Dear God what IS that Thing?!?!

Advice

Scarab Sages

So using my advice in this thread, I decided to expand the idea of the "know-it-all" but towards the overall curtain to what can be known.

Elf Kensai Magus 9/Mindchemist Internal Alchemist 2
Worshipper of Aroden

STR - 12
DEX - 10+2
CON - 12-2
INT - 18+2
WIS - 7
CHA - 13

Favored Class Bonus - 1/6 Level for Extra Magus Arcana
Ability Score Bonus - Level 4 (INT)/Level 8 (INT)

Trait:
(Osirian Campaign Trait) Secret of the Sphinx - A Single Knowledge skill is a Class Skill (Religion); 1/day - +2 to Knowledge Check
(Social) Civilized - +1 Knowledge (Nobility/Local), Knowledge (Local) becomes Class Skill

Kensai Magus:
1 - Noble Scion (Scion of Lore); Weapon Focus (Falcata); Canny Defense; Arcane Pool (+1); Spell Combat
2 - Spellstrike
3 - Breadth of Experience; Magus Arcana - Divinatory Strike (When crit, automatic 20 on Knowledge check, even if already attempted Knowledge check earlier)
4 - Perfect Strike; Arcane Pool (+2)
5 - Dilettante; Power Attack
6 - FCB Magus Arcana - Arcane Accuracy; Magus Arcana - Wand Wielder
7 - Weapon Specialization (Falcata); Fighter Training; Iaijutsu

Mindchemist/Internal Alchemist:
8 - Cognatogen; Extra Bombs; Breath Mastery
9 - Toughness, Perfect Recall, Discovery - Preserve Organs; Poison Resistance (+2)

Kensai Magus:
10 - Arcane Pool (+3)
11 - [Open Feat], Critical Perfection

The trick here is to only have each Knowledge at 5 Ranks. But you might say, "Only 5 Ranks? Inconcievable!". That is the trick:

5 - Rank 5
3 - Class Skill (Arcana, Dungeoneering, Local, Nature, Nobility, Planes, Religion)
1 - Noble Scion
2 - Breadth of Experience
2 - Dilettante
14 - Intelligence Modifier x2 (Perfect Recall)

24(27) - Knowledge (Class Skill Knowledge)

Taking a look at gear:
Azlant Pendant (Arcana) - +5 to Knowledge (Arcana) (Competence), 1/day - +10 to Knowledge Check
Mossy Disk Ioun Stone x9 (4 if you want the Combat Knowledges)- +5 to a single Knowledge (Competence)
Headband of Ponderous Recollection - +2 INT, 3/day - 3 Knowledge checks at 5, 10, 15 + Knowledge Skill
Pathfinder Chronicle - +2 to Knowledge (Circumstance)

Both the trait and the Pendant can be used as free actions, totaling a +12 on a Single Knowledge Check.

Putting all of this together it becomes:

29(32) - Knowledge (Class Skill Knowledge)

For combat on a crit, including the Trait/Pendant bonus:

On crit, 1/day - "64 on Knowledge Check. What is it?"
On crit - "52 on Knowledge Check."

Not bad for the checks, but it does have some flaws:

- To hit is bad, which is why I grabbed the Wand Wielder for a Wand of True Strike.
- Hit Points are going to be iffy, since you are running at a CON of 10. Toughness can try to help, but it is not much.
- Damage might be low. Power Attack and Arcana Points to damage, as well as the Perfect Strike to make the Falcata's Critical to x4 might help out a bit.

Any comments/advice on what should I change, or what can be added in (like that missing Level 11 feat), would be appreciated.

Bump.

Where does weapon proficiency (falcata) come from?

Scarab Sages

As a Kensai Magus, you become proficient in a single martial or exotic weapon.

dotting.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Gonna watch where this goes.

When I first saw the thread title I thought I was going to see something like my 3 armed plaguebringer/gulch gunner ratfolk :P

Is Elf the best choice here?

Grand Lodge

Why would an elf worship the LONG DEAD god of Humanity?

Scarab Sages

Well, there are a few things that works with an elf, that I felt was ok.

The bonus to Int and Dex is a simple start. The penalty to con is pretty bad, but I would be aiming for a constitution belt +4. With the belt and toughness, I am looking at 106 up at 11.

Breadth of Experience needs the race req to gain the stat.

I think there is an Aasimar that gives Dex/Int, but I am a bit up in the air on losing skill totals for that.

Though would there be another race that would benefit better?

Grand Lodge

Well, Peri-Blooded Aasimar gives +2 Int, +2 Cha, and with Scion of Humanity, you could nab Racial Heritage(Elf).

Racial Heritage should give you access to the chosen races favored class bonuses.

That is one option.

Why is this character worshipping Aroden? Aroden is a dead god, and the patron god of Humanity. He didn't care about elves.

Whoops, yeah... LazarX and Adam, you tow are correct. I had intended to try to get some kind of character that would be an elf into one of my creations (somehow I always endup with Humans...), so I tried to make this Kensai/Mindchemist. I also had purchaced Gods and Magic a while back and say that it helped out the knowledge checks, forgetting about the lore behind Aroden.

This can result into a few paths now:

- Accept Aroden as my Deity, switching over to Human, and losing skill points in all the Knowledge checks by losing Breadth of Experience and the extra Magus Arcana, but gain 2 extra Arcane Pool Points (FCB).

- Keep the Elf, drop Aroden as my Deity, purchace a tenth Mossy Disk Ioun Stone, and opening up a Neck Slot, resulting in a 1/day - +2 Knowledge check, instead of the +12.

- Become a Half-Elf, can try to work Aroden as my Deity in a storyline, push INT to 20, swap Adaptability with Dual-Minded (since it conflicts with Dilettante), lose the extra Magus Arcana for 2 extra Arcane Pool Points (FCB), and lose Breadth of Experience.

- Go Emberkin Aasimar to get the Intellect/Charisma Bonus, take Scion of Humanity, obtain Racial Heritage (Elf), then grab Breadth of Experience (though I am not certain how the Age Requirement will work out), and losing the extra Magus Arcana (FCB) and Breadth of Experience.

- Go Dwarf, keep the INT at 18, but increasing the CHA to 15 (to obtain the 13 of the Noble Scion feat), but gain Hardy (even Steel Soul), and lose a few skill points and the extra Magus Arcana (FCB).

- Go Grimspawn Tiefling, gain the +2 DEX/INT/-2 WIS, 2 extra Arcane Pool Points (FCB of Tiefling) and lose Breadth of Experience and the extra Magus Arcana (FCB of Elf).

Looking at my options, what I feel is that the Elf is still a nice option (excluding Deity choice), but Human and Dwarf seems to be nice alternatives.

Any other ideas?
