Wasn't someone talking about running an all psionic game a while back? Whatever happened to that?

dunno but i like the sound of it!

Shadow Lodge

Same here. Some one should run one *wink wink*

agreed Tenro, Catman...

i wouldnt mind running it myself, but i already run 2 pbp games and 2 home games. i prolly wont be able to add another game for like a year

GM perhaps you should consider not running a campaign but a module, modules are easy and with a steady post rate can be completed in a few months. This could also be a chance to test out the http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2r26e?Dreamscarred-Press-Introduces-Akashic-Mys teries. It's Dreamscarred's take on Incarnum.

I'm dotting this thread to keep an eye on it and also to express interest. I have a 1st Level Vitalist (serves as something of a healer) whose game died before the first game day was finished (it was a homebrew and the GM had to bail). He's been looking for a home ever since. As a clone-brother of a local version who's been run up to 7th, I know his build plays well for a good long while, and I'd like to give him a go in PbP.

Anyway, good luck to all!

Yeah vitalists are pretty cool. We've got one in my RotR home game. He's level 15 and healing has never been a problem.

I'm still learning my way around them but I like how (the elder version of) this guy has played so far. Seems Vitalists lag behind Clerics in the earlier levels, but I built this guy as a Sadist Mender so he can deal some damage in the process of healing. Climb a few levels though, and they start getting really interesting and useful.

the one we have is a sould thief so he also does damage while healing. its pretty cool

Hmmm... definite possibilities here. Homebrewed world or pre-existing one? I've been thinking about something like this for a while as a homebrewed world. For flavor, the world would be like a psionic Numenera. I have all the DSP psionics books and most of the 3PP 3.X books.

Someone convince me to take this campaign on! Give your best sales pitch! Given that I am opening a Zeitgeist campaign, I will be at 7 campaigns. If I take on 1 more, that will be 8 whole campaigns lol. I generally have the free time to post at least once a day unless I am busy with doctors or something like that.

What would the people who have posted interest be interested in playing?

Here is my sales pitch...

A Psionic Kingmaker:

The war in Sarlona has been lost, the Inspired of Riedra have won... Yet not all hope is lost, thousands upon thousands of people have fled Sarlona and arrived in that city of scoundrels and thieves, Stormreach! Now the Stormlords plan to expand into the Xen'drik interior and coasts, will you, the refugees of Sarlona accept the challenge?

GM I reccomend that this should be a "normal" campaign (no gesalt) for a simple reason, overpowered doesn't suit eberron's pulp noir, low powered feel. PC classes are rare and even then they aren't the most powerful beings in the setting. If Faerun was meant for epic archmages, clerics acending into gods then Eberron was meant for the Magus, the Investigator, the Gunslinger etc...

Note that you can also easily "implant" the Kingmaker AP into Eberron with some effort...

Well I was thinking on having it set in a completely homebrewed world where the planet itself is psionic. It would be a world where magic is the tool of the mad or the cursed, where technology is at a sci-fi level (Psionic Androids, anyone?), and where the entire world is filled with strange, unfamiliar creatures. The planet would be studded with psionic crystals and there would even be an entire desert made from a crystalline forest that was destroyed in an ancient catastrophe (The desert would be so Psionically charged, any powers used would be almost like Wild Magic in psionics form!).

What does everyone think of the above?

O.o

I would love it. Immediately I think of a character that is, secretly, a Cerebremancer. There could even be Oread Druids in the crystal forest!

@The Silver Prince wow man, its amazing how much we think alike on this particular subject. Im also toying with the idea of a tech/psionic homebrew world. I was ecstatic at the announcement of iron gods, numaria, and the tech guide since it will give me so much to go off of.

Im shooting for a sort of feudal japan styled world that went all cyberpunk after the introduction of alien tech, so it'll be a mix up of the 2 with a scattered, apocalyptic feel to keep things from being over abundant. Most things built after the alien tech will be cyberpunk, but the ruins, temples, relics, etc will all be asian themed.

I'd be super excited if you ran an all psionic game. By far, my all time favorite class is the psion (telepath) and thats what I'd be wanting to play for sure. It would also be pretty cool if we could play some cool races too. I have a build out of the advanced race guide for a half doppelganger that is balanced with the other common races. it was basically my remake of the 3.5 changeling that was half doppelganger. If not though I'd be fine with human. So long as i can play a psion I'm happy:)

Edit* Starting at higher level would be sweet as well, like 5th or 6th at least. All I ever get a chance to play is low level, which is a real smack in the face after a while of rarely getting to play anyway.

Shadow Lodge

Sound pulpy I like it

Well, my other local-game Psion (Gadgeteer Generalist) is in a just-barely-steam-age world which started out all psionics (no traditional magic at all), and that PC was what caused me to try another Psion. So you can probably guess how I feel about any sort of post-medieval scenario. :o)

I'd take a pass on Gestalt/Mythic/etc. though, and probably at starting up a few levels as well. I really want to bring this guy up from first level to see how things develop. (But don't let that stop the rest of you!)

It's also sounding like we're talking 3.x versus Pathfinder? In which case my guy wouldn't really work anyway.

But if you folks do this I'll definitely be lurking; it already sounds like this is gonna rock!

hmmm...

Personally I would be more for a bigger setting then a world... Think of it like something akin to Sins of a Solar Empire at least in scope, world after world and transportation can only be managed by the arcane or the psionic.

The PCs could start off from different worlds (or even astroids)...

Which could very from high tech to stone age...

The Arcane Nexus:

To transverse the galaxy arcanist's tap into the very power of the underlying principles of the Cosmos from which all arcanists (besides Sorcerers) derive power from. The advantage of the Nexus is that it already exists, you can go anywhere in the galaxy but it's not certain you will wind up exactly where you wanted to...

Pathways:

Psionic power ultimately is generated from within, as a result to navigate the cosmos psions use or create "pathways" which are safe routes trailblazed by other psions. There is no chance of inaccuracy or randomness with a pathway, but trailblazing one is a slow process... One has to create a safe path that for instance avoids suns, supernovas etc...

Azten, indeed but remember, magic is seen as the tool of insane, evil, cursed, or power-hungry individuals. Druids are likely given some respect but are viewed as dangerously insane.

Jimibones, great minds think alike, do they not?

My basic thoughts is that humanity, elves, ect. are all extinct. In their place are those who are their inheritors (For example, all humans are Elans, changed from birth so the massive psionic emanations from the planet do not drive the children mad... the Maenads are those who do not but survive by adapting, hence their tempestuous emotions and the psionic crystals growing as a Lamarckian evolution, rather than a Mendelian one, or all the Dwarves were turned into the Deurgar, ect.).

I was definitely wanting a Jadepunk style nation where all the psicrystals are made out of some resonant jade and psychic warriors and aegii (Plural form of aegis?) are like the samurai.

Why worry about a Changeling when you can play an actual Doppelganger? It would be a toned-down version, de-DH'd, obviously.

I was thinking of the societies each being themed after certain real-world cultures with a twist (The Clockwork Caliphate, for instance, being humans that live in the crystal desert and, deciding to take the safe route in such a psionically volatile region, have set about mastering technology to tame the world around them, with their city's laws being enforced by Inevitable 'Jannisaries'!).

All of the cultures would be like ancient societies, despite their use of high technology. There would be kings and queens, daimyos, emperors and empresses, sultans and sheiks, ect. Only in a few places would society even resemble what a modern or post-modern world would, at least as far as society goes. Technology is not, however easy to make. Adventuring technology, as I'm calling it for ease of reference, will cost much more than basic household technology.

Starting at 5th or 6th level sounds good, assuming most everyone else likes the idea. Are you flexible on this if they are not?

Catman123456, thanks!

Don Jon Dux, I was thinking about gestalt, but that would really depend on the others and what they are interested in.

As far as mythic, I'm still waiting on the Mythic Madness book, so I can see if psionics are covered. I would hate to homebrew something that is coming out later. Mythic would probably be post-20th level anyway!

It's Pathfinder with some 3.X material brought up to Pathfinder. I have converted a LOT of material to Pathfinder standards for my home campaign! My buddy Matt (Who shares my first name, oddly enough!) is thinking of a Monk/Warlock for our anime/Wu Xia/Dragonball Z style oriental campaign!

Viluki, I never stated that there would not be an attached solar system! Some of the planets I plan on being in the solar system are STRANGE! Imagine a silicon based world that is the homeworld of the Doppelganger race (I did a theoretical one time at college speaking of how life would be protean and malleable if it were silicon-based instead of carbon!), a world filled with genius level insect people who plot and scheme to control the multiverse, or the worst of all the *REDACTED* dreadnought, the first signs of the *REDACTED*!

Also, bear in mind that high technology is not EVERYWHERE on this world! Some places are backwards and uncivilized, while some places have a monastic-like disdain of technology.

Also, did I mention psicrystal-studded fey birthed spontaneously from the planet? :P

Sounds interesting. Need some white ape monsters, red humans and flying ships.

Consider me interested.

Ok, screw it folks, I'm taking on this LAST campaign before Zeitgeist! After that, no more! I've been too ready to start up this kind of campaign to NOT run it!

Post ideas for your characters, what you would like to see in the campaign, whether you are interested in gestalt and/or mythic, and things of that nature!

Also, if you have a question about races, given my idea in a previous post, feel free to ask!

Can you give some brief info about some of your races and the classes available?

I have no psionic experience. :)

Hmm. Kaigun Marksman might be fun. But then so might straight gunslinger, who lacks much in the way of psionic powers.

TSP, if you are referring to the Mythic KS by Legendary Games, yes, psionics will be in that, for sure.

To clarify, I am NOT pushing Zeitgeist back. I misworded that statement!

Trawets71, Google Docs will be up soon so prospective PCs can take a look.

Monkeygod, yes I was referring to that. Mythic will probably be past 20th level though.

Jimibones83, is there a way to transfer thread to my control? I ask because I may choose to turn it into the official recruitment thread. We seem to have enough people to choose from for a full party and I know a good many of you to some extent. I would rather not have 100 people flood in and have to turn down the majority of them, hence why I don't want to open a separate recruitment. Would it still counts as your campaign thread though?

lurking...and devising a character of some sort...

Also dropping back to lurk mode. Doesn't sound like a fit for me at this time, but it also sounds filled with juicy awesomeness! You lot have fun!

Dotting. This sounds amazing and I'm absolutely going to have to post a character.

HAI!

Dost thou remember me? Talori's main concept was central to RotRL, so I'll make something new for this campaign. I'll stat him out for 5th level-probably some sort of soulknife.

I think I'll drop my Cerebremancer idea and make a Maenad that has a high enough osychic resonance to created armor and weapons from the crystals growing from his skin. Aegis/Gifted Blade(Soulknife). Explorer/Mercanery type.

I don't have much interest in Mythic, but Gestalt is always fun. :)

Copy cat. ;p

I am working on detailing the campaign world for everyone! Hopefully I will have the docs up by tonight! I've been working on this setting for my upcoming 3PP, so that's why it's going to be in google docs rather than the boards, because of the 'Paizo llc owns all rights to any material posted on the messageboards, blah, blah,'.

Hey there, other people I know! :)

Also, votes on gestalt and/or mythic?

LIST OF AVAILABLE RACES, REQUESTS ALLOWED

1. Blues- Psionic goblinoids with blue skin, enough said!

2. Dromite- Small insectoid people divided from birth into castes based on their innate energy.

3. Duergars- Dwarves who delved too deep into the earth and awakened an Old God, whom they now labor to keep asleep.

4. Elans- Humans who are transformed though a psionic procedure to become psionically attuned.

5. Half-Giants- The name says it all!

6. Maenads- Sea-faring humanoids with crystal dust-studded skin and tempestuous emotions they hide under a veeneer of calm.

7. Ophiduans- Psionic serpent people with an expansionistic empire.

8. Xephs- Psionic humanoids fleet of foot and quick of wit with a huge sense of wanderlust.

9. Forgeborn- Humanoids 'repaired' from near-death by psionically fusing metal, stone, or crystal with their dying flesh.

10. Norals- Stocky humanoids with strong powers of empathy who typically undergo symbiosis with strange creature called an Erliss, which fuses with their head and augments their psionic powers.

11. Thallasic Asrais- Psionic amphibious sea elves whose skin is supernaturally cold to the touch.

12. Cavians- Psionic rat people with a racial hivemind of sorts.

13. Star Crystal Synthetics- Synthetic lifeform made of levitating psionic crystal and strange metallic circuits. WARNING: selecting this race will forfeit the first level of one half of your gestalt, because of the various powers you gain! And I will only allow ONE of these in a group because there are only a handful in the entire campaign setting.

14. Half-Phrenics- A humanoid who survived implantation by a Phrenic Scourge, but emerged... changed. WARNING: selecting this race will force you to take part of the 5 level racial class! And I will only allow ONE of these in a group because there are only a handful in the entire campaign setting.

15. Lashuntas- See the Pathfinder SRD description!

16. Androids- See the Pathfinder SRD description!

17. Fluxminxes- Humanoids genetically created to be natural shapeshifters. Their bodies are silicate-based and can assume the form of nearly any similarly sized creature.

18. Softlings- Humanoids genetically created to be empathic healers. The radiant ectoplasm that is their blood can faintly be seen beneath their blue skin, flaring as they use their healing powers.

19. Khymer- Sentient pools of blood created from the mass deaths of hundreds or thousands of people. Strangely non-evil almost as a whole, these creatures must inhabit the bodies of the dead or else they risk drying up and dying a permanent death.

20. Athenians- An all-female psionic races of warrior women who reproduce by cloning themselves within room-sized 'wombs' of psionic crystal.

21. Charioteers- The mysterious and nearly extinct race that arrived from the stars and brought technology to the world (Think the Egyptian-like people from the first Stargate movie!).

22. Crystalids- Living creatures made of psionic crystal who first taught humans how to utilize psionics and crystal technology during the Age of Awakening.

23. Futureborns- Creatures from the distant future who were propelled to the present by some unknown catastrophe which also stripped them of most of their memories. They have an uncanny sense of time and are completely ageless.

24. Mantids- Insect-like humanoids who are the more sophisticated cousins of the Dromites. They are a cultured, yet expansionist culture that is a study in contradictions.

25. Agraukiths- A slave race created and forgotten by the Mantids, they are a simple race of anthropomorphic beetles who are hunters and have colorful wings they can flap rapidly to produce colorful, hypnotic patterns.

26. Igran-Kriders- Bioluminescent humanoid keepers of hidden lore from the twisting tunnels that run beneath the earth.

27. Xiirs- Serpentine progenitors of the Ophiduans, the Xiir were once masters of psionics, but war and inbreeding almost wiped their race to extinction. They can utilize their chosen disciplines in interesting and unheard of ways. WARNING: If you choose this race, you MUST have it as one half of your gestalt for several levels and the other half as a Psion with a Discipline other than Generalist!

28. Enlighteneds- Psionic humanoids who resemble the classic 'Grey' aliens. The race is mute, but has telepathy and can temporarily turn into pure thought for a few minutes a day.

29. Coalescent Swarms- Sentient hivemind formed by a swarm of creatures that can form a roughly humanoid shape. WARNING: You must take the 10 level Coalescent racial class on one side of your gestalt!

30. Ceptus- Human-sized race of hyper-intelligent jellyfish with powerful telekinetic powers.

31. Hazes- Strange humanoids who 'see' with their specialized minds, have telepathy, and must subsist on blood. They believe servitude is a sacred duty and treat it with the utmost seriousness.

32. Silvers- Alien humanoids with metallic bodies that must subsist on metallic compounds. Their brain is hardwired towards selfish behavior and they are powerful wielders of magic.

33. Zifs- Psionic snail people with a hatred for the servants of the Old Gods.

34. Thri-Kreens- Four armed psionic mantis people from the desert lands with a culture based around skill with weapons, particularly mindblades.

35. Synads- An offshoot of the human raceborn with three minds which allow for a great deal of multitasking and information retention.

36. Githyankis- Warlike humanoids that were former slaves of a mysterious race said to be related to the Phrenic Hegemony.

37. Githzerais- Monastic cousins to the Githyanki, who share a racial grudge against each other.

38. Kalashtars- Human-like beings with ties to the Plane of Dreams, who have a dual spirit.

39. The Inspired- The dark reflections of the Kalashtar, whose unnaturally beautiful bodies are filled with dark spirits from the Plane of Dreams, who may or may not be willing to aid the mortal races depending on their individual personalities.

"23. Futureborns- Creatures from the distant future who were propelled to the present by some unknown catastrophe which also stripped them of most of their memories. They have an uncanny sense of time and are completely ageless."

Until they get back to their time and start aging again, signaling the coming of said catastrophe?[/wicked guess]

Azten, think completely severed from time but still existing within it, so they will NEVER age, even magically. As for any catastrophe, I have NO idea what you're trying to imply... >:)

Gestalt and mythic sound good to me. I know mythic will be much higher level though. Now to figure out race and class.

The Silver Prince wrote:

Just trying to figure out more flavor. ;)

I vote for gestalt, but not against mythic.

is there a list of all the class features for these races?

Shadow Lodge

gestalt and mythic go big

not a fan of gestalt, too much book keeping. Mythic for psionics is "lets try it out and see whether or not we like it".

Here is a proposal though for gestalt, if you go gestalt you get a standard 25 build points. If you choose to do this single classed you get a 25 point build where you trade points on a 1=1 basis (18 strength=8 points)... Still thinking here.

I will never do turn down gestalt, but if its a deal breaker I can be OK with a normal class character

Something that I've seen done for Gestalt that I really like is that your alternate class has to be an NPC class. That way you can get more Skills or HP or BAB or Saves or even Spells, but it's not quite so game-breakingly powerful with mixing Class Features.

That said, I'm fine with Gestalt or Mythic or both or whatever. I'm going to start dreaming up my character tonight, though I'm waiting to read more about some of those races before posting it.

Gestalt AND Mythic.

And, holy shmoly... ZOMG SO MANY RACES!!!!! Can't wait to see you stat up all of those suckers.

Alright, here goes nothing (first part, warning, probably posting multiple installments.)

Part the First: Wasted:

Two elans sat facing each other, in perfect stillness. The forest creatures around them chittered, completely peaceful, and the canopy filtered out a gentle, golden light from the noonday sun. One was in simple brown robes, and had flowing silver hair and beard. He was of medium stature, and energy was practically bursting out of his form. The other was in languid red robes, adorned with flames and sprinkled with the dust of topaz. He was clean shaven, and his red hair stood straight up.

Then, the one in brown dropped to the ground. The red one smiled.

The forest was silent for a moment.

And suddenly, vast waves of unbound psionic energy flew forth from the clearing, decimating anything and everything in its path.

All became dust.

Except for one tiny, crystalline psicrystal.

It remained.
[/spoier]

[spoiler=Part the Second: Lost]
The Psionic Wastes were an enigma. A dust desert, nothing grew there, and only the most hardy peoples survived for long. And yet it exploded with wild psionic energy.

Anything that was manifested there got lost in the massive psychic storm, and responded back with massive psionic whiplash. Strange astral predators prowled the desert, homing in on concentrations on psychic who dare make their presence be known.

In simple words, a death trap for psions.

Yet some people persist.

A tribe of (half giants or Athenians, can't decide) wanders through the desert. This was their home before the Clash. It is their home. It will always be their home. They will not abandon it.

The tribe has settled in to a large, newly discovered oasis: food is bountiful and fresh, they have more water than they know what to do with, and the children are happy for the first time in years.

Ah, yes, the children. One particular group is straying far from camp, laughing and cavorting. Their parents call them back, but they pay them no heed. The laugh and play for a long time, and then they eventually get tired. But the camp is nowhere in sight, even though they had strayed fewer than one hundred armlengths from the camp.

One of the smaller ones tugged on a tall girl's tunic. "Talori... I'm scared."

Talroi smiled kindly and the little one. "It's okay, Ikirma. We'll find our way back to camp. Think of this as a grand adventure!" The little one smiled weakly, and Talori looked worriedly back at where the camp was. She was only twenty-five years old. How could the young half-giant shepard a group of children through the Waste?

Talori begins to set up tents-it was standard procedure to always carry your personal effects with you in case you had to pack up suddenly-and get the children to bed. Tending to the fire, Talori eventually fell into an uneasy sleep as well.

She awoke to screaming. Young Ikirma was convulsing in her sleep. Her cries grew weaker and weaker, until they stopped altogether. Talori dashed to her tent in the midnight shadows. She was still breathing, thankfully. Talori tried to shake Ikrima awake. "C'mon, sweetie. Wake up. It was just a nightmare. Wake up." She wouldn't stir. Fearing the worst, Talori pried the young half-giant's eyes open. Glassy, and dead. Living death... Mind eaters.

Talori bolted out of the flap, and began yelling into the night. "Everybody pack up! We have to leave NOW!" But it was too late. The screams of the mind eater's victims echoed throughout the camp. Talori recalled Elder Nakiro's teachings: Mind eaters always go for the youngest. They have more imagination. It tastes sweet to them. Talori ran out of the camp, crying. If she got far enough, perhaps the mind eaters would ignore her... What am I kidding? They are relentless. The only escape is death.

As she ran into the darkness, the thought eaters found a veritable feast: the massive psionic power contained within a buried crystal. Talori gasped as she felt the though eaters' presence slip away...
But since when could she feel the presence of such things?

Talori fell to the ground, losing herself in a swirling maelstorm of energy. A single, shining light pierced the darkness. A crystal. Struggling through the storm, Talori found it, and grasped it... And she awoke with a gasp. Her hands and shoulders had diamonds embedded in them.

She wasted no thought on such strange things. She still had to survive. Her practical side taking over, pushing the whimsical to the side, Talori marched across the desert...

I'm giving you a lot to work with for that backstory... Hope I helped add to the setting :)

Also, looking at the massive variety of races, I would propose a mega-campaign. I'm playing in one right now, and it's pretty much a pool of players with one or two characters running around in the world, meeting each other and going on adventures. They maybe be one, two, or maybe even three overarching plots, but you touch lightly on them and give clues as to what's really going on every adventure. Much like PFS, actually. If a certain player wants to stop some BBEG, than he can go off on his/her own, and make waves, rather than ripples, in the world.

Talk to DM Grimmy if you're interested.

Wow, I lurk for a day or two and come back to a full on free-for-all, well I want in on the Psionic madness too! This whole crystal desert concept is making my creative process do a little dance, the flavor is just so rich and awesome. I can also never deny a good gestalt game, and would love to try a Soulknife/Psion, because the prospect of being a witch-hunting Jedi is just way too awesome to pass up.

Ok everyone, I had little sleep last night, so I'm going to cash in an hour or so. Let me answer a few questions.

Bane88, if you are interested in one, I can get you the stats for it.

YoricksRequiem, see above.

Talori, hmmm... mega-campaign? How would that work?

GypsyMischief, glad to hear the crystal desert is awesome!

I'm thinking Kalashtar, probably sticking with my above Marksman/Gunslinger idea, even if we stick with one class.

What stats are you using for them?

@GM - RE : Races, Requests Allowed

What would you think of an awakened animal? I had one in a game that died when the GM vanished, then got taken over, then the new GM has had repeated life problems and it is on life support. :)

Use the Awaken Animal spell for the rules to make it sentient? Only it was psionics instead of magic that did it (or a natural sport or experiment).

I'm thinking a psionic class married to something ranger like. :) Ideally, say a ranger/cryptid? Or a barbarian/cryptid (wolverine!). :)

I'm new to this, but intrigued by the idea. Githyanki sound interesting, but I'm at a loss for a psionic class they actually do well. :)

Ghorrin Redblade

So... Blue Telepath/Thrallherd//Tactician?

I picture someone who attempts to be manipulative in a helpful manner.
