Ways to Increase Fly Skill and Unsaddling a Rider

Advice

One of my characters recently picked up a Griffon as an animal companion; in my review of the flying rules, I figured it was a good idea to increase its fly skill.

browsing through various item sources, I haven't found a lot that increases fly skill (without being used as part of an item that gives the ability to fly).

so far, I have the following:

--Sable Company Elite Saddle (slotless; +5 comp fly to mount, +5 ride to rider, and Feather fall to rider if unsaddled)
--Intelligence headband. gives +ranks and a language.
--cracked deep red sphere IS. + comp bonus to a dex skill

**Scarlet and Blue sphere IS: this gives +2 enhancement to intelligence, but lacks the language about it containing a skill (like the headband). Has there been any errata about this? (otherwise, i can see shenanigans with putting stone on, getting extra SP, removing stone and getting a free 'retrain' of skill points)

Are there any other items that increase Fly skill?

On a related note, what all effects can unsaddle a rider? I assume bull rush, drag, reposition. Grapple will work unless mount hovers (since rider is stationary and mount moves).

Will trip work? The rider isn't standing on its feet... legless and flying creatures are generally not affected by trip.

Flying creatures cannot be tripped... what happens to the rider if the flying mount is knocked prone, via something like overrun?

If a rider counts as occupying all of its mount's squares, is it only 'unsaddled' if all squares are removed from the mount's space? (via bull rush, drag, reposition, etc)

If your Griffon already is taking ranks in Fly (what else would you take on a Griffon?) then the headband of intelligence and similiar items would not increase your ranks in fly and thus would have no increase to your fly score.

The ioun stone works.

Core rule book errata 4.1

“1”. In the pale lavender ellipsoid entry, change the “*”
footnote symbol to a superscript “2”. In the lavender
and green ellipsoid entry, change the “**” footnote
symbol to a superscript “3”. In the footnotes section,
add the following footnote before the existing
footnotes and renumber them accordingly:
1 This stone has one skill associated with it, as a +2
headband of vast intelligence.

Your post should really be divided up into either the Advice Forum and/or the Rules Forum, as none of it is PFS-specific. I'm sure if you do a Search over there you'll find that these questions have come up many times before.

Although you'll get some answers here, either of those other two forums are likely to generate more responses.

Dark Archive

Well, implicit in his question is the fact that only PFS approved ways to increase fly are wanted.

Sczarni

Understood. But, he's likely to get better responses here (in the Advice Forum) anyways, as that's what this forum is for, and none of his questions were PFS-specific.

Hence why there isn't a "PFS Advice" or "PFS Rules" forum. There's an Advice Forum, a Rules Forum, and a PFS Discussion Forum. They each serve different functions.

There is one, but it is a little bit.... Sick.

griffon mane cloth

(I am just realizing, it is just my assumption that this is being harvested after death. I suppose they could be raising griffins for their manes.)

You don't need to kill them... I guess, like harvesting sheep's wool?

Liberty's Edge

In what book is the Sable Company Elite Saddle?

Griffon: OOOO! Thank you for the new sweater.

By the way, has anyone seen aunty Scratchbeak? I haven't seen her in a few days...

Scarab Sages

Its woven cloth, so it had BETTER be cruelty free, or there will be pointy sticks.

Inner Sea Combat. along with the griffon/hippogriff access to use it with =D

And Dylos... Acrobatics for Dragon Style, Escape Artist for Narrow Body, and Perception. With only 1 skill point per HD, +Int items are almost a cheat!
