Haunts can be pretty nasty. Lets hope Omo makes the roll, I think only he has Kn: Religion and he has to roll a 15 or higher.

"Aiii!" Jarreck backpedals long enough to draw a dagger and trying to put it into the thing attacking him. Retrieving a silver dagger from his belt this time, in addition to the frosty one before.
siver dagger: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Nothing like forgetting you have a silver dagger while fighting ghost earlier -.-

GM Niles Iron Gods |

Silver doesn't matter...that's for werewolves.
Surprise Round
Jarreck lashes out at the ghostly forms around him.
Haunt begins choking the life out of Jarreck Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 However, Jarreck manages to gasp out some breaths... Jarreck is staggered as he gasps for breath.

"It's a haunt, A spectral impression left behind by some great trauma! I think this one is connected to the vacuum pump in the other room. Please, Mr. Hellion, go break it."
I'm not sure where the pump is on the map, but Mr. Hellion will try to go break it.

Seven.teen |

Noting Omo's warning and seeing the equipment Hellion was moving towards, seventeen decides to help out. She extends one hand towards the vacuum pump and whispers a spidery word. Minature explosions detonate around it!

As Jarreck fight for his breath his only thoughts are to get away and to breath. If he can move and do either of those things he will.
however I think I just bombed my fort check and I'm currently loosing air quickly, to be unconcious next round.

GM Niles Iron Gods |

Round 1
Seven sends forth a wave of force missiles against the vacuum pump, the locus of the negative energy,
Jarreck [staggered] staggers out of the range of the haunt, which now latches on to Seven.
Omo directs Hellion to smash the pump!

Good guys are up. The Vac Pump is hardness 10 and has 35 more HP. I'll put a token on the map to represent it, but its where Hellion is

Guaire |

Pardon me then, as you used that word on the previous page.
If possible, Guaire heads over to join Hellion.
Drawing his flail, he aims to join in on the smashing.
Dmg, 2 handed: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Oh come on XD

Mortimer 'Mort' Burrwaddle |

Mort sees first Jarreck and then Seven gasping for air and then Seven collapses to the floor.
Oh my... Strong... Need to act quickly, no time to waste.
Mort in his earth elemental form takes a deep breath and moves to
Seven to attempt to pull her out of the area of effect.
Fort Save if needed: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
He drags Seven's body as far away from the haunt as he can.

Omo Nijj |

Omo wrings his paws in dismay. He want to drag Jarreck away as well, but is much too weak.
Mr. Hellion does his best to sunder the vacuum pump.

![]() |

Niles is Jarreck free to act this round or is he still affected by the haunt suffocation?
Trying hard to regain his breath Jarreck wheezes, "What is that thing"

Seven.teen |

Not sure if it makes any difference but Seventeen hasn't used her +11 on a d20 1/day nanite surge.

GM Niles Iron Gods |

@Guaire You're right I did describe it as a cloud, but it doesn't get AoO's or have reach. It's a haunt, which is kinda like a mix between a trap and a creature. It targets one creature and then continues until that creature is dead/out of reach and then it moves on. It had targeted Jarreck and then he moved out of range so it targeted Seven. @Seven Yeah that +11 would have made a big difference...you'd be staggered only and not unconscious at 0HP. I'll assume you wanted to do that.
Mort grabs ahold of Seven and assists her in moving.
Guaire moves to the pump (no bashing yet, its AC10 but you had to double move)
Round 2
Seven staggers away from the Haunt.
Jarreck waits...
Omo/Hellion hacks into the Pump.
Haunt targets Guaire Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 but the ranger is tough and is merely gasping for air, not choking to death.

I'll take the non answer as a yes, he can act in that round
Round 2
Jarreck moves back into the room drawing the adamantine dagger when he see Hellion and Guaire attacking the device in the corner

Seven.teen |

Seventeen staggers away and in a syllabant whisper, she rasps "Brother, that thing near killed me. What did Xaud do to leave such a strong imprint? He must have been truly depraved."
Seventeen defers till after Hellion's attack. She doesn't have line of sight and it may be pointless to summon something, lets see.

Omo Nijj |

Buzz-Buzz: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17

Buzz-Buzz (Confirm): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 3d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3, 1) + 7 = 12
Mr. Hellion continues to demolish the pump.

Seven.teen |

If Adamantine bypasses harness then I think Hellion and Jarreck did enough damage to destroy it, well lets see what Niles says.

GM Niles Iron Gods |

Indeed, the pump is destroyed.
Jarreck bravely reenters the fray, and combines with Guaire and the unsuffocatable Hellion to smash the haunted vacuum pump to bits. With a gasping wail, the spirits depart, hopefully for a better plane of existence.
The party spots The interior of the long vacuum chamber is visible from the window in its door, save for a few feet right at the door's base. In that space slumps the desiccated corpse of a human man, his fingernails shattered. Blood stains the seam in the door.

Omo Nijj |

Kn: Engineering: 1d20 + 18 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 18 + 2 + 2 = 37
Omo examines the interior of the vacuum chamber. "This man had some useful tech integrated into his body. I hope he won't mind us taking it."
He then sets to the grisly task of harvesting the wirejacks.

Seven.teen |

Seventeen arches one eyebrow at Guaire, like the books said people did when they thought a suggestion outlandish. In a monotone she interjected, "Done properly not at all Guaire, a med bot would be able to apply the implants under something called general anesthesia. The procedure would be extremely dangerous with the patient thrashing around."

Omo Nijj |

"These increased his speed and his reflexes. Which is very useful for someone like Jarreck, though I guess being better is just better for everyone. I certainly practice better living through alchemy . . . it is more accurate to say they would be of particular use to Jarreck. We just would need a cybernetics lab and his, you know consent . . ."
Omo rambles on as he works.

![]() |

"Here Omo this should cut any anchors you might have trouble with." Jarreck says as he hands off his adamantine knife. Turning to Mort.
"affecting his arms, probably a strength mod or something to make him more surehanded. Back in the guild, once knew a man who could bend steel bars, no trouble at all, another could twirl blades through his fingers so fast it appeared he was holding a star blade."
Once Omo finishes his task and Jarreck has retrieved his dagger, "Omo were you able to investigate the panel next to the door at the bed? If we can't open it we can move up the stairs once again."

Seven.teen |

@Jarreck do you mean this panel?: 'A small desk against the southwest wall is bare, while doors provide several exits-although no handle adorns the door to the northwest. Instead of a handle or knob, it bears a small plate of coppery metal.'

![]() |

yep, turned it over to Omo before Furkas showed up, not sure Omo ever was able to investigate it. Wondered if perhaps the nanite orb might activate it.

GM Niles Iron Gods |

I don't know how, or why, but I'm consistently thinking I've posted in this thread for the day when I haven't. Apologies.
@Omo Yeah sorry, the Furkas encounter interrupted your investigation.
Omo knows that the plate is a type of key that will unlock the door if touched with the right material. A quick search of the room finds the key in a desk drawer. The door opens without a problem revealing a dark stairwell leading downward. The stairwell has no light source and is completely dark. Your visits in the lower floors found no place these stairs would have gone, perhaps this is some secret staircase leading to a basement?

Seven.teen |

Seventeen examines the stairwell and remarks, "The geometry of this appears to be all wrong, it can't fit within the tower. If it's not an illusion, powerful magic must be involved. We know Furkas is capable of short range instantaneous dimensional travel, was he capable of something more permanent?"
Seventeen mutters an arcane phrase and attunes herself to the ethereal currents that may be powering any enchantments...
Kn:Arcarna: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29
If there is nothing untoward about the magics, Seventeen summons an arcane light with which to guide Jarreck. She suggests they decend and explore.

![]() |

Kn:Local: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Jarreck thinks about the layout of the building from the outside, "This is one of the towers that hug the outside but I do not believe we have seen any entrances on this side of the tower on the inside coming up." those watching him see him begin to slowly retrace his steps downward through the tower in his mind. His hands indicating the downward motions and side to side as they came up. turning his body around left and right to point at the tower opening he could remember. "Mage's study, trapped doorway, robot's closet, and the tower steps...No don't believe we've seen anything open to this side. Something special to Furkas lays at the end of this."
perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23

GM Niles Iron Gods |

There wasn't anything magical about the staircase, it was just inaccessible from any other floor except this one. It's the staircase in the top left of every floor that has a solid wall around it.
The heroes climb down and down, and down. Until they seem to be deep in the earth. They are now in the Dungeon of Furkas Xoud, who knows what technological horrors wait within...
Map is updated (Entirely new map, keep in mind the squares are 10')
You find yourselves in a corridor carved from natural stone and polished smooth. Continual Flame spells attached to sconces on the walls illuminate the entire structure.

Guaire |

Niles, Spike's HP would be on 28, i healed him for 15 before our fight with the choking cloud. Since the latter didn't target Spike, he'd probably have it still.
With Spike being held over his shoulder, Guaire climbs down.
"Just hold, and watch out with your quills."
When down, Guaire whispers for the others to climb down.
Quick inspection, hearing anything?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

Seven.teen |

Ah I see. Well never mind, I guess we'll encounter portals later.
As if discussing a school homework assignment, Seventeen tells you, "For an ex-member of the Technic league, Xaud's tower has contained little technology. Perhaps the upper levels were looted by the apprentices before they fled. This area was likely off limits. Until we know what we're dealing with, I advise caution."
To underscore this, Seventeen stops and studies her book before whispering words of power that wrap Jarreck in a protective shield. She uses 1 arcane reservoir point to swap web out for protection from technology, which she casts on Jarreck.

"Thank you " Jarreck says before moving out, checking the first turn and the moving across to check the door on the left.

"Clever," Omo murmers as they move forward.
He keeps a keen eye for traps and threats, the stimulants in his system keeping him hyper focused.

GM Niles Iron Gods |

@Guaire I fixed it. However, the map is editable and after all these years I trust you guys to keep track of HP =) (I'm saying you can edit HP if you'd like to.) @Everyone If you do edit HP just let me know to cut down on any confusion.
Jarreck checks the door and finds it closed, but unlocked and not trapped. He opens it to reveal
This sparsely decorated room contains a single wooden desk
and chair in the northeast corner. Two doors provide exits from
the room.

Entering the room, Jarreck inspects the table before processing the next doorway.

GM Niles Iron Gods |

Jarreck checks the desk and finds a wand
and a set of notes
The journal is filled with detailed notes about the various creatures Furkas often conjured, including Belkers, Azers, Achaierais and Mihstus The final pages contain anatomical drawings of a peculiar bloated black
fly, along with the devastating effect of the swarms of these flies on living flesh. A successful DC 24 Knowledge (planes) check identifies the fly as the type exhaled by leukodaemons, servants of the Horseman of Pestilence.
The next door is unlocked and untrapped.

Seven.teen |

Seventeen examines the wand, "It's related to gaseous control somehow, Omo what do you think?"
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19
She flips through the journal and notes in a monotone, "Xoud had some unhealthy interests. I don't recognize many of these deceptions, presumably some are from other planes of existence."
Once Jarreck gives the all clear, Seventeen opens the door but doesn't step through.

GM Niles Iron Gods |

Seven opens the door and sees
The western half of this vast chamber contains an immense magical circle etched into the stone floor, its curves and runes glowing softly with magical radiance.
A hideous creature lies within the circle
Seven hears in her thoughts Mortal. Free me. Free me and I will reward you.

GM Niles Iron Gods |

Seven.teen |

Kn:Arcarna: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20 Oh come one lol.
Seventeen takes one look at the awful thing, and closes the door. She tells the others mildly, "I don't think its wise to talk to something trapped in a magic circle when it looks like that. Shall we try another door?"

GM Niles Iron Gods |

As Seven finishes speaking she "hears" the creature in her head Mortal. Free me and I will share the secrets of this place, my prison, with you. Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. Free me.Free me. "Looks like those bird things we fought above, I vote different room as well." Jarreck says catching sight of the creature and backing away from the doorway.

Seven.teen |

As the door closes Seventeen tells the others, "It's talking directly to my mind. It really wants to escape, promising all sorts of things. Anyways lets try the next door on the left."
Seventeen whispers several arcane phrases and attunes herself to the ethereal and seeks out any enchantment that might be warding the door. She also motions for silence and listens for any noises that might be coming from the other side.
