To build a throne

Advice

Theoretically lets say you rule a kingdom and have access to nigh-infinite wealth (but don't get crazy) from your large prosperous kingdom. You decide you need a chair to express the proper sentiment to the masses who will see you sit upon it be they one of your people making a request of some kind, a foreign diplomat, a neighboring ruler, or simply our "court." . It needs to simultaneously say I'm someone you want to deal with, but at the same time let them know you can crush them like a bug if you wanted.

What does it look like?
What Magics are on it?

It's in advice because I'm thinking about stuff to add to a kingmaker game.

So you want to convey a sense of majesty, yes?

Why not split the difference, as it were? Have a big, imposing throne for official functions and meeting with foreign diplomats (or declaring war on said diplomat's country), but if it's one of your own people, then you could have a smaller one in a different room that's intended to be less scary. And if you need to dispense some harsh justice to your own petitioner for some reason, then you've still got the big one two doors down.

It has to be animated, it just has to.

Regular looking bar stool that is actually enchanted with perma-AMF. King is a high-level ranger that basically looks like the Brawny paper towel mascot.

Anti-magic Field.

This is the right track.

Combining ideas with Alleran:

Perhaps it has claw feet to walk around, but also a piece or two that folds out to look more intimidating. Like a big scary frill that appears to be made or swords or something. The chair responds to the emotions of the one sitting in it.

Ahh. That would work unless someone shoots an arrow at you.

He's too manly for that.

Scarab Sages

It needs to be comfy.

uh... Ok. If your king is Brock Sampson or AM BARBARIAN then this is a great plan. Beyond that perhaps less to.

Aaannnnyyyyywwwwaaayyyyyy... Back on topic.

AMF is a good idea, but it needs to be swift or free activation) only used as a defense.

The Exchange

How about something built around the Enter Image spell? There's a statue of you in the throne in the throne-room (and loads more all over your castle too), then in a super-secure 'panic room' vault there's a duplicate throne you actually sit in to project your consciousness to your throne-room statue via a continuous/unlimited use sort of enter image effect?

For dramatic effect, you should keep it at the top of a large stairway, and when the diplomats enter, you are riding on it while it descends, all the while giving a pleasant greeting in a booming voice.

Visually, this both has the advantage of displaying your majesty via wealth, but it also has a few metaphorical images. The stairway represents the power of your position, as in just how above them you are. Yet, by descending from it, you are showing a willingness to come down to a more reasonable position for negotiation (instead of forcing them to approach you, all the while craning their heads in order to look up at you.)

But because you never leave the throne, and it instead follows where you wish to go, this signifies that your power is still there, even if you choose to put it away and not wield it like a club.

Bonus points if the throne has something like flower petals/dragon wings/etc. that cover you up at the top, but open up as you descend and greet the other party (this can obviously show an openness to the other party's position).

It does depend on who your monarch is and the image they intend to portray. If your ruler is a down-to-earth sort (a stereotypical ranger etc) then a simple camp chair gets across the image that they are a capable person who cares more about practicality than comfort. You could even go Arthurian and have a round table with a number of identical seats, or a circle of comfy but simple armchairs for the ruler and guests.

If you want everyone to know that you're "The Freakin' King!" then go for a golden throne with a huge winged back atop a dias and enchanted to throw off elegant shards of light. Animated would be good too. Here sits King Bardalicious the First.

But let's say your party Necromancer managed to bribe and threaten the rest of the party into getting the job. How else could they rule but from atop a throne of bones and steel? This one's going to need to have a permanent invisibility cast on the cushions on it as they'd ruin the effect.

Throne of the High Lord

This magnificent throne seem to be forged from thick and thin strands of silvery white metal, twisting, curling and interlocking. Delicate strings of the shimmering metal shapes creatures of fables: Dragons, chimera, manticores and many more, their eyes set in beautiful blue stones, that seem to catch, and play with, even the smallest bit of light. Deep blue silk, cushions the person seated on this throne, and atop its high back, the gleaming-white precious metals spin and twist into a beautiful starburst pattern, fixed around <symbol of ruler>.

Once seated in this throne, a person may use its magical powers.

Crown of the King
This throne makes the person seated in it appear regal and powerful, granting you a +4 bonus on charisma checks and charisma-based checks, and allowing you to make diplomacy checks as a move-action, instead of speaking for a minute before being allowed a check, while seated.

Shield of the King
Once per day, as an immediate action, you may will the throne to cast forcecage around the throne, as the spell (CL 15).

Sword of the King
Once per day, as a free action, you may will the throne to cast Greater Magic Weapon (CL 16) on yourself.

Finally, if the person seated in the throne is the rightful ruler of her nation (DM discretion), she may benefit from its final ability.

Call the Kingsguard
Once per week as a standard action you can will the icons woven into the throne to life. The shapes twist into the shape of armed and armored warriors, at which point 2d4+2 Bralani Azata and a single Astral Deva are summoned anywhere within 60 ft of the throne (determined by you). These creatures fight on your behalf for 10 minutes, but cannot stray more than 500 ft from the throne. This effect ends if all the Kingsguard are slain, or at the end of the 10 minutes. For each Kingsgard slain, this ability cannot be used again for another 4 days.

i like the kingsguard idea. you can have a mock guard with wonderful uniforms or some other similarity (all women, all scarred veterans, whatever) but when the heat really gets turned up, out come the heavy hitters.

the thrones you can project your image onto is great too. do the unexpected! no matter the defenses you build around a throne, there will always be a counter... but if you arent really there, then its much harder to kill you.

until your grand vizier betrays your secret projector room, of course.

That's brilliant. Have enough illusion and/or really good paint work to make the statue appear alive. It's the perfect body double. Any attack on you would plink off harmlessly.

This is copied from my own story, but its something:

Theres a city that houses the greatest wizardly college in the world. The college is made up of 4 ebon towers, 3 are still in business, but the last one is broken and forbidden.

The tower is solid halfway up before it is broken, but the shards remain, floating in the air haphazardly among dark malignant energies. The inside of the tower stretches into the Abyss, where its warped interior serves as castle and throne to a demon lord.

The throne stands atop the very peak of the shattered tower. Stone stairs separate the Throne dais from the rest of the floor, mixed into the steps are chaotically half-submerged metal golems, wrought into demonic visages. The golems snap and growl at observers, mockingly non-intelligently.
The dull rocks the stairs are made of are covered in runes so finely carved that they blend and mix into obscurity, only noticeable if you crouch close enough to touch them.

From the stone behind the throne rises a thin pole of polished obsidian, it stretches 30 ft into the air, culminating in a massive flag made of flowing blood, the blood dissipates as it drips from the flapping edge of the flag.
Surrounding the flag float the 50 smallest pieces of the fragmented tower, each the size of a large coffin. From each piece hangs the banner of an enemy conquered by the demon lord, some are faded with age while others still smoke and crackle with iridescent flames.

The throne itself is a jagged cradle of volcanic rock, the seat cushion is a tangled mix of insect legs sewn from the finest silks, the armrests are headless feminine shapes that seem to quiver and flinch at the slightest touch, and the back is a massive structure, almost as tall as the flagpole, depicting the Lords conquest in battle, diplomacy and romance.

.

This is not my most popular Seat so far, in fact it hasn't even been encountered yet, but it is the biggest!
