well, just so it can't be said i don't stick my foot in my mouth, i'm going to continue the grand tradition of arguing with the GM once a ruling has been finalized, that was taught to me by Melinda and Tollin...
It says, "alternatively or in addition to..." that would seem to indicate that it's both... you can do a password as well as using characteristics. You argument that...
I read "in addition to" as "and" rather than "or", and "alternatively" as "in place of", so to me that reads as password, wolf, or password-and-wolf.
doesn't really make sense to me. But I will go with, because the GM said so.

Well ... my logic makes sense to me. But if you really, really want to use a method that is both more complicated and easier for your enemies to penetrate, I'll ... do my best to help come up with something appropriate?
bah, logic. i don't need logic. i am argumentative ;)
i figured it could be a problem, if it were keyed to wolves, since that would mean any wolf could walk in, but then i thought, bah, consequences.
anyway, like i said, i defer to your ruling. :)

I am also champing at the bit to have a combat where Kalimac can show off the unmitigated horror that is his Charging a Challenged Enemy.
granted... it was 11th level, but I remember a single charge doing 100 hp of damage (edit: add) TO ME
and the enemy wasn't a cavalier :)
our poor poor foes

Kyrademon |

I won't be quite that horrifying yet. But it will have an average damage of 28 hp. Plus, with Ride-By-Attack, Attatoq and I will start out 80 feet away, hit the enemy, then be 80 feet away at the end of the round. All without provoking AoOs.
At some point, you will crit on a lance charge while Challenging.
And watch your enemy basically explode.

Kyrademon |

Kalimac -- It looks like you took Spirited Charge as your fifth level feat based on your damage, but for some reason I do not see the actual feat listed anywhere on your sheet.
Please pick the skills associated with the feat you selected for Attatoq.
Other than that, your character is APPROVED.

Spirited Charge is in the STATISTICS block, under feats. Right after Ride-by Attack.
And that's weird. I have the skills for Attatoq's Cosmopolitan feat listed on my backup copy, but somehow not on the online copy. I'll fix that.

Brief rambling note:
So, my interest piqued by the other GM who came in to comment on this thread, I went and took a glance at some of the other ongoing Jade Regent PBPs on the boards. There appear to be about three others, starting at various times. Two of them are finishing up Brinestump and one has just gotten to Brinewall.
One thing I found interesting is that all four games, ours and theirs, took roughly the same number of posts to get through Brinestump. However, the one which is at Brinewall got there MUCH earlier than we did, postwise -- roughly around post 1,000 for them and roughly around post 3,000 for us, give or take a couple hundred.
I was curious as to why, and discovered that for them, the two-week journey from Sandpoint to Brinewall, which was a super-important part of the game that took 2,000 posts for us, was wrapped up for them in something more like 50 posts.
I'm not making a good-vs-bad judgment here (if anyone involved in that game in any way happens to glance over here for whatever reason, it looked like a totally fun game to me, as did the other two) -- especially since I realized that if I were running this as a tabletop game, I might very well have summed up that whole trip in a statement like "two weeks later, you arrive at Brinewall".
So if anything, this is more a reflection on my change in priorities as a GM of a PBP game. What I choose to emphasize and de-emphasize actually seems to be quite different from my tabletop style.

That, and there's less worry that a side discussion will derail the fun for the rest of the party. It's easy to scroll past the Alaric/Mel stuff that doesn't pertain to you. In a tabletop game, the rest of us would be rolling our eyes at the two players, urging them to wrap it up. In a PBP game they have all the room in the world to run with it.

...he said, glaring bitterly at Ameiko and muttering in spoilered Halfling. :)

Infernal hasn't been determined yet. And I think Gujarati is still free:
યાતનામય હજુ આવી નથી નક્કી છે. અને મને લાગે છે કે ગુજરાતી હજુ પણ મુક્ત છે.
Since Abyssal has been decided as Urdu...
How about we keep the three related languages (Abyssal, Infernal, and Celestial) tied together too?
Maybe Arabic for Celestial and Persian for Infernal?
Celestial: هذه هي لغة الملائكة. <- This is the language of angels.
Infernal: این زبان از شیاطین است. <- This is the language of devils.
Abyssal: یہ راکشسوں کی زبان ہے. <- This is the language of demons.
Or too similar?

Kyrademon |

It's also a matter of certain things being easier for me in a PBP. I've had this many NPCs running around in some tabletop games, but it made trying to hold group conversations feel like I had multiple personality disorder. It's a lot easier here. Certain other things are harder than in tabletop. They really do suit themselves well to different things.

The GM will note that similarity among these languages makes sense at least from an etymological standpoint in my game world.

Rhost, some of your weapons are listed twice under gear. Other than that, Rhost is APPROVED.
Additionally ... I'm not seeing the stuff Sandru recommended you buy (snowshoes, furs, skates, skis, etc.) on a lot of sheets yet. If you haven't bought it yet (or for some reason weren't intending to), that's fine. I just wanted to make sure people hadn't bought it and forgotten to write it down.

Kyrademon |

Alaric, Archon's Aura is a Lawful-aligned spell. I believe it was decided that your particular brand of lack of faith operated as a functionally Chaotic Neutral concept in terms of allowed spells under the rules, meaning you cannot cast Lawful spells, and would need to select a different one. (If you don't remember that or remember it differently, let me know and I'll try to look up what was decided, since I haven't double-checked, but I'm pretty sure that was the case.)
Other than that, Alaric is APPROVED.

Kyrademon |

Myriana, you don't appear to have increased your hit points in your stat block -- they should be 32 (5d10) now, no?
Other than that, Myriana is APPROVED.
(And I heartily approve both of your new Craft skill and your new Favored Enemy choice. Shalelu is going to take a very similar, although not identical, favored enemy next time she has the opportunity.)

Kyrademon |

Question, since Xander has a virtual point in Profession: cooking (and thus a +2 modifier) can he use the aid another action to help Rhost cook?
And if he is with Mel, can he aid knowledge checks?
Cooking: ... yes, if you can convince Rhost to let him help.
Knowledge: Only if or when he is capable of communicating with you easily using language. Writing could potentially work on an extended research check, but not on an immediate "What is that?" kind of check.

A number of us recently came to the conclusion that Ameiko is Kirk, Shalelu is Spock, Koya is Bones, and Sandru is Scotty, but not with those voices. Must be one of them re-imaginings you hear about.
That's... uncanny. Ameiko is doing way too little shirt-ripping for a Kirk though.
I guess that makes us redshirts...?
