Dance of ruin

Advice

My last game session I was GMing, I had 3 vrocks in the "dance of ruin" 2nd turn of the dance. One of the party's caster had a spell that opeded a pit 30ft under one of the vrocks. Would this in your humble opinions constitute a "disruption" of the dance of ruin? another party memeber casts Silence". How about that?

Thanks

well, dropping a vvrock down the pit would definitely disrupt the dance, unless the dance had a audible component though i don't think Silence would affect it

Not sure if either would stop the dance of ruin.

Vrocks fly and can easily pass the check to hover in place (and as flying demon birdmen, I'd assume they can dance in mid-air), so I wouldn't expect opening a pit to actually do anything.

Silence probably won't do anything either - the vrock must be physically prevented from dancing somehow. It's your call whether stopping the chanting is good enough.

Vrocks fly. Why weren't they dancing up in air (like circling vultures), where they would be less likely to be disturbed?

One could always say that the vrocks had actually been flying all the time (all that wing-flapping was not just part of the dance itself). It had just looked as if they were standing on the ground because they had been flying only a couple of inches off the ground. (Size Large moving targets - who's going to notice a small detail like that?)

ETA: Ninja'ed! Drat you, RL distractions! :)

And +1 for the Silence not doing anything to disrupt it. It's a Dance of Ruin, not a Song of Ruin.

Our party struck a group of Vrocks that tried the same trick. Being the brilliant individuals we are, we reasoned that dead Vrocks could not dance. Obvious perhaps, but it worked really well.

The dance of ruin involves dancing and chanting so yes silence negates.

The Dance of Ruin is so powerful, it's crazy strong if they can Dance while flying. I think it makes sense that they have to land for it, though text should be more clear.

Thanks all. I saw in the monster's discription of "Dance", that chanting was part of it's "flavoring" and was a convient rules loop hole for the party to exploit with silence and/or cheezy(hate that spell)Beleive you me, they have used that spell in past encounters to take away monster's main power! They got real cocky with that ability.

One of the them fell in the pit and was full attacked by the vrock, got a crit on him, and he died. I'm not a killer GM and do not go out of my way to kill a character that a PC has put time, effort and imagination into creating. I beleive that Charcters are heros and should be seen that way by any good GM.

Just a note: in Wrath of the Righteous, there's at least one encounter where

Spoiler:
a number of vrocks begin flying to start their dance of ruin.

yeah, but Vrocks (especially multiple) are more difficult than a 7th level party is expected to be able to deal with easily. So tossing them a bone might not have been a bad idea.

That's not wrong at all. I just like to quote official material so people know where the system stands - whether people should run it that way is another thing entirely. ^_^

BTW, I'm Running Rappan Athuk.(for Pathfinder)I've stressed to them the importance of having a back-up ready. They know what they are in for.
They have 8 members 7th to 8th lvl.
They don't call it "the dungeon of graves" for nothing. Want to make it exciting for them and me.
But, considering calibrating it back In favor of the party.
Players seem to like how i run it. They keep coming back to the table almost every week.
I would like to think of myself as open and teachable, and so, would welcome tips at GMing.

Thank You

That explains it; they got off easy then.
