sleeves noob question

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

After much consideration and weighing the pros and cons , I've decided to sleeve the cards, because to me, the card quality is the one let down of this game.
Now, I never sleeved before, si I'm confused by the choices, and I'd like to buy the right thing.
What's the difference between soft sleeves and deck protectors? Which is better for a game like this? Are some sleeves thinner so more cards will fit in the tray (postponing the problem of finding a new storage system)?

Thanks for your help!

My cards were getting little 'chips' already, so I sleeved them all. Several plays with Ultra Pro standard card game size deck protectors have worked very well.

I had to reorganize where stuff went in the trays and split up some stuff (Items are in back to back smaller slots on the far left now) and everything fit. I have the base game (including Burnt Offerings) and the character expansion deck all fitting in there. However, looks like one more deck (absolutely two) is going to be too much. I'll have to figure out some way to use the space for empty boxes, which looks neat but is basically useless.

Not sure on soft sleeves, but 600 deck protectors, for about $30, sleeved everything very well.

You might as well buy the card boxes along with the sleeves, and it might be cheaper to buy all sleeves at once. I found a great deal on eBay for about 1,000 Ultra Pro standard black sleeves and got a few card boxes to go with them. Why pay for shipping twice?

These^^^^ are excellent. Would go this way...I have and its worth it

I bought my sleeves at the FLGS (actually cheaper there than amazon).

I don't know the shipping price from New Egg, but ern2112's post is a very good price for Fantasy Flight sleeves.

I haven't seen them cheaper than that...and found them after I bought them at a higher price....still worth it too. These are excellent sleeves

Thanks, I'll have a look at those and ultrapro deck protectors.

Any comments on ultrapro pro-fit sleeves?

Also, in their nature, what's the difference between soft sleeves and deck protectors, if any?

Soft sleeves are not made to play with.....deck sleeves are. The stiffness of the sleave will make it much easier to shuffle and deal where the soft ones are rather worthless for this.

All right, thanks, I was about to buy a bunch of soft ones this morning

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I don't remember what kind of sleeves I have - they were cheapies that I bought more than 10 years ago when I was into a CCG. But they're just cheap, soft sleeves, and I find they're much easier to shuffle than unsleeved or hard sleeved cards, because they just slide past each other very easily.

sleeves are more expensive than I thought, especially deck protectors, and considering I don't live in the States (I'm in Canada). For some reason, shipping sleeves is very expensive...

I think I'll go to my local store tomorrow!

The Ultra Pro deck protectors I bought are fine. No problems shuffling. The location decks are short, so there's not problem with cards sliding off the deck when you stack them (I unsleeved my Runebound cards because of that issue).

I think the sleeves I got were $6 for a hundred. PFACG has way more cards than a Munchkin set, so I just figured that's the price of having so many cards to play with.

I realize this has been fairly well answered already, but I know from experience that Ultra Pro-Fit sleeves will NOT work; they are a fraction of a millimeter too narrow.

I'll also confirm that the standard sized Fantasy Flight or Ultra Pro sleeves work great.

Just my 5 cents worth.

I have used the above ones from Mayday. They also have a thicker option. They fit nice and tight and the cards still fit in the box.

I use the FFG ones for my Star Wars LCG, but they would be far too expensive here in New Zealand to sleeves over 500 cards.

I completely disagree with that statement, as I've got my entire game sleeved with these: Ultra Pro Sleeves

The cards fit fine and they're all standing upright in the box insert (though I'm just about out of room with five more AP expansions to add).

I'm using those UltraPro sleeves too. Serious question: I put all the hologram dot thingies on the back side of the card... Am I doing boardgames right?

The thin Mayday sleeves (100 to a pack, #7041 IIRC) are a perfect fit size-wise. Unfortunately, just a small amount of contact with anything oily (sweaty hands, table snacks etc ) and they all stick together like glue. I threw 1,000 of them away after the first session they were used for, after two player decks just became solid blocks of cards!

The thick Mayday sleeves of the same size (7077s) don't have the same problem. Unfortunately, although they are sold as being exactly the same size (63.5mm by 88mm) they are in fact 2mm wider and 0.5mm shorter - making them slightly too wide to be a perfect fit, and slightly too short.

I think he meant that the "Pro-fit" version of the "Ultra Pro" sleeves wouldn't work, see example here:

I've only ever sleeved one game (Dominion) and used Mayday sleeves. They stick so badly that I thought I'd never bother sleeving again unless I managed to find some kind of matt-finish sleeves.

It's interesting to hear that this is not a universal problem with sleeves. Maybe I'll have to have another go with a different brand!

If that's the case, my mistake. Apologies. The non-Fit sleeves I got are fine. Non-stick, as well.

I have had the cheap 100 per pack at .79 cents.....and had them in the ones mentioned above. The difference is hands down....the soft ones want to not stack as they tend to slide around....as well as not having nearly the shuffling ability. The "soft" ones I am speaking of are just for collecting cards and looking at them....so for that they are wonderful. For gaming....I much prefer the ones above.

Yes, I was specifically saying the "Pro-Fit" ones don't work.

The intent of my second paragraph was to differentiate the Pro-Fit from the standard Ultra Pro ("Deck Protector", etc) will work.

My apologies if I was unclear.
