Do native outsiders detect as evil (or whatever)?

Innocent question from the side lines:

Let's assume we are facing a non-evil Undead (e.g. a CG ghost).

Wold you use the 'undead' column for the strength of the chaotic and good aura, as well?

(I think I remember the reason for undead pinging more profoundly on the evil-o-meter was the inherent evil-ness of being undead. Yet, the table makes no difference for other alignments)

Yes. If you cant pass on due to some holy duty you still need to fulfill or so free spirited that not even death has a good grasp on you, then it might as well show through the Detect spells.

By RAW, yes, you'd use the Aligned Undead section of the chart when using detect chaos or detect good on a CG ghost. One might justify that by saying that Undead are similar to Outsiders in that they aren't just mortal creatures, and lack a distinct body and soul. (Outsiders are body and soul, while corporeal undead are generally soulless and incorporeal undead are just souls).

Alternatively, you can choose to ignore that at your table.

I appreciate your detailed response, Chemlak. Where is that fluff from?

I did mention it's not too hard to come up with an explanation if strict RAW is indeed RAI (native outsiders are strongly bond to their soul, or made of neutral plane-stuff as you mentioned). Just for the sake of argument, wouldn't the tiefling/aasimar's actual alignment determine their physical appearance as well, in that case? And how would that interact with the elemental native outsiders (sylphs/ifrits/etc)? Their "plane-stuff" seems as though it carries the essence of their elemental plane with them, as elementals are usually all neutral.
