Question About The Witch's Spelllist

Rules Questions

Can witch's only choose spells from the witch's spell list in the advanced players guide, or can they choose spells from the core rulebook too?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

They can choose any spell that lists witch in its description. spells from the corebook that they can use are listed in the APG. there are new witch spells introduced in the books after the APG as well.

Yeah, just look up witch spell list on PFSRD. Although now that I think of it that list is not complete either. I know of a few spells (snowball and flurry of snowballs) which when you look at the spell description are listed as Witch spells. However when you look at the witch spell list they do not appear there.

i dont understand where in the crb it says witch spells though

Most of the spell lists in the game overlap. F'rinstance, if memory serves, Cure Light Wounds is a cleric spell *and* a witch spell (and a bard spell, and a paladin spell, and ...). There should be a list in the APG that shows all the spells a witch can take from both books.

This link should take you to a page with most, if not all, Paizo-made spells for the witch.

Avoid PFSRD where possible - there's better alternatives, starting from the PRD on paizo.com.

Check the bottom of this page for what spells you can cast from the CRB and the APG.

The CRB doesn't list Witch spells, because the Witch was not in the CRB. The Witch class section of the APG (not the Spell chapter) lists all the spells from the CRB and APG that the Witch can choose from. These won't be noted as Witch spells in the CRB since the class didn't exist when it was designed and isn't part of the game's core assumption, but they are still valid choices for the class. This means that you will need both books or an online resource such as the PRD or PFSRD to cross-reference your character's options.

If what you are looking for is a comprehensive list of spells by class, the PRD doesn't have it. The d20PFSRD's lists, even with their faults and omissions, are the closest thing anyone has put together to complete spell lists.

I've apparently stepped into the nega-verse.

oh god now i see their spell list at the bottom of the witch section lol. Thanks everyone i feel like a dummy.

here another dumb question. Is a male witch still called or witch or is he called a warlock?

Is witch a standard female vernacular for the class or can it apply to males as well?

Your character can call him or herself whatever he or she likes.

WOTC introduced a new spellcasting class, with it's own spell list, in the 2006 PHB II. People had the exact same issue as you have with the Witch, for exactly the same reason.

There's a specific Pathfinder Society scenario that has a male witch - and he's still called a witch.

Witches can use spells on the witch's spell list in the APG (many of these are core rulebook spells), spells published in later books that list a Witch level, plus what they get from their patron and/or archetype.

Many males historically were condemned as witches. Different games use "warlock" in different senses, but often refer to a distinct form of magic that has something to do with pacts or specifically-evil patrons.
