Headband of Havoc

Advice

Ok all...I am playing Eyes of the Ten (PFS) on Saturday. I had planned on purchasing a Headband of Havoc but I friend of mine just pointed out a rule that ruins that idea.

The plan was to have the headband so that if I was hit with a spell before I got to go I could still activate my rage and get my ridiculous superstition bonus. However, I am an invulnerable rager and so I gave up uncanny dodge. Thus I can be flat-footed and can not use that wonderful immediate action to rage.

Anyone see a flaw in this logic? Anyway around this? Anyone know of an item that gives you uncanny dodge or prevents you from being flat-footed?

Thanks for the help!

Oh...if it wasn't clear: If you can help please do before Saturday. Chop Chop!

I am in the same perdicament. At best I can make an AoO while flat-footed thanks to combat reflexes for my barbarian, but sadly not able to take an immediate action.

From what I've checked, there is no item or Spell that gives uncanny dodge. The only thing that does is classes for the ability. Barbarian is the easiest at 2 levels, but since that's not an option, 4 levels of rogue, 3 of stalwart defender, 2 of assassin, or Something else.

...wait a sec..

Ok, found our savior. Defensive Strategist trait.

The trait, Defensive Strategist, essentially gives uncanny dodge, just not the dex modifier to your AC. So, in essence, it allows you to not be flat-footed during a surprise round or before combat, so yeah, there you go.

Now my barbarian just got saved as well, nice.

So I would have to spend a feat and grab two traits. That's not horrible. Thanks!

I believe Defensive Strategist is Torag only. So if your Barbarian happens to worship the Dwarven God of Strategy and Law, then that should work.

What a ridiculous trait though!

hmmm...

Right now he is between Gods. Being kicked out of his Shaonti tribe has him questioning everything. Maybe he could get buddy buddy with some dwarves. Strategy...yes...law....I don't know about that one.

Strategy doesn't have to be smart, just beneficial. do for a barbarian, "me smash him first before he smash us" is a perfectly reasonable strategy.

I realize this is an old thread, but if anyone is still paying attention, Superstition gives its bonus regardless of whether or not you are raging. You only have to make saves against friendly spells while raging though.

Afraid not.

Quote:
Rage Powers (Ex): As a barbarian gains levels, she learns to use her rage in new ways. Starting at 2nd level, a barbarian gains a rage power. She gains another rage power for every two levels of barbarian attained after 2nd level. A barbarian gains the benefits of rage powers only while raging, and some of these powers require the barbarian to take an action first. Unless otherwise noted, a barbarian cannot select an individual power more than once.

While it's true that a Headband of Havoc only give sits full function to a Barbarian that retains Uncanny Dodge, it's still a good item to have for an Invulnerable Rager.

Adding 4 levels to your Beast Totem, Superstition, Witch Hunter, Strength Surge, etc. is a good boost.

My group has never played that Uncanny Dodge lets you take actions before your first turn in the initiative order, it just lets you not be flat-footed. An immediate action is still an action you have to take. Is there an official ruling on that somewhere?

The entire point of an Immediate action is that it is an action you take when it's not your turn, that eats your Swift for the next round. If someone is capable of taking an Immediate action, they can take it when it's not their turn. Uncanny Dodge allows you to not be Flatfooted, and you are therefore able to take Immediate actions as normal.
