Angelique Rousseau |
I liked most things about it, but I did have one minor frustration. Against any other character, his "play" would have failed, they would have simply lied to his face and continued onwards. Obviously against Angelique, that doesn't fly due to her class feature, so that was a little annoying she got screwed so easily but then again, curses are mechanically supposed to be weaknesses, and it was certain to come up sooner rather than later.
I think overall though, it was a cool mechanic, since it allows this guy to really put himself out there as a strong antagonist, which sorta puts Angelique back in her box a little bit. This guy is obviously well connected, smart, and prolly out of her league combat wise, which means any 'direct" means to go around him are off the table, it forces Angelique to be just a little bit more clever in how she solves problems instead of running into them head on (like I think she might have been doing lately).
Angelique Rousseau |
Ah, then I have no issues. Its always nice coming up against someone with a better information network than you yourself have access to!
Angelique Rousseau |
I don't think you did something wrong with Marc? Angelique took the warning about his face being full of deceit as trusting this guy would end up being a Very Bad Thing, so Angelique decided to back out of my deal. I just got a massive vibe that Marc was going to turn around and betray me so if thats not the case then something must have got lost in translation~
Also I didn't recant it, I just stated that Angelique would simply bluff it out, calling the the guard to free the prisoner, then simply leave the cell and keep Marc tied/bound/restrained up. Angelique leaves, passes the note onto Giana, and then moves to Golemworks. No recanting necessary.
Angelique Rousseau |
Yeah, I'm keeping the lust aspect of Calistria fairly low key because I don't want things awkward, but on the other hand, there are somethings that a devotee of Calistria wouldn't really be offended by, such as admiring looks.
Angelique Rousseau |
1. Hey, if the worst comes to pass and they roll a lucky critical hit, just have it turn into Non lethal damage! Then again, I guess that kinda leaves her unconscious on the ground which might not be too safe.
2. I very much liked the description, since I was able to get a perfect picture in my head as to the state of the district, and it actually allowed me to tick off whether some options I had for entry were viable or unviable.
Angelique Rousseau |
Gunslingers are fine. I never play them myself because I'm terrible with all the specific rules they have but I don't have a problem with NPC's being gunslingers, or other characters playing them.
A few other options I had involved seeking entry via alternative crime families active in the area (such as Night Scales or something), or even bribing my way in. I already knew that I wasn't fighting my way in, and Angelique isn't really a sneak character, which meant diplomacy either as a tool to get inside, or diplomacy to leverage someone else giving me access. Alternatively, I was prepared to investigate some weaknesses or vulnerabilities of several of his guards. Rather like Moriarty once said, every person has a pressure point, a weakness available to be exploited, and Angelique would have tried that had all else failed.
Angelique Rousseau |
I didn't, but asking is really all I have. I'm not sneaking past a well guarded entrance, and I'm sure as hell not fighting, which means talking is the best way to get this done.
Angelique Rousseau |
Funny you should say that, without knowing too much as to whats coming up, I briefly considered an option at getting Resbar to break me out =]
Angelique Rousseau |
It's fine, I did a few stocktakes so have been fairly tired myself. Nothing to be sorry for.
Angelique Rousseau |
Heh, even I only have hunches as to who they are, Angelique still remains woefully entirely in the dark!
Angelique Rousseau |
Its fine, take your time~
My thoughts are with you and your family.
