Copper Fratello |
Round 2, 40/32HP, 16 AC
"Felgar! You stupid bearded gnome! Turning on us?" Copper spits out, furious with the dwarf for hurting Neva. He moves around the hole to where he can be of better assistance in helping Neva get out of the room. Rex, help me out here? Neva, give me your hand, we'll pull you up! Rutter, Pravlox, I think it's time to go!" As he reaches down with one hand to help Neva, he pulls forth a wand with the other, ready to speak the command word if the dwarf acts agressively towards them again. "Felgar can stay with his new friends."
Free Action: Talk
Move Action: Move around hole to get to a better position to help Neva out? Is there any kind of check to get out of the room, or can you just get out?
Swift: Color Spray Wand from sheath
Ready Action to activate the wand at Felgar if he moves to block or attack Rutter, Pravlox, or Neva?
Copper Fratello |
In light of me previously forgetting about the fact that I could tell there was magic involved with Felgar's change in target, I could like to amend my previous post to have used Grease on Felgar's weapon instead of pulling my wand of Color Spray.
Reflex save is 15 to avoid dropping it, Felgar.
Aardvark DM |
Round 2:
Copper, waiting to see what he can do to help, is surprised when Felgar strikes Neva. The dwarf's axe bites hard into the woman, as he moves almost mechanically like an automaton.
Pravlox, taking the opening offered by Rutter's hasty movement, causes a magically created pit to open beneath the feet of the two southernmost vampires. Felgar balances precariously on the edge of the pit as well. While one of the things falls into the new hole, the other manages to step aside just in time.
Vamp 1 Ref 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Vamp 2 Ref 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8, falling damage 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
In surprise at Felgar's action against Neva, Copper does what he can to disarm the dwarf of his greatest threat. Casting a spell, the dwarf's axe becomes coated in a slippery grease, which in turn causes him to lose his grip and drop the thing. The sloping floor around the pit causes the newly oiled weapon to slide into the dark opening, falling down into it with the other vampire.
Pleased by the action taken by the dwarf, the westernmost vampire tries to sweet talk Rutter. "Vere are you goinG little man? Come, stay vit us. It vill be a delectable time."
Round 2:
Neva - Move to Q11, Channeled
Vamp 4 - 3 damage, 5 temps Opened lid, stood up
Rex - moved to K10, ready to help
Vamp 1 - 11 damage magically spoke to Felgar.
Rutter - Hit with no effect, moved to O11
Vamp 2 - 30 damage Got out of coffin into Q8
Felgar - Hit Neva
Pravlox - Moved to P11, cast create pit
Copper - Cast grease on Felgar's weapon
Vamp 3 - 5 damage, 5 temps magically spoke to Rutter
Copper Fratello |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Dont know if another Spellcraft would be appropriate at this point for the Vamp speaking to Rutter, but just in case... Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Neva Vallastoi |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Neva gasped in pain at the blow. "Felgar...", she whimpered, wrapping one arm around her wound, bending, almost falling.
But her face still showed a fierce compassion for her friend. Her other arm reached up weakly to touch him. "Lady, guard him mind and body!" she croaked plaintively.
Cast Protection from Evil on Felgar, which might provoke from the unarmed dwarf?
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Rutter |
Not sure if Rutter should get a +2 for the request being against his nature. I'd think so, since we're in combat, and the request is basically to quit fighting. Anyway, it's added into the roll - if it doesn't apply, reduce it by 2.
Will save (-2 negative levels, +2 against his nature): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Not that it would help, anyway. I'll finish up that ranger. Should he be 4th level or 3rd? Average wealth by level?
Pravlox |
Sense Motive 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Rex will move down and get into melee with as many of the enemy as he can, using himself as a barrier to buy time for others to leave.
bite 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Aardvark DM |
Sorry, been off this week, and real busy. Nothing like taking time off.... to do work all around the house.
Felgar, with the Prot vs. Evil you get a new save (DC 14 Will), with a +2 (exclude the +2 for actions against your nature)
Copper Fratello |
*facepalm*
Sometimes I think the dice roller on these boards is programmed to recognize certain phrases (like 'Will Save' for example) and purposely make any die roll that comes immediately after that a low number. :P
Aardvark DM |
Neva attempts to give Felgar the opportunity to hedge out the controlling effect of the vampire, but he remains unable to shake it off.
The northmost vampire takes a step forward and attacks the retreating halfling, the pit-maker. He hits and Pravlox can feel some of his life essence slip away.
Vamp 4, move to O10
attack Pravlox 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 and Drain 1 level
Rex, moves in protectively, biting at the nearby vampire. He misses but his presence provides a modicum of a barrier to allow others to step out.
The southern vampire, just catching himself from falling in the magically appearing pit beneath his feet, turns into an almost imperceptible cloud. In this clouded form, he floats from the edge of the pit to the back corner away from the heroes.
Vamp 1 standard Gaseous Form, Move to R7
Round 3:
Rutter - Hit with no effect, moved to O11
Vamp 2 - 30 damage Got out of coffin into Q8
Felgar - Hit Neva
Pravlox - Moved to P11, cast create pit
Copper - Cast grease on Felgar's weapon
Vamp 3 - 5 damage, 5 temps magically spoke to Rutter
Neva - Cast Prot vs. Evil on Felgar
Vamp 4 - 1 damage, 5 temps Opened lid, stood up
Rex - moved to P10, attacked Vamp 4
Vamp 1 - 9 damage Gaseous form, moved.
I can't find it, but do temp HP's stack? I don't think they do.
Rutter |
Rutter sheathes his kukri, and leans against the wall, waiting for the commotion to end so they can get on with the 'delectable time'.
"Don't y'all want to stick around? I don't know what 'delectable' means, but it sure sounds like a good time!"
Aardvark DM |
Rutter, also more than likely compelled in some way by how he acts similar to Felgar, seems to be done fighting. When from out of the pit, a cloud very much like the one the other vampire turned into, floats up and into the empty coffin that once held its corporeal body. The cloud begins to fill the space where the body laid, and becomes mostly inert in the gaseous shape that was the original vampire.
Round 3:
Felgar - Hit Neva
Pravlox - Moved to P11, cast create pit
Copper - Cast grease on Felgar's weapon
Vamp 3 - 5 damage, 5 temps magically spoke to Rutter
Neva - Cast Prot vs. Evil on Felgar
Vamp 4 - 1 damage, 5 temps Opened lid, stood up
Rex - moved to P10, attacked Vamp 4
Vamp 1 - 9 damage Gaseous form, moved.
Rutter - Put away weapons
Vamp 2 - 30 damage Gaseous form, moved.

Aardvark DM |
Yes, Felgar, sadly dominate lasts for days
Felgar, with his weapon lying at the bottom of the magically formed pit, reaches out to grab a hold of Neva in his desire to fulfill the command given to him. He clutches onto her tightly, but had ignored the sloping edge of the pit itself due to his controlled state. He is forced to release his newly found hold on the woman, to try and keep from sliding backward into the depths. Even then he doesn't succeed, and slips into it's depths.
Felgar Reflex 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 2 = 10,
falling damage 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
You can try a DC 15 Acrobatics to avoid the first d6 (2 damage)
Pravlox's turn, if you're still available.
Aardvark DM |
Vamp 3 Ref 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Pravlox cautiously produces a slippery grease beneath where the vampire controlling Rutter is standing. It was not expecting such a result, and promptly fell to the ground within the stuff.
Copper
Copper Fratello |
Round 3, 40/32HP, 16 AC
Spellcraft to tell what they did when they took gaseous form? 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Copper fires another blast of fire from his fingertips at whichever target looks the best.
Scorching Ray: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 6) = 13
If I can tell enough about the gaseous form to think that my ray will still hurt it, then I fire at Vamp2. If not, then I'll fire at 3.
Aardvark DM |
Looking at conversations about Insubstantial, but nothing definite yet. To simplify I will just have you affect Vamp 3, and keep looking into Insubstantial.
Copper fires into the crawlspace with a beam of fiery energy. Despite being prone and at an unusual angle, Copper's beam manages to hit the vampire that had just fallen in Pravlox's grease. It screams in anger as the fire burns it.
The burns already begin to fade as the thing tries to stand up in the slippery substance. He manages to get to his feet, and steady himself before giving Rutter a new command in anger. "Don't just stand dere, you should keel the man that hit me vit fire."
Move to stand, Acrobatics 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Round 3:
Neva - Cast Prot vs. Evil on Felgar
Vamp 4 - 1 damage, 5 temps Opened lid, stood up
Rex - moved to P10, attacked Vamp 4
Vamp 1 - 9 damage Gaseous form, moved.
Rutter - Put away weapons
Vamp 2 - 30 damage Gaseous form, moved.
Felgar - Grappled Neva, fell into pit
Pravlox - Cast grease
Copper - Hit Vamp 3 with Scorching ray
Vamp 3 - 11 damage stood up, commanded Rutter to attack copper
Rutter |
"'Keel'? What's 'keel'? Oh, 'kill'. Yeah, I can do that."
Acrobatics to get up to the ground floor: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Move action: draw kukris
Not sure if there's another will save for this new command, or if there's +2 to it if there is. If there is a new save, go ahead and roll it, and I'll adjust Rutter's demeanor if necessary. Rutter's unmodified save is +2.
Aardvark DM |
It is not his turn yet, I think it may have just been preemptive rolls. You, two vamps, Rex and Rutter all go before him. That being said, no, he cannot. He is 20' down, and you are 5' back from the hole. He would need to be 10' higher to see you.
Neva Vallastoi |
"Rutter!" Neva yelled in a shocked, scolding voice, as the halfling hopped after Copper.
Angry now, she turned her attention back to those responsible for her companion's traitorous behavior.
"The Lady will have you! I unbind your foul energies with the Her power!"
Channel Positive Energy to harm undead, DC 14 Will for half: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
Aardvark DM |
Rutter's save 1d20 + 2 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 2 + 2 = 22 (energy drain and opposed ation modifiers added)
There was something in Neva's admonition that made Rutter actually stop and take a hard look at what he was doing.
Vamp 1 save 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 = 23
Vamp 3 save 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 2 = 15
Vamp 4 save 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 2 = 25
As the positive energy rushed out of her to envelop the vampires still standing, Neva noticed that they all resisted the brunt of it. The one in cloud form in its coffin, didn't appear to even flinch from the power.
Can't access the map here at work right now, so I will post for Vamp 4 later.
Aardvark DM |
Neva's energy only sapped the extra life essence the north most vampire had stolen from Rutter, and what damage he had taken vanished as he swung at the serpentine form of Rex, just hitting him and draining life energy away as he does. The newly gained essence replenishes that which he just lost from Neva's channel.
Slam 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 plus energy drain 1 level
Round 3:
Rex - moved to P10, attacked Vamp 4
Vamp 1 - 14 damage Gaseous form, moved.
Rutter - Put away weapons
Vamp 2 - 30 damage Gaseous form, moved.
Felgar - Grappled Neva, fell into pit
Pravlox - Cast grease
Copper - Hit Vamp 3 with Scorching ray
Vamp 3 - 16 damage stood up, commanded Rutter to attack copper
Neva - Used channel energy to harm
Vamp 4 - 5 tempsAttacked Rex
Rutter |
Rutter hops up to the ground floor, draws his kukri and then sheathes them again.
"Yeah, if they don't want to stick around for the 'delectable time' I don't see why we should keel them. Or kill them, I mean."
Aardvark DM |
Rutter, you did not just save against the command, you broke the Dominate effect altogether. You are no longer dominated.
Aardvark DM |
Rex does what he can to keep his master safe, and begins biting and thrashing against the nearby vampire in hopes of drawing its attentions away. If he can keep it occupied long enough, they can escape these things. He manages to get a couple good hits on the thing, doing just enough to reinjure it after it had healed all its previous injuries.
Bite 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22, damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
tail slap 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The vampire that floated across the pit to stand safely in the corner, becomes solid once more. He seems uncertain whether to come around the pit toward them, or stay put, so he waits for now. Having already dealt with the dangerous slope of the pit, he presses himself against the wall to keep from going into it.
Reflex 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 2 = 21
Round 3:
Rutter - Put away weapons
Vamp 2 - 30 damage Gaseous form, moved.
Felgar - Grappled Neva, fell into pit
Pravlox - Cast grease
Copper - Hit Vamp 3 with Scorching ray
Vamp 3 - 16 damage stood up, commanded Rutter to attack copper
Neva - Used channel energy to harm
Vamp 4 - 2 damage Attacked Rex
Rex - Hit Vamp 4 with both attacks
Vamp 1 - 12 damage Solidified, avoided the pit.
Aardvark DM |
Realized that Rutter and Felgar have posted previous to their turns this round, I just need to update based on what they did then to reflect now.
Rutter moved up to stand beside Copper, drew his weapons, then came to his senses. Something clicked in his brain reminding him that he did not want to do what these things told him to do. Especially when it meant attacking his allies.
The vampire in cloud form in his coffin solidifies, but he remains motionless, eys closed and arms crossed. He lays peacefully snuggled in the dirt of the coffin, much like he was before Rutter even struck him the first time. Except the wounds given him during the fight are not healing, almost as if he has slipped into a state of suspension.
Felgar, draws a throwing axe to toss at Neva from the depths of the pit appearing in the floor. He lobs it blindly over the rim where the woman was standing when he had to let go to try and keep himself from tumbling in. The small axe clatters against the side of the top of the pit to fall back down beside his greataxe.
Felgar, with your throwing axe you would be attacking blindly in a sense. You can't see her from where you are. That is a good thing though. With the single-minded determination of trying to attack her, he throws (pardon the pun) rational attack methods aside.
Ranged bonus with Throwing axe +6, -4 for range, -8 for improved cover, results in a total of -6 to the roll. Yay, misses Neva
Round 4:
Pravlox - Cast grease
Copper - Hit Vamp 3 with Scorching ray
Vamp 3 - 16 damage stood up, commanded Rutter to attack copper
Neva - Used channel energy to harm
Vamp 4 - 2 damage Attacked Rex
Rex - Hit Vamp 4 with both attacks
Vamp 1 - 12 damage Solidified, avoided the pit.
Rutter - Climbed out of the cellar, drew weapons.
Vamp 2 - 30 damage Solidified, suspended state.
Felgar - Grappled Neva, fell into pit
Rutter |
"Bugger! Get out of my head!" Rutter shakes his head for effect.
"Neva! Get out of there! It's time to go!" He moves to an edge that is out of line of sight of the vampires (K10?) and prepares to help Neva climb out if she needs it.
Aardvark DM |
Pravlox you're up. Rutter is your post late for this round 4 (where you already climbed up to attack Copper), or early for round 5 (after seven others go)? I'm just trying to clarify, because where you keep posting is getting me confused.
Aardvark DM |
Pravlox decides that the others are right and it's time to cut and run. He decides to make one more pit before he scurries out of the crawlspace, risking the hit of one of the creatures by casting. As the other vampire falls into a now greased pit, he takes the opportunity to climb up out of the cellar.
Casts another create pit in N/O 8-9
Vamp 4 AoO 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Vamp 3 Ref 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3, falling damage 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Prav moves to L10
Not sure if Copper is acting or not based on his post, but it won't change Vamp 3's actions.
The vampire recently dumped into another new hole in the ground can be heard swearing in a foreign language, as regardless of tongue, angered profanity is easily recognizable.
He goes Gaseous and moves
Neva, here's your shot, vamp 4 already took an AoO, and Rex is covering the rear.
Aardvark DM |
As everyone gets out of the crawlspace, and makes their way out the hole in the wall, there can still be heard the sounds of Rex fighting to guard the escape. As you manage to get out of the alley, into the daylight of the open street, you can pause long enough to gather yourselves. Neva is certain that what she remembered about them being destroyed by sunlight was imperative. It isn't long after before Pravlox reports that Rex has been released due to his death. Sadly, there is no word of Felgar.
Where to now?
Felgar Stoutaxe |
Climb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Do I get another Will Save? If so, when? Otherwise, I imagine that I will pursue Neva until the control is broken, unless the Vamps have other ideas for me?
Aardvark DM |
Yes, but it is just part of a larger building, in a crowded portion of the city. I hope you don't intend to burn the place down?
Rutter |
No, but I was thinking about getting some crowbars, and possibly hatchets, and pulling out some boards to let the sun in. What was at the front of the building? Was it a storefront? Blacked out glass or shuttered windows?
