Warlock spell list opinions

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Am I the only one who felt the Warlock archetype from Ultimate Intrigue should have gotten the Witch spell list and not the Wizard/Sorcerer one?

I was expecting Warlocks to get hexes too.

The cabalist is the archetype that got the witch list, it's very thematic, though no hexes.

One could always VMC witch to get hexes.

Or even a choice? Yeah, I kind of wanted that too.

There is samsaran if really want a few spells of Witch list.

VMC?

Variant Multi Class from Pathfinder Unchained.

There's already a Witch-list archetype, and Witch just got an archetype with a simple Kineticist blast. Inner Sea Intrigue added rules for any class to get a Vigilante identity without spending any feats, so you can get really close to whatever you were most interested in one way or another. Think of archetypes as having a name for mechanics rather than mechanics for a name.

Or just call your Cabalist a Warlock and take the new blood hex feats from the Magical Tactics Handbook.

VMC cannot add bonus spells from another list to your base class list.

VMC was mentioned as a way to get hexes, not spells.

Yeah, I did feel the names of those two archetypes should have been switched.

Warlock seems more related to Witchcraft, while Cabalist could certainly have been the Sorcery archetype.

Alternatively, Cabalist would have made more sense as if they had some ability to join a coven (a "cabal") which would have cemented the witch connection more.

Oh well, what's in a name, right?

*shrugs* You would have gotten as many people complaining that Warlocks should be boasters, I suspect.

Blood Hexes are feats you can take with some minor pre-reqs (Int 13 and some skills). They're usable once per day per four levels plus once per day per hex. You trigger them the turn after doing damage to a target in a certain fashion, which plays well with a Cabalist's bleed effect. Witches and Shamans instead can use the hexes once per target per day, and may get bonus effects.
