@Xander - At this point, there's not much of a mission in Azurestone itself; perhaps you could be investigating rumors of treasure chambers perforating the area around the blue stone menhir nearby.

The pathfinders and Xander's family have contacts all over the place. It could be that he's just delivering messages right now, or visiting friends. Is Azurestone much of a vacation spot?

I am working on my background tonight. I will post it tomorrow. ~Jules

Hello, Neirikr here. I present to you Renato Vitrotti, the revolutionary writer. He turned out to be quite different than I first envisioned. I seem to be incapable of creating well-adjusted characters...

I chose the 'Show-Stopper' campaign trait, which allows him to use Perform (oratory) instead of Diplomacy. Seemed fitting, though he is not likely to put up much of a show. He is less interested in making a big deal of himself, and more in quietly immersing himself in the local ambiance. Of course, if there are any fans of his writing in town, he might be convinced to do a public reading. Regardless, he has a rather romantic view of the locale, and is very invested in preserving the region and its quaint traditions (going as far as to step in to defend them should the need arise).

Mechanically, Renato would mesh very well with a character capable of granting morale bonuses (say, a cleric with bless), since he has both a bloodline ability and a spell that allow him to give additional bonuses for such effects (both for himself and others). Yay for synergy!

I might still do a little tweaking, but I'm pretty happy with him already. Feel free to give me feedback!

Torg Ironheart, at your service. Well, if you're a dwarf at least.

Here's my idea for a dwarven inquisitor.

  • Background: done.
    Very short version:
Torg's born in Azurestone but he left at a young age after his father was killed by a summoned demon. He trained in Highhelm to become a soldier, but felt that he belonged outside where dwarves are more exposed. Since he has always been very pious, he decided to work for Torag's cult as a lay inquisitor. He's set out for Azurestone recently after he had dreams of the blue menhir which he interprets as messages from his deity.

  • Description: I will do the personality part tomorrow.
  • Crunch: done (I may change a couple of spells or the teamwork feat if my PC is considered for this campaign, depending on the other players)

Feel free to comment! :-)

Hello. I'm interested in applying. Just had one preliminary question: are you okay with combining unchained monk and the sensei archetype? They do in fact play well together, as unchained monk has all the features that get replaced by sensei. I think I'd end up with a pretty similar character concept regardless, but this'll affect how it plays out mechanically.

Hi Rennai! Archlich here with my submission. As always, my friend, please feel free to point out anything you might want me to adjust. It's a pleasure to apply for another of your games and I'd love the chance to play again under your hosting :)

Here's Mjolbeard's submission. Human Ranger (Skirmisher) and his trusty dog and hunting companion, Huan (bonus points if you know where that name came from).

I'm still cleaning up some things on the crunch (mostly inventory and Huan's stats) and I need to actually write up the background, but you can at least get a notion for what the character is like in terms of combat and skill allocation.

Since you're allowing drawbacks, I think I'd like to take the Attached drawback. If selected, I'd definitely let you pick the person/object that is the subject of his attachment.

Let me know if you have any questions for me about the character! Thanks!

Nixie's Background:

Nixie knows very little about the details of her birth. As a matter of fact, all she knows is that somehow she ended up in the care of a Faun named Tristan. Her earliest memories involve caring for the wildlife in the forests surrounding Azurestone with her adopted big brother. Her childhood was a happy one. The kind hearted Tristan taught her a love for nature as well as a devotion to Old Deadeye himself, Erastil. They made it their mission to protect the forest and its inhabitants. The little Gnome also had a tendency for tomfoolery, probably a result of her Fey heritage. The two enjoyed playing harmless pranks on the Humans and Dwarves who travelled and hunted in the woods. She had very little contact with these humanoids though and was content to live the rest of her life aiding her brother in caring for the forest and its inhabitants.

Everything changed one day though when Tristan failed to meet up with her after their daily rounds. She waited helplessly until nightfall for a reunion that never occurred. Fearful, she set out in the dark to find her big brother. She searched throughout the night, but ended up exhausted and lonely. She fell into a deep sleep and had fitful nightmares about a harsh winter falling over Azurestone. It was the first of many such nightmares. Upon waking, she continued her search. She was horrified to find her brother murdered and left for dead. She tracked the footprints from his body for hours before finally losing the trail. She returned to the faun’s lifeless corpse and buried him in the ground they both loved.

Loneliness swept over the budding druid. She spent weeks wandering aimlessly alone. A chance encounter with a Half-Elven hunter was the only thing that set her back on course. She had seen Ost Untamoinen guiding hunting parties through the woods many times, but she had never spoken to him. He caught her unaware and she was forced into an awkward face to face encounter with the guide. The hunter was genuinely interested in Nixie and her role in the preservation of the forest. He invited her to visit him in Azurestone. It took a few weeks for the druid to build up the nerve to enter the town. Once she finally did though, she was thrilled that she had taken the chance.

The people of the town intrigued the Gnome. She watched as families farmed together, as locals made merry with one another in the Sun’s Rest pub, as bards sang songs of lament and celebration. She never could have guessed how amazing the town and its people really were. Over the next few months, she split time between the forest and the town. She felt caught between two worlds which she loved equally. She slowly met many of its citizens and leaders. She began worshipping periodically in the Inclusive Hall. It was during this period of her life that she met her new soul mate, a white tiger named Frost.

It has been almost two years since she first visited Azurestone. During that time, she has developed quite an affinity for the locals. Today, she enters the town preparing to celebrate the Harvest Festival with her friends. It is a time of excitement and revelry. It is also a chance for the inquisitive Gnome to meet new people and to be introduced to new races while celebrating the changing of the seasons with her friends.

Whew! Busy couple of days for me - I'll catch up with everyone tonight. Thanks everyone for all the work you've put in already!

Work? This is fun!

I will complete backstory before Monday.

I am prepping for a home game on Saturday also...fun times.

Hoss'r Stonekind

Fluff and Crunch now complete!

Enjoy!

Just let me know if you have any questions.
=)

Now the waiting begins...

Ok so here is the background fluff. Sorry about the wall text the spoiler thing is hating me today. If I get to play I may add some more scenes in there.

Ulric Calien is an Orphan of Galt. Raised in the Lucky House, a orphanage run by devotees to Cayden Calien. The Lucky House is run by an older woman named Bridget. Being raised among the easy going followers of the Lucky Drunk Ulric, like many of the other children, became a devotee himself. While many like the easy nature of this theology Ulric was draw in by the pull of the freedom guaranteed by it. Trying for years in his youth but never having a skill for the holy magic's that the clerics did Ulric was a constant source of amusement and agitation to his elders from age seven to sixteen until a chance encounter with a fox.

SceneRunning as fast as his leg can carry him Ulric dashes to the small group of children. They are in a circle laughing and that is never a good thing with that lot. Those brats will meet a bad end one day ganging up on something more powerful than them.
Finally close to the circle of rotten children Ulric booms, What do you all think you are doing! Pleased to see the kids jump at his voice.
The biggest one, the leader of the rag tag bunch of miscreants Devin, doesn't jump though. Glaring up at the older boy, Arent there table you should be cleaning?
Ulric can clearly see what is laying in the center of the circle. A little grey furry creature they have been kicking for their amusement. Little mosnters Growling at the youth, Nope this is my free time. Striding to the creature and gently picking it up to cradle it.
With a sneer Devin moves infront of Ulric, Listen here bastard that is a fox and free to kill,
Stepping around the younger boy and glaring down the other children. Not like that.[b] Ignoring the little heathens and quickly walking home. At least its still breathing. Maybe Bridget will be able to heal it. Moving as quickly as he can while trying not to further injure the little fox. Once back at the Luck House he makes quick work of finding Bridget.
Gently laying the wounded fox on the table in front of the older woman. [b]Devin and his gang of monsters where trying to stomp this little guy to death. Please fix him.[b] Bridget sighs and opens her mouth. Familiar with that deep sigh and knowing that it is refusal Ulric is quick to keep talking. [b]That is no way for a creature to die Bridget. With no dignity and being stomped by little brats. Please.

Lifting her hands to silence her charge, Fine but know that if that little fox goes about harrasing the flocks then it will be killed anyways. Genially laying her hands on the fox there is a quick glow and the bruising and broken bones on the poor creature are mended. You are responsible for putting it back in the forest Ulric.
Slowly opening it eyes the fox stares at Ulric. Seeing that the fox is still laying there Ulric picks it up while murmuring, Thank you Bridget. Leaving and heading out to the town line.
The further he get the more his head begins to hurt. At a dull ache when he goes out the door it quickly turns into a booming throbbing once outside of the village. The grey fox is staring at his the whole time not that the young man notices. Stumbling to the tree line Ulric kneels down next to a tree. Carefully setting the fox down. You are going to.. His vision narrows to the single red droplet in the grass. Reaching put to touch his nose there is blood dripping.
A soft growling voice from his side starts to speak. Sicut spiritus fit melius. Tu pro me. Ego tibi sors ostenderit. Nunc reliqua dicemus postea Ulric.

Celestial:
Just breath it gets better. You prayed for me. I am here to guide you to your destiny. Rest now we will talk later Ulric.
Ulric cannot understand any of the word but his name at the end but it sounds soothing. Breathing heavily his head drops and he surrenders to the call of sleep.
True to its word the fox, named Conris, stayed and taught Ulric many things. Over a few months Ulric learned to become a holy warrior for Cayden Calien. He left home a year after meeting Conris. Feeling that he needed to see the world and that he would be able to do more in the world. Joining up with a merchant caravan that passed through town.
In the five years that passed Ulric has seen many places. The fields and small towns of Andoran, the massive metropolises of Taldor, and the dangerous forest that they share. He has only been in Galt for a few months and is thinking this is where he needs to be for the time being. It also helps that there is a Harvest Festival in Azurestone that the caravan he has been traveling with for over months is headed. A break sounds nice.

A bit about his

personality:
Ulric is a friendly man. Firm in his faith but not pushy about it. He is at his most relaxed in a group of relaxed and happy people, regardless of where that it. Many years ago he chose to dedicate himself to helping all around him. Be it with giving gold to those in need, dealing with a bully, playing body guard, or serving tables at an over packed tavern.
More than a little vain Ulric knows he was born blessed with good looks and is perfectly content to use them to his advantage if he can. Prone to flirting he has been brought low many times through rejection. Choosing to use the rejection as a learning experience. He is more than likely to turn the tale of his failure into what he hopes is an amusing tale.
Many times he doesn't think things through but if he gives his word he will do anything he can to try to keep it. Much like his chosen Deity Ulric is perfectly content to take payment for his services. He keeps what he needs to survive on and tend to donate the rest to those in need. Wither it is in the place that paid him or holding on to it to give out later.
A common skill among the followers of the Lucky Drunk is brewing and this is not a skill Ulric has, at all. The last time he attempted it he was violently ill for two days. But the graceful devotee can dance and should a bard be present at a tavern he is visiting Ulric is more likely to be dancing than drinking. If there is no music or no dance partners to be found Ulric is perfectly happy to meander about and find people to share stories with.

Revised code
shall never abuse my Gods brew and will dissuade others from doing so. I will try to council others in this regard. A mug is only to be raised in joy and celebration not sorrow.
I shall know my limits and strive to never give my word if it is beyond me to achieve.
I shall protect those unable to do so themselves and those who enslave others are my sworn enemy. I shall work tirelessly to hunt and remove their stain from the world.
I am always brave in the face of danger and shall be a rallying point for my companions but there is no shame in retreating from overwhelming forces. After all when if I fall in battle I can no longer lend my aid to those who need it.
I shall live a life worth living and telling others about.
Always tip the barmaid well.

Since he travled with a merchant caravan I would love to tie him in with any other PC who may have done so as well.

I need to finish his background, but he ended up in Galt, hiring on as a caravan guard.

It was a long journey.

All right - finished with family time, let's do this!

@DM Mathpro - I'll keep eyes out for your submission.

@Mum Hruska - Neat; I really liked the slums spirit when I first saw it. Looking at it again, I'm actually surprised by how little it depends on an urban environment - I thought it depended heavily on a city setting, but only the greater spirit ability mentions it at all.

@Xander Ravencourt - Yes, very much a vacation destination. The "Intro to Azurestone" above talks about some of the tourist opportunities. Or you could be on your way to meet with the venture captain in Woodsedge, Eliza Petulengro.

@Renato Vitrotti - Soooo emo. I take perverse delight in it. >:) Very neat character.

@Torg Ironheart - I like what you've got, especially the tie-in to the menhir. Definitely much to work with there.

@Tazo - I'll go ahead and tentatively say yes, I'll allow unchained monk and sensei to work together. If it looks like it's going to work out too brokenly I reserve the right to rescind it, but it seems like it adds some neat party support to the monk.

@Donnen Phelps - Looks good so far! I must say, that's the first time I've ever seen anyone propose a treesinger. :)

@Siúlóir MacBruthe - Hooray Tolkien inspiration! I'm one of the rare few that actually loves the Silmarillion. :D (I will admit, I knew it was Tolkien, but I had to Google it to confirm that I knew it.) His story looks interesting so far - I'll get back to you on the attachment.

@Nixie Dragonlily - Very cool! I wouldn't mind just a bit about how she met Frost, but otherwise I like it.

@He'sDeadJim - Cool, I like it. Thanks!

@DAA/Ulric Cailean - Excellent; looks good to me. I think the spoiler issue could have come around if you were trying to do a spoiler inside a spoiler, like with the Celestial text.

@Nathaniel - Looks like a good start so far; I'll watch out for the stirring conclusion!

Sometimes it lets me other times it doesn't. The crunchy bits should be done tomorrow

All right, let's get together a compilation of applications so far:

If I've missed anyone, let me know!

GM Rennai wrote:

Thanks! Emo is short for 'emotionally numb and detached from reality,' right? Growing up in Galt can do that to a person, I figured. I know 'tortured artist' is kind of a stereotype, but one with a firm basis in reality. Anyway, it's something I'm interested in exploring, especially in contrast to Jetta. Renato wouldn't be as openly angsty. More gazing into the horizon and wistful sighing, less broken pottery. :P

@Neirikr - As good a summary as I've heard, I think; it also refers to a cultural and artistic movement in the US that explores those themes. And yes, Galt sort of has that effect on people.

Could be worst. Could have been sold into slavery, placed in the fighting pits, promised freedom, duped and lead to the mines, and almost die in the harsh desert climate.

Oh Qidara, a tough parent you are!

GM Rennai wrote:

Actually Hoss'r is a Fighter so he has full BAB.

I am working on it now!!

Haha. No worries about the special characters. I basically ripped the accents from an online translator, but I may get rid of them to make it easier on everyone.

@Nathaniel - Let's face facts: is there really any place in Golarion that leads to happy, well-adjusted childhoods? :P

@He'sDeadJim - Idon'tknowwhatyoucouldbetalkingabout. *shifty eyes*

Yeah, you're totally right. I was in a rush to get the list finished, so I went on autopilot a bit, and most others were going into the three-quarters bin. My bad!

@jules1 - Got it!

@Siúloír MacBruthe - I got it this time! ;) It's up to you about the special characters; I'm not bothered either way.

Lmao...well play DM...well played...

@Rennai - Huzzah! Spécîål chårâctërs!! Haha. By the way, everything is complete in the profile now, even little Huan's crunch!

Silver Crusade

So...call me an oracle because I just had a revelation. I had thought starknives were exotic weapons for some reason. I will be rebuilding Rowena as more dex-based with starknives, as it is so much more appropriate fluff-wise! It wont change her basic role much (less damage, more AC, better at rogue skills, a couple different feats). I need to go to bed to get up early, and I'm playing Hell's Rebels in F2F tomorrow, but I'll get her fixed and updated before the weekend's up!

@Rowena - Got it! Have fun in Hell's Rebels - I'm super stoked to run it for my F2F group once we finish Rise of the Runelords. :)

@Everyone - Reminder: about 48 hours left for recruitment! There's still plenty of time left for anyone who wants to put in a late-game submission, but the time is drawing near.

I'll close at 00:00 PDT on Monday morning and should have a decision no later than Tuesday morning (possibly by Monday morning). From there, the chosen will gather in Discussion to introduce themselves and make final connections, and we'll get going either late Tuesday or late Wednesday. I'm excited!

I am still going though equipment. The crunch should be up tomorrow evening or Sunday at the latest. Insomnia and migraines decided to own me for a while so computer time took a hit.

I am thinking I will be going for lighter armor and the rapier. Not a recognizable paladin and that pleases me.

@Neirikr I rather like your writer. It is very much up my alley. For some reason everything I have been making recently has been happy go lucky which is weird for me. I sincerely hope we can gaze into the horizon together since I am liking your play style event though you seem to not like my Paladin.

Dotting for Interest (Because I'm very new to this whole PbP thing and am learning from a friend, but your campaign seems very interesting and looks like a fun one to start.)

I'll figure out how to create a character here soon and try to get him/her up here soon.

@Drenel - Perfect, love newbies! :D I'll keep an eye out for your character. If your friend doesn't already have a character sheet template they like, check the initial recruitment post for one I've put together.

Hey, thanks! I'm glad you like him.

And worry not, I've got nothing against your character specifically, just the concept of loosening the restrictions for paladins in general. I'm sure Ulric will be an cool character. If Renato does end up getting picked, it would definitely be nice to have a more straight 'revolutionary' character in the party for contrast.

I've started doing some preliminary reviewing of all the submissions so far in advance of the deadline, and I've got to say - y'all aren't making this recruitment easy for me at all. :P

Hi GM Rennai,

I've been meaning to put together a submission but I just haven't been able to make time for it. So I will respectfully withdraw. Good luck to you and all the applicants and have fun!

Scarab Sages

Much the same as Tazo, as amazing as the game sounds i just havent had time to sit down and do it justice will withdraw and good luck have fun all

That is nice to know. But I am not wanting to loosen the restrictions to any major degree I love restrictions. I am more so wanting to try a not so typical paladin. Most of the objections to the class I have seen is that they are not fun to play with in groups, they are stuffy, ridged, no fun having, controlling jerks. I want to avoid that. If my first choice was shot down I would have gone with a Shelyn

The most fun Paladin I ever played was essentially a southern baptist. Super polite, wanted to spread the good word, never took offense, usually had something hilarious to say

Oh that sounds like fun. Not sure I could always be polite. The struggle of the smart@$$ is real.

@Tazo, TheNine - Such is the way of it sometimes. Best of luck to you!

@DAA - Shelynite paladins are quite fun. My half-orc covered in tattoos and fighting in a gown (glamered full plate) isn't exactly within my GM's (very rigid) concept of paladins. I got a couple of strange looks when my first money in the game was spent on sleeves of many garments and a holy symbol tattoo.

@Korvus - That's perhaps the most polite description of Southern Baptists I've ever heard, and I grew up Southern Baptist. ;)

I was born in Kansas. I've seen some s$#!!

I am dotting for now and will try to have something up today.

Apologies, but my WoW went out yesterday morning. They are currently attempting to fix the problem, which is that a neighbor received Comcast yesterday and the techs bumped my connections.

I will complete the backstory once it is resolved. I wanted one more entry to bring him up to date timeline_wise....thanks!

Oh man, now I really want to play a paladin of Shelyn...

Neirikr wrote:

Super fun. :)

If I play a paladin again, especially in my face to face group, they'll probably be a paladin of Arshea - nothing subverts paladin expectations like worshipping the androgynous empyreal lord of sexuality and being required to have intimate encounters daily if you take the obedience feat. ;)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Lymnieris is another good option for that. His obedience seems pretty challenging, though... :P

A friend asked me to join a game and I am only wanting to play one at a time. I am going to withdraw my application. Good luck GM Rennai. I can tell you are an awesome GM/person!!

Shelyn would have been an easy sell. Though the paladin of Arshea sounds amusing.

Hello DM. Everything back in order. Nathaniel the Bull is all set, fluff and crunch.
I thank you for consideration (fingers crossed).

Brezik IronDrum comes hustling into town laden with his gear... hhave the festivities started? I have many tales and many songs to be sung .
