[Jehova's Arena, Test] Fight the Sixth, Amarkys vs. Bruno

Play-by-Post

Amarkys enters the arena from the north, and Bruno from the south, Esmerelda following after him. Apparently the horn blower has returned from wherever he was, and he waits for the combatants to ready themselves for battle, his oddly fat lips wobbling by the horn's mouthpiece. The crowd is a bit larger than the last Bruno saw, and smaller than the one who cheered on Amarkys's demise. They wait expectantly for blood.

Initiatives, please. I think each of you have enough description, but it never hurts to be dramatic with your appearance :D

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno is left feeling quite low. He had tried to ride in on Esmarelda as he had before, but found that there was a last minute rule change. Apparently it wasn't "entertaining" enough for him to splatter people against door posts. He had to do it slowly.

Bruno's sullen entrance is probably somewhat less showy than the crowd is used to, but they can all go to the Abyss for all he cares right now.

initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

This is just a heads up for you, Choon, your opponent should be here by late afternoon.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

I read that. No worries. I'll have a very busy afternoon tomorrow, but I'll check back around 5:30-6

But did you notice that it rhymed?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

awwww, sneaky Arbiter! Watch out folks, next matches to be done in various poetic styles from Epic Poetry to Haiku! (That would be mildly awesome, actually. You should get on that. :P)

Male Human N/A

Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

EDIT: Forgot to enter in the numbers...

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Enemy? Where are thou?

Aye, tis Amarkys's turn. Also remember that posting the initiative modifier in the open isn't required, though I guess it's fine if you really just don't care :P

Male Human N/A

Okay then. I move to B08 ducking behind the Pillar.

Okay. Since it wasn't specified, I chose Esmarelda's location randomly, if it makes a difference to Amarkys's movement, he can retcon that. The camel is standing in KL0809.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno sees his opponent duck and cover and breaks into a hearty laugh.
He's gone to change 'is undagaments! 'Haps he saw the splatter I got on that Gnome!
He swings up into the saddle and raises his lance to the crowd.

dice:

Ride check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Bruno leaps gracefully into the saddle on Esmarelda's lumpy, humpy, wiry-haired back.

Bruno Only:
I'm spoilering this so that if you meant to take only a free action on your surprise round, you can still pretend that you did something, but I just wanted to remind you that mounting with the fast ride option is a free action, allowing you to still take both a swift and a move or standard action during the surprise round.

Amarkys, don't take your turn quite yet.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

DM:

Thanks

Upon regaining the saddle, Bruno takes on a visibly more confident appearance. He shakes his lance a few times, screams, Oi! Have at ye!, and launches a ball of thick mucus in the direction of his rival, as is his custom. He then urges Esmarelda forward, trying to catch a good glimpse of is foe.

Move to H-I/12-13

Male Human N/A

Move Action to put away my Club. Second Move Action to Draw my Shortspear. 5-foot step to B07.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno growls to himself as his foe steps around the pillar. He spurs Esmarelda on, circling his prey.

Move to a-b/13-14

Male Human N/A

I charge to B12!

Charge Attack:

Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Attack: 19
Damage: 7

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno takes a wound to his thigh, but is able to fight on. He counter attacks, and spurs Esmeralda into action as well. As Bruno's lance seeks a week point, Esmarelda rears her head and launches a glob of stomach bile at the attacker.

dice:

my attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
my damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Esmarelda vs touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
DC 13 Fort or Sickened for 1d4 ⇒ 2rounds

Booo, bad dice. All attacks miss. :(

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

It's late where I am. Will check back in the morning.

Male Human N/A

It is late here as well.

Standard Attack:

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Attack: 5
Damage: 5

I am pretty sure that is a Swing and a Miss.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno easily dodges his enemy's second strike and tenatiously maintains his own assault in spite of his wound. Esmarelda officially joins the fray, biting at the good-smelling threat in front of her.

Dice:

attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Esmerelda : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Attack: 19
Damage: 11
Mount : 10
Damage: 8

Bruno Only:
As Edward pointed out in the other thread, you gain a +1 higher ground bonus when attacking a medium character from a large mount, which I don't think you've added. Also, in order to make your mount attack you need to succeed on a DC 10 ride check, though in this case it did not matter, as Esmarelda's attack missed.

Bruno lands a solid blow on Amarkys with his lance, lunging downwards from the saddle and stabbing through the side of his chainmail. The man is wounded, but still standing.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

DM only:

Completely forgot about that. My bad.
Minor side note: Bruno is wielding the lance one-handed

Bruno Only:
Woops, I saw the +8 and assumed both hands, but yeah, he has a shield. Well done on the +8 static damage with a one handed weapon!

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Just to be clear: your turn

Male Human N/A

Attack Roll:

Target: Esmarelda
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Attack: 12
Damage: 3

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno catches the spearhead on his shield, deflecting it harmlessly.

dice:

attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
ride: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Bruno counters, driving his lance with all his strength. His efforts, however, disrupt his handling of Esmarelda. When he attempts to goad her into attacking, she instead shifts her feet in place and snorts.

Attack: 22
Damage: 11

Male Human N/A

How did you get such high Damage!? Do you have any other stat other than STR?

I should note that although he did not specify this out of spoiler, Amarkys's attack was aimed at Esmarelda, although it did miss regardless. And yes, Azaelas, he does have more than strength, but that's part of the fun, not knowing how he's built. I can assure you that his damage is legitimate.

Bruno's second mighty downward skewer pierces the other side of Amarkys's armor, sending him slumping to the blood-soaked ground.

Bruno Only:
I don't believe it matters here, but you wrote your damage total as 10 in the spoiler, and 11 outside of it.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

I have a pretty high CON too. :)

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

GM:
sorry about that. Apparently I'm not very good at this.

Bruno exults as his enemy falls. He raises his bloodied lance high for the crowd, claiming his victory over the first man to wound him (and not kill him outright).

The crowd cheers Bruno on as he raises his weapon, Esmarelda stomping her feet in the sand. Some people watching have seen Bruno in action three times now, and he's getting to be a popular fighter, appearance and hygiene notwithstanding. The voices around him prompt him to finish his fallen foe.

"OY, DWARF! POKE 'IM TILL 'E LOOKS LIKE THAT ONE CHEESE WITH THE 'OLES!"

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno roars with laughter at the spectator's comment. He drops from Esmarelda and secures the dripping lance to his saddle. On bowed legs he saunters up to his unconscious foe and draws forth a wicked looking pick. Holding it in both hands, he swings the curved spike down and forward like a golf swing, catching the poor soul under the chin.

dice:

coup: 4d6 + 32 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 1) + 32 = 46

that's 54 damage on the coup de grace adding in an extra base 2 for going two-handed on it.
x4 crit weapons are nasty. I sure am glad I didn't run afoul of Doc's pistol

Sometimes I just feel horrible narrating this D:

The crowd applauds wildly as the ugly dwarf does some uglier things to Amarkys, ripping the jaw messily from his face and getting blood everywhere. The horn blower, looking vaguely ill, trumpets a victory sort of noise. He's really not very good at blowing horns.

Bruno is the winner!
