Sacred Summons

Rules Questions

A quick cross-check. The Sacred Summons feat requires the " Aura class feature". I am I correct that this means no one but Clerics (ie Not Oracles) ca use it.

Part II. Would the Sacred Summons feat (and Augment Summoning, etc) work with a staff that casts Summon Monster X? I don't think so, I think that only the save DC's are affected by the user's feats, but I figure I will check...

Paladins have an aura of good, as well.

Something or other Arcanist in Paths of Prestige also gets a good aura if you want it as an arcane caster.

Magaambyan Arcanist

And Hellknight Signifier gets Aura of Law.

but as typed Aura's, do they count for the Aura class feature?

Sure. Instead of the aura of their god's alignment, they have either an Aura of Good or an Aura of Law. They'd only gain the feat's effects on summons that have only the good or lawful subtypes, but that should still leave plenty of options.

Yeah, the various RAW is kind of... deficient, but by RAI any of the (Alignment) Aura Class Features should work IMHO.

Look at the RAW of Magambyaan Arcanist:

Quote:
Aura of Good (Ex): The power of a Magaambyan arcanist’s aura of good (see the detect good spell) is equal to her class level.

'See the Detect Good spell'... which references Cleric and Paladin Auras. (one is 'Aura' Class Feature, one is 'Aura of Good' Class Feature) ...So which is it, is it like the Cleric or Paladin Aura? WELL, if Auras are IDENTICAL then there is no issue, and Magambyaan Arcanist's Aura is also identical (albeit Clerics' MAY have an additional Alignment Aura of Chaos/Law if the God is non-Neutral in that axis). If you don't go with that, then there is simply an unresolvable vagueness as to which Class Feature Magambyaan resembles... even though AFAIK there is no other mechanic which treats Cleric/Paladin Auras differently.

Anti-Paladin fudges it a bit, since A-P didn't exist when the Core Rules were written and Paladin/Cleric have minorly differently worded Class Abilities): A-P Aura of Evil specifically says that Smite Evil does double damage vs. the A-P, which the Core Rules Paladin rules don't state. In fact, A-P Smite Good says it damages those with Good Auras (Cleric or Paladin), while Paladin Smite Evil never even mentions that it does double damage vs. Evil Aura Clerics! (IMHO, Evil Aura Clerics are intended to receive double damage, and that is an oversight somehow... Magabyaan Aura of Good SHOULD also be subject to A-P Smite Good double damage even though by RAW they are not. Perhaps a good candidate for a FAQ/Errata.

Apparently, things like Detect X (Alignment) treat these Auras as identical, so functionally they are IMHO. The RAW for all the classes should probably either be changed to simply 'Aura' or this Feats pre-req should state 'alignment Aura from Class Ability' without implicating the exact name of the Class Ability (which varies from Cleric, Paladin, etc). I would definitely let all these Class Ability Auras qualify for that Feat.

I honestly was certain that Inquisitor also had an Aura, like a Cleric, but lo and behold they don't, even though they receive their powers from the Deity, can lose their powers and need to atone like Clerics, and have the same 1-step alignment rule like Clerics. IMHO, this is really an oversight, and they should have identical Aura feature to Clerics, but RAW: they don't, apparently.

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

I re-phrased some of those questions in the most direct manner possible to hopefully get FAQ'd, OVER HERE, so hit FAQ on that if you please...
