Persistent Spell and Battle Cry (or other save reroll abilities)

Rules Questions

I was just wondering how Persistent Spell interacts with things like Battle Cry that allow you to reroll a failed save.

My assumption is that because PS says "Whenever a creature targeted by a persistent spell or within its area succeeds on its saving throw against the spell [...]" that means that they'll have to reroll their reroll if it succeeds.

I could also see that it's independant and not affected by the persistent nature of the spell. Any ideas? (note: this would also apply to things like Protection from Evil)

Yes, they're independent but not necessarily automatic.

Take your first example, Persistent Spell comes into play only if you initially make your save. If you make it then PS makes you re-roll. If you fail the re-roll then you can choose to end the Battle Cry effect on you for a last chance re-roll of your re-roll to once again save. BC requires that you choose to use it, where PS is an automatic re-roll. In this case though, the effects are finalized after you either accept the PS re-roll results or after this final BC re-roll of the re-roll.

Second you mention Protection from Evil. As above, PS will trigger only if you save in the first place, and the PfE possession re-roll will trigger only if the PS re-roll failed. In this case though both are automatic, but if the effects of the spell that was subject of the PS last longer than the duration of the PfE spell, the failed save effects revert back to what they were prior to the re-roll made save PfE effect.

I believe Manwolf has the right of it, but to try and make it clearer:

Initial Saving Throw:
--> Succeeds? Persistent Spell forces a reroll:
-----> Succeeds? Okay, they're good.
-----> Fails? Uht-oh. Use that Battle Cry reroll:

---------> Fails? Too bad, they're out of luck.

Thank you, yes, your texty flowchart does make it easier to follow.
