[PFS] Making it Work- Samsaran Paladin

Advice

Grand Lodge

Greeting all, I've recently acquired a Samsaran race boon, and contemplating what to eventually build with it.
Looking through my character list, of 16 characters, I don't have a Paladin. So, let's change that- Help me make a flavorful Samsaran Paladin.

Some crazy ideas involve a Umbral Summoner [Mesmerist] build with a Dusk Knight dip, an Invigorator/(Bard/Skald) support build, a Grey Paladin or even a Tortured Crusader ranged build.

I'm leaning more towards the Tortured Crusader idea, as a backstory foundation for roleplay purposes- in her previous life, she was tortured and killed by [who knows what], her past life still haunts her.
Too bad i can't match it with the Grey Paladin archetype.

Invigorator support is a close second...

Tortured Crusader
10 St/14 Dex/12 Con/12 Int/18 Wis/10 Cha

Invigorator (4)/(Bard/Skald X)
10 Str/14 Dex/12 Con/13 Int/12 Wis/15 Cha

Of those two I 4000% suggest the bard route.
The full paladin you have there is a useless character that will just sit there. The second at least gets inspire courage or rage to try and help contribute to the party after sitting around for a few levels.

So unless you can provide how it won't be useless I suggest thinking if you're okay with being useless or not to decide if this is the right way to go with the samsaran.

Fun with Samsaran Bard/Paladins:
Take a bard level at first. For the purposes of Mystic Past Life, this is your "current spellcasting class" so you can add any arcane spells to the Bard list
Next, progress in paladin until you have access to Unsanctioned Knowledge. This allows you to take spells from the bard list, and by extension and planning, any arcane spell of 4th or lower.

Looking at list of possible Bard archetypes, I'm looking at the Mute Musician archetype, as i get MORE SPELLS at second level of MM Bard.

I also have a Fighting Off Corruption: Lycanthropy boon I'm looking into adding to this character's flavor.

The Tortured Crusader doesn't need to be a ranged combatant.
I was thinking about maybe dipping as a Tortured Crusader 4/Hexenhammer [Inquisitor] X.

With this build, i could possibly steal Detect Evil with MPL though the Inquisitor spell list.

Stats: 16(15) Str/12 Dex/12 Con/13 Int/14(16) Wis/10 Cha

Use that Trait to swap Int for Cha for a single skill, so i could try the Hexenhammer's Demoralizing-Evil Eye.

As for the Invigorator/Mute Musician, that one I'd need help planning out.

Stats above the same unless you'd recommend otherwise.

I was also thinking about making this one a Sweettalker, lips stitched prevent her from speaking, so she'd use Perform (Dance, Wind/String).
I think i'd be laughable, she's have the Comprehend Language spell-like ability once-a-day but no way to convey the information to her friends/allies.

I'm thinking of leaving the Hexenhammer/Tortured Crusader for another build, so i'm more interested in making the Invigorator/Mute Musician build work.

Help me figure out what spells to take with MPL and Unsanctioned Knowledge.

Question-

Do i only get access to those spells when i get to an appropriate Paladin level?

If that's the case, would it be better to go more Paladin vs Bard?

The Mute Musician, at second level, can pull a a couple spells or Abjuration/conjuration (Calling/summoning/teleportation) to their spell list.

I could go Bard 2/Paladin X. Bard 5 for IC+2 is a bit of a stretch.

ART- Mystic Past Life (spell?)
Traits: Blessed Touch [+1 hp w/ spells or abilities.], Maestro of Society [+3 rds of BP]

It would be fun to snag Path of Glory, and Greater PoG at one point.

I am liking the idea of this build and would still greatly appreciate any tips and guidance on making this build worthwhile.

The Exchange

I'm not actually sure that Haywire's idea works. Mystic past life would add to your bard spell list but not to the bard spell list, which is where Unsanctioned Knowledge draws from. It may seem like splitting hairs but I wouldn't try it in Organized Play.

In a home game I'd probably allow it. (And personally I'd probably end up taking bard spells with Unsanctioned Knowledge anyway.)

From what I'm reading/understanding-
Samsaran's Mystic Past Life gives me bonus spells from a similar spell list, equal to the class's modifier. In this case, Bard = Arcane = Charisma or Paladin = Divine = Wisdom.
Unsanctioned Knowledge allows the Paladin to pull a few more spells from other classes.

I could make the Paladin/Bard build-
10 Str/12 Dex/12 Con/13 Int/14 Wis/16 Cha

Get three additional spells onto my Bard list with Mystic Past Life, Second level of Mute Musician gets two more spells; when/if i take Unsanctioned Knowledge- some songs would be added to my Paladin spell list, so i could use them as scrolls/wands without UMD.

I could go straight paladin with-
10 Str/12 Dex/12 Con/14 Int/18 Wis/10 Cha
*get 4 Spells via Mystic Past Life
*get more spells with Unsanctioned Knowledge

But yes, i doubt i'd be able to cast MPL/Bard spells with my Paladin slots. managing so many spells is bound to get difficult.

my main question is still: What class should i put more levels into?

Grand Lodge

let's revisit this build idea.

I don't think Unsanctioned Knowledge is worth the feat for this build. It's PFS, so i only have 12 lvls to divvy up and Paladins won't get half the spells gained through this feat. Unless i want to shell out the cash for a wand of [Oracle spell 4], i could probably attempt a UMD with my bard levels.

The question then becomes, what Arcane spells do i snag with Mystic Past Life that would contribute to this build?
I don't mind taking this build down a more melee-oriented build, but I'm not nearly effective at Smiting enemies as other paladins due to the Invigorator archetype.

Stats around:
15 Str/10 Dex/12 Con/12 Int/10 Wis/16 Cha and will probably have to invest in Arcane Armory Mastery to cast effectively as a bard.

If you want a single-class support Paladin build, a Paladin with no archetype or a Holy Tactician(*) may be your best bet, even with your ability score bonuses not matching your casting stat and Divine Grace.

(*)Caution: May be highly table dependent not because of any confusion in the rules or on the part of the GM, but because of the other players -- if you've got Leeroy Jenkins in the table, you're out of luck.

Keep in mind that if you dip even 1 level in something else, you won't get 3rd level Paladin spells (let alone anything you might snag from another list by way of Mystic Past Life within PFS build space unless you have some kind of boon that lets you postpone retirement, so it might be better to snag Druid and/or Ranger spells instead and scrap the Unsanctioned Knowledge (which would be required to snag arcane spells).
