Is there any reason that the Guided property can't be used on an Amulet of Mighty Fists? I remember someone arguing that it wouldn't work, though I don't recall why.

None that I can see. Guided is a weapon modifier just like say flaming. I see no reason it could not be added to an AoMF.
I did see that one of the dev's did clarify it was for weapons only and not ranged weapons. Maybe that is what you remember?

RAW there is no reason to disallow Guided on an Amulet of Mighty Fists. AoMF has specific restrictions on what properties can go on it, and Guided meets those. As mentioned, an AoMF can be enhanced with melee weapon properties so long as they can be applied to unarmed strikes. Guided is a melee weapon property, and the fluff behind it makes perfect sense (IMO) with relation to unarmed strikes.
The primary reason to not allow it would be to not allow it in the game, as it is technically not published under the "Pathfinder" rules, but is in fact a 3.5 weapon property.
If however it is allowed in the game but not on the amulet, that is a GM fait decision, and nothing that I can find in the RAW supports it.

Since it's 3.5, and the 3.5 AoMF couldn't have weapon abilities, well, uh... RAW for the system it was made for (and pointedly not updated to core PF or even Campaign Setting) is that no.
Adapting this to PF is strictly homebrew.
Indeed. The only reason it gets used in Pathfinder at all is that Paizo made the 3.5 version of Guided back when they still made things for D&D.
Well, that and the fact that, RAW aside, Guided is a a good patch for fixing the monk's MAD-ness.
