Hi i got my Rise of the runelords book and i am trying to draw the
glasworks map to my map... and i have failed about 6 times allready.
Can some one give me advice how to draw the map ?
http://puu.sh/cDZM7.jpg here is my one test draw
i used that measure for the diagonal lines.
I was planing to draw the glassworks outlines only and when the PC go forward i just draw the rooms when they c them. but i whanted to draw the hole thing first.
the map is Crystal Caste Combat Mat - Medium
Medium Size - 25"x36"
Left to Right Grid Squares: 34
Top to Bottom Grid Squares: 23

Maps are complex things. One square off somewhere, and something else becomes impossible to get right. This map is one of the worst I ever dealt with, because of its insistence on diagonal lines. However, I think you have the right approach. Start with the outer walls, making absolutely certain you get the lengths and breadths right. When making diagonal lines, you must count the number of squares in both directions before drawing the line. If left-right and up-down squares are the same, your line will pass through the intersections along the diagonal line. Once you have this down correctly, filling in the rest is usually not such a big deal. On this particular map, you should also get the ovens in properly before doing the rest. Oh, right, with round pieces of the map, do them last, making sure to connect them to the square grid at the right places.
I hope that helps.

To me your attempt looks great!
But why the pain? This is how I do it:
My maps actually never look exactly the same as in the books. Nobody is going to find out if one of the rooms is missing a row of squares or the corners are 90° instead of 120° or if rooms' sizes are slightly smaller or larger (if 10x10 ft2 works, why shouldn't 10x15 ft2 work, too?). If you end up with an extra wall? So be it. Extra thick walls--no problem: let the PCs grow all excited because they expect a secret door/compartment (same goes for "dead space").

Here's a tip that really needs to be a standard for all maps, especially those that might involve combat: don't draw diagonal walls from corner to corner (referring to map squares).
Instead, they should be drawn from the midpoint of a square. This way, if you have a diagonal wall it only cuts off a quarter of the square instead of half. This makes it very easy to tell whether or not a square can be occupied by a critter.
