Fighter weapon training

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Just double checking, this ability doesn't actually grant proficiency, right?

I'm just getting the listed bonus on attack and damage, but I'd have to take exotic feats if I want training in one of the exotic weapons listed in one of the fighter weapon groups.

In example, the firearms group doesn't actually confer any proficiency in those firearms, right?

Correct.

I suppose not... though it's a bit silly.

Thank you.

Well, that same fighter could take metamagic feats as well.

Many options lack basic sense prerequisites since it is assumed you have the needed things, since it would be silly to take it other wise- why waste paper and ink?

At least firearms are pretty much the most forgiving weapons when it comes to nonproficiency. Touch AC can take that -4 (heck, it is the entire reason why there are TWF builds for gunslinger- those things are not light, so they take -4/-4)

Seem to recall something about an increased misfire chance if untrained. Might be wrong.

Anyway, firearms are very uncommon in the setting I've been doing. Occasionally, we encounter a NPC with a pistol or other gun. DM has no objections to characters trained in firearms (and gunsmithing), but the odds of getting one that we could test untrained are pretty low.

I just used them for the example, given that all the weapons in that group are exotic, as opposed to some of the other groups which are a mix of simple, martial and exotic. Given that the fighter is stock with martial and exotic, it made the most sense to ask it this way.
