Bracers of Armor Thoughts / Questions

Rules Questions

Alright, we're answering these once-and-for-all.

A) Can I cast Magic Vestment on Bracers of Armor? I would say yes.

If so, does the Armor bonus provided by the BoA stack with the Enhancement bonus provided by MV? Also yes.

B) Can BoA be enhanced with Magical properties (like Fortification, Spell-Storing, etc.)as normal armor would be? No clue. Probably a no.

Would these bonuses be considered 'off-slot' bonuses for crafting costs purposes? Again I'd say yes.

A) Bracers of Armor are not "a suit of armor or a shield" or "regular clothing". You can't cast Magical Vestment on Bracers of Armor. The other question is thus moot.

B) Read the rules for BoA - you gave the link. It details how you can add non-enhancement magical properties to BoA. The total price for a set of Bracers of Armor is based on their total effective enhancement bonus. Once you have this value, you can calculate how much they are to create. You don't need to worry about on/off-slot factors.

You can not enhance a bracers of armor with magic vestment.

A1) And why would you need to cast magic vestment on them anyway? The spell works on normal clothes. Are you naked? Are you a sorcerer that took the obedience for that one angel lord thing, where going naked gives you bonuses?

B) Unless some specific rules prevents you from doing so. The classic example would be the brawling property. Monks would love to have it on BoA, but the property specifically states it applies to light armors. Ergo, no to the bracers, since they aren't light armor. But that is just about the only exception like that I can remember (maybe there is some crazy heavy armor one?), so for the most part, grab whatever for the enhancement price.

He wants to cast it on the Bracers because, as he mentioned, he believes they stack. So +2 Bracers with +2 Magic Vestment cast on them for a +4 armor bonus.

Oh yes, I understand his goal for casting the spell. I am asking why he isn't trying to cast it on his pants instead. Thus why I referred to A1, rather than A2 (this really should be A-D).

Bracers don't really seem like a valid target for the spell, but, assuming his stacking idea was right, then he should apply it to his clothes. Don't tell me he is a wizard with a negative str score and can't afford to wear clothes.

Being (slightly) more serious, there would be little difference on whether they stack or not just because the spell was on the bracers. It is an extra complication to the discussion that... well leads to these distractions I guess.
