A Tale Of Peasants And Kings (Inactive)

Game Master Aku Warashi

”The nostalgia of things unknown, of lands forgotten or unfound, is upon me at times. Often I long for the gleam of yellow suns upon terraces of translucent azure marble, mocking the windless waters of lakes unfathomably calm; for lost, legendary palaces of serpentine, silver and ebony, whose columns are green stalactites; for the pillars of fallen temples, standing in the vast purpureal sunset of a land of lost and marvellous romance. I sigh for the strange and hidden cities of this world, with burning brazen domes and slender pinnacles of gold and copper, that pierce a heaven of heated lazuli.”

Tegan tightens her grip on her torch (she lit a new one when they arrived at the mite cave.) She walks a little closer to the companion in front of her, unsure what to think of this dark place. She doesn't say anything because she has nothing to add.

Rendyl grit his teeth as Damiel spoke to him about the kobolds, but then relaxed and let out a pent up breath. "Yes. Bad history. I'd best let you and the others make the decisions about them going forward. I'd like nothing better than to plant an arrow into every one of them, honestly." The ranger put his hand on the elf's shoulder companionably, then set to move out.

As the group made its way through the cave system, Rendyl listened to Damiel explain what he thought was coming from each direction. As Vik made the decision to go towards the known enemy, the lanky ranger nodded his approval, moving to follow though now keeping a wary watch behind them, as well.

As you move west, towards the mites, you reach a cave room where crude, wooden workbenches occupy the center, their tops strewn with various tiny tools, metal and wooden hardware, and blocks of wood. There’s a slope to the southwest, and on it a mite using a miniature catapult rigged out of bones and branches ready to fire, while a second mite, prepares to attack you, seemly charging at the party. You also you heard high-pitched cries of terror coming from somewhere ahead of you.

Rendyl slid around the others in front of him, patting Damiel on the back as he felt the elf's luck magic wash over him. Lining up a shot at the unoccupied mite, the ranger fired.

Viklop moves fiercely forward, a full swing of his weapon, albeit not beautiful or well executed, was more than enough to dispatch the mite at the makeshift catapult.

Djebelle also moves forward, weapon and shield ready to dispatch the enemy:
Atk AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Dmg: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
But the weapon goes way to far from her target, showing she’s still have a lot to learn in the martial path.

==/==

The second mite, yells in terror or defiance, hard to say, and moves toward Viklop… only to pass thru him trying to drop down from the slop into the next segment of the cave.

Atk AoO Vik: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Dmg: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

And this time, demonstrating his forms and sword skill, the swordlord easily dispatch the remaining mite.

==//==

Searching the corpses is utterly frustrating. They carry a single dagger each, bent and rust and dented. Examining the catapult and ammunition, you also notice that it would most likely offer no danger to the party.

==//==
Up close the high-pitched wails of terror from are even more noticeable, coming from the drop in the slop (another DC 5 Climb).

Looking over the bodies, Damiel snorts when all he finds are the two useless daggers on them, "junk" he says softly, just dropping them on the ground. Turning to Vik, "good work. Glad to have you in the lead. Shall we move on down the slope?"

As Vik starts forward, Damiel, leaving his longbow stowed, takes out his dagger and starts looking for traps as the group moves deeper in the lair.

A swirl of cool air lifts the escaped strands of Tegan's hair. "We... have to climb?" Tegan doesn't look too enthusiastic about the prospect. She looks at the torch she's holding, then down at her skirt and apron. She closes her eyes and sighs, time to embarrass myself again, I guess.

Tegan sets the torch against the wall and tucks her skirt into the waistband of her apron. Leaving any strap of dignity with her abandoned torch, Tegan begins to climb.

The walls of this egg-shaped cavern are obscured by thick tangles of long, pallid roots. To the east, the chamber opens into a wide, root-filled chasm.

A group of six mites are joyously tormenting a kobold. There are other three kobolds hanging limply by their bonds, dead from the mites’ torment. The last kobold shrieks in pain as the six mites take turns poking it with sharp sticks—each shriek eliciting a fresh wave of giggles and cheers from the mites.

The mites are too distracted with their fun and didn’t notice your approach.

Surprise Round:

Tegan harnesses her power from within and around her, embracing the cold like a lover. Tiny icicles grow out from the ground, cracking as the element turns solid. The small crystals lift into the air until they are Tegan's chest-level. Then, Tegan sends the ice crystal shards flying towards the mite South of Vik's target.

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 A 20! :O

*Ice* Crystal Blast: 1d4 ⇒ 2 Reflex save or entangled

Your destructive blast becomes an explosion of crystal, growing where it strikes. A crystal blast uses d4’s instead of d6’s as its damage die and deals piercing damage. The target of your crystal blast must pass a Reflex save or be entangled and unable to move. In addition, the target’s square (or the blast’s affected area) becomes overgrown with crystal and counts as difficult terrain. Breaking free of the entangled condition is a move action, requiring either a Strength check or an Escape Artist check against the crystal blast’s save DC. A target may also destroy the crystal on a square or creature by dealing 3 damage per caster level to the crystal. This removes the entangled condition from the creature and destroys the difficult terrain. Crystal disappears after 1 minute.

Meanwhile, consumed by his hatred, Rendyl ignores the mites and shoot at the kobold. Its terrified screens dies immediately, as the creature hangs limp, an arrow piecing his head.

This time, she has more time to focus since she didn't have to move.

As the elements leave her body, Tegan realizes her abilities are spent. She'll be unable to call on the cold until she rests. The elementalist looks down at her palm and watches a lingering snowflake dissolve into water.

She looks back up and grips her longspear with both hands. This will have to do. She makes what looks like a defensive pose, angling the tip of the weapon towards her foe.

The sting of the giant insect's bite is quickly dispersed by the warm feeling of healing from Djebelle. Gritting his teeth, Vik lashes out once again at the monster.

Damiel: Serendipity - All allies within range gain a +1 luck bonus to attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws.
Round 2 & 3 & 4 if needed
Damiel continues to provide serendipitous luck to the group, however as he sees Vik get wounded and only partially healed, during these times he stows his dagger and retrieves his longbow, ready to move up to the front.

Narrowly avoiding the rapidly whipping tail of the creature, Rendyl took another step back, wincing as Vik was savaged by the beast but focusing on the task at hand.

It takes a flurry of arrows, sword strikes and ice blast to put an end to the creature. With on last menacing howl, it falls into the chasm.

Djebelle takes this opportunity to heal again Viklop and Rendyl from their injuries.
Cure @Vik: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Cure @Rendyl: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
”That was too dangerous.” she whispers to Rendyl as she works her magic. ”Be a little more caferul.”

With the creature now dead, the path to the other side should now be safe. What’s the party intentions?

Quickly binding his wound, Vik continues to climb down the vines.

Rendyl sighed as the healing magic flowed through him, nodding his assent to Djebelle. He followed the swordlord down into the chasm, hoping the way up the other side was just as easy as the climb down.

The beautiful elementalist looks wearily into the pit. "Are we really going to go down there? I'm out of power until I rest." She looks down at one of her hands: "maybe I'll wait here while you scout. Just call up if there is a landing."

Viklop and Rendyl moved ahead of the group, crossing the chasm, while Tegan and the less mobile rest of the party are still struggling with the climb. What they didn’t expect, maybe, was that on the other side, there was a welcoming party waiting for them!

Rows of wooden pegs line the earthen walls, some hung with tiny, filthy cloaks. In the center of the room stands a rickety table held together with twine, covered with a filthy red-checked tablecloth and heaped with mounds of dirt and twigs and gravel, apparently arranged to form some sort of map. Sitting at the edge of the map, weighing down a scrap of paper, is a bloodstained ivory statuette of what looks like a crouching reptilian devil. A bulging burlap sack sits under the table.

There, you see four mites waving their weapons dangerously and a mite mounted on a dog-sized tick, that has a grotesquely bulbous body and a thin head equipped with hooked mandibles.

Getting to know the boss.

Notes-

Since Tegan and Djebelle have no line of sight, and doesn't know there's enemies, they don't take an action this round. Also, to cross the chasm, you need a climb DC 5, and it's treated as difficult terrain (can't run, can't take 5ft step, takes double to move across).

Action-
The trident wielding mounted mite charges forward towards the party, attacking and yelling.
Atk @Viklop: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 2 = 22
Dmg: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Piercing thru Viklop's defenses and hurting him.

While the mount attacks Rendyl biting with its mandibles.
Atk: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14
Dmg: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
But missing its target.

Meanwhile, the other four mites throw darts.

@Viklop
Atk: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 4 = 5
Dmg: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Atk: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 2 - 4 = 0
Dmg: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

@Rendyl
Atk: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 - 4 = 10
Dmg: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Atk: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 2 - 4 = 7
Dmg: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

But it's the same as nothing, since none of the mites even got close to hitting.

Everyone can post their action, intentions?

Paladin/6

Unless warned about the enemies, Tegan stands around at the top of the chasm waiting for notification. If the others call out or if she hears noises of battle, Tegan begins her descent.
