The mirror reveals that the door opens into a corridor that heads east and west. To the east it quickly turns north and out of sight, but to the west it continues for a while before opening into a larger room after about 30 feet. The room contains several large tables that have been turned over to form a rudimentary barricade. Mandraiv can see several kobolds at guard behind them who seem alert but unaware that they are being watched.

Mandraiv whispers to the rest of the group telling them what he sees.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

His eyes narrow and the barbarian licks his lips. He dries the grip on his sword and waits for the others to get ready.

Kobold barricade! Ha! This is going to be fun. Maybe they let me go first and scare the life out of those little runts. Not going to die today, well not until I face Bargle. Did he kill my girl, better not.

Male Human Warlock/3 | HP 18/18 | AC 15 | Passive Perception 13 | Initiative +2

So we've got one who wants to storm the barricade. Inputs from others?

Female High Elf Fighter/3, HP 20/28, AC: 16, Init + 4, Attack +5, Passive Perception: 14, Active Conditions: None

Aredhel nods to Mandraiv. "What choice do we have? A full scale assault with which to overwhelm them with seems out best bet."

Male Human Warlock/3 | HP 18/18 | AC 15 | Passive Perception 13 | Initiative +2

Mandraiv whispers in reply, "Ok, I'll throw the door open and move down the hall a few feet heading away from the barricade. Those who want to can then enter and charge the barricade. The rest of us will follow behind you."

When Mandraiv gets nods from the other characters indicating they are ready he implements the plan.

Sounds like we need ...

Initiative!
Aredhel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Artius: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Imsh: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Mandraiv: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Oso: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Kobolds: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

You all gain a surprise round, which means the kobolds don't act the first round.

So initiative will be: 1) Mandraiv, 2) Oso, 3) Imsh, 4) Kobolds, 5) Artius, 6) Aredhel.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Fighter/3 ; HP 16 (22); Passive Perception 14; Init +4

Are you able to update the level two map? I plan on dashing in during the surprise round and cutting off any possible path to reinforcements.

Male Human Warlock/3 | HP 18/18 | AC 15 | Passive Perception 13 | Initiative +2

Mandraiv will throw the door open and move 3 squares due north. He will stop and turn around putting his back to the east wall of the hallway. He will attempt to deal with any threat coming down the hallway from the north.

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Surprise Round

Oso runs straight round the corner towards and over the barricade. He feels the adrenalin begin to rush into his ears and blood enter the edges of his eyes, in a wild caricature of violence and calls to the kobolds behind their puny cover, "My sword is called Drinker of Blood and she thirsts for your hearts! Ha ha ha!"

If he can double move, he will attempt to leap the barricade and move against a wall, with sword and shield ready. Strength(Athletics): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Female High Elf Fighter/3, HP 20/28, AC: 16, Init + 4, Attack +5, Passive Perception: 14, Active Conditions: None

Before they agree to run around the corner, Aredhel casts True Strike on herself. Then once the others charge around the corner, she follows.

Surprise round

Aredhel follows after Oso, double moving around the barricade and up to the closest kobold.

Discord Chat

ROUND 1
Mandraiv opens the door and moves to the edge of the room to the north, keeping a close watch for anything that might come their way. For the second he has to catch his breath, he looks north but does not see anything out of the ordinary.

Oso rushes through the now-opened door heading for the barricades. Unfortunately, he does not notice the trip wire at the edge of the dining room the kobolds are occupying. As his feet snap the wire, a large, weighted net that had been concealed in the ceiling drops down. Strength save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 The weight of the net knocks the tall barbarian prone, his head colliding painfully with the flagstones of the floor. The kobolds behind the barricade shriek but then cackle, seeing the large man brought down. Oso is now prone and restrained. He can attempt to free himself by taking an action and making a Str check.

Imsh still has an action; Aredhel, you might want to reconsider, given the new situation. Artius, the only thing on the far end of the "kobold room" is a closed door that mirrors the hallway you are all coming down.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Fighter/3 ; HP 16 (22); Passive Perception 14; Init +4

Bolting around the corner after the rest of the party, Artius darts down the corridor and into the barricaded room, startling the kobolds as he leaps past them, taking up position in front of the door to cut off any retreat.

Using the dash action I can move eighty feet, ignoring difficult terrain (Oso, perhaps :p) and not provoking any opportunity attacks. If I see any more trip wires or other traps, I'll attempt to leap over them, rather than slowing down.

As before, if I'm hit for five or more damage, I'll parry as a reaction. If I'm missed, I'll use riposte.

Female High Elf Fighter/3, HP 20/28, AC: 16, Init + 4, Attack +5, Passive Perception: 14, Active Conditions: None

Was waiting on Imsh, but I'll go ahead and declare.

Aredhel curses under her breath as she sees Oso go down, and stops to help cut the net away.

Move action up to Oso, then attack the net to cut Oso out of it - and if possible haul him to his feet!

1/2 Orc Cleric/3 ; HP 28 (28); AC: 18; Passive Perception 13; Init +1

Sorry internet was down...then site was down...will catch up now!!

Seeing Oso caught under the heavy net, Imsh stops and conjures a glowing bolt of energy that he sends at the Kobolds.

Guiding Bolt: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 3, 4) = 16

"May the might of Gorum smite you all and leave us victorious over your smoldering bodies!"

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Thrashing away at the net, proves a disaster, the cackling kobolds make matters worse and soon he is almost immobile. The eyes go back and Oso roars in anger.

Discord Chat

Imsh's guiding bolt hits one of the kobolds hiding behind the improvised barricade in the head, causing it to explode and shower blood and brain matter upon his shocked companions.

Artius then takes advantage of their distraction and dashes past them to stand in front of the room's western exit. Now fully in the room, he sees that there are eight kobolds crouching behind the turned-over table. He can also see that he is not, in fact standing in front of the only exit. There are two other doors along the southern wall, which had been blocked from view earlier. The one closest to him (the western one) is closed, but the other one is open. While he was rushing by he caught a glimpse of at least to four or five more kobolds in that room.

Aredhel slashes at the net around Oso, 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7, but has to check her swing at the last moment to not take his head off as the Garundi man thrashes with rage.

ROUND 2
Initiative: 1) Mandraiv, 2) Oso, 3) Imsh, 4) Kobolds, 5) Artius, 6) Aredhel
Mandraiv, Oso, and Imsh are up, followed by the kobolds. Oso and Aredhel are in the corridor on the edge of the room, Imsh is standing behind them, while Mandraiv is around the corner in the first square north of the corridor. Artius is, of course, in the room with at least 12 kobolds within view who all go before him :(

Female High Elf Fighter/3, HP 20/28, AC: 16, Init + 4, Attack +5, Passive Perception: 14, Active Conditions: None

Aredhel had true strike cast, so this is her second roll for the net.

Attack net: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 4) + 3 = 12

If that hit last round, then this round she moves to attack the closest kobold. If possible, she places herself so as to flank and gain a to hit bonus. Please add that to the roll below if so!

Attack kobold: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 1) + 3 = 8

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Round 2

Now that Oso is getting help, he struggles to remain this side of rage. Keeps telling himself that the strength sapping energy must be saved. Conserved against the fights to come.

The warrior tries to pull at the small opening Aredhel has made, hoping to get out soon.

Escape by strength 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

However kobold nets are filled with barbs that catch and tear, someone has spent far too long making this net for him to escape easily.

That roll cuts through the rope, releasing Oso from his captivity.

Aredhel moves into the room, which is overflowing with kobolds. Her movements are so restricted in here, that the swing with her mighty greatsword only connects with the wall.

Oso, since you were freed at the end of Round 1, you will want to repost your actions.

Mandraiv moves 5 feet or so to where he can see into the room and casts an Eldritch Blast at a kobold.

Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

And misses rather badly.

Moving forward into the sea of small, reptilian bodies, Imsh gives out a roaring challenge and swings his flail.

ROUND 2

Mandraiv's bolt goes wide, but its closeness elicits another shriek from the kobolds. Imsh crowds up to the improvised barricade, swinging his flail, but catches only the edge of the table. The weapon ricochets off and causes the half-orc to grab on tight, lest it jump out of his hands.

Oso can still post an amended action for Round 2, after which the kobolds will swarm and then the remaining to can go.

Oso struggles to his feet and carries on moving round and into the chamber towards Aredhel, since he owes the him.

Apologies for the absence. Busy weekend of Easter/Passover family-work hijinx.

ROUND 2 CONT.

The four kobolds toward the back of the room scream as Artius jumps over them to block one of the exits. They quickly grab their daggers, turn and rush the surrounded fighter. The Chelaxian is sliced by tiny blades, that slowly sap his strength and are quite painful.

Kobolds have a trait called pack tactics, where they get advantage when there is another kobold within 5' of them; that's every kobold in this room (it's not a big room).
kobold1 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
kobold1 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
kobold1 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

kobold2 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
kobold2 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
kobold2 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

kobold3 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
kobold3 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
kobold3 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

kobold4 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
kobold4 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
kobold4 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Artius, from what you said, it looks like neither the parry (because none did 5 or more points of damage) or the riposte is triggered (because they all hit you). If you want to use parry on one of them, let me know, and it will apply to the attack from kobold number 1d4 ⇒ 1. If you parry that attack you take 10 hp of damage, if you don't, you take a total of 12 hp this round.

The other four kobolds pull their daggers and attack Aredhel and Oso, who are both standing before them.

kobold5 on Aredhel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
kobold5 on Aredhel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
kobold5 damage on Aredhel: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

kobold6 on Aredhel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
kobold6 on Aredhel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
kobold6 damage on Aredhel: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

kobold7 on Oso: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
kobold7 on Oso: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
kobold7 damage on Aredhel: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

kobold8 on Oso: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
kobold8 on Oso: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
kobold8 damage on Oso: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

That looks like two misses on Aredhel and two hits on Oso. Oso, I wasn't sure whether you are raging or not, so factor that in for the damage. As for spacing, the room is now almost full. Either Imsh or Mandraiv can enter it to make melee attacks, but not both.

The party is up!

Male Human Warlock/3 | HP 18/18 | AC 15 | Passive Perception 13 | Initiative +2

Mandraiv will remain outside the room making small moves as he needs to in order to get a better shot at a kobold. He will target one of the kobolds in the room with an eldritch blast.

Attack roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 4

1/2 Orc Cleric/3 ; HP 28 (28); AC: 18; Passive Perception 13; Init +1

Imsh again swings his flail at the kobolds.

Attack-melee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Attack-melee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Female High Elf Fighter/3, HP 20/28, AC: 16, Init + 4, Attack +5, Passive Perception: 14, Active Conditions: None

Aredhel manages to keep the kobolds at bay with sweeps of her sword, but the close confines prevent her from truly extending and utilizing it's range. Instead, she brings the blade close and uses it more like a spear, jabbing out with the tip at the closest kobold as she begins to sing an elvish dirge of war.

"Aa' menle nauva calen ar' ta hwesta e' ale'quenle, Aa' menealle nauva calen ar' malta, Cormamin niuve tenna' ta elea lle au'."

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Male Human (Chelaxian) Fighter/3 ; HP 16 (22); Passive Perception 14; Init +4

Cursing his impetuous rush into the room only to find himself surrounded, Artius gives Aredhel a rueful glance across the crowded room. He knows the more cautious elven warrior would never have got herself into such a predicament. Slashing left and right as the swarming reptilians press in, he tries desperately to cut them down as his allies fight their way towards him.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1d8 ⇒ (5) + 6 + (5) = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Offhand Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Action Surge Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

I'll focus my attacks on the first kobold until he dies, then any remaining attacks on the second and so on. I'm using my action surge plus making a precision attack and will definitely parry the first kobold to hit me next round.

Looks like 5 damage to kobold1 and if he's still up, another 7 (or 7 damage on kobold2)

Discord Chat

Mandraiv's bolt nearly knocks down one of kobolds attacking Imsh, Oso, and Aredhel, but he picks himself up and gets back into the fight. Imsh widely swings his flail but fails to hit any of the dextrous humanoids. Try as she might, Aredhel's weapon simply seems to large in the small confines of the room, and her wide movements give the kobolds ample time to move out of the way. Across the room, Artius has a bit more luck as he cuts down two of the kobolds he is facing.

Kobold 5: 4 hp damage; kobold 1 & 2 down

Oso is up!

Barbarian (berserker) 3; Init +1; AC18; Hp 36/41; Saves Str +5, Con +7; Passive Perception 9

Oso was in process of raging when he realised that Aredhel had cut the net, freeing him. So he isn't raging now and takes full damage, 4 points.

The barbarian attacks the nearest kobold, slicing his sword horizontally across at neck level.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

ROUND 3

Oso's swing neatly takes off the kobold's head, which bounces comically off the head of one of its compatriots, eliciting a slight shriek from the others.

The kobolds attacking Artius continue slicing at the fighter's legs, trying desperately to hit an artery or something else vital.

kobold 3 attack on Artius: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

The three kobolds in the room to the south (who are wearing better armor and seem to be equipped with larger weapons) by this point have grabbed their armaments, and are knocking arrows to wicked-looking shortbows. One of them is noticeably larger than the rest, and barks out short commands at the other three in Draconic. "Target the one without the armor before he kills us all!"

Presuming that's enough to kill both kobolds near me, I'll then crouch down behind barricades, if possible. Taking cover from those in the southerly room and preparing to switch weapons next round. If the 13 is a miss, I'll stay where I am and be ready to parry again next round.

Mandraiv knocks out the kobold he had targeted earlier with his eldritch bolt. Oso takes off the weapon arm of a kobold, who hemorrhages blood over the flagstone floor. Artius artfully parries the kobold's dagger thrust, then plunges his blade into two more of the shrieking creatures, ending their lives. He then puts his back against the southern wall, well out of sight of the bow-wielding kobolds in the other room. Imsh's first attack knocks the kobold before him over, and a second blow crushes its head.

Seeing that all the kobolds around her are dead or dying, Aredhel charges into the next room where she has considerably more space. Her blade swings true, and inflicts a mortal wound on one of the bow-wielding kobolds.

Kobolds 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 are all down.

Now confronted by a well-armed melee fighter, the two remaining bow-wielders drop her weapons and draw short-swords and swing at the elf, all the while receiving stern commands from the kobold commander behind them. The creatures are obviously highly trained to work in pairs or group, and seamlessly assist one another.

I believe Aredhel is down at -5?

This is 5E. If you're down you're at 0 and rolling to see if you stay alive. Rolling a natural 20 would be a good idea. :-)

Mandraiv pokes his head around the corner of the hallway and fires off a bolt at the nearest guard. Oso follows this up by a brutal slice to his midsection. He is able to twist out of the way at the last minute, which saves him from having his belly sliced open.

Imsh and Artius are up!

Remaining in the first room, Artius sheathes his swords and readies his crossbow.

Don't roll a 1 we've seen far too many of them in our home games.

Imsh, seeing Aredhel go down, moves towards her, a prayer of healing on his lips and hand outstretched to apply the curative.
