So it was asked by someone else, but due to political talk the thread was closed without a definitive answer.

What does this replace since Half-Elves don't have skilled?

Might we assume the intent was Adaptability?

After all, the trait IS PFS legal which is therefore kind of odd, as how do you take it?

which book is it from?

Heroes of the Streets.

Oh, Inspire Imitation.

It seems like a really weak trade for Adaptability, but most trades do.

Dark Archive

Well yeah I kinda agree, but it would be fun if it was for RP. So yeah, it's apparently technically PFS legal but... how can it be when half-elves don't have "skilled" ?

Seems a fair trade, if you're a class like Bard with points to spare. Less so otherwise.

I think yeah adapt is likely the one that got shunted given the content.

Please FAQ this. Especially now that they are doing the "clarification" documents for PFS now.

Dark Archive

Slight bump just to remind everyone of this, hopefully we can get it entered into the PFS clarification document, even if not the actual FAQ.

Sometimes half-elves are born with no obvious elven features. Their parents may even be humans with only faint traces of elven blood. They gain the human’s SKILLED racial trait. In addition, they receive a +4 racial bonus on Disguise checks to appear human. This racial trait replaces adaptability, keen senses, and low-light vision.

But you can't do multiple replacements on the same racial trait. The Skilled racial feature acquired as part of an alternate racial trait cannot itself be replaced.

Completely out of curiosity, is that a rule somewhere?

I actually gave the wrong reason why it wouldn't work. The Advanced Race Guide (as well as, I think, the Advanced Player's Guide) has the following text:

"To take one of these alternate racial traits, you must exchange one or more of the existing standard racial traits available to the race. You can exchange one or several of the standard racial traits, but you cannot exchange the same racial trait more than once."

It is actually the first sentence in that quote rather than the second that stops you. Since Skilled is not a standard racial trait available to half-elves, you cannot exchange it for another alternate racial trait.

According to https://paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/clarifications it replaces the SKILL FOCUS feat.

I doubt they're worried about it 5 years after they asked their question.

But it is useful for those that will search for it in the future.
Good necro.
