Can you use a Graviton revelation when Photon Attuned?

Can your use a Photon revelation when Graviton Attuned?

As an example, could you be Photon Attuned and use Dark Matter? Would your u get the bonus for fully attuned when you became fully Photon attuned?

Although the revelations mention requiring attunement, I can't find anything indicating that the revelations require you be attuned to the same mode as the revelation for most of the revelations.

Note that there are some that specify mode -- Black Hole and Supernova. Most do not.

I'd say so, barring those that call out a specific attunement, seeing as how you can use them while out of combat and unattuned.

It fits the Solarion theme of mixing both, rather than picking one over the other.

It is strongly implied by the description of stellar mode that a revelation only gains the benefits of being attuned when in the matching stellar mode. You can still use all the basic abilities from the unattuned mode, but only get the powerup for the mode you are in.

The Zenith revelations all call out photon or graviton, but I don't think that implies that normal revelations don't care which mode you are in.

Checking the Solarion pregen supports that you only get increased benefits from the mode you are in.

Good catch -- the lvl 8 Solarian pre-gen character sheet seems to settle it.

It explicitly replaces the "attuned or fully attuned" in the CRB with "attuned or fully attuned *to the [photon/graviton] mode*" (depending on which mode the revelation belongs to).

I agree it was strongly implied, but only some of them specifically included the limitation.

The level 8 Pre-Gen adding rules indicates that the person creating the pre-gen thought it was a requirement. Is that the same as the designers requiring it?

Looking more closely, some of them also have the phrase "until you leave graviton mode" or "until you leave photon mode" as part of the duration. In those cases (such as Plasma Sheath) there is good reason to rule it is a requirement even though it is a very indirect way of indicating it.

There are still some that don't have any mention of specific modes. The wording of Flare seems to indicate it can be used unattuned.

All abilities can be used unattuned or in the "wrong" mode. You just don't get the extra powers. You can use flare in graviton mode, but you can only use the area-of-effect ability in photon mode.

I do not think all abilities can be used unattuned.

The way I read Supernova and Black Hole is they can only be used when fully attuned to the correct mode.

Supernova and Black Hole are Zenith Revelations, which can be only used when fully attuned.

They are listed under Stellar Revelations. Technically, they are Stellar Revelations.

On the other hand, both of them say "...functions as a zenith revelation for the purposes of abilities that reference them."

I do not know why they didn't just make them zenith revelations that come in at 1st level (no choices). That would have actually saved them two lines of text and made this a little easier in several ways. Maybe in the next revision of the CRB?

*shrugs*

Still looking over everything but perhaps future proofing of some sort?

The pregens can NOT settle arguments like this (although they DO definitely provide some evidence).

1) The Core Rulebook has to stand alone, it is totally unreasonable to expect people to carefully parse the pregen sheets in order to determine what the rules mean

2) In Pathfinder, there were examples of pregens being built incorrectly (especially when FAQs later "clarified" the rules :-)). They cannot be taken as canonical.

Personally, I believe that the easiest interpretation is that you can only use the attuned revelations when attuned to the right mode. And I'm quite happy to accept the pregens as supporting evidence. But I don't think the issue is settled.

Not the only errors in text in the book. They are definitely zeniths.

I don't see it as an error so much as future proofing. They function as Zenith Revelations, but they didn't want characters to have the Zenith Revelations class feature at level 1.

Why wouldn't they want you to have the class feature if they pre picked them? They function like zeniths so until lvl 2 you can't use "revelations".

They wouldn't want you have the Zenith Revelations Class feature at first instead of 9th level, even though they're locked you still have the Stellar Revelations at 1st level.

Guessing as to why they did this? Later feats that might have the prequisite of Zenith Revelations.
