Phantom touch in Occult Mysteries

Rules Questions

2 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

Phantom Touch (Su): As a standard action, you can perform a melee touch attack that causes a living creature to become shaken. This ability lasts for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 your oracle level (minimum 1 round). You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier. At 5th level, the target instead becomes frightened, and at 7th level the target becomes panicked.

Where is the save bro?

Saves are for martials.

Lantern Lodge

I have no idea if it's deliberate or if the save was left off accidentally.

On the one hand, a melee touch attack to confer the shaken condition isn't the most awesome ability, so maybe they decided to let it work without a save?

On the other hand, I would expect a save for something like this.

Option 1: Asks James Jacobs, he's usually good for some sort of answer.

Option 2: Hit the FAQ and cross your fingers that you'll get an answer.

Option 3: Ask your GM. If he wants to implement a save, then the very common 10 + CHA modifier + 1/2 Oracle Level = DC would seem appropriate.

Option 4: If you can find out who designed the ability/mystery, maybe you can ask them and they'll give you their insight.

Good luck!

A melee touch attack to confer the shaken condition is a non-issue.
A melee touch attack to confer the panicked condition, ignoring spell resistance, usable around 8 times per day and all of that at level 7 is sth else entirely.
The only balancing fact is the duration, but even 3 rounds is a lot of time in pathfinder combat.

In any case thanks for your feedback Captain Zoom. I'll hit the faq button, mainly for the reason that I have a feeling they might actually have forgotten to put the will save in there. I have to say I don't really mind if the power actually has no save, or if it does, its not the only such power to exist (euphoric tranquility to name one).

I do believe the general rule is attack roll OR save... When combined it's often attack roll to deal damage, save to avoid (or reduce) nasty bi-effect...
