number of spells in Spell Book / Level

Advice

creating a replacement character at higher levels, what is a good value of spells contained in the spellbook?
3+Intmod+2/lvl is minimum, but what os a good value to actually have?
or is it just a matter of allocating recources spent on coppying and transcribing scrolls?
NPC codex and other sources I‘ve seen only list „spells prepared“

could just go with base line and spend part of the resources by level on additional spells

I agree with Scrapper. Appropriate is whatever you have as a baseline (from additional spells learned each level), and any extra spells should have been paid for at some point. As for how many, I think that depends in part on the character. A universalist wizard dedicated to studying the true nature of magic probably wants as many spells as he can get (in multiple spellbooks?), while a professional transmuter might have what he can get of his preferred type of spell, plus a few staples for daily convenience in his region. (If you live in a tall tower, prepare Fly. If you live in a hot zone, Endure Elements. And so on.)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Just spend some of your WBL on a blessed book, it will save you a lot of the hassle of acquiring new spells as well as give you a bunch to start.
