The Forgotten God Re-Recruitment #2 [High-Power, High-Challenge]

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 154 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | next > last >>

Unfortunately, real-life issues have taken away a great member of this forum community, and that's left me in need of a replacement player for this high-power, high-challenge game. More information can be found in the original recruitment thread, and you'll be joining the only two-player table - which, incidentally, is the one attached to that thread if you want to look over how it's gone so far.

Things to Know:

-I'll want the selected character to build at Level 3, since you'll be entering once the current player wraps up this scenario. You will not have your first Divine Ability, but getting that will probably be your first mission.
-I don't want you to build your crunch yet. These are complicated characters, and the only person who should have to spend the time figuring all of this out is the one joining the game. If you want to build yours anyway, just for fun, that's fine... but don't feel obligated to. Also, it's MUCH easier in Hero Lab. (<- Shameless plug for great software. Those who have it will understand.)
-To apply, I want you to tell me about your deity. Explain their history, what position they had in the pantheon, their relationship with other deities, and generally who they were. Try not to be too similar to deities who already exist - that could get awkward.
--Ten Minute Backgrounds are a good start, though you'll need the other information as well.
--I also want you to tell me about your intended class picks and ability setup. Again, I don't need the full crunch, but I want to know what party roles you'll be having and generally how you plan to play the character. Given how complex your character can be, you should be able to fulfill several roles in the party - if you focus all of your power into doing one thing insanely well, you will not be chosen. Think broad power and diversity, not stacking massive damage.

I will be judging your submissions on the following elements:

-Literacy (I value in-depth, descriptive posting)

-Creativity (I know Paizo has already covered a lot of ideas - put your own spin on things! Also, while I'm not going to dictate your character's theme, I am going to ask that you abide by whatever theme you choose. For example, if your deity has a theme of "Light", then they shouldn't be choosing Darkness spells, hiding in shadows, or generally doing dark-ish things. Your character is a deity - play that up when thinking about how they'd view things and behave.)

-Consistency (Members of the board who've been around for quite awhile will be given more priority - RL issues have already made two players in this game drop, and I really don't want that to happen again. A really good submission will probably get picked regardless, but if you can convince me you're going to honestly commit to this game, then you'll be moved up the list.)

-Match with the Current Player (Hadran, God of Valor and Knowledge, is the one still hanging around... if your character would rather fight him instead of your actual enemies, you're not gonna be picked. XD I'll be discussing submissions with him, too, and his opinion will be factored into my final decision. Try to impress both of us.)

-Good Sense (Your characters are mythic three-class gestalts with optional templates. You would have to deliberately avoid every principle of decent character design in order to be weak. Do not look at this as an opportunity to min-max and create an absurdly powerful build by combining things that were never meant to be combined. A major theme of this game is "High Power, High Challenge". You cannot build a character so powerful that I cannot find a way to challenge you... but the more your character deviates from the expected power level, the harder it is to balance things. I intend to challenge you regardless of your power level. By min-maxing, all you'd really do is make my life harder, without making things easier on yourself. Therefore, it's important to demonstrate a willingness to try and avoid being overpowered.)

The Following Themes Have Already Been Used
...and, therefore, are unlikely to be picked again. Most of these are active, so pick something else. ^^

-Valor and Knowledge
-Metamorphosis and Bestial Power
-Law and Redemption
-Morning and Renewal
-Death, Rebirth, and Fate
-Dreams and Nightmares
-Dualism and Transformation

I'll probably leave this recruitment open for a week or so, though it could be ended early for a particularly excellent submission.

Just so you know Hadran and for inspiration here is his backstory.

Backstory:

In the time before creation two angels advanced to become gods. The goddess Saranrae and her lover and companion Hadraniel. Sarenrae was elevated for her compassion, patience and sense of peace. Hadraniel was her opposite and balance in many ways. His virtues were of protection, glory, valor, and knowledge. If Sarenrae was the Dawn flower, Hadraniel was the Light of Glory. He shined brightest when faced with adversity. With these virtues they both had many followers among the first people.

Rovagug had sought to destroy the gods and all that they had created since the dawn of time. His wake brought forth great destruction. His wrath was so great that even the bickering gods decided to unite against him. Hadraniel learned all he could of the great beast. He fought valorously and struck the great blow to weaken Rovagug. It was at this moment Sarenrae was able to cast down the beast and imprison it in the hells, with the aid of Asmodeus.

Hadraniel received great glory for his contribution to the fight. His story spread among his mortal followers. They too started to feel they were part of this glory. This became too much for the young god to handle. He became brash and superior. He even started to push away his love. Sarenrae was still patient and offered compassion and understanding, trying to rein Hadraniel back. Even she was unable to stop the change. Soon his valor turned to wrath, his glory turned to bloodlust. He pushed and urged his followers to seek war, vengeance and strife. He had strayed from his path. He had not yet become the next great beast of destruction, but Sarenrae would not wait to see this happen.

It was hard to keep secrets from the god of knowledge, but Sarenrae met in secret with the other virtuous gods. They came up with a plan. They wanted to steal his power, and hide it away. They would disperse the power through artifacts throughout the land. If Hadraniel would be worthy again, he would find these artifacts and take his power back. This task was not easily done. The gods of virtue had to enlist the help of Asmodeus once again. They entered into one of his contracts and he was able to put the finishing touches on the suppression spell.

The pieces were now set. Sarenrae would have to throw him down, much like she did with Rovagug. She was sad for what must pass, but knew her love would one day be redeemed. She made her move. Hadraniel was easily overtaking by the surprise attack. In a few moments the struggle was over. Hadraniel’s powers had been suppressed and divided out. The conscious had been put into a mortal body. He laid in slumber for many centuries while his left over power gathered.

Hadraniel’s secret was kept among the gods, but as with all things fate intervened. The followers of Rovagug had learned of the god’s demise, discerned where his mortal body rested. Hadraniel lay waiting defenseless. He had no followers of his own and was now a forgotten god. Though Rovagug and his followers had not forgotten the blow he struck. A small party was set out to find and destroy Hadraniel’s mortal body. The group determined the body rested in a cave in the great Qadirian desert.

Something stirred the conscious of Hadraniel. Maybe it was the approaching danger. Maybe it was Sarenrae sending a warning to her former love. Whatever it may have been, Hadraniel awoke. He awoke on the ground staring up to the cave ceiling. Slowly he blinked his eyes reflecting back on what had happened. The memories flooded through his mind. He remembered everything. He slowly sat up stretching his arms. He looked from fingertip to fingertip. I, I am a mortal. Was I truly so unjust in my ways. After a moment of thought he continued to look over his new body. He stood slowly realizing the strengths and flaws of the body given to him. He stretched again and again loosing up all the muscles that had lain dormant so long. So I am to prove myself worthy am I? I am truly sorry for what I had become. I will prove myself to all of you again. I will be by your side once again my love. Do not forget or give up on me.

The next few moments were spent in reflection and loosing up. After this, Hadraniel took a look around the cave. Beside him was a simple shirt and pants made of animal hides. Also there was a spiked glove and massive sword. He took a few moments to cloth himself. He then picked up the sword. At first it was heavy. He put the tip to the ground and leaned the pommel back to his shoulder. He slowly ran his hands along the steel, remembering all the battles he had waged. He then took his right hand up to the pommel. He rubbed the image there. It was a sun setting behind a shield with a great sword running along the center of it facing down. My holy symbol. He smiled. From there his hand slid along the grip. It seemed the leather was fresh as if the sword was just crafted. As he felt the grip, he tightened and loosened his hand. Remembering what it was to have the strength to wield a blade. A moment later his grip tightened and he brought the blade up to his face. His left hand came to the grip resting now under the right. Let us see if I remember how to do this. A moment later he through his body into motion. He started a long lost battle dance. The blade seemed as one with him. It was an extension of his body.

Now awake and full of his memories it was time to start his quest. The fates as they are, chose this time for the followers of Rovagug to show up. Seems they were expecting the body to be in slumber and were not prepared for a fight. Hadraniel recognized the symbol emblazed on them right away. He wasted no time launching into both his battle dance and tapping into the strength that flowed in his blood. His strikes were hard and fast. It seemed he had just a touch of divine power still. He could heal this mortal body and ward off attacks as well. In a matter of seconds the followers were slain. Not good not only does Rovagug have followers, but they seem to be aware of me. Guess redemption is not an easy thing.. He took what supplies he could off the men. He cared most about having enough water upon realizing he was in the desert. At least I can follow there track for a bit, maybe there is a town close. I will call myself Hadran for now as well, best not to alert any more potential enemies. With these final thoughts Hadran set out into the desert following the tracks. Only the fates know what lie ahead.

I've run some very high powered campaigns myself irl, so I know what you mean by the challenging players thing.
I'm thinking of a Slayer, Wizard, Magus combination that would be a sort of bounty hunter for the gods. I'll work on the backstory and themes once I get off of work.

So let me see if I understand this correctly, are we choosing a deity that we worship or a deity that we want our characters based off of?

Neither. Your character is a deity - an original one - but they've lost most of their power.

Potentially interested.

Shadow Lodge

Not sure if I'll have time to come up with anything or not, but I'm dotting.

I have a thought of a Druid/Magus/Rogue who was once an exemplar of the Elven Pantheon until a slight to Calistria so enraged her that her exacting revenge cast him down as a forgotten god.

Dotting interest ... I ran a search on this thread, the campaign thread, and did not see my answer. Is a Prestige Class consider one of the (3) Classes? I know some GMs do while others do not.

Prestige Classes can't be taken yet (gotta wait until after Level 5). The main point is that prestige classes should fall within the build guidelines, which exist to kind of mandate diversity in the character build. Being able to do multiple things well is important, given the small number of characters here.

daemonprince, you should know that the player characters shouldn't know which deity betrayed them. There's an in-game reason for the mystery.

Roger that! I was thinking after my post, while there are a couple things I like about the prestige class in mind, it is not tremendously important.

How is the following?

1. (Covert, Armored) Soulknife
2. (Aberrant Skin) Aegis
3. Psychic Mage (Wizard)

1a (Soulknife - Not a Spell Caster) - There are no archetype conflicts. Covert grants the character Rogue abilities and Armored is to compliment the Aberrant Aegis skin armor.

2a (Aegis - probably would be considered a light spell caster) - The plan here is fill in the character with abilities that will compliment his/her other abilities or his/her other classes can not.

3a (Psychic Mage - Full Spell Caster) - The plan here is arcane, psionic powers, and healing (mostly self but there are powers that I can use on others).

Theme: God of Skill Prowess (More of a Facade) and the Secret God of the Dark Tempests (that was the Prestige class I was thinking about but the combination of my choices does resemble a Dark Tempest).

That would be slightly more possible if I had any idea what a Dark Tempest was. Also, I wouldn't expect too many "Secret Gods" here, as deities are typically very open about what they believe. Individual details may vary (there are some who like to hide behind masks or maneuver in secret, for example), but they're generally not going to lie about what they stand for.

As for the Aegis, I believe it would quality as an entirely non-casting class. The Soul Knife... I don't think those archetypes are listed on d20pfsrd or in the files for Hero Lab. I'd need access to them in order to review them.

Liberty's Edge

I was lurking on this game for a while when it first started so I'm definitely interested.

I'm leaning toward the forgotten orcish god of strength and independence. Should the reason for our godly exile be part of our background?

Oops, I apologize, it is Armored Blade and Cutthroat Archetypes to be specific. Cutthroats go through Covert Training so I used Covert instead of Cutthroat.

Cutthroat Archetype

Armored Blade Archetype

Here is the Dark Tempest ....

From the Ultimate Psionics Rules:

Secretive to the extreme, the Dark Tempests are so called for their ancient warrior techniques, melding mastery over the inner self with the physical manifestation of the mind blade. Their techniques revolve around the fusion of their weapon and their mind into a deadly force capable of crushing an enemy’s body and mind. Each of the tempests must find his own path through the darkness, to arrive on the other side filled with their personal discoveries. Legends claim that the tempests force a prospective candidate to meditate alone in utter darkness for a week, with but a bowl of water and a piece of bread. Those that survive the ordeal are welcomed, but only those that prepare for years manage it.

Dark Tempest

As for Secret Gods, how about one of these?

1. Secret God to both - God of Skill Prowess (this hides his secondary theme of being the secret god of the Dark Tempest). The Dark Tempest act as hidden worshipers and insurance policy.

2. Or, his Dark Tempest theme is only secret to mortals outside the secret order of Dark Tempest but the gods know about it.

@Feral: Backgrounds can go up to the point where your character was hit by a surprise attack and scattered their power for later retrieval (getting them back is the primary goal of the campaign, and what much of your efforts will revolve around). You should not decide exactly who attacked you or why - that way, any time you interact with the representatives of another deity, you get to wonder if they're actually an enemy.

@Anderlorn: If it hasn't been officially updated and reprinted, then unfortunately, it's not available for this game. The archetypes are just fine, though.

(Also, seriously, don't think about being a "Secret God". XD Just have them BE that god and simply not go around advertising what they're all about.)

Dark Tempest has been printed, it is in the Ultimate Psionics Book but I don't have to use it to still be the God of Dark Tempests.

Liberty's Edge

I apologize for whatever typos there are but this is what I've thrown together before I head to the gym. Let me know what you think thus far.

Background:
Skaar, the Unfailing Pillar, is an ancient god of strength, independence, and hope. Though he has roots in the orc pantheon, like the elven goddess Calistra, he had worshipers among many peoples and went by different names to each of them. His servants were dreamers, loners, madmen, and heroes.

The Unfailing Pillar was born out of the primordial chaos of creation alongside the rest of the orcish pantheon such as Dretha, Nulgreth, and Zagresh but from the very beginning he stood apart. Where his brothers and sisters goaded their bestial progeny on to violence and savagery, Skaar sought his own path and in doing so inspired others. It was Skaar's belief that there was no glory in meaningless bloodshed and that conquest without adversity was no accomplishment. And, it's a little known fact that it was Skaar that nurtured ambitious young orcish minds and encouraged them to seek the surface alongside their longtime rivals during the Age of Darkness and the Quest for the Sky. It was his brothers and sisters that turned those dreams toward war and mutual destruction.

Skaar's defiance in the face of what the rest of his pantheon demanded from the orcs made him few friends among his own kind and, as a result, he often walked the planes alone visiting and mingling with other pantheons. His was a perilous path but he found worshipers among every people he touched from young dwarves in their halls of stone that sought ways to break free from a culture mired in inflexible tradition to the fey-touched gnomes that knew him as a god of innovation. Through the ages anyplace living creatures sought confirmation in beliefs that left them isolated their prayers eventually reached him and Skaar often reached back providing strength and will when mortals needed it the most.

But no man or god is an island and Skaar's teachings did not forbid the building of friendships. His appetites were legendary and often acted as the starting point for many of the Unfailing Pillar's godly alliances. He was known to drink with Torag and his sons in their ancestral keeps and even building a friendly rivalry with his mightiest son Trudd. These appetites were not limited to food and drink and legends say that the Savored Sting called him to her bedchamber on more than one occasion.

Despite his varied, if awkward, associations at some point the Unfailing Pillar found himself under attack. It's unknown if the attack was in response to an affront he'd committed or in retribution for mingling with the wrong peoples and if he was overcome with superior force or crippled by treachery but Skaar was defeated and his divine power stripped away. Without his guidance his worshipers lost hope or died off and as the ages passed he was quickly forgotten. But a dream never truly dies and neither does a god of dreamers. One day, eons later, he awoke forgotten by the world but not without hope.

I've got some ideas for religion-based stuff like holidays and practices but I'm not sure if that's appropriate considering we're supposed to be lost to the world at this point.

As far as crunch, Skaar will be a brawler/skald/oracle. He'll be a bruiser but also have plenty of mechanics to represent empowering and inspiring others. I'm thinking he'll grab the giant template but he'll need a way to become medium because being large all the time is awkward. I'll figure out the details if he's chosen.

About Me:
I've been a fixture on the Paizo boards for a while now and I'm active in several games as both a player and a DM. I was co-DM for a Skull and Shackles PBP on these forums that played through all six books in a four months - one of three AP PBPs on these forums to ever finish. I'm also DMing a CoT game that's in the final battle of book six and am co-DMing a Second Darkness PBP that's made its way to book four in only 14 months.
In short, I'm an active regular poster that knows what it takes to keep a game moving and healthy for the long haul. =P

I'm also an involved player and I'm happy to help out in other ways outside of game such as managing spreadsheets for loot tracking, combat maps, or whatever else.

How about god of Schadenfreude and Irony?

Actually I thought it might be cool to be the god of time and fate. He would forever be trapped in the circle of time, nothing ever a surprise. No matter what he does or says will never change the events within the circle. Endlessly revolving and repeating forever.

The only relief is "the Great Upheaval". He looked forward to losing his powers. He looked forward to feeling the illusion of freewill once more. More than any other god, He covets forgetting what he once knew.

Maybe a gestalt of Monk, druid, fighter

Already have a deity of fate, and I'm trying to avoid repeats. XD Time... interesting idea, and I like it on its own merits, but unfortunately that wouldn't work in this setting. There's some background stuff you don't know yet which would prevent things like that from happening (and this is very plot-relevant).

unfortunate, thanks

Shadow Lodge

How do you feel about this class? Specifically I'm thinking with gunslinger and wizard (maybe spellslinger) eventually taking technomancer prc and basically playing a god of (magical?) technology.

What do you mean by Dualism/Transformation?

I was thinking of a Light/Dark deity, akin to Nethys, but obviously my own take.

Have other ideas as well, just curious if this would be acceptable first.

God'ess' of plants, animals and nature, harmony/balance a good idea?

Possibly Druid/Ranger/Shaman.

Was worshipped by witches, shamans and druids mostly. True Neutral alignment. Let me know if this is taken or won't work.

Reading the original recruitment I realised we can't have 2 9th level casting classes so will think further.

Also if I get selected for your Trapped beyond Time game I won't be joining any other games so I will wait for that one before going further here.

@Dylos: I'm attempting to stay away from setting-specific materials, which includes classes for things like Eberron. This, too, is actually something of a plot point within the game, and there's a reason I'm not crossing them.

@Monkeygod: Who, Hexy? It's exactly what it sounds like - she's got a thing for dual-natured beings (she likes being both honest and deceitful), and she's completely okay with shapeshifting... Mutagens are fun that way.

@HighonHolyWater: Mm-hmm - gotta have a spread of classes. ^^

So, does that mean my Light/Dark concept is out? You didn't exactly answer the question, lol

All I know is that you said Light/Dark. There are many possible ways you could do that, and I'm trying to avoid forming opinions until I see the backstory and ideas you came up with.

Shadow Lodge

Fair enough, though as a point of reference, would going towards Technomancer PrC on the caster side possibly result in having really nice abilities which are useless due to having limited tech access or could such a character expect to get a handful of tech items?

Also, I re-read through the original thread and realized I'm shooting for much the same theme I originally was interested in doing.

Though, a bit randomly (I used dice, like any real gamer would, randomly picking three domains) I also stumbled upon another idea, a god/dess of war, death, and life (war repose and healing were the domains I picked at random) one who celebrates the victors and remembers the fallen. Using a certain Elven name generator, I came up with the name Tae'Malethatria for this idea, meaning "the beloved eternal dance of war". I may try to flesh out this idea, as you seem to lack a god/dess of war.

Would Ranger/Druid/Summoner(Naturalist) work?
A nature god that calls as much help as she needs from the creatures of the world. Having a ranger companion, druid companion AND summoner eidolon COULD be a headache. Plus summoning the hordes of nature could get a bit crazy. I would have her use bow and spells while letting her eidolon or companions or summons get in Melee for her. Perhaps a way to make things simpler would be having the animal companion and eidolon blend together in a kind of gestalt of its own. Animal companion Abilities blended with eidolon Abilities. Anyway just some thoughts i had.

Umbrio is a Wayang Slayer/Shadowcaster Wizard/Myrmidarch Magus
Roles include: Ranged Combat, Support Melee, Arcane Casting (Magus = damaging touch spells, Wizard = utility spells), and lots of skills

Backstory:
Umbrio was born of both mortal and god. After Abadar had negotiated with Zon-Kuthon to keep him trapped in the Plane of Shadow, he stuck around the plane and got himself into some trouble with a Wayang woman named Luna. 9 months later came Umbrio. Luna knew he could not stay in the Plane of Shadow, because if anyone found out he was the son of Abadar, his life would be at risk.

It was a tough decision, but Luna paid a Fetchling merchant to take Umbrio to the Material Plane and find him a safe home. The merchant took him to the Material Plane, but once there, left him to die in the woods. Not much later, a couple of grizzly bears came wandering by looking for a meal. Abadar was looking down from the heavens when he saw his baby so close to death. He used his power to protect Umbrio from the bears until a pair of elven hunters passed through and saw the baby. The hunters killed the bear and took the baby into their home, raising him as their own.

Not sure who he was or where he had come from, the hunters gave Umbrio an elven name, Dawion, meaning “son of night.” They taught Dawion how to use a bow, track animals, and live off of the land with nothing.

When Dawion reached adulthood, he started to receive dreams from his real father, Abadar. He had no idea what the dreams meant and they scared him. It was at this time that he started to realize his magical abilities. Still not under control of his magic, Dawion released a blast of magic, nearly badly injuring the elven hunters who raised him. He ran away for fear of accidentally killing them and never returned to them.

As he ran, he encountered a glowing figure who stopped him in his tracks. It was a messenger angel sent by Abadar. The angel told him that Abadar wanted to speak to him in person. He was still in shock of what had just happened with his adopted parents, but knew there was no way to say no to a god, so he cautiously went with the angel. The angel took him to Abadar, where Abadar told him about his past, his mother, and the fact that he had the blood of the gods. Abadar offered Umbrio to live in the heavens with him and find the perfect job for him.

As he grew, Umbrio began to love his place in the heavens. He was given the chance to use his abilities to travel from plane to plane and maintain any great threats of chaos. He was known as the god of punishment and also the god of tracking. All was well with Umbrio for centuries.

Not all can be well forever, though. Along came the Age of Darkness, and Zon-Kuthon was released as per the agreement Abadar had made. With this event came a great uprising in evil throughout the planes. More specifically, there was a wizard working his way towards becoming a lich. This did not sit well with Iomedae, but she knew if she tried to stop the wizard, Zon-Kuthon would take it as a declaration of war between good and evil. So Iomedae came to Umbrio and asked him to take care of the problem for her. Umbrio believed that this was the only way balance could be kept between good and evil, so he accepted the job.

Umbrio set out to the Material Plane to find this evil wizard, but Zon-Kuthon stopped him. He knew what Umbrio was planning to do and that Iomedae was behind it, but instead of starting a war, he cursed Umbrio. Before he knew it, Umbrio was unconscious.
Umbrio woke up, only to find himself on the Material Plane. He remembered Zon-Kuthon, but not quite what he did. As he got up, he noticed that he was much weaker and much of his magic was gone. He tried calling to his father, but there was no answer. Now he is stuck in the Material Plane, reduced to nearly mortal, and no way to return to his home.

Me:
I've been trying to get into a pbp game for several months, but have just recently gotten into a Masks of the Living God game. I've played Pathfinder for 4 years now and have been in more games than I can remember irl. If I am picked, you don't have to worry about me dropping the game because I have more free time than I know what to do with. I go to school 2 days a week and work Friday and Saturday nights.

Thank you for the consideration, and please let me know if I've forgotten anything.

Updated Backstory - Draft:

Theme: God of Combat Prowess and Dark Tempests
Alignment: Neutral but accepts all worshipers who ask for help in combat prowess, or if they are Dark Tempest.

Synergy with Hadran Hadran gives worshipers the courage and the knowledge of how to fight (and other things), Verthoron (Anderlorn) gives them prowess to overcome their opponents. You can be book smart, but that does not necessarily give you the ability to fight and that is what Verthoron does.

The Secret Order of Dark Tempest has been around for thousands of years. Everything about the society is shrouded in secrecy. No one knows who or if anyone or anything is in charge. Equally secret, if not more, are the trainers who train these legendary warriors of mental and physical prowess. One thing is for certain, there seems to have been a drop in the Society's numbers and no one knows why.

When Verthoron Narethil was alive, not only did The Secret Order had many legendary warriors in their ranks and other worshiper found combat of all forms easier. Any time a worshiper wanted help in any kind of combat; they would worship Verthoron The God of Combat Prowess. Such combat included training, duels, and actual combat in the fields of martial arts, arcane arts, meta arts, and covert arts. In addition, he was the secret god of the Dark Tempests. Of course, the pantheon knew of his secret worshiper status, but mortal men and women did not.

Verthoron, being neutral, took all aligned worshipers. Although not the god of Balance, he would exact his own balance between his worshipers, the Dark Tempest, against other god's worshipers. Norgorber, the God of Thieves, Assassins, Murderers, Spies, did not like his display of balanced, felt that Verthoron was stealing worshipers away from him, and too many of his worshipers were dying at the hands of Vethoron's worshipers for various reasons. Norgorber using his powers of deceit and trickery convinced the pantheon to have Vertheron casted out for wrong doing. Once casted out, being weakened, Norgorber found a way to have Vethoron imprisoned in a tomb for the rest of eternity. What Norgorber did not count on was that the dwindling dedicated Dark Tempests received word of Vethoron entombment and searched far and wide to free him; which they were successful at doing.

In order for Verthoron to reascend, he will have to convince the pantheon of his innocence and make the attempt to convince Norgorber that his Dark Tempest are really warriors and that he was not exactly doing all of the things that Norgorber accused him of.

@Dylos: No war quite yet - just Death and Rebirth. Though Hadran is Valor and Glory... that's technically not war, though. Of course, a deity of war would be expected to try and initiate conflicts, possibly even pointless ones, simply for the sake of having people fight. A good rule of thumb when thinking on ideas is asking "if this was taken to an extreme, would it be difficult to play?" Themes are important to this game, and I expect players to play them up instead of going something like "Okay, I'm the deity of forgiveness, but I'm going to play them as a kleptomaniac murderhobo..." XD

@HighonHolyWater: I believe that's technically a legal combination of classes, though I'm hesitant to approve of anything that gives you command of a small army. Part of the theme of this game is doing things yourself. Also, enemies tend to be several CR above yours, and companions/summons/etc. don't get the same HP boost you do, so you might find them less-effective than usual.

@ScubaSteve:

-Race: Any Core or Featured

Would a Oracle/Magus/Warpriest be possible, or is that too much casting?

Too much casting, since two of the classes have mid-level magical ability.

It's actually good to diversify, since at a certain point, most characters aren't spending all of their spells each day anyway, and throwing more of your limited class abilities into that would be minimally helpful compared to, say, stocking up on scrolls with your above-average wealth and taking levels in another class that could get you far frequently-used talents.

Here is my submission:
Eladar, Hero God of Elves

The Myth:
In the early days of the rise of the elven race, as they began to take the first steps toward building a great civilization, they began to reflect upon what it meant to be an elf. In time, this long reflection led to the rise of a deity that reflected what it was that they considered best about themselves. Eladar, the exemplar of the elves. Paragon of grace and culture. Of harmony with nature and magic.
As the power and culture of the elves grew, so too did that of Eladar. He roamed both the heavens and Golarion, exploring and delighting in the new experiences of each new place. Along the way, he was the shining example for elves to aspire to. Tales spread of his deeds. As the elves contested with barbaric humans and other dangers of the world, so too did Eladar.
In one on one combat, his graceful blade and clever magics defeated the brute strength of the great giant Forbolg. A well placed arrow from his bow brought low the mighty red dragon Carestrimir when it attempted to burn the forest home of the elves. His supple armor was never even scratched when he battled a horde of human barbarians. His joyful dance won him a night of passion with the goddess Calistira. He is said to have finally sought his brightness after helping to protect those elves who did not depart to Sovyrian during the Age of Darkness.

The History:
Eladar was a minor hero deity, most commonly known to those elves of northern Avistan. He was mostly worshipped as part of a hero cult of the early elves. He started as something of a trickster god, usually overcoming challenges by a combination of his wits, magic, and his graceful skill. As elven culture and power grew into a great empire he came to be seen more and more as a paragon of elven virtues, showing the greatness of the elven people compared to the brutish ways of the barbaric humans the elves regularly were in conflict with. He came to be portrayed as something of a supremacist extolling elven virtues over the lesser races. With the departure of most elves to Sovyrian and the trials of the elves who remained behind his worship died out as those left behind were too concerned with survival in the Age of Darkness to strive for the perfection he represented. He is now mostly forgotten, mentioned in a few ancient epic tales of elven history.

The Truth:
Eladar was a minor hero deity of the elven pantheon. Until the last, he attempted to convince as many elves as possible to flee the coming destruction of the Earthfall. When the time came that no more could be done, he activated a gate to travel to Sovyrian. When he entered the gate, he realized something was wrong, the gate instead was tearing away his divine essence. Fearing that he would be left to drift and die in the void between the gate, he accelerated the spread of his essence and sent it flying back through the gate to Golarion, there to wait for his rebirth as he continued the cycle of reincarnation as he sought his brightness and the recovery of his divine essence.
He was a somewhat haughty god who looked down upon other less long lived races. He especially delights in proving his superiority over others, either through clever use of his wits or his skill, though those who prove themselves his equal often become his fast friends. Like most elves he is somewhat capricious.

The Crunch:
Looking to make a Rogue, Druid, Magus with a few elf related archetypes and definitely the arrogant drawback. The character is in the mold of Hercules or Gilgamesh, a heroic figure of legend who is a minor deity. He was a god of the elves focused on pride, adventure, skilled combat, and harmony with nature. He should fine the world he wakes up in an interesting place with its many varied races, cultured humans, and his elves a people in decline.

Me:
I have played a number of online games, but haven't been able to get into one on here recently. I'll have no issue with being a regular poster.

Looking forward to any comments or questions...

...and, therefore, are unlikely to be picked again. Most of these are active, so pick something else. ^^

-Valor and Knowledge
-Metamorphosis and Bestial Power
-Law and Redemption
-Morning and Renewal
-Death, Rebirth, and Fate
-Dreams and Nightmares
-Dualism and Transformation

I'll probably leave this recruitment open for a week or so, though it could be ended early for a particularly excellent submission.

Are racial themes acceptable?

Themes such as Moradin, the Soul Forger of dwarves?
Note: Moradin is not an idea I am considering.

Just try to avoid any major theme that's already been done. A lot of races have a fairly good representative already, so you'll need to be very careful while approaching from that direction. It's certainly possible, though, depending on how you go about it.

Liberty's Edge

You looking to decide by next Friday?

Another question, about this: "-I'll want the selected character to build at Level 3, since you'll be entering once the current player wraps up this scenario. You will not have your first Divine Ability, but getting that will probably be your first mission."

Is that referring to the first mythic rank that characters were created with in the first recruitment thread or something else?

-Race: Any Core or Featured

Sorry, guess I overlooked that. That can easily be changed to Fetchling without changing the backstory too much.

GM Rednal - Are Soulknife, Aegis, Psychic Mage (Wizard) ok?

The Above Offers the Following:

Exchanging Human for Elan

1. Warrior Prowess
2. Rogue Prowess
3. Wizard Casting (although (2) opposition schools)
4. Psionic Power Manifestation
5. Wear Armor that will not affect spell casting or rogue skills.
6. Adaptability
7. Survivability
8. Healing (mostly Self) but can have powers that can help others.

Or are Soulknife, Magus, Psion more acceptable?

@Feral: I would like to decide in a reasonably timely manner, yes, and a week should be plenty of time for people to write up their best background submission.

@The Thing: Divine Abilities are Divine Abilities - which, in this particular case, are carefully chosen by your GM. Regaining abilities that are literally godly is part of the main quest (though there are, of course, usage limitations to stop them from being TOO powerful). All characters begin with 1 Mythic Tier, as per the original creation guidelines.

@Anderlorn: Ultimate Psionics is an accepted sourcebook for this campaign, so long as the content is on d20pfsrd or otherwise available to me.

Wow.

Took me a while to get my head around this concept, but now I have a number of ideas floating around in my head;

Let's start with the probably impossible:

God of reincarnation- Warpriest/druid/monk gestalt, but would have to be Samsaran, which are forbidden :(

God of childhood and Imagination In the original thread, someone asked if they could combine the advanced and young templates, this inspired this idea: a perpetually young god of childhood and imagination. probably go with Paladin/Sorceror/not sure, but ought to be a word of power sorcerer/not sure to represent the imagination. I don't know if this is allowed.

Next, some favorites:

God of Archery Warpriest/Zen archer/Sorceror (Empyreal). Been wanting to do a Warpriest/Zen Archer Gestalt for a while, this seems a good enough way to do it. "Archery" seems a bit narrow a choice of portfolio as it pretty much locks him in to 1 or 2 weapons.

God of History, Keeper of the scrolls based on an idea for an NPC I once had, this one would have to be a Bard I think; beyond that I a not sure; probably wizard/swashbuckler (inspired blade).

God of Luck Swashbuckler/Bard (archaeologist)/Sorceror. Not sure how this one interacts with Desna; did Desna steal his portfolio at the beginning of time, or more likely was given it; is he setting out to reclaim it, thus weakening Desna at a possibly crucial time.

Finally, an interesting historical option:

Curchanus, God of Beasts, Endurance and travel Once Mentor of Desna, his death after being trapped by Lamashtu meant that she was able to strip beasts from him, driving a wedge between humans and animals. Before dying, he passed his portfolio of travel to Desna (this is a precis of what is written elsewhere).
But what became of the portfolio of endurance? What if it lived up to its name, and endured, being reborn as a new God? said God would want to recapture the Beast portfolio from Lamashtu, and Desna may return the portfolio of travel (though he would not seek it as she has been an admirable custodian of it)

Which one I finally go with I haven't decided yet.

Sounds good. Thanks.

Thinking of a war god, but closer to Athena than Ares, thus, not one to seek to incite battles just for fun. Strategy and tactics are more important than just straight mindless slaughter.

Classes, thinking Warmaster(from SGG)/Bard/Battle Oracle.

Since Ultimate Psionics is not available, I am converting to Aegis, Magus, Psion Kineticist (Psychokinesis).

Is there room still for a (good) tiefling necromancer?

We haven't hit the (intended) recruitment deadline. This isn't first-come, first-serve - only the quality of the final submissions will be considered, so yes, there's plenty of room. ^^

Made some edits and expanded a couple things. Also I'm posting from the proper (recycled) alias.

Background:
Skaar, the Unfailing Pillar, is an ancient god of strength, independence, and later hope. Though he has roots in the orc pantheon, like the elven goddess Calistra, he had worshipers among many peoples and went by different names to each of them. It's important to note that he's a god of strength but not a god of war. His servants were dreamers, loners, visionaries, and heroes.

The Unfailing Pillar was born out of the primordial chaos of creation alongside the rest of the orcish pantheon such as Dretha, Nulgreth, and Zagresh but from the very beginning he stood apart. He began much like them, raping, pillaging, and making war through the darkest parts of the worlds he held power on but quickly he discovered a shallowness that made such a way of life unbearable. Where was the strength in walking a path that generations had tread before you? And what glory was there in destruction compared to the infinite possibility of creation? Skaar shook the growing malaise by staying true to the logos that defined his divine essence and forging a new path and inspired others to do the same. Where his brothers and sister-gods goaded their bestial progeny on to violence and savagery, Skaar taught that there was no glory in meaningless bloodshed and that conquest without true adversity was no accomplishment. It's a little known fact that it was Skaar that nurtured ambitious young orcish minds during the Age of Darkness, encouraging them to seek the surface alongside their longtime rivals during their Quest for the Sky. It's unfortunate that his brothers and sisters turned those dreams toward war and mutual destruction.

Skaar's defiance in the face of what his brothers and sisters demanded from their kind made him few friends among the orc pantheon and, as a result, he often walked the planes alone visiting and mingling with other cultures. His was a perilous path but he found worshipers among every people he touched from young dwarves in their halls of stone that sought support in breaking free from a culture mired in inflexible tradition to the fey-touched gnomes that came to know him as a god of innovation and discovery. Through the ages anyplace living creatures sought confirmation in beliefs that left them isolated their prayers eventually reached him and Skaar often reached back providing strength and will when mortals needed it the most.

But no man or god is an island and Skaar's teachings did not forbid the building of friendships. The origin of many of these godly partnerships was his legendary appetite. He was known to drink with Torag and his sons in their ancestral keeps (even building a friendly rivalry with his mightiest son Trudd), wrestle with the giant-gods among the mountain peaks, and even spend time in the Savored Sting's bedchamber making passionate love on more than one occasion as his boundless appetites were not limited to simple food and drink

Despite his varied (if sometimes awkward) associations, at some point the Unfailing Pillar offended the wrong tradition or tread the too far alone. He found himself under attack, his power and divinity at risk. It's unknown who or what was behind the attack but Skaar fought back with all of his might. The heavens shook and even the heart of Golarion herself quaked in fear before the intensity of his rage. It’s unknown if he was ultimately overcome with superior force or crippled by treachery but Skaar was finally defeated, his divine power stripped away, and the husk that remained tossed aside. Without his guidance the world endured but not without suffering. The dwarves largely kept to their halls - dreams of the sun and sky abandoned, the gnomes began succumbing to the Bleaching in greater numbers, and for his own people, the orcs, a life beyond endless war became a distant memory. His worshipers began to lose hope or die off and as the ages passed he was quickly forgotten. But a dream never truly dies and neither does a god of dreamers and one day, eons later, he awoke. He had been forgotten by the world and was nearly powerless but never without hope.

Skaar will be a brawler/skald/oracle. He'll be a bruiser but also have plenty of mechanics to represent empowering and inspiring others. He'll grab the giant template but he'll need a way to become medium sooner rather than later because being large all the time is awkward. I'll figure out more of the details if he's chosen.
