Damage Types?

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

For some reason, I can't find the complete list of damage types (bleed, sonic, cold, fire etc) anywhere in the official PRD.

Can someone PLEASE provide a a quick link?

Thanks!!!!

They don't have a list of all of them because it's not 100% known as to what they all are.

But, here's a generic sum of the damage types:

Physical
Bludgeoning
Slashing
Piercing
- (This includes all 3 physical types, only relevant for DR purposes)
Elemental
Acid
Cold
Electricity
Fire
Force
Sonic
Positive Energy
Negative Energy
Miscellaneous
Bleed
Untyped (Could be anything, and stacks with itself, but also can't be negated unless something specifically says otherwise)

If there is anything outside of this, people can feel free to state them and list the source of where they got it.

Dark Archive

Flame Strike might do "Divine Damage" or it could be untyped damage, the text is unclear about the type, but clear that it cannot be resisted.

Spoiler:

Half the damage is fire damage, but the other half results directly from divine power and is therefore not subject to being reduced by resistance to fire-based attacks.

Good catch

Along those lines, "hellfire damage" seems to be a thing, - half fire and half something else, referred to as "unholy damage" or "evil energy."

This is found in quite a lot of places. It shows up in spells (flame strike, hellfire ray), abilities (diabolist's channel hellfire, Asmodeus' hellfire blast boon), magic items (hell's eye, avernus claw), and several different devils: heresy devils, immolation devils, chortovs, and infernal dukes.

Radiation?
it is a poison effect, but I think to have seen some radiation effect that do HP of damage.

Whoah man!

I thought none of those are damage types. All untyped.

B/P/S are the only damage types that exist.

Don't ask me. I don't get either.

You're being obtuse because you "think" griping your belt allows you to hold fire and do slashing damage.

It's not amusing, and just trolling.

... Anyway, that doesn't really matter for this thread.

Let's just talk about "damage types" as the OP is referring to them: in the sense that they include cold, fire, sonic, and whatnot.

Can anyone think of any others?

Not off the top of my head, I'd count radiation as the poison it is, personally. Do shadow illusionary spells do a specific type of damage?

Nope.

Let's see:

"Nonlethal" and "lethal" are types in a sense, but not in the same way as most of these others. Then again, "bleed" isn't really a damage type in that way either.

Fiendish Vessel Cleric has a "Channel Evil" ability that works like channeled negative energy but heals evil creatures and harms good ones. But I don't think that would actually count as a damage type.

Ghosts deal damage from supernatural aging, but that's not listed as a type either.

Ah, here we go!

Pressure damage is named in the CRB Environment section and mentioned by name in at least four other abilities that provide immunity to it. I think this qualifies.

"Poison damage" comes close, but it's almost always used in a vague enough way (e.g. "ongoing poison damage") that it could just be saying "damage caused by poison" rather than specifying a certain type.

Oh, and Darksol's "elemental damage" category should really be referred to as "energy damage" because that seems to be the accepted rules term for damage from any of those groups.

How is it irrelevant?

Talking about damage types, in a thread about damage types, is irrelevant?

I was referring more Cavall's comment about gripping.

I don't mind discussing whether fire and the like should be considered "damage types" in a rules sense, but that's not really what the OP was asking. And nobody was really disputing it here until you brought it up.

Liberty's Edge

Correct! That kind of debate is fine for another thread, but not here.

For some reason, I could have sworn there was some like a holy damage type, or sacred, divine etc. I know there is a sacred bonus, but for some reason I was thinking there was a corosponding damage type.

I may well have been thinking of the kind of wishy washy wording of flame strike ...

There are some third party publishers that use Divine and Profane Damage (such as Dreamscarred Press) which might be what you were thinking of Marc.

In the olden days, Hellfire was 1/2 Fire, 1/2 Negative Energy; though was an unofficial 'type' (as it was a combination of two).
