A couple of questions about Wall of Suppression:

- Will it disable the dominant weapons the PCs create in the Runeforge?

Since the only things excluded are things with a higher caster level or artifacts, I would say: Yes. (This presumes we are talking about a Wall cast by Karzoug who is 20th level.)

Since the Wall's spell description does not explicitly say that it cannot be dispelled (what seems to me the relevant criteria from Dispel Magic's description) the answer would also be Yes. What I'm less clear on is: if you dispel the Wall itself does that end the suppression on all the items or are those individual effects that would have to be dispelled individually?

One check against the wall since one source created all of the dispelling/suppressing. Same applies with communal spells - you pop the one spell, all the recipients lose the benefit.

Thanks, Latrecis and TMC, that helps. I'm not sure that my players - even after another 8 levels - are going to be able to survive the Eye for 10+ rounds without any functioning magic weapons, armor, or other items. I could just run the Eye with Karzoug as written, but I can't quite believe he wouldn't do something to nerf their gear & buffs once he knows they're coming.

I may run them through one or two arena-style battles (outside the adventure) before then with a much higher level wizard to get them thinking about how to deal with a truly prepared high-level arcane caster.

I will say doing something that completely shuts down the PCs' Dominant Weapons after they spent an entire chapter of the AP (a chapter that some GMs say their players found to be a slog) acquiring them for the express purpose of the confrontation with Karzoug seems like an enormous jerk move on the GM's part.

I'm not opposed to Karzoug doing whatever it takes to keep himself alive, including suppressing the PCs buffs and magic items, but the Dominant Weapons, by their very nature, should be untouchable to him.

That's what Wish/Miracle is for.

Silver Crusade

My group is still in lower Xin Shalast, and they've already gotten a taste of Karzoug's forces trying to eliminate their dominant weapons. Given how much Karzoug knows about the PCs by this point (after all, he literally interrogates the souls of every enemy the PCs kill that have a Sihedron star on them), he's been telling his forces how to deal with them.

So when they faced two rune giants in the streets of Xin Shalast, the giants knew not to even bother trying to get through the ultra-armor of the party's two tanks. Instead, they used their "breath" weapon, and tried to sunder the dominant weapons. They didn't destroy the weapons, but it was enough to scare the group.

Keep in mind the pc's have several opportunities to encounter Karzoug prior to the Eye via his images. The AP suggests he doesn't use his highest level spells until the actual confrontation in the Eye, but you could just as easily unleash his higher level spells to foreshadow what the pc's would face later.

You could also have the images be in the same room with actual defenders of the Pinnacle to increase the difficulty, etc. Oh wait - is that something only a <rhymes with trick> GM (like me) would do?

Remember the images have a cumulative chance per round of failing as Karzoug casts spells through them. (I'm not a total <rhymes with trick>.)
