Wait I thought Ms. America was a lesbian, not bisexual. Is her learning more about the fluidity of her sexuality a major part of her comic, because if so I am very, very thrilled for various reasons.

Delightful,

Well she did hook up with Marvel Boy for a time. I assumed it was because she was trying things out. But no, there's not much fluidity atm since she's currently just into one girl. But we'll see.

Curses.

Hey it's not like there's a hard and fast rule that she's COULDN'T be bisexual. Hell, her best school friend, Prodigy is.

I think it was Nullifier, she hooked up with (but then groused about being her one exception, and feeling like a damn cliché). Different snarky white-haired teen hero-boy entirely. :)

(Perhaps she'll hang out with Speed, soon, and complete her trifecta of adventuring with snarky white-haired teen hero-boys?)

Set,

Whoops! You're right. That guy. I forgot all about him. As for her hanging out with Speed, I assumed that might already occurred since she and the Young Avengers are pretty close bunch.

PRODIGY WOOOOOOO YOU NEVER SHOULD HAVE LOST YOUR POWERS

Freehold,

Technically he hasn't. He's just not able to update his knowledge as quickly as he could. Now he just does it the old fashioned way. I mean I don't think he could build a transwarp gateway into the Negative Zone, but at the same time, I do think he could build his own tank.

I think his power was 'knowledge by osmosis' His ability to edictic memory it is apparently just 'normal' edictic memory.

Matthew,

That was my understanding as well.

the last I heard was that he lost his powers but retained what he knew at the time he had them. So he's just a guy with eidetic memory now. Unusual, perhaps, but nothing compared to what he once had.

Wait, what? Since when does Kara have the ability to do mindwipes? *sigh* I miss Persusaion in a regular book.

Matthew,

Kara doesn't. But her old man did with his other kids and they joined together to mind wipe people. That's how no one remembers Matt Murdock is Daredevil.

Ah Ok. I picked up Alpha Flight with #49, then went and got back issues. Her intoduction of being in the bathtub trying to wash the purple off may have been an analogy for a woman's first period, but that crying in fear and wondering what she did wrong pulled at my heart strings. Mix that with a power that lends itself to abuse, and her trying to be a hero... she was my favourite Alphan of that time, right after Madison Jefferies.

no, it was a racial reference. I think I remember the documentary it was based on. Heartbreaking nonetheless.

But man, was he overpowered. Especially when he could make the armor any size he wanted.

Yeah, his original power, to make metal, plastic, etc. form into shapes that mimicked the functions of his own body, and basically make humanoid robots out of cars and stuff, was plenty awesome.

And then he's making spaceships, and giant wheels with guns sticking out of them, and I'm like 'What part of your body is *that* exactly, Madison? Is that a mutant thing? Because I'm pretty sure I don't have one of those...'

I'm pretty sure Madison might be dead but I could be wrong.

In any case yes, Kara Killgrave is like her dad, but when I say "Purple Children" I mean her half siblings that appeared in Daredevil Volume 4 #8.

huh, learn something new every day. I just figured with her being out her colour changes the puberty/period thing seemed the best way.

Matthew,

Not sure but I do know the purple kids only turned purple when they got in close proximity of each other.

just read Captain America: Steve Rogers #18 and Secret Empire #5. And Good news: T'Challa and Nat are still as badass as ever. Sorry Steve, you have no chance to win this thing.

ON a side note, it seems as if I was partly right with my hammer theory about why the Odinsson joined the Hydra camp. I'm glad that he's in heavy doubt about that, though.

Wormy,

It is that plus the fact I think MAYBE Jane Foster is actually INSIDE the hammer. At least...that's my current theory. But yeah Odinson isn't doing it for lolz or for mind control. Clearly he's being black mailed.

But yes like I said before, T'Challa isn't one to screw around.

SE Spoilers!

Spoiler:

So yeah main story of SE is where it's at. #5 had some pathos to it along with some very tragic stuff happening. Mostly I felt it was a chance to see the Underground understand the depth of how bad it is trying to get a Cube shard while out running HYDRA and the rest. I felt REALLY bad when the mountain went boom, but the same time, I wonder if maybe Ant-man or maybe Bobbi had some hand in alerting Rogers. Mostly I felt like Rogers was being more...aggressive and dark than before. That and I still can't believe he could pick up Mjolnir...again. But at Wormy pointed out, it's part of the reason why Odinson is on the team. Oh and Widow and Viper both prove they're pretty damn ruthless in their goals. Mostly though, it's a confirmation of what I thought would happen. Back before CWII kicked off, there were those visions of the Hulk killing the Avengers. Now I'm sure it was more about the vision of Bruce without real consciousness of thought, killing the Underground at HydraCap's behest. So yeah. Hawkeye might want to check to see if his life insurance is paid up.

Occupy Avengers is closing up shop, but not without a little controversy. IE the Death of Supreme Power Nighthawk. And not by the hands of some villain, or even a squad of HYDRA goons. Just some random "kill the black guy". This does however make the NEW Nighthawk aka Nightshade/Tilda more sympathetic. But we'll see how that goes as we close in on the end.

Captain Marvel continues to look at how the Space guys deal with being locked out of Earth, plus the fact I think Carol is almost breaking under the strain. Oh and the cadets might have knocked her out accidentally trying to get a call out to Earth.

GotG annual shows us the return of Mantis AND the 616 version of MCU Yondu, who is WAY more of a dick than his comic counterpart. But eh. Mostly it's just seeing Starlord uncomfortable and Gamora ready to take some heads. Plus hey, Galactus has fans and they collect his stuff!

Amazing Spiderman shows us what Otto is planning for PI (Parker Industries) along with #0 of SE from Peter's view. Mostly it's about the steps I think where Peter will probably lose the company...but maybe not. I do like Otto's new suit though.

So that's it for SE stuff.

NON-SE (But not Mutant!) Spoilers!
!
!
!
!

Spoiler:

Continuing from Spiderman, we see the battle of the Clones as Kaine and Ben square off. Will Ben keep his title? Or is Kaine ready to go poof again?

Black Panther deals with the ramifications of possible dead gods and an ex-wife helper. Plus you know, magic stuff. Still not quite sure how this is going to move towards Wakanda's bigger picture.

Defenders see a lovely Blade cameo along with more questions about how the hell does a street punk like Diamondback able to man handle both Luke Cage AND Jessica Jones? I dunno. I just read em folks.

Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme deal with the author and of course Issac Newton's attempted betrayal. Plus future Wiccan is dying. Bad. But good is seeing his future. Maybe.

Infamous Iron Man also has a sorcerer supreme in Tony Stark of...the future? Maybe? No idea. Also Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm bond and reminisce. Mostly, more of Mamma Doom's return and possible future for Victor.

Moon Girl visits Ego's daughter and tries to leave after figuring out that staying on a sentient planet is a bad idea, even a kid version. And of course MG and DD meet their alternate counterparts.

Totally Awesome Hulk has more of WMD storyline. That and Cho trying to keep the body count low. We'll see if that sticks.

Spider girl shows us that no matter what happens in an alternate universe, never trust a Kingpin and certainly do NOT let a Rhino in a cell.

While I don't know how I feel about Venom as a title, the edge of the Venomverse is starting off REALLY well. Basically if you took X-23's NYX title, tossed in Venom and some street kids, you'd get this one shot.

That's it for our non-mutant side.

Now to the non-SE Mutant Spoilers side!
!
!
!

!

Spoiler:

Cable continues to run through time and fight guys from other times with future weapons. Why? Why not? I guess.

Young Jean Grey continues to try to resist going full on Dark Phoenix before it shows up. Talks with Namor (bad idea), and gets to figure out that maybe a physical altercation is needed. That and Namor has no real answers to a giant firebird killer thing. I mean no more than the rest of the hosts have had. I guess.

X-men Blue shows us how Jean and the rest are doing with living on Madipoor and of course Jimmy getting into trouble. That and apparently X-men learning ninja skills.

So there you go!

The Exchange

Thomas Seitz wrote:

I dunno about Ultimate, but yes.

edit: And with you separating your summaries, it's pretty much my favorite as well, as I keep reading SE stuff first, X-Men stuff second and then go over to the distinguished competition. So it'S prefect if I want to read the parts relating to what I've already read.

Thank you for that.

Wormy,

Eh I figured since people like to keep mutants and non-mutant stuff separate, this was a valid compromise. Plus the fact it allows me a chance to enjoy writing stuff separately.

Also it kind of LOOKED like the Ultimate version of a certain Captain America villain. At least if you've read that mini-series.

The Exchange

I didn't read Ultimate Stuff much at all, so probably I haven't.

Well he was in the Ultimate series Ultimate Avenger. It was pretty brutal but awesome too.

The Exchange

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'll look into it. When I got back into comics, the Ultimate Universe was already in full swing. So it was easier to ignore it than to read up on all the stuff.

Apart from that, I had always been a defender of the 616-continuity and while I didn't mind the occasional "What if"-story, I was firmly convinced that any story that you couldn't tell within the frame of that continuity, wasn't worth telling at all. A whole alternate universe was simply something I absolutely didn't care about.

In the meantime, I've seen the error of my ways and started judging storylines on their own merits. I couldn't care less if a story of 2017 contradicts things written in a story of 1975, as long as it is good. Though I still can get cranky when they pull all this big event nonsense just to create a new status quo they already plan to destroy two years later.

Regardless,

I think more Ultimate stuff is coming down the pike but how much of that will remain after SE and anything more...is debatable.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes it's that time again! Time to satiate Freehold desire to know what's going WITHOUT actually reading the books and also keep Wormy in the dark. (Until he's read them!)

So here we go with.... SPOILERS!
!
!
!
!
SE Spoilers first!

Spoiler:
So mini-series before book tie ins! Once again, with three vignettes from New World Order #3, we get some slices that might be good, aren't so good, and just generally...why? Good! Seeing JJ Jameson step back into his role as an actual newsman! Less good, seeing Robbie Robertson get kind of pwned by Kraven, but eh. Good! Seeing Spider Woman/Jessica Drew do some good moves! Less good, the middle vignette, with the supposed Super powerful "I once blew up the Beyonders all by myself" Starbrand not doing JACK because...who the hell knows?! But you'd think he'd figure out time travel with that thing or something. Why? Why!?! Why do they insist on killing of Namora!? Yes after all that build up, Namora surrenders to be executed by her own cousin. Why? I dunno. Something weird about sea monsters I guess. Still unclear WHY this happened. So....there you go.

Champions gives us the whole "Before they joined the Red Room" sthick. It was... okay? I mean Cho and Viv helped and even though it wasn't Kamala they saved. (I mean I guess she needs to keep running with Daisy) they at least saved Inhumans. So...yay?

Meanwhile Avengers shows us Jane Foster/Thor trapped somewhere but it's clearly NOT Mjolnir like I'd hoped. All in all, this was more about showcasing Jane Foster Thor as a hero than actually answering WHERE ARE YOU JANE?!! Oh and of course fighting big monsters.

There's an X-men Gold tie in but honestly THAT deserves it's own spoiler section. So just hold on folks!

So that finishes up our SE spoiler portion.

On to NON-SE spoilers (that don't involve mutants)
!
!
!
!

Spoiler:
Really the high points of this part were the Unstoppable Wasp and...really kind of it. Sad. But back to Wasp! Yes first our original, Janet Van Dyne shows us how much life has changed since the 1960s and of course her own maturity. That coupled with watching her handle problems that younger woman like Nadia has no idea about shows me how much I love Janet. She proves while she might not science with the best of them, she's clearly the leader and even yes, a mom figure, especially now to Naida and her friend Ying. Really I could re-read this issue all day.

Miles has some good interactions with his crew AND his mom (who apparently decided she doesn't want to be like HER mom), but really the two things I drew from this are, Bombshell is probably headed for a heartbreak with Mile, and Black Cat isn't taking this crap any more. Nor is Hammerhead. So yeah. Bad news there. Good news, Goldballs continues to shine.

Daredevil has an interesting brief read with our newest (or rather still pretty traumatic Hulk induced) Jen Walters. Which of course has its own problems when the Kingpin sends Tombstone to silence Matt Murdock. But the real thing is reading the legal sides of this. So...we'll see.

Star Lord runs from Nova Corps and then has to do some kind of timey-wimey space stuff to get his music fix. It's not great but eh.

Iron Fist shows us more Kung Fu awesome, but honestly it's just more of a case to prove to us Danny Rand deserves better fights in some ways. Story wise...we'll see how it goes.

Black Bolt teams up to unleash his powers and that of his fellow inmates against their jailor. NICE cameo of Death's Head (the robot) btw. Mostly it was break out and try to get past the Jailer. Didn't go so well. But eh.

The better Hawkeye shows us how much of a dick her father is while at the same time, Madame Masque is obviously after the Bishop blood/genome. So clones away! (And here I thought Spidey had that market cornered...)

Deadpool (in another reality obviously) gets mind whammied to killing for Red Skull and his friends. It's pretty much like the first Deadpool kills the Marvel U, except less Meta.

Jessica Jones puts her foot down on Maria Hill's crap. Too bad that just makes her step into more. We'll see how far it all goes. Right now I'd just prefer it wrap up.

So that's it for non-mutant non-SE stuff. ONWARDS!

X-men related spoilers!
!
!
!
!

Spoiler:
Laura continues to shine as the better Wolverine while going into space. But Gabby is clearly the reason we read this. That plus giving Deadpool her middle finger (she can regrow it!) was a laugh. Less so was seeing all those Brood. Which is pretty bad. So yeah...

AND because while it did tie into SE, X-men Gold shows us more about our newest X-Cutioner. Oh and some mutants die pretty horribly. That plus Kurt and Rachel are romancing, while the rest of the X-men deal with Darkforce demons on the streets. Mostly it's just this guy and how much longer before Logan shreds him. Because you know he will. That and I still wonder what the ramifications of having Rachel's power unlock mean down the road. But I guess we'll find out!

So there you are folks! I hope you enjoyed it.

Dark Archive

Goldballs is appearing in Miles' book? Ack! Must find and buy this!

'Cause I'm a sucker for mutants with funky powers. (And who aren't bright-haired telepaths or telepath/telekinetics, or young ladies with time travel powers, 'cause you can't swing a dead Sentinel without hitting six of those.)

So! Once more it's time for I, Blaine Seitz, to do what Freehold loves (or at least enjoys more than eating brussel sprouts I assume), and what Wormy...waits in a corner until he's done reading. Yep! SE and non SE spoilers!

First! SE Spoilers!
!
!
!
!

Spoiler:
So no mini-series stuff but a goodly amount of ties! Are these tie in any good? Well...they had the benefit of reading better than some of last week's...in some ways.

First is ASM (Amazing Spider-man!)'s fight with Hydra-Ock to keep control of PI. (Still think they need to change it to MP and they'd do better.) We get a glimpse of the battle of DC from Spidey's PoV. (It didn't go well.) Then back to him running around the globe while trying to keep Ock from getting...Honestly I don't know since Doc did MAKE some of this after all! So why he is doing it? For the Lolz? Maybe? Dunno. I do know that I'm DEEPLY disappointed in Beast for letting politics and supposed 'pragmatistism' let Doc take stuff. But hey at least we get to see more Spidey vehicles right?

Next, Deadpool clearly sees there's something wrong with working for Hydra without actually getting paid. But at least they won't send his daughter to go live in Emma Frost Land. At least, not if he can help it. That and of course what happened to Preston as NYC fell. We did get a nice Paste Pot Pete/Trapster cameo at the end.

Secret Warriors shows us that having a red Dino is cool and being smart is great, but being 8 and not having much else isn't going to help you in a fight against Hydra and Mister Hyde. Oh and Quake clearly has daddy issues. Mostly once more, something Hydra should learn, Helicarriers should be given warnings about lasting more than one use.

The continuation of where the Unity Squad was after the dome went down but BEFORE any of them will probably see the light of day again. Mostly it's just Rogue internal monologuing about she's not a team player/leader and Synapse using her powers to exorcise (with a huge assist by Doctor Voodoo)...Doctor Voodoo's new friend. Ending was...ambigious, but I remain hopeful we'll get a better Unity squad soon.

X-men Blue! isn't more mutant centered than it is Emma Frost and even some nice under used mutant cameos with new power sets. (Just where the hell did Wolfsbane learn how to clone herself?!) Also some cameos to mention: Firestar and Mondo do a nice job. TOAD returns with fire tongue. Seeing that inversion thing on Alex Summer really hasn't gone away like we hoped. (He's A REAL dick to Teenie Jeanie) Mostly though read it as more like "Mutants fight each other because some want to serve the actual mutant dream and others accept that this world is borked." Oh and Emma clearly wants younger Cy. Ew.

That's it for SE stuff spoilers!
Next up! NON-SE (but non-mutant) spoilers!

Non-SE Mutant Spoilers!

Spoiler:

So yeah the new mini-series about "Who is 616-Miles Morales?!!" kind of a big deal. Mostly we see Miles is a better Spider-man for being a young kid while Peter is clearly meant to be...a jerk? Weird. Also weird, Taskmaster! I mean it's certainly him in a new look outfit and weaponry...but which one?! And of course we get the reveal of SCARRED older Miles!

Black Panther and the Crew shapes up with possible connections to SE, in terms of them fighting HYDRA. But I doubt it. Mostly I keep waiting to see if this does end by issue 5 or not. *checks* Nope! We get to 6. Weird but okay. So sad in some ways they couldn't get past 6 issues. But there you are.

Defenders find out getting shot by Frank Castle was just his way of saying "Get out of my playground!" Still unclear who or what brought back Diamondback. But I can say, when you can take a punch from Iron Fist and/or stop it and almost Batman Bane style break him...yeah not quite the same guy. Oh and there's a nice tie back to the ongoing "DD erased his civilian Identity!" and it makes Luke think Matt's name is really Garry.

Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers takes us to the FUTURE! And boy howdy is both familiar and weird. First we see how Wiccan got his mark of Sorrow (along with the fact some older Mutants are in the mix). Then we see him deal with reprecussions thanks to our newest Doctor Doom...VALERIA Richards! Yep. She's running Hell now. It's weird folks! (Plus the fact she had ONE scar and it wasn't that bad!)

Edge of the Venomverse #2 shows us A Gwenpool with Venom...but honestly there's not much pay out other than she dies by the new threat called the Poisons. Sad. I hope #3 has better stuff.

Jennifer Walter/Formerly known as She-Hulk (now just Hulk) is clearly okay with being Grey (even if I'd prefer her back in Green.) Also she's on the case of trying to stop some kind of designer drug/serum that clearly makes people monstrous. So we'll see.

Rocket goes into the slammer but hell since he broke out of the Kyln, this new place doesn't impress me much. Nice try guys! Bonus for a lovely Deadpool cameo though!

Squirrel Girl goes to the Savage Land! Dinos! So...yeah pretty standard stuff for our Doreen.

Finally we have some information about Brock/Venom's condition. We also get a nice cameo by Devil Dino and Moon Girl! Mostly we see what I keep thinking. "Stergon deserves Sauron if they want Dinos gone wild." That and apparently when the FBI makes an antidote to keep people from getting Symobiotes, it sticks!

AND that's it for our Non-mutant non-Se portion!
On to the mutants!
!
!
!
!

Spoiler:

I admit, I had hoped Odinson would be like "I'm not a teacher but you say you have a giant fiery death bird after you? I'm in!" Still at least Jean made a nice psychic hammer. Oh and plenty of WoW in jokes too. Mostly it's nice to see Odinson play instructor...even if he's not that good at it. I still think young Jeanie is toast.

Generation X continues to be my favorite, hearkens back to other nice team X books. Mostly it's nice to see Jubilee realize how much of a pain she was before all the vampire stuff. That and a lovely cameo by Danielle Moonstar. MAJOR props to Jono/Chamber helping Bling! handle the fact she might not be X-men material. Also Jubilee is PISSED about Monet taking stuff to be the new Emplate. So...yeah I think it's about to go down. Oh and Quire is STILL a dick.

Old Man Logan deals with interdimensional Hulk refugees and the fact the Mastro clearly has plans to blow the crap out some parts for his new homeland. Cameo of Puck, but mostly it's just seeing Logan get shot up REALLY painfully that sticks with you.

Weapon X crawls along but clearly it's going to reach the point where the team will find out what is in Batch H. Mostly I'm thinking the new program is CLEARLY good about keeping leaks and plugging problems before they occur. I mean damn. Killing 30 people just to keep quiet about ONE shipment? Harsh.

So there you are folks!

So...Delightful? Wormy? Anyone?

Freehold,

Read my non-SE Spoilers. And no, neither of those. Also what part of that spoiler on SE was weird is what I was asking.

Delightful,

I wouldn't hold my breath entirely. Remember this is one POSSIBLE future. I'm not saying it won't happen but it seems in 2017-2018...unlikely.

Thomas Seitz,

Galatus dammit, why can't Marvel just grow up and bring them back into the limelight? The whole thing is a child's tamper tantrum done on a corporate level.
