I will say your interpretation and expectations of how to play PbP are not in line with mine.
I happen to believe in #3.
Truthfully I see the 'never split the party' as a cardinal rule of gaming, and the fact that I was willing to do so says mounds.
Neri, if you did not already get the idea that at least Sterling and I split the party because you annoy the heck out of us, then I better be blunt about it- THAT'S WHY WE SPLIT-YOU ANNOY US.
This also should explain why we find you poking in here less than desirable. If we put our characters in a great deal of danger to be away from yours, you might want to consider or maybe even respect that.
Honestly, I'd rather just bail on this game than continue to interact with you (I have plenty of others, and while I will miss the game, it's just one among many at this point).

First: Last post here unless otherwise requested by the DM.
Alright. Sorry Sterling, I didn't mean to 'argue' only to have a conversation about gaming philosophies. Reducing conflict was the entire goal, and having someone else say 'I agree' is more than enough for me to cease attempts to be friendly. I'm not one of those people who stand at a door and knock repeatedly until you answer me. I felt that understanding your beliefs and mine more thoroughly would lead to a lot less conflict.
Harry, though, I have done nothing at all to draw your ire from my perspective. I've even tried to approach you and asked you to talk to me if you had problems. The fact that you did not lead me to believe that we were cool. I'm sorry you feel the way you do, but there is nothing I can do for it if you won't talk to me about the issues. The only thing I know of to do with the current situation is to simply stop posting over here, as two of the four active players in this particular thread have requested. I'm sorry we couldn't make a better attempt to work things out. Is there anything in particular that you felt was a problem you could not overcome?
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
Sorry Sterling, I didn't mean to 'argue' only to have a conversation about gaming philosophies
Oh, I DID expect conflict. I expected Neri's anger to put him in a bad situation. I expected him to have to run, even. I never -once- expected the entire party (save Jacob) to back up an obviously bad call. The character made a bad decision, and he should have been punished for it. He should have been made to explain himself if he even survived. The fact that people just blamed him in character (and possibly out) while trying to avoid conflict lead to a very very poor resolution. Everyone went away dissatisfied.
Last one. I just want to get this straight. Your gaming philosophy is to start conflict, then blame the rest of the group for a bad resolution, because we were dumb enough to help your character? wow...really, just wow
Pathfinder Zoey |
Wait I'm confused again,
Harry if you belive so strongly in never splitting the party why were you so quick to do it?
Harry I've never really seen you talk to Neri the player much, what did he do to annoy you?
Neri I understand you feel your actions about attacking were IC but to me that seems a bit much for an average person to risk their life for a complete stranger, I've heard it happen but is Neri really that uncaring of his life over others?
mdt |
Well now.
This was a very fun thing to read today while sitting in the waiting room while my wife was operated on to do corrective surgery on her foot.
I'm quite at a loss, this is the first game I've had in 23 years of running games where the players exploded at each other (not counting the time two guys dated the same girl gamer and nearly had a fist fight over it, at least that one I understand). Exploding at me, I've had happen plenty, I'm not a saint. But at each other.. yeah, first for me. Especially this fast.
It leaves me in a huge lurch as the GM. I have two groups, in the same world, interacting with the same NPCs, and not wanting to have anything to do with each other.
I had hoped that seperating the two groups for a bit would calm things down. It hasn't.
I'm too tired today (been up for 19 hours) and in too much pain (threw out my back lifting my wife up and down multiple times gettng her home and into the upstairs bedroom).
I'll try to figure out what to do in the next day or two, until then, games are on pause while I figure out how to handle this.
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
Sorry that this adds to your sucky day. I made my best attempt at addressing the issues of conflict per Neri's request, but we can't seem to see eye to eye.
As much as I hate to leave such a well constructed world/mystery. I don't feel good about someone being forced out.
I will withdraw. The situation is such, that character death would be a viable solution in game.
Good luck to all.
Thanks
mdt |
That's actually not being helpful anyway, as it still leaves the game in a lurch. If you just don't like the game, that's fine. I never want people to play if they don't like my GMing style or the game they are in.
Additionally, it kind of screws over Kong, who split off with you.
I've been thinking most of the night (Couldn't sleep much of the night, due to my back). I'm going to separate the games into two different tables that have nothing to do with each other going forward. I'm going to recruit 2 to 4 new players to take the place of other cast members going forward.
Unless of course you two are just not interested in playing, in which case, then I'll close up this table. But I think the way to go forward is split and recruit.
mdt |
Alright, in that case, I just need to know which group Kong would like to go with, this group or the other group. No judgements either way. Game will resume after we have at least 4 players in each group.
'Kong' Groder |
Kong originally went this way not because of disagreements IC, but because he felt that this was the direction with promise.
Right now, I see things a bit differently, though.
Once Kong kills the soldier he's facing, he's gone.
If he runs across anyone that looks like either character in the future, he may just kill them first.
'Kong' Groder |
Can I go ahead and deal with this soldier, then make for the wall, so we can get the game moving again?
'Kong' Groder |
Cool. Thanks.
Luna R. |
Just checking in - haven't created my profile for this alias yet, but i will get that done later tonight. Having oral surgery tomorrow so might be a bit out of things... we'll see if I can post or not on whatever pain meds they give me, lol... I should be fine by saturday though.
Luna R. |
thanks!
Luna R. |
Thanks - I think I've got her profile prett much done... That pm with any equipment that isn't on the list I've already got would be great - along with maybe her background, which I can't seem to find anywhere. Maybe with a brief recap of how she got where she is/how she got to be mythic, and maybe a recap of any relations she already has with characters at table B, if any... thsnks - a pm would be fine for all this stuff.
mdt |
I'll get a PM out by tomorrow, I'm buried at work, I'm only able to get a few posts in here and there, all short. Usually during meetings when I'm just listening. Plus I'm still under the weather.
Expect PMs and the game to start up Saturday afternoon, instead of tonight.
mdt |
Posting in all my game threads.
Sorry about this week, between illness, wife's ongoing recovery requirements, and work hitting me between the eyes with a mallet, this week is very busy and tiring. It'll probably be Saturday afternoon before I get any major updates out in any games.
I've been grabbing low-hanging fruit where I can (quick posts and updates). And I've been spotty about double checking each thread to make sure it's moving along. My apologies on that. I'll go through each one with a fine tooth comb Saturday.
Luna R. |
no problem, mdt, take whatever time you need... family and work (ie, real life) have to come first.
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
Hi mdt,
I know you are busy, so no rush. I just want to make sure you are not waiting for a post from Harry or me.
mdt |
I'm burried in work today, so posting may be sporadic. Especially PM responses. No, it's me you're waiting on. I had a game yesterday (as in 6 people over) that took up all afternoon/evening. Had planned to post this morning, but boom, production emergency as soon as I wake up.
Luna R. |
ok.. I read ALL of group A from pg 1 to 27 or so when the groups split up, so I'm pretty sure I have a grasp of Luna and her background from start of game til now...
mdt - I did make some changes to Luna's character sheet to make the character more in line with my playing style and such. I hope that's alright with you. Please let me know if anything doesn't fit with either the world or whatever.
As an introduction to the other players... Hi again...
I am 62 yr old experienced girl gamer geek. I've been playing for 40 years (started in 1974 with original D&D). I was introduced to gaming by playing in a demo game at Equicon in 1974 and have been playing steadily ever since. I must admit that D&D was probably the reason it took me an extra year to graduate with my BA, and an extra 2 yrs to get my MA... I was a total gaming geek and addict in the 70's.
My gaming style is kinda laid back. I don't like interparty squabbling ic or ooc and will do my best to avoid them, even to the point of evading issues if that will keep the bickering to a minimum. I don't like personal conflict. I may have dark thoughts from time to time, but I will keep them to myself, put on my big girl panties, and get over them.
I am retired from the corporate world, so I have plenty of time for gaming, both online and face to face. My regular Saturday group meets 10:30am til whenever (usually about 3 or 4pm) pacific time so posting may be slow during those times. I also need studio time to create (I am a working artist), and will go a hours without a post while I'm in my studio. Sorry about those dark periods, but we all have lives, right? However when I'm just kicking back, I can post frequently, as my laptop is always with me when I'm relaxing in front of the television, for example.
When I travel, which is fairly frequently... at least once or twice a month, I will post my travel schedule, so you'll know not to expect posts during transit periods. I ONLY use hotels with free wifi, so I will always post by sometime in the evening, regardless of my daytime activities.
My whole philosophy of gaming is that it is a social activity, and everyone is entitled to have a good time while doing so. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I also want to have a good time too, so I think we owe to each other as players to support and encourage each other in whatever we do in game. It's okay to disagree, but be open to changing opinions, or even just acquiescing when necessary to keep the game progressing with cohesion. I just want everyone to enjoy the experience, even if I'm not the GM.
Sorry to hear you are planning on leaving, Kong, I surely wish you'd reconsider, but i understand if you won't.
Of course all of this is a moot point if we all die as a result of this. I hope we don't, but we'll see. I can see why those who read the threads in advance all opted for table A, lol... but I was intrigued by Luna's character more than anything else, so here I am. I hope we all make it.
Good to meet you all and may good gaming commence.
'Kong' Groder |
I'm not leaving the game, just moving to game A.
I got very tired of the squabbling - especially when it had to some degree had been b&+@%ing about Neri attacking someone who would have killed us if we didn't kill him first, and then the same people dragged me into a fight that wasn't ours, at terrible odds, after saying they wouldn't...
...and then suggesting that maybe they should just quit the game, AFTER I decided to rescue them and got involved after all.
So...sorry we won't be gaming together, but I didn't just decide to quit.
Luna R. |
ok... if maybe the groups meet up again at some time, it would be fun to game with you - I really enjoyed reading your character's posts in the ic room. Of course it would be odd to have 2 Lunas meet each other, so not sure how mdt would handle that if there were to be a meeting of groups, but I hope it happens. ENjoy table A!!
mdt |
Also,
everyone will begin to realize the following over the four months.
The voices seem to be almost alzheimerian. That is, at times they seem to be completely clear and lucid, while at other times they just go off on their own, or go silent, or don't respond to questions or stimuli. These happen to varying degrees.
When just naturally responding to what is going on around them, they seem the most coherent and lucid. Answering questions seems to almost confuse them, as if they are not used to being asked questions, or as if the questions themselves are so odd they get lost in their own thoughts.
They also seem to have very vague notions of anything beyond the wall. Nor can they be accessed beyond the wall.
Luna's voice seems to be the most consistently stable and coherent and lucid. On the other hand, it seems to be the one least likely to actually engage in conversation. Paul's is a close second behind Luna's, but also seems to just flat out ignore questions it doesn't want to answer, but at least it's polite about ignoring those questions.
Sterling's seem to be the worst off, going off on tangents and rants and raves for little reason and with little reason. It readily respond to questions, but often with a rant or with what seems to be information that is either out of date or flat out wrong. This is especially true about the world.
Harry's voice is in the middle, it usually responds lucidly as long as it's not asked for specifics about itself, or the others. If asked it's opinion on something going on, for example, it appears to be able to respond just fine and lucidly usually with insight. But asked about why it thinks that and it becomes irritated and flustered, as if it's angry. Not at Harry, but at itself almost, for not knowing the answer.
In all cases, pushing the voices too hard makes them stop responding, and results in a major headache for the individual in question.
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
I have leveled up and retrained to gestalt with Adept.
@Paul
What second level spells do you have in your spellbook. I'd like to see if I could copy a few for my formula book.
@mdt
Sterling will be spending off time with the villagers. Doing what he can to slowly gain trust. He will specifically build a playground for the children, using his engineering skills to create sturdy swing set, monkey bars and merry go round. Eventually, he will begin to ask questions about Mahb and her families powers, especially Servitrix Sedania.
mdt |
Sedania, you find out, was the Servitrix that ordered the tongue cut out of Mahb's daughter and grandson. Mahb remembers her coming to Demonreach when she was a child. Mahb was a child, not the Servitrix.
She is a young woman, late teens, early twenties. Attractive, athletic looking. She wears light woven metal armor and carries a pair of swords similar to the one that Jacob uses. Her eyes are blood red orbs with no pupils, and there are bloody red tear tracks down her face. Her hair is white, and seems to move on it's own when she uses her powers.
When asked about powers, she hems and haws, and declaims to have no real powers, just a few tricks. Her mute daughter she admits to having only spirits who pay attention when she talks. When asked how she talks without a tongue, she shrugs, and mentions that that is why only the spirits can hear her when she talks, for her tongue is only a ghost, so only spirits would hear it.
Despite her admirable ability to dissemble, Sterling senses a combination of distrust and ignorance behind the dissembling. She and the daughter likely don't know how or why they can do what they can do, given the sheltered upbringing.
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
unless Paul tells me otherwise...I'll copy a few of his spells to my formula book
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
mdt...I believe I've got everything squared away with spells, skills and equipment. Let me know if I missed anything.
Paul H. |
@Sterling All my second level spells are in my profile other than any I choose for 4th level. You are welcome to any there. If you want something in particular I may choose it for 4th level if I want it as well.
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
Its a kind offer, but the picks from your current list are good for me. I just wish I had more AOE spells available. Adept at least gives me access to web :)
Paul H. |
At this level AOEs are pretty much cones. Burning hands and Color Spray being the common ones. The problem with web is you need something to anchor it to, otherwise it's no good.
I should be leveled up now. Went with Scorching Ray and See Invisibility as new 2nd level spells.
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
@mdt
just for fun, sterling will be using his new adept powers to detect evil/good/chaos/law on the villagers over time
mdt |
Mostly they don't have any auras.
Mabh has a faint chaos aura.
The Peacekeeper has a faint law aura.
Krona has a faint lawful and evil aura.
Arna has a faint chaos aura.
Krona seems to take a strong dislike to Sterling when she notices him doing this. Henceforth, she'll start off as unfriendly in all dealings with him.
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
Loot:
11 MW Full plate = 1 MW Full plate + 500 lbs of high quality steel
11 MW Long Sword
10 MW Dagger -> 1 dagger to Sterling
gold : total 83 coins of various sizes.
silver : total 103 coins of various sizes.
copper : total of 283 coins of various sizes.
=96.13 gp
8 flint and steels
48 trail rations
miscellaneous jewelry (rings, pendants, clasps) gp value?
Sterling will take 1 MW dagger
mdt |
Jewelry is probably worth around 250 to 275 gp, roughly. Based on what the villagers tell you, but that's highly suspect. It's what you'd get for it in Demonreach.
Also Sterling,
Your diplomatic efforts are making headway with most of the villagers. They still don't trust the lot of you, but they're talking, which is more than they did before. It just takes time to get an entire group of people to go from openly hostile to neutral to liking you.
I only point out the ones that are going in the opposite direction so you are aware they are not improving. Plus so you can pick up on social cues you might not be aware of otherwise, like people not liking being 'pinged' by alignment radar.
Sterling "lumpy" Lumpkin |
I will ask Mahb to build a Doctor office for me, that I will visit to take care of village ailments as often as I can
