I got the pdf (and the 16 pages of Obituaries)Pathfinder rules My Setting.....
Campaign world of Greyhawk, Close to the hool marshes and dreadwood just south of Keoland. Greayhawk dieties.
I modified the sourounding area. Zelkor's Ferry is occupied by a Mecenary Cavalry company(The Longspear Lancers)80 From the Yeomanry
Owner and comander Lord Dolphine(Bored, rich Minor Noble's son)
Who cares not for the Town or his soldiers.
Zelkor's Ferry is a small, up and comming tradeing post with an incompleat Sawmill, and ship yard.(think Deadwood SD 1876, The 10 towns/Icewind dale).plus RP's original town

Another new sight I installed
Fort Hope walled city on a bluff new military camp to guard the workers who are building a north/south road
Mixed force from the Kingdom Of Keoland(Comanded By a Palidin of Heironious, Sir DeFloura) and 300 Caviliers,Palidins and Men at Arms 100 roadbuilders,Camp followers, quary workers. stone quary and fresh water lake to supply the fort.(think Old FT Detriot 1700's)With new temple to Heironious(semi-compleated.

High cliffs and marshes make the whole area very difficult to get acces by The Azure Sea (Better, new road from Keoland to the North, to Ft. Hope Or from Wild Edge river from yeomanry To Zelkor's Ferry)I made some modifications to the Outside RP souronding area. Pc's can have a huge impact on area if they wanted and they do(leaves more of a roleplaying/world building aspect to RP than just "the Dungeon" Plus new mineral/gem discoveries( GOLD,Copper, tin, darkwood ect, ect)

The Suel Brotherhood is also looking to "settle" this piece of land for themselves to futher thier slaver/so-called superior Empire From Westbrook in the Hool Marshes to the south. They have plans to make a forward base around this area so they can March on to Keoland or Yeomanry(not to mention mining/mineral rights

What do you think of my ideas?

(

Two different starting places

Yes. Ageed to all. " No plan survives contact with the enemy"
(party) we are suposed to get xwz treasure and xyz xp for this encounter

Boo hoo.

(party) we can craft any item in the book.

(party) the rules said we can do this.

(Party) we never run away.

(party) all merchants Have all the components/raw materials/magic Items

/at cost and buy all out loot at normal costs, after all, we are the party.

(party) we are not subjected to adverse weather/we never get hungy/thirsty. and never get tired.

(party) everytown has Ye auld Walmart to suport our party everywere and in every location next door to encounters.

BAHHHH!!!

Thats why I really love this Dungeon, and made a whole campaign out of it. It took centuries to make Rome a super-power. PC's need to tame the wilderness of the Dungeons near by towns to develope the supply base they want. Not to mention, rivals(political/monitary.

To be fair the dungeon is quite specifically designed for a site based style of play. It is a dungeon crawl in the sense that it all takes place in a massive dungeon. It's not a plot driven adventure path.

All too often you run into something far beyond what you should way too early, including a monster that we ran into at 3rd level with epic DR.

Personally I find this one of the best features of the module. I know what encounter you're talking about and yes it is not one the PC's can "win". One of the things I hate about the modern version of the game is this idea that the player's will only encounter CR appropriate beasties and to be able to predict in advance exactly how much treasure they are going to get because it is in the rules.

I think players having to think very hard about how to withdraw from an encounter which totally outclasses them just does not happen enough anymore. Events like this make my imaginary world seem more real to me.

dot. this is a great thred btw

Out standing ! great idea. There is always a "cost" collateral damage.

BTW, I'm Running Rappan Athuk.(for Pathfinder)I've stressed to them the importance of having a back-up ready. They know what they are in for.
They have 8 members 7th to 8th lvl.
They don't call it "the dungeon of graves" for nothing. Want to make it exciting for them and me.
But, considering calibrating it back In favor of the party.
Players seem to like how i run it. They keep coming back to the table almost every week.
I would like to think of myself as open and teachable, and so, would welcome tips at GMing.

Thank You

Thanks all. I saw in the monster's discription of "Dance", that chanting was part of it's "flavoring" and was a convient rules loop hole for the party to exploit with silence and/or cheezy(hate that spell)Beleive you me, they have used that spell in past encounters to take away monster's main power! They got real cocky with that ability.

One of the them fell in the pit and was full attacked by the vrock, got a crit on him, and he died. I'm not a killer GM and do not go out of my way to kill a character that a PC has put time, effort and imagination into creating. I beleive that Charcters are heros and should be seen that way by any good GM.

My last game session I was GMing, I had 3 vrocks in the "dance of ruin" 2nd turn of the dance. One of the party's caster had a spell that opeded a pit 30ft under one of the vrocks. Would this in your humble opinions constitute a "disruption" of the dance of ruin? another party memeber casts Silence". How about that?

Thanks

GM says: The friendly NPCs abruptly tie you down and are immune to all your attempts to escape or reason with them.

GM means: You are going on the damn quest the NPCs just gave you, no matter how incredibly suicidal and illogical it sounds. And you'll like it.

GM says: The NPC that refused your bribe immediately responds to the same bribe given by another NPC, who shows up to save your bacon... again.
GM means: I never bothered to tell you this, but you're just extras in a campaign I'm really playing with someone else, where the NPCs in your game are the PCs in mine.

OK, they're a bit odd... but on the other hand, they actually happened.

HAHAHA so true so true
