Well, against my better judgement, here goes.
diplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17
This seems just like the kind of obstacle the cultists need! Are you aquainted with the deeds of the Rune Lords? And how about Lassala?
What is your name? Mine is Buchart!
Buchart is feeling some sort of odd kinship with this entity, but has no idea why!

![]() |

Buchart feels the being is not trying to deceive, but seems anxious and doubts your words. And is preparing for your attack.
Kyra says "I am a cleric of the Dawnflower, Serenrae. I am going to lay my weapon at my feat and cast Zone of Truth. There will be no lies between us."
She sets her mace down gently. The Angel nods, but keeps a close eye with one hand on his mace. Kyra casts zone of truth.

Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Area 20-ft.-radius emanation
Duration 1 min./level
Saving Throw Will negates; Spell Resistance yes
Creatures within the emanation area (or those who enter it) can't speak any deliberate and intentional lies. Each potentially affected creature is allowed a save to avoid the effects when the spell is cast or when the creature first enters the emanation area. Affected creatures are aware of this enchantment. Therefore, they may avoid answering questions to which they would normally respond with a lie, or they may be evasive as long as they remain within the boundaries of the truth. Creatures who leave the area are free to speak as they choose.

The will was just for Zone of Truth by the way. If you rolled less than 17 you can not lie.
The Angel speaks "I would question you now. Remove your magic items and leave them at your feat so I can be sure you are truthful. I will not attack you if your intentions are just. "
Kyra looks to you for direction.
I dont want the NPC to determine how your party reacts.

You kept us in suspense! I would have forgone a save from/allowed Kyra's spell anyway. Is the angel in the AoE of the zone?
I feel that the zone of truth should be an indicator enough of our truthfulness and our intentions. I for one cannot tell a lie right now! After all, for all we know you could be our immediate antagonist and prey Noroth Balam! Will you put your weapon down? Will you promise that your intentions are pure? You won't even tell us your name or enter the zone of truth!

![]() |

Yes he is in the Aoe. The back party members may be just outside
"You may call me Rogziel. My conditions to pass into the temple are thus. Remove your magic items and lay them at your feet. Voluntarily submit to a decern lies spell. Drop any magical protections you may have cast, so I can ascertain your true intentions. If your intentions are true you should have no fear."

We have no idea if he allowed the spell to effect him or not though, so we might not be any further advanced than we were before the spell! That mace looks more like a morningstar! OUCH!!! Reluctantly, Buchart will put his sword down.
When you remove your armor and drop your weapon I'll proceed with some of my other gear! You are welcome to see if I am lying!

![]() |

Will Kyra submit and would someone accompany her inside? The rest could wait here ready for anyone who comes back out.
I for one won't be going in unless we all do. If we have to kill Rogziel, and if he is as he says, it would be a great loss, but he is in between us and the bad guys! Unless he lets me cast invisibility and fly, then I might go in solo for a scouting jaunt!

Buchart confirms the Angel cast Discern Lies
Kyra finishes removing all her magic and armor while Rogziel hovers still keeping a keen eye on your movements.
He ignores Buchart's request to lay his weapon down.
The Angel casts a spell on Kyra (KN Spellcraft to determine)
"Cleric, Do you have any spells cast on yourself?
Kyra replies
"No, I do not have any spells cast on myself only Zone of Truth in the area which I cast moments ago."
"Why are you here?"
"Rogziel, My name is Kyra a cleric of Sarenrae, the most beloved Dawnflower, the Healing Flame, and the Everlight. We are here to prevent a great evil from being released on the lands. Others have entered this temple. They are evil cultists of an ancient God, Lassala. They wish to raise the Runelord Krune and we can not allow that to happen. He is an ancient being of tremendous power who would devastate the lands destroy cities and kill or enslave the peoples. By the Dawnflower our mission is a just cause please let us pass."
GM Stuff KR: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (13) + 23 = 36
GM Stuff KR: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (20) + 23 = 43
"Are you her to loot the temple?"
"No our mission is to find tokens which the cultists will use to Raise Krune, we must prevent them from acquiring them. We are not looters!"
GM Stuff SM: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (6) + 27 = 33
Rogziel, seems satisfied.
"Kyra, I appreciate your honesty. You may reclaim your possessions and enter."
He points at Buchart
"Now you."

![]() |

Okay! Okay! I'm not here to loot the temple, only the cultists!
Stop concentrating on detect magic. Remove breastplate and ring of counterspells, then lay them down. I forgot to ask about the mace. That's what the knowledge arcana roll was for. I meant to write it, but my pants were on fire.
Once again, though, what's someone like you doing guarding this evil place?

![]() |

Buchart do you have any spells cast on you?
He casts dispel magic on you.-Posted with Wayfinder
No buffs. Now I'm glad we didn't do it. Probably be a different situation if we had!
No, I have no spells cast at the moment. I do however have this brand that was put on me by some other cultist from a slightly different group with the same aim. It has actually aided me against them, though. And, as I said, we're only here for the cultists and to prevent certain disaster.

![]() |

Thank you, oh brave sentinel Rogziel! Oh, by the way, did the last group that came through here have these?
I show him my wayfinder. I gather my possessions and rearm myself. Is my brand still intact? If not, I will pull the iron from the BoH as soon as we are out of site of Rogziel and redo it! Also, I think we just reduced our take on this expedition considerably since we aren't going to loot the temple. We can, though garner quite a bit of fame for securing the temple for the Society!

Since it's been a while since we had any gratuitous Sekkim nudity, Sekkim will take off all his magic items. That leaves his pants and his sash/belt. He'll add those to the top of the pile, look the angel in the eye, and cheerfully answer his questions.
((I do have a supernatural Physical Enhancement ability that boosts one physical ability score (right now Dexterity). It doesn't say I can turn it off.))

![]() |

With that the angel finishes asking his questions and you finish answering truthfully. You are allowed to pass having proven you are not looters, or thieves. He thanks you for your honesty.
"you may have these trinkets for answering my questions and avoiding a conflict.". He hands you a small bag of gems and another Q&A ended with Sekkimm the nature boy.
