Could a dwarf worship an elf god?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm playing a blind dwarf Oracle who worships Yuelral, elven goddess of gems and crystals. His thing is he was raised thinking he was an elf and is very racist against dwarves.

The DM however is concerned that I wouldn't have any powers from the goddess because she wouldn't grant them to a non elf. Is this accurate?

Yes that is accurate. And not only that, but there's a sign on Elf Heaven that says "You must be at least this tall to ride this ride."

You can worship who you want.

If he's got an issue with it, take the adopted trait (you were likely to anyways) and show him you've gone native.

Although the gods work through many agents, perhaps none is more mysterious than the oracle. These divine vessels are granted power without their choice, selected by providence to wield powers that even they do not fully understand. Unlike a cleric, who draws her magic through devotion to a deity, oracles garner strength and power from many sources, namely those patron deities who support their ideals. Instead of worshipping a single source, oracles tend to venerate all of the gods that share their beliefs. While some see the powers of the oracle as a gift, others view them as a curse, changing the life of the chosen in unforeseen ways.

Oracles don't necessarily know exactly where their powers from. He might credit his powers to Yuelral, when actually they come from someone else.

If it's a cleric involved, it's up to the GM whether Yuelral grants divine powers to a dwarf.

An oracle, on the other hand, as Matthew Downie mentioned, gets divine powers from whatever whether they like it or not; whom, what, or if they worship has nothing to do with it.

It really depends on the deity. Yuelral is a tough case, because while she'll accept half-elf clergy, this is because she can see the elf inside of them. I suppose if your dwarf were figuratively an elf on the inside she may actually let him in, but it'd be a very unusual circumstance.

Doesn't matter. Oracle.

Oracles don't necessarily get their powers from the gods they worship and don't even need to worship a god at all to get the powers so no you're fine, you're Gm needs to chill.

Oracles don't have to worship a specific deity, and they usually don't. But that doesn't mean that they can't. You can totally be an oracle of Yuelral, just as you could be a paladin of her.

And that would have no bearing on whether you got your spells, so for this thread it doesn't matter.

It'd matter to the character, if he wasn't getting his spells from his goddess.

How would he ever know that xD

An oracle generally doesn't really know where their spells are coming from. They can decide, "it must be the will of Yuelral!", but that doesn't make it so.

That could actually be a source of some good character development if the character ever got commune and ended up not communing with his goddess of choice xD

PC: Hello my lady
Torag: Hello

That makes me wonder. Clerics and the such, are basically fanboys of their various gods, so do they sometimes cast commune just say, "Hi. You're so cool! Do you like the job I'm doing?"

That seems like it would depend on the god
I can see a cleric of Shelyn or Cayden but I think Torag probably wouldn't be best pleased

Drunk-Communing Cayden seems proper. Problem is when you try to do that in place of atonement.
