Interest check for a mid-level evil campaign, possibly in a month or so

Recruitment

Okay, so I was really drunk at a party a few hours ago and my mate pointed out this book called Mythic Monsters: Heavenly Host. Naturally, I came up with an idea!

Cave lector, beware reader! This is just an idea that I had while I was really drunk. As I sober up, I might decide it was all a bad idea and just scrap it. BUT, I may also choose to make this concept into an actual campaign! This is just to gauge peoples interest in the concept if I decide to do it.

The idea is Way of the Wicked as an 8th or 10th level campaign starting in book one. I read once in an early iteration of Mutants and Masterminds, not sure which one but one with a lot of d20/D&D3E analogues, that the reason supers start out at PL 10 is because the D&D equivalent in terms of power for a low-powered super is around 10th level. The PCs are not some second rate villains or rookies, they are malevolence given flesh, just under what most of us modern people would consider supervillain status, something they would quickly grow into. They will become the League of Villains from nearly the start of their career, people that their patron would honestly choose for reasons other than 'got to pick em at level one, because that is how an AP works, ya wanker'.

This would help players plan a background without the annoying power limitations of having a level one character. Seriously, think about it. Instead of playing a boring old pyromaniac wizard who can create small fizzles of flame from his hands and lit a farmer's barn on fire, you can be the sort of person who burnt an entire village to ashes with a series of fireballs in a fit of pique because of whatever reason. You weren't caught because you were some scrub who was bloody incompetent, you were caught simply because you are in a nation of heroes who stand against evil people like you.

The campaign would follow the basic plot but would be significantly harder and higher powered. For example, instead of a prison break from a dingy, half-empty slum of a prison staffed by nincompoops it would be a prison break from a place deserving of the reputation of an 'unbreakable prison', complete with well-armed guards, magic users, packs of trained blink hounds, and an abundance of magical sensors and traps... which you have to figure out how to get past while devoid of most gear!

There would probably be mythic by the end of book two and the campaign may go to 25/10 as a level cap but I haven't worked that out yet. As well, there would probably be a semi-gestalt system such as the one that I feature in my Hell's Rebels campaign, although I MIGHT go full gestalt. Not too sure on that because I may just make it a regular gestalt. Not even going into tristalt zone, because I'm not quite THAT crazy.

Yes, foes would be significantly more challenging. Talingarde is a nation of HEROES after all. They have succeeded in wiping out most remnants of evil in their rather spacious nation, so shouldn't the statblocks reflect as much? It fits the PBP format better anyway, because higher levels means shorter combat and shorter, more vicious combat allows the narrative to flow at a better rate.

It is a pretty nice idea! Count me interested!

When you make your mind about what are the creation guidelines, I'll be able to submit a concept!

yes

I'm always up for some evil. :)

Absolutely in. I would REALLY love to play in an evil campaign using a Magus archetype that I designed for Fat Goblin Games, the Battlefield Defiler. If you'd allow it as an option, I would be in for sure. :-D

Dark Archive

Oh HELLZ yes!!!!!!!!!!! =-D

I've always thought that an evil Mystic Theurge could shine, but having an evil campaign go to level 10 is...problematic. ^_^ They called me MAD they did! I'll show them! I'll SHOW THEM ALL!!

So, yeah, I hope you're still up for this when you sober up. ^_^

@Cartmanbeck: Ooo! I just read the leading blurb for the BD and it looks really interesting! So, you can just make your own flankers? That's fantastic! =)

I like the Suicide Squad vibe

Yep, that's the idea! If you'd like I'm happy to PM you the text of the archetype so you can check it out. I need to get it posted up on d20pfsrd.com... perhaps I'll do that today, while the snow is hitting us hard here in the DC area. :)

Sounds cool I would give it a try.

I have awoken from my drunken slumber and am still interested in creating this campaign!

It will probably be three or four weeks before I post an recruitment unless I can get my mate to help me balance and playtest the first book for that high of a level. Until that time, you can ask me questions about my thoughts on how things will be rules-wise, discuss character concepts with me, and ask for things that you might want included in the campaign.

Things that I have already determined are going to either work differently or be absent from available options altogether:
Paladins are disallowed for obvious reasons

Leadership will be changed to benefit the organization instead of giving adventuring aids

Most templates will not be allowed unless they are things like a watered down vampire template or lycanthrope or similar template, Paizo-only races, no custom races

Feats with a BAB +1 requirement have that requirement removed

Gestalt will work differently but better at accomplishing what it is intended for

Antipaladins can be of any evil alignment

Barbarians and bards can be lawful

The evil prestige classes that have an ability like damned have that ability removed

Players don't need a feat in order to get improved familiar

Animal companions and familiars get an archetype for free (See the animal companion and familiar archetypes on d20pfsrd for details) and will receive a general power boost that is yet to be determined

Summoners will be altered a bit so that they are less of a command a legion class and more of a Final Fantasy-esque summoner of singular beings of great power

I will probably update the Book of Vile Darkness, Exemplars of Evil, Elder Evils, and Libris Mortis content to Pathfinder levels and give updates to content if you ask nicely! I know that I will be using some updated Book of Exalted Deeds material! ^_^

Cartmanbeck: I would definitely allow it! ^_^

Are psionics allowed? I have a idea inspired by the Sith that would work really well at 10th level. It works fine in a normal campaign, and gestalt makes it even sweeter.

Hrm. If the other game I'm applying to with Hel here falls through, I will DEFINITELY try for this one! Should be a blast to play through!

Philo Pharynx: Yes! I have adored psionics since 3.5! :)

Helvetica Quinn: That's the plan: make it as awesome as possible!

Oh boy my interest is resting on Mount Everest. I'm down if you start this project up. Can you give some examples of the changes to summoner?

Dotting for interest. Starting at a higher level may make my want of a Synthesist Summoner who can turn into an aberration and back again happen. That, or I can finally play one of my decidedly evil characters.

@Infernal Mistress: YAY I"M SUPER EXCITED! This tab will be staying up in my browser for weeks now, eagerly awaiting the recruitment thread. :)

With Libris Mortis I always though playing a Brain in a Jar, thrallherder would be interesting but I may just stick with pathfinder stuff.

I am so g%$&!~n sold. Great idea for a game.

My concept is based on the Horned King from Celtic myth. A sort of Knight/Necromancer somewhat similar to Arthas from World of Warcraft, but with a more 'savage' feel.

As far as mechanics go, I'm thinking gestalt Antipaladin/Witch or Antipaladin/Oracle might be a good way to make the themes work.

Eagerly awaiting recruitment.

Okey, I was half way convinced to start but if the old evil books of 3.5 will get updated I'm totally game. Maaan, I've been dying to play a Disciple of Dispater (without 7-20 crit range shenanigans) for years.

And if DoD isn't allowed there's still plenty of stuff in those books to build a really nice super villain.

Dark Archive

I a werewolf is OK, I'd like to make a sadistic and bloodthirsty hunter!

Very interested! I've got a Rebirth Psychic I've been looking forward to including in a higher-level game, and tenth is perfect. Body-hopping shenanigans will abound.

Doomed Hero: Nice! That's a, at least least in America, rather obscure figure, so Kudos! ^_^

EmissaryOfTheNorth: DoD is awesome! The initiation ritual I read, having the pentacle of Asmodeus carved into your chest and filled with molten iron that is allowed to harden, is pretty metal! Quite literally! :P

Sir Longears: The template is fairly weak, so yes, I would say so!

QuidEst: Kind of like the old Thief of Lives classic villain, right? "I take your fortune, now I take your existence."

There will be two slotted players using a character that is part sorceror, part some sort of time-manipulator and a necromancer of some sort respectively. There is going to be three or four slots open for the campaign, so there should be plenty of room for others to apply! ^_^

Interest still high on this?

Working on the niggling little details of the CC process right now, which may be subject to change after I run through it with a party or two.

I cannot remember if there is a free PG supplement for WotW or not. Is there? If not, I will probably get around to making one! ^_^

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Absolutely! I would like to start building my character, if you can give us some general requirements. Level, point buy, starting gold, and number of traits would get us started. :-D

Yep, still very very interested!

And as it turns out, there is indeed a Player's Guide!

Yes!

Almost finished with the base recruitment for you guys!

Noodling power level expectations is an interesting chore but one that I have had a bit of fun with. I finally decided on a 'better gestalt' option that is a more high-powered version of the one that is in my Hell's Rebel semi-gestalt.

I'm interested in playing a half-dragon if that is allowed.

Official recruitment

Yay! DoD allowed! Seriously, is one of my favorite evil classes. And not only because it makes crit fishing easy, the spell-like abilities are both flavorful and very useful if you have some creativity (Hello Erinyes, Hello Rusting Grasp 15 consecutive rounds!)
