Plume of Penache

Once per day, the wearer can
activate it; when she does, the
plume provides her with 1 panache
point that can be used for that deed. Once used, the plume
appears wilted and bedraggled until its magic is replenished.

... except that this item never references a deed to be "that deed"

Is it basically an extra penache per day?

Does it need to be attuned to a specific deed ?

They probably mean that you activate it as a free action as part of doing a deed. It wouldn't work well with most of the deeds if you had to spend a standard action to activate it. Alas, the default is a standard action to activate an item unless otherwise specified, so this item needs some errata.

Whoever wrote the description for this item needs to be firmly smacked in the back of the head:

Activate as a swift,free,standard,move?
If it is indeed activate as standard (Raw would be a strand action - then there is no description of how that point is then used to perform a deed)

How/When is the feather recharged?
Can I recharge it with panache I have available? Do I need to regain this point by getting a critical or killing something? Does it refresh every night?

"plume provides her with 1 panache point that can be used for that deed"
This is horribly written and needs to be reworded. We all assume this means it can be used for any panache deed but does not actually say this.

A lot of these question can be answered very easily with RAI it works this way but RAW this items does nothing

Just had an idea... can you stock up on these, and replace as needed? Basically buy more panache per day for 1,000 gp a pop.

Its magic is replenished the next day. The "once used" sentence is flavor text for RP'ers that like extra stuff like that. The next day when it's available for use again the plume regains it vibrant appearance until it's used again.

"That deed" is vague, but it can be assumed that it means any deed as nothing in the item mentions that a deed must be chosen when the item is created. And it is misleading because without errata it must be activated as a standard action but it implies that it used in conjunction with using a deed.

It's definitely too strict to say that "RAW this does nothing at all".

I don't see why not, it's not much different than a Pearl of Power. The biggest difference being that as a swashbuckler levels up, they get more options about what to do with their penache on while you have to buy bigger Pearls of Power to use on your higher level spells.

I assume (as if anyone could assume anything from that gobblygook)that it gives you an extra panache point to use with the deed you are using in that round... I know i'm basing this on basically nothing but there's not much to work with in the first place.

RAI-

There is no reason to think this feather should be any different then a Pearl of power in terms of its mechanics.

I will be treating it exactly like how a pearl of power is used (until they errata the wording) aka activating it is a free action and there is no limit on how many you can have and they refresh automatically once every day. Although I would also rule the required hat value stacks just because it's funny. If you have 10 feather's you better have one damn fancy hat to put them in.

Wow. My gunslinger is about to pick up a new hat.

Plumes are a head slot item, so you can only have one in your hat at any one time.

Nothing to stop you swapping them outside of combat I suppose...

Does it work for swashbucklers/gunslingers only, or also for classes normally without panache?
Is it attuned to a specific deed?
